My dearest boy has officially graduated from Nanyang Technological University with a Degree in Chemical Engineering! Yes, he f*cking did it! Haha! I’m really very proud of him because he has been awarded Second Upper Class Honours! Yeah it’s not first class but second upper is second best ok? Hahaha! Anyway in case you’re wondering, I didn’t do as well as him but I got more than just a pass degree. Lol.
A few weeks before the NTU Convocation, the only NUS graduate joined Chewy Charles and his very awesome fydp group mates for a Graduation Photoshoot! The shoot was spread over two weekends and although it was a pain having to drag ourselves up in the wee hours of the morning, all of us really had a lot of fun getting dressed in our robes and strutting our stuff (ok kidding) everywhere we went! π We have Joel, a very good photographer in our group to help us with composing the shots, as well as the photoshopping thereafter! Hmm but it also means that he appeared in very few photos. Anyway, a big thank you to Joel! π Here are some of my favorite shots taken at Botanical Gardens, Punggol Beach, KTM railway track, NTU and Raffles Place! Enjoy! π
Chewy Charles’ convocation fell on a Wednesday so I took leave from work to witness his 10 seconds of fame on stage! Wouldn’t miss it for the world!
Honestly, it was really boring having to sit through the different schools of engineering before it finally came to the Chemical Engineering batch of graduates. I was trying my best to stay awake. I did a few test shots and finally decided to crop off the sea of motarboards sitting in front of me. Lol! Congrats Mr Chew! π
So where does one go to after graduating? One goes to Paradise! Haha Paradise Dynasty I mean! π Chewy Granny must be really happy for her grandson and she insisted that this meal would be on her! How nice! π
Pan Fried Pork Dumplings ($3.60 for 3)
All of us thought that these pork dumplings were pretty good. Some dimsum places serve pan fried dumplings that turn out all hard, especially at the sides. The ones at Paradise Dynasty were not the least bit oily and were nicely pan fried at the bottom.
The chilled jellyfish took me by surprise because it was very clean tasting and I half wondered if that was supposed to be the case.
Sauteed French beans with minced pork
Hmmm I’m not a fan of french beans but Chewy Charles’ parents liked this.
La Mian with sliced pork in signature pork broth soup ($9.80)
Ok I admit. I had a ramen craving and settled for La Mian. Do I have any other choice? Haha. I wanted something simple for my tastebuds and The la mian with sliced pork in signature pork broth soup was perfect for me. It’s not surprising as to why the soup was so yummy and addictive. We heard that the signature stock consists of ingredients like pork bone, pork ribs and whole chicken which is simmered over slow fire for several hours prior to serving!
I really have to hand it to the chefs who did a great job kneading and pulling the la mian. Those thin and silky threads certainly made a noodle lover like me very contented! π And let’s not forget the delicious and tender slices of pork that further enhanced the taste of this bowl of la mian.
I wasn’t quite accustomed to the taste even though the rice cakes were sticky and had a very nice bite to it.
Xiao Long Bao Sampling Basket ($13.80)
They missed out on our Xiao Long Bao order and it came to our realization only when we were waiting for our dessert. My favorite color is blue and this sampling basket doesn’t look quite complete without a blue XLB. Hahaha. As we only orderd one basket to share, I helped myself to the Foie Gras XLB and it was amazing that I could really taste the foie gras together with the minced pork! All along, I thought that these colorful XLBs were pretty gimmicky. Now, I’m dying for a revisit to try out the other flavors! π
Pan Fried Pumpkin Cakes ($3.20 for 3)
I think it was my first time having pan fried pumpkin cakes and I’m glad to declare that I loved it! It kinda resembles our chinese nian gao but it’s definitely less sweet. Chewy texture, I like! π
Paradise Dynasty, we will be back! Right BB Chew? π

The grad photos are awesome!
And I LOVE the pork broth at Paradise Dynasty! There’s a nice appetizer my family had but I can’t remember the name of the dish! It’s thin slices of lean pork wrapped around cucumber slices with some chilli on top. You guys should try it next time. And yes, I held the same view as you on the colourful xlb until I tried them myself! Yummy! But kinda small. Heh. π
Yup! When’s ours? Haha.. What happened to the email thread? Lol.
Ooh thanks for the recommendation. We will order that the next time! π
Hi there congrats on your graduation! The photography is excellent!
And the what I want to ask about. I am also going to try some graduation photography soon, and am curious about the type of lens you used for you shots. Am I right assuming you use different lenses for the graduation shots and the food photography (which are also excellent btw)?
Thanks so much!
Hi Binayak, my friend was the photographer for our graduation shoot. He used a Nikon D3X and 24-70mm lens π Hope this helps!
