A few months back, Chewy Charles and I registered for the Sundown half marathon race category! 10km is a breeze (ok la not really a breeze but compared to 21km you know what i mean) so we wanted to push our limits. I took part in the half marathon for last year’s Sundown run and clocked less than 3 hours so I thought that if we were to train like how I did before, everything should be alright! Haha but we didnt have time for any form of proper training at all ๐ Psst.. We were too busy eating! Haha! Yeah absolutely no training. And here we are, on the shuttle bus from Expo MRT station to Changi Exhibition Centre!
Due to the traffic jam, we managed to reach the race site only 15 minutes before the flag off. The place was freaking crowded! I think some of them completed the 10km race as they were sitting down, all hot and sweaty. Hurriedly grabbed another fellow participant to help take a photo for us before we dropped off our barang barang at the baggage deposit counter ๐
Looking all excited before the flag off! ๐ Actually, we had to drag ourselves out of bed (yup we took an afternoon nap) because we felt like we needed more sleep. Plus, the thought of not having trained at all for the run made us feel kinda worried. But when we reached the race site, there was some kinda adrenaline rush even though we have not even started running! Haha.
Just minutes before the flag off, we spotted a few of our friends here and there. The first few kilometres were quite ok and then barely halfway through the race, my stomach felt a little queasy. The main culprit that I could think of at that point of time was the few pieces of curry chicken I ate just a few hours ago. Yeah of all things, I had to eat curry before a run. The rest of the race was a bit of a mess. We jogged, we walked, we continued to walk hand in hand, and then we decided to race each other by sprinting, got breathless and did more walking, started to jog whenever we saw the next hydration point. Yeah all these went on and on until the last 5km! Our legs felt as heavy as lead. Now we know what it really feels like! Every step ahead required so much effort. Besides that, my butt ached like crazy and I was doing half squats along the way to stretch my butt muscles. Chewy Charles had to stop me because he claimed that I looked like I was shitting. Then finally, we decided to run the last kilometre. And the last kilometre felt like eternity. We eventually made it to the finishing line, hand in hand, with camera lights flashing at us!
Sleep can wait. Beat the sunrise. Haha but all we wanted to do after the race was to lie down and sleep! Oh actually we had some energy left in us to queue up to get some sausages ๐
If this photo backdrop was a real bed, we would definitely jump right in! ๐ There was a pretty long queue for the two photo booths, each featuring a different backdrop. We were allowed four different poses, the fourth and last pose would be used as the largest photo. Haha by the time it got to our turn, our minds went blank! Too tired! We managed to fumble a little and get into the correct poses as the timer counted down 3…2…1! ๐
Let’s make excellent happen. Oh yeah. ๐ This is our second time taking part in a race together, our first being last year’s Nike run! We will definitely keep running together and reach the finishing line hand in hand ๐
