ZESPRI Kiwifruit Collectibles Giveaway!

Zespri Giveaway 003

Dearest friends, today is the last day of the bloggers’ 14-day ZESPRI kiwifruit challenge! It has been a very fun journey thus far and I truly enjoyed sharing various kiwifruit recipes and photos on my blog, on Instagram as well as my on Facebook page. Honestly, ZESPRI kiwifruit has become my family’s ‘talking point’ over the past 2 weeks as we would always be trying to brainstorm new recipes together. I’m thankful that my parents and brother were pretty adventurous, especially in eating the Japanese vegetable curry with kiwifruit! I also shared some green kiwifruits with my secondary school friends when we met for dinner and I was surprised that a few of them had not tried this fruit before! In fact, they sliced the kiwifruits right after dinner and they loved its tangy sweet taste πŸ™‚

Zespri Giveaway 019

Through this 14-day challenge, I have come to realize that it’s actually pretty easy to include kiwifruits into your diet as long as you put your heart to it! No more excuses! Last night, I had donuts for dinner and I decided to have some green kiwifruit to go along with it πŸ™‚ I got my Vitamin C boost that way too! The possibilities are endless. What’s more amazing is that I have been eating kiwifruits for close to 14 days in a row!

Zespri Giveaway 016

Now that we have come to the end of the challenge, missuschewy would like to celebrate with everyone by putting up this very loveable ZESPRI green kiwifruit thumbdrive, together with other collectible items as part of a giveaway contest. I’m actually giving away my own goodie bag here which you can still take part!

ZESPRI Kiwifruit Dinner + Giveaway @ The Living Cafe

Zespri Kiwi Dinner @ The Living Cafe 007

Do you know that ZESPRI kiwifruit contains twice the Vitamin C of oranges? Just by consuming ZESPRI kiwifruit alone helps you meet your Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) of Vitamin C everyday! After last year’s memorable ZESPRI kiwi-licious four-course dinner at Heart Bistro, missuschewy is very delighted to be once again invited to another round of bloggers’ dinner that cleverly incorporated ZESPRI kiwifruits! This time, the dinner was held at The Living Cafe along Bukit Timah Road.

Zespri Kiwi Dinner @ The Living Cafe 005

Asked my secondary school BFF along because for someone who loves fruits, I’m sure she would enjoy the dinner!

Great to see Maureen and Rae too!

Zespri Kiwi Dinner @ The Living Cafe 019

Once again, it is proven that ZESPRI kiwifruit can be used to create a wonderful four-course meal. We started off with Raw Bruschetta with Pesto and Kiwi Salsa. By ‘raw’, we mean unprocessed or uncooked so please do not be alarmed when you see the words ‘raw kiwi’. The starter was a great appetite whetter due to its amazing tangy-sweet-sour combination!

Zespri Kiwi Dinner @ The Living Cafe 025

I thought that the Raw Kiwi and Apple Gazpacho Soup had turned cold because we took too many photos and then Maureen reminded me that it’s ‘raw’. Ahhh silly me. Not your usual type of soup. I personally found that the taste of onions was a little overpowering.

Zespri Kiwi Dinner @ The Living Cafe 029

If there’s one thing I want to attempt to recreate in my own kitchen, it would definitely be the Grilled Salmon Fillet! Stuffed with cauliflower puree, served with mixed salad and kiwi citrus, I give it two thumbs up.

Zespri Kiwi Dinner @ The Living Cafe 041

Now comes the best part of the meal. The Raw Kiwi Pie was simply amazing. Apart of kiwifruit, it was made using nuts and nut milk. This dessert was admittedly sour with a good mix of sweetness! I finished off the raw kiwi pie with ease.

Thanks to ZESPRI, I will be conducting a giveaway on my Facebook page at www.facebook.com/missuschewy next week! Be sure to ‘like’ my page to stay updated on the amazing ZESPRI giveaway! There will be really awesome prizes to be won!

ZESPRI Kiwifruit: A Kiwi-licious Four-Course Dinner

Zespri Kiwi

Do you know that ZESPRI kiwifruit are the most ‘nutrient dense’ of popular fruits and belong in the category of “Super Fruits”? They are a rich source of a great variety of nutrients such as Vitamin C, fibre, potassium, zinc, magnesium, have a low Glycemic Index of 52 and are high in antioxidants! I’m glad that my mum got me started on the habit of eating both ZESPRI Green and Gold kiwifruits on a regular basis. The first time I ate a kiwifruit, I tried to peel the hairy skin to get to the fruit but that’s not the right way! The easiest way to eat a kiwifruit is to cut one into half and scoop out the ripe fruit from the skin with a spoon. I’m also excited to share with you that kiwifruit can easily be incorporated into your daily needs. Heart Bistro’s chef took up the challenge and whipped up a tantalizing four-course dinner with his clever use of this nutritional powerhouse. ZESPRI kiwi in my soup? Yums!

Green kiwi + Green apple + Honeydew

Pooja from The Nutrition Clinic gave us an insight on the various health benefits of kiwifruits and emphasized the point that the consumption of this fruit aids the entire body as a whole and not just any one part of the body alone. We had a zesty ZESPRI drink, a lovely blend of green kiwi, green apple and honeydew, to sip on while listening to the engaging nutritionist. If you are preparing kiwifruit juice or puree, stop the food processor before the seeds get crushed as this can add a slightly bitter flavor.

Salad of Kiwi with green mango + crispy fish

This Salad of Kiwi with Green Mango and Crispy Fish is unmistakably a variation of Thailand’s iconic mango salad with the addition of diced kiwifruit lending a mild sweetness to the overall dish. Guaranteed to arouse and awaken the taste buds!

Clear lemongrass - scented soup with poached seafood + fresh green kiwi

We were initially quite apprehensive over finding kiwi slices in our bowls of soup but hey, it tastes really great! The Clear Lemongrass Soup with Poached Seafood and Fresh Green Kiwi packs a punch and stimulates the appetite.

Herb + spice roasted spring chicken with Kiwi salsa

ZESPRI kiwifruit contains actinidin, which is a natural meat tenderizer. Simply peel and mash the kiwifruit and spread the pulp on the meat. Let it stand for 10 to 15 minutes, scrape off the pulp and discard. And yes, the Herb & Spice Roasted Spring Chicken with Kiwi Salsa was incredibly juicy and tender beyond words! I’m slightly embarrassed to say this, but I couldn’t resist eating the skin of the chicken!

Kiwi trifle + saffron mousse

I had been looking forward to the Kiwi Trifle & Saffron Mousse since the start of the dinner! The dessert was simply mind-blowing. I loved the contrasting textures and this dessert was not cloyingly sweet.

chewys @ zespri

We would like to thank Vanessa from Edelman Public Relations for the invitation, Pooja from The Nutrition Clinic for sharing the benefits of eating kiwifruit and to ZESPRI and Heart Bistro for the kiwi-licious dinner!

Onion Restaurant and Bar: Birthday Treat from MissTamChiak

_MG_7831-001

This is gonna be my final birthday post for this year, I promise! πŸ˜› Was supposed to go on an exclusive romantic date with Maureen but she was kind enough to ‘insist’ that misterchewy join us too. She let me choose the location but I really had a long list of to-go places so it was kinda hard to come to a final decision! We agreed on Onion Restaurant and Bar in the end because we passed by it when we went for the ZESRPI kiwifruit dinner earlier on. It’s actually along the same stretch. My cousin, Sharon had recommended this restaurant to me so this was a good opportunity πŸ˜€

_MG_7739-001

Don’t ask me why the restaurant is called ‘Onion’ when they specialize in tapas, oysters and wine! Does anybody know? Hehe.

_MG_7734-001

Amuse bouche.

_MG_7747-001

Not sure if this is considered another amuse bouche. LOL. This gigantic oyster was served shortly after we whipped out our DSLRs.

_MG_7744-001

_MG_7761-001

I had the honour of polishing off this delicacy because Maureen and misterchewy don’t like the taste of oysters! Hahaha lucky me! πŸ˜€

_MG_7756-001

Seriously, one is just not enough.

_MG_7772-001

The three of us ordered two soups to share. The Lobster Bisque ($12.80) was thick, creamy and full of that delicious crustacean flavor.

_MG_7767-001

I was quite disappointed with the Clear French Onion Soup ($11.80) though, after reading quite a few reviews that seem to sing praises for it. Felt that something was lacking and it didn’t really pack a punch.

_MG_7752-001

We asked for some recommendations and the waiter suggested that we try the Gambas al Ajillo ($10.80). It was well-flavored with Spanish garlic and I reckon that garlic lovers would truly love this dish.

_MG_7749-001

Another much raved about dish was the Duck Confit on Mushroom Stew ($14.80). The shredded chunks of duck were very tender and were served with stewed oyster mushrooms. The combination was perfect and you should only attempt to eat this with the fluffy pita bread.

_MG_7797-001

_MG_7801-001

_MG_7802-001

_MG_7787-001

Each of us had a main to ourselves. I chose the Spicy Crabmeat Spaghetti with Caviar ($16.80) with sweet and spicy tomato sauce. I don’t usually go for tomato sauce based pastas but this had the right amount of sweetness and the sauce wasn’t too thick. I wish they had given me more crabmeat and caviar though! πŸ˜›

_MG_7783-001

Maureen wanted to order the same but she went for the Roasted Lamb Rack with Fresh Herbs ($25.80) so that we could try different dishes. I really thought that the lamb rack tasted as good as it looked. It had a slightly smoked gamey flavor which was enough to tantalize the taste buds. A pity that they served only a few miserable slices!

_MG_7804-001

_MG_7815-001

*GASP* Maureen baked me a Frou Frou cake! What a pleasant surprise! It is essentially a cake made using raspberries and dessicated coconut, among other ingredients πŸ™‚ The chef was kind enough to plate it. It was Maureen’s first attempt baking this and it was pure success! This girl is a baking genius!

_MG_7808-001

_MG_7806-001

_MG_7829-001

_MG_7820-002

_MG_7825-002

Thank you misstamchiak for the lovely birthday treat and for baking me the sweetest cake ever! I would also like to take this opportunity to thank my primary school bestie Adelene for the present and birthday dinner at Paradise Dynasty as well as my bunch of secondary school buddies for the awesome dinner at Hungry Chimps. You guys rock! πŸ˜€
