Hihi! Today, I would like to introduce two of my pretty girl friends, YP and PR to you! I’m actually their mutual friend and I’m glad that they hit off really well on the day they first met at my 21st birthday party, I think! It had been a really long time since we last caught up with each other and we made a date to go out for dinner together. Umm.. Kinda rhymes! Anyway, we agreed to walk around and check out the restaurants around Tanjong Pagar Road and Duxton Hill area before making a decision.
I must admit that we walked past quite a few eateries before walking into Todamgol Korean Restaurant! The place gives off a very traditional and rustic vibe.
Ok back to the two pretty ladies, PR and YP! PR was my senior back in our JC days. We took the same subject combination and she was my class’ orientation group leader (OGL). My classmates and I had fun ‘bullying’ and teasing her all the time! 😛 I’m amazed that we managed to maintain our friendship and have come this far! As for YP, she is my bestest tennis partner! We seldom play tennis together ever since she started studying in Sydney but now that she’s back for good, I’m gonna jio her on weekend mornings! *fingers crossed* 🙂
My potential 姐妹s (sisters) for our customary wedding I hope! I’m still in the midst of ‘recruiting’ more! 😉
Didn’t expect misterchewy to be present too, did you? It was actually a very last minute arrangement because I thought the husband would spend the entire day helping my MIL with spring cleaning (yes I haven’t got time to update this post). When he was done, he called me and claimed that he didn’t have dinner plans at home and asked if he could join us for dinner. It breaks my heart to say ‘no’ to him so.. 😛
In this candid shot, PR was actually trying to give us some light from her Blackberry because it was just too dark to take photos if you don’t use a flash.
There were a total of five Banchan (side dishes). While everyone else loved the kimchi, I think I preferred the crunchy seaweed! Not sure what’s the reason behind this but only the kimchi was refillable.
Whenever I’m at a Korean restaurant or eatery, the vegetable pancakes top my must-order list! There were a few varieties at Todamgol and we settled for the Kimchi Jun ($18), which is essentially Korean pancake made with kimchi. This was surprisingly good especially after dipping it into the sauce mix. Crispy on the outside, crunchy on the inside!
We wanted some chicken wings and they came in a variety (just like the Korean pancakes) of sauces. The Ganjang BBQ Chicken Wings ($28) were coated with a layer of Korean soy sauce made from fermented soybeans and then grilled, or the other way round. Frankly speaking, I’m not sure! I reckon it tasted like normal honey glazed chicken wings, nothing to shout about.
All of us were kinda amused by the presentation of the Yang Poon Bibimbap ($20). It came in a large metal bowl instead of the usual stone pot and the ingredients were simply chucked into the bowl. Although it might seem like not much effort had gone into preparing this dish, it was actually quite scrumptious after a good and proper mix. The different flavors of all the ingredients really blended well with one another!
I wouldn’t really say that the Budae Jjigae ($35) is a type of Korean steamboat but rather, it is similar to bibimbap in the sense that both are frequently made from leftovers and are convenient. Our budae jjigae consisted of instant noodles, sliced hot dogs, luncheon meat, baked beans, mushroom, vegetables and the like. The soup was a mix of sour and spicy and we were all desperate for water towards the end of the meal. Not sure if they had added MSG into our soup!
YP noticed that a group of seven ladies seated near our table shared only the budae jjigae and another dish. So I guess we ate quite a lot! We were full but still had some room for desserts 😛

We went back where we came from. Had passed by Sabio Tapas Bar & Restaurant earlier but having Spanish food for dinner didn’t quite appeal to us. Spanish desserts? Yes please! 😛
I’m really tempted to steal this coaster just so that I can show it off and claim that it is indeed “stolen from Sabio”. LOL.
We ordered the Bizachos Borrach ($6) purely out of curiosity after reading the description that it is a type of Spanish drunken sponge cake. Doesn’t a ‘drunken sponge cake’ sound interesting? Haha. We were thinking, “So is the cake drunk? Or will we all end up drunk after eating it?” LOL. According to one of the Sabio staff, these cakes are drizzled with sweet sauce of brandy, lemon and cinnamon. None of us could detect any hint of the above mentioned. It tasted like the typical sponge cake, only denser. Kena conned or what? Haha!
The Crema Catalan ($8) is not to be mistaken for creme brulee. Both are rich and creamy, with a caramelized crust but the crema catalan has a very distinct zesty taste of citrus. Tasted like oranges more than anything else to me! Very yummy if you eat it while it’s warm.
Churros ($9) is definitely my favorite Disneyland/Universal Studio/themepark snack! Hehe! Unfortunately, the ones at Sabio were kinda tough instead of being chewy. The chocolate sauce did salvage things a litte but honestly, I have tried much better churros elsewhere!
I’m glad that I had such awesome company for the night! 😀 Now I can’t wait for a 兄弟姐妹 (brothers and sisters) gathering! Wheeee! 😛
