Annyeong chingu! This post covers our 5th day in Korea! We had just returned to Seoul from Busan the night before and I’m glad we got our day tour package to Nami Island, Gangchon Rail Park and Garden of Morning Calm via Changi Recommends!

33777234928_b8224b9237_o

It was a nice change as we did not have to fuss over the logistics of booking entrance passes and transportation. Shuttle bus service is provided so all we had to do was just to hop on and off at the designated timings! The hubs could finally take a break from all the navigation he had to do over the past few days.

40688116393_ea8c0df828_o

There are 3 pickup locations namely Hongik, Myeongdong and Dongdaemun. We selected Myeongdong as it was closest to our accommodation and we picked up some delicious gimbap along the way!

A32A8928

Our first stop of the day was Nami Island! Gotta take a photo with these adorable snowmen figurines! My first trip to this attraction was more than 10 years ago, after watching the famous Korean drama “Winter Sonata” starring Bae Yong-joon and Choi Ji-woo. I’m sure most of you would know that the popular series was shot on Nami Island!

There are a number of activities which you can do at Nami Island, one of which is to take photos of/with the beautiful flowers!

A32A8947

A collection of photos from Winter Sonata!

A32A8951
A32A8955

I remember there used to be this life-sized cardboard cutout of Bae Yong-joon and Choi Ji-woo in this exact same pose.

A32A8963

Our very own version! Can pass? 😛

A32A8967
A32A8980

We saw some people riding rented bicycles around the park but I don’t know how to cycle so we stuck around taking photos.

Our local guide told us to meet him earlier if we wanted to eat the best Dak Galbi on Nami Island and since it was lunch time, we thought it was a great idea! I’m not sure why we opted for the non-spicy version though since I’m a fan of spicy food! We also ordered some tteokbokki and garlic fried rice. Mashisoyo~!

Do note that this isn’t included in the tour package but it’s really yummy so you wouldn’t wanna miss this!

Untitled

Spent the next hour on the shuttle bus to get to our second destination of the day, Gangchon Rail Park! To be honest, I was most looking forward to this part of the day tour! It seems like rail bikes are fast gaining popularity in Korea.

A32A9100

If you wanna have some privacy with your friends or other half, I would strongly recommend paying a little bit more for the private rail bikes. The queue is also significantly shorter.

A32A9099

This was the queue for the shared rail bike which was snaking all the way to the back. Also, I strongly suggest that a trip to the washroom be made before you start queuing for the rail bike tour as the queuing plus activity itself would take about an hour.

A32A9112

One of the perks of joining the day tour is having your local guide snap photos for you!

A32A9110
A32A9130

Wheeeee! And off we go!

A32A9145

Pedaling is fairly effortless only if all parties pedal at the same time. Once in a while I would be too engrossed with taking photos, leaving misterchewy to do the pedaling on his own. LOL.

A32A9148

The Happy Bubble Tunnel is one of the highlights of Gangchon Rail Park as there are different colored lightings and bubbles as we passed through the tunnel. Very pretty!

A32A9153
A32A9154
A32A9160
A32A9176

We were having the time of our lives!

A32A9169
A32A9135

It was certainly a very fun experience and I highly recommend trying out this activity!

A32A9224

The last stop of our day tour was the Garden of Morning Calm, which we ironically visited in the evening! By then we were already very tired but we were thankful to be transported in the comfortable shuttle bus which is included in the day tour package.

A32A9242

We were given slightly more than an hour to tour the garden and since it was fairly huge, misterchewy and I narrowed down to just two areas for some photos.

A32A9248
A32A9192

We reckon that the pavilion situated in the middle of the pond is the most beautiful sight at the Garden of Morning Calm. Also, “Love in the Moonlight” starring Park Bo-gum and Kim Yoo-jung was shot at this location! *Eyes shooting hearts*

A32A9205
A32A9193
A32A9218
A32A9230

There’s also a nice little white church which can accommodate about 8 people.

A32A9237
47663475281_f39467a19a_o

Even though we had a filling lunch earlier, we were famished after the rail bike activity and walking around the garden. Grabbed a quick bite before we boarded the shuttle bus back to Myeongdong and this marked the end of our superb day tour to Gapyeong!

A32A9216

The day tour to Nami Island, Gangchon Rail Park and Garden of Morning Calm by Changi Recommends is highly recommended and you can book it easily via this link. Hope you guys enjoyed this post! Stay tuned for the next! 🙂

Lao Xie Zhen Premium Boiled Essence of Chicken by Hao Yi Kang

PB187699

A very common question that many people like to ask me, “How do you juggle working full-time and being a mother of two young children?” Truth be told, there are days when I get super lethargic and moody. I am no superwoman after all. Over the past month, I have been consuming Lao Xie Zhen Premium Boiled Essence of Chicken which Hao Yi Kang is an exclusive distributor of, and I am able to feel the positive effects it has on me.

PB187702

I may not be an expert at tasting chicken essence but having consumed a particular brand’s dark colored essence of chicken in glass bottles over the years, my first taste of Lao Xie Zhen Premium Boiled Essence of Chicken immediately won me over. The delicious flavor is derived from using 2nd generation hens that are at least 12 months old and boiled together with premium pork ribs for 8 hours. Premium pork ribs enhance the collagen content and add different layers of taste.

PB207723

Traditional slow-boiling method incorporating advanced hydration technology is used, while small amount of water is added as a medium to help to fully extract the micro molecular and macro molecular nutrients from the ingredients during the extraction process. Nutritional tests have found that the level of protein is higher in chicken essence prepared by the slow-boiling method.

PB187714

I like that Lao Xie Zhen Premium Boiled Essence of Chicken is packaged in a 4-layered opaque sachet exclusively imported from Japan. Similar to baby bottles, the inner packaging material is tested with no plasticizer and heavy metal residue thus making it very safe for our consumption. I choose the most convenient way of consuming Lao Xie Zhen Premium Boiled Essence of Chicken, which is by submerging the sachet in a bowl of hot water for a couple of minutes, and then drinking it straight from the sachet after tearing it open. The sachets are also flat, making it very easy for me to carry one to work every morning.

PB197718

Lao Xie Zhen Premium Boiled Essence of Chicken is rich in protein, amino acids & collagen, contains 18 types of amino acids and is 100% natural (No preservative, no additives, no antibiotics, no plasticizer, no heavy metal residue, zero fats & cholesterol). The taste is also very natural, in fact, it tastes like very delicious and rich chicken soup! I can also feel the sticky texture on my lips, which is proof that there is collagen in Lao Xie Zhen Premium Boiled Essence of Chicken. The best time to consume this is in the morning, before breakfast. I feel alert throughout the day, and also don’t seem to keep forgetting things.

award-sowell-1296x800

Voted 2018 Best Chicken Essence by Mummys Market Singapore, Lao Xie Zhen Premium Boiled Essence of Chicken is best for pregnant women as it helps in the growth of the baby, repair cells and tissues in the body and provides fetal support. Post-natal, it aids in wound healing and also boost milk supply. As Lao Xie Zhen Premium Boiled Essence of Chicken has a very high protein content, it is suitable for daily nourishment and also supplementation during recuperation. I would highly recommend it to students, working adults and the elderly for boosting immune system and combating fatigue. With a shelf life of 18 months after manufacturing without preservatives, Lao Xie Zhen Premium Boiled Essence of Chicken makes a very meaningful gift for the people you truly care for.

Untitled

The sun-deck is very popular as it offers a beautiful unobscured view of the sea and beyond.

Even without joining the KK City Night Dinner Cruise, we could still experience nightfall while out at sea.

We have come to the end of our Kota Kinbalu series of blog posts! We would like to sincerely thank the following for their kind hospitality and for making this trip a splendid one for all of us:

Flights – AirAsia
Accommodation – Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa
Activities – Sabah Tourism Board

THANK YOU! 🙂

Manukan Island in Kota Kinabalu

Untitled

In one of my earlier posts documenting our Sabah holiday trip, Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa is our highly recommended choice of accommodation especially for families with children because of the wide range of kid-friendly amenities. Apart from that, private jetty STAR Marina is exclusively owned and operated by the resort, offering guests easy accessibility to neighbouring islands for day trips and beach activities. If you have some hours to spare, you can take the speedboat shuttle to Manukan Island!

It was the girls’ first time taking a speedboat. Little misschewy was totally enjoying the ride while Mini misschewy was a little scared and clung onto Daddy. Life vests were provided before we set off and the journey was just a short 5 to 10 minutes.

Untitled

Untitled

Manukan Island is the second largest island in Tunku Abdul Rahman Park. It was mood-lifting to see the sandy white beach and pristine clear waters when we set foot on the island.

Untitled

Untitled

If you like to unwind at the beach, Manukan Island is a great choice. Besides sandcastle-building for young children, scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking and parasailing are just some of the many activities that one can do at Manukan Island.

Untitled

Great bonding session for families and nice sensory experience for little kids.

Untitled

For visitors who want to escape from the heat at Manukan Island, there are many benches lined up along the beach with ample shade from the trees. There are also some shops and cafes selling snacks and drinks.

Untitled

Untitled

Untitled

Untitled

We had lunch at a cafe to fill our hungry tummies before returning to our resort.

Untitled

Untitled

If you love the sun, sand and sea, you definitely have to visit Manukan Island when you head to Kota Kinabalu!

Mari Mari Cultural Village Kota Kinabalu

Untitled

We travel for a myriad of reasons. Apart from travelling as a form of escapism and to rejuvenate ourselves, we also seek to gain knowledge that you cannot get just by reading books. During our recent trip to Sabah, a visit to Mari Mari Cultural Village provided us with the opportunity to see and experience for ourselves, the culture and lifestyle of how the indigenous ethnic groups of Borneo used to live in the olden days when electricity had not yet been introduced in their land. Mari Mari Cultural Village is situated amidst a remote forest setting in Kionsom, Inanam; away from the hustling and bustling Kota Kinabalu city. The village operates as a museum that preserves Borneo ethnic culture with the aim to share knowledge, history, culture, and tradition of Borneo with visitors so that it is not forgotten.

P7017076

Mari Mari Cultural Village features 5 different ethnic tribes. They are the rice farmer Kadazan-Dusun, the longhouse resident Rungus, the hunters and fisherman Lundayeh, the cowboy and sea gypsey Bajau, and the famously feared headhunting tribe Murut. I find it interesting that the village’s in-house guides are actually descendants of among the 5 tribes in the village.

Untitled

Our journey began with all of us crossing the wobbly suspension bridge over a small river.

Untitled

Untitled

Our in-house guide showed us around each of the different tribe houses to learn about their different lifestyles, cultures, and histories.

Untitled

Untitled

Untitled

P7017087

Not only did we get to witness how bamboo was used to cook their meals, we even got to taste the food!

P7017089

P7017094

P7017093

Montoku is a traditional alcoholic drink of the Kadazan-Dusun community and I find that it tastes like whisky!

P7017097

P7017098

Delicious fresh honey.

Untitled

All the tribe houses feature something similar like this. The girls would sleep on the upper deck and their fathers would remove the ladders at night.

P7017103

We were truly amazed that a fire could be started in less than 5 minutes using bamboo! Back then, it was the ladies’ job and we could tell that it is actually physically tiring.

Untitled

The Murut blow-pipe was a pretty fun experience for all of us. It is a bit like archery except that you use your mouth to hit your target!

Untitled

Looks easy but it’s not! In the olden days, the blow-pipe was used as a weapon.

P7017150

Untitled

The Lansaran is like a traditional trampoline made from bamboo and much to our surprise, it can carry a lot of weight.

Untitled

More than 10 people jumping on the lansaran? No problem!

P7017160

After visiting the 5 tribal houses, we proceeded to the event hall to watch the traditional performances.

P7017172

P7017175

My favorite was the bamboo dance as I was captivated by how gracefully the dancers step in and out of the bamboo poles.

Untitled

Little misschewy and I took part in the bamboo dance too. All I can say that it is a lot harder than it looks but it was a fun experience!

Untitled

During the 2-hour tour around Mari Mari Cultural Village, we felt as though we were transported back in time, as we enriched ourselves in new found knowledge. Being able to participate in some of the activities was indeed an authentic experience that we will never forget. Click here to find out more about the itinerary and price if you are keen!

The Chewys had a fabulous and unforgettable three-night stay at Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa when we travelled to Kota Kinabalu two weeks ago. Apart from its close proximity of around 6.5km from Kota Kinabalu Airport, Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa is located just 10 minutes away from the city. For families with young children, the resort’s ideal location serves as a convenient base for exploring Borneo’s rich cultural heritage.

Just two and a half hours by air from Singapore, we flew with AirAsia and arrived Kota Kinabalu without any hiccups. Upon stepping into Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa, we were warmly greeted with nice refreshing welcome drinks and were then led the way to our rooms at the Kinabalu Wing.

Family Room - bedroom

It was a pleasant surprise for all of us when we entered our Kinabalu Club Family Room. The kids were particularly excited by the children’s room. Each Family Room offers 66 square meters of luxury and comfortably accommodates 2 adults and 2 children, with plenty of extra space. All guests of Kinabalu Club rooms will get to enjoy personalised services and added privileges such as complimentary daily buffet breakfast, complimentary beverages all day, and evening drinks with predetermined hours, at the Kinabalu Club Lounge.

Untitled

We appreciate waking up to the beautiful and tranquil sea view from our hotel room every morning.

The children’s room is equipped with a bunk bed and child-friendly furniture. One can also expect children’s amenities and welcome packs.

Untitled

Little misschewy and Mini misschewy were so excited that they clambered up the bunk bed and made themselves comfortable there while misterchewy and I checked out the parents’ room with balcony, ensuite bathroom with extra towels, separate shower and soaking tub.

Untitled

The kids were allowed to watch cartoon every morning and night, but only because we were on holiday!

Untitled

Untitled

The Kinabalu Club Lounge is where most of the magic happens! We had our breakfast there every morning during our stay. We loved the experience as it was exclusive to Club room guests and we received detailed attention from the staff.

Untitled

Untitled

Untitled

I was too occupied with eating that I forgot to take photos. The breakfast buffet spread at the Kinabalu Club Lounge is actually very impressive! We had smoked salmon, seafood congee, potato wedges, sauteed mushrooms, sushi, omelette, along with various buns and pastries. The kids usually chose bread or cereal with milk.

Untitled

We also got the opportunity to have dinner at Shang Palace with the lovely Comms ladies Claudina and Daphne.

Shang Palace

Living up to its name, the food at Shang Palace was delectable and exquisite. We chatted and ate to our hearts’ content. Some of my favorites include the Marinated Cantonese “Qingyan” Chicken, Braised Beancurd with Assorted Mushrooms, Stir-fried Sliced Grouper Fillets with Ginger, Scallions and Pepper, and Dry Butter Style Crab. The kids were not forgotten and had comforting bowls of minced pork porridge with salted egg and dough fritters on the side. Shang Palace is definitely a family-friendly restaurant in Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa that serves quality food.

Untitled

*Ahem..* And if the other half allows, adjourn to the Kinabalu Club Lounge for complimentary evening drinks. The husband was thrilled to see a variety of alcoholic beverages such as beer, whisky and hard liquor. Of course he had the company of a fellow Daddy friend as his drinking partner while the mummies stayed in the rooms to take care of the little ones.

Chi The Spa 07
Photo credit: Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa

Mummies need their “me time” too and there is no better way to pamper ourselves than indulging in a spa session at CHI, The Spa!

Untitled

The spa design concept is certainly very unique, with a standalone spa village sitting on an island connected to the hotel by a private causeway. It is also interesting to note that traditional Borneo treatments on the spa menu are plant-based in nature, energy aware and reflect the multi-cultural heritage of the region.

Untitled

Advance booking prior to treatment time is recommended. Spa wear will be provided in your treatment suite.

Untitled

CHI, The Spa has a very comprehensive spa menu offering five categories of treatments – Wellness Journeys, Body Treatments (Scrubs), Body Treatments (Wraps), Massages and Facial Treatments. If you are a mummy like me, who often feel tightness in the back, neck and shoulders, I highly recommend the Signature Malaysian Re-energizing Massage! My therapist Zetty was very skillful in easing out all the tight knots within the one hour session.

Untitled

If an hour is all you can spare, I say, go for the massage and you will definitely not regret it! I felt so rejuvenated and alive after the session!

Untitled

Happy mummies who couldn’t wait to get back to the kids!

Untitled

It was reassuring to know that our kids had a ball of fun at the Cool Zone when the mummies were away at the spa!

Untitled

Upon entering the Cool Zone, the beautifully hand-painted walls, featuring aquatic and land animals found only in Sabah, provide a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for both children and their parents.

Untitled

Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa provides babysitting services at MYR 30 per hour for children aged five and above only when the Kids Club is not open. It is advisable that bookings are to be made at least one day in advance. Parents can drop their children off anytime between 10am to 6pm and the resort’s professionally trained, English speaking staff will supervise and keep the children entertained while parents relax in the sun or explore the sights of Sabah.

Untitled

The Cool Zone is divided into different areas such as the toddler section, creativity area for painting and craftwork, and the computer & TV room.

Cool Zone

I’m glad that the husband managed to snap some photos as evidence that Little misschewy and Mini misschewy enjoyed playing with the toys at the Cool Zone!

Untitled

The first and only one of its kind in Borneo, the water play area at Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa comprises of a dedicated section for toddlers, teenagers and an interactive area for all ages. Guests of all ages can enjoy the theme-park-quality water slides measuring a total length of 100 metres. Other fun facilities include water battle stations with water balloon launchers, a 2,000-sqm swimming pool with a tapered shoreline for children and an infinity pool section for adults.

Untitled

Due to our packed itinerary, we didn’t have much time to explore the beautiful resort but we managed to squeeze time out after breakfast for a couple of photos.

Silhouette Soft Face Threadlift by La Clinic

Edited-5

Reality sets in once you reach your 30s and you cannot help but notice signs of aging. Just by looking at someone’s face, you can somewhat estimate his or her age. We look at ourselves in the mirror every single day and you know that your skin is aging when you start to notice that your cheeks are less plump, eyelids are drooping and fine lines appear around your face.

Edited-6

The one thing that had been bothering me for a long time was my nasolabial folds, also known as laugh lines. When I was much younger, laugh lines sounded pretty cool to me as I thought that only people who were truly happy and laughed a lot would have these lines on their faces. Now that I have these laugh lines, I’m worried and horrified at the same time. In fact, I had done face fillers in the past but the effects did not last long enough for me.

Edited-14

I had a fruitful consultation session with Dr Rachel Ho of La Clinic who graduated from the National University of Singapore and was a recipient of multiple awards including the Dean’s List for multiple years. She has a special interest in minimally invasive treatments for anti-aging and enhancement of facial aesthetics. Dr Rachel Ho regularly attends local and international conferences to stay at forefront of the latest trends and advancements in anti-aging and aesthetic medicine. She believes that one can age beautifully and gracefully by combining healthy lifestyle habits with medical aesthetic treatments.

After examining my face closely and determining what needs to be addressed, Dr Rachel Ho suggested a face threadlift using Silhouette Soft threads as a solution to my problems of saggy cheeks and nasolabial folds (laugh lines). Firstly, it is important to know that it the Silhouette Soft face threadlift is US FDA approved to treat face sagging, nasolabial folds and marionette lines. The Silhouette Soft Threadlift is an anti-aging treatment that helps to restore one’s youth by repositioning, providing volume, and stimulating lost collagen production in the face. The threads for Silhouette Soft face threadlift are bio-absorbable sutures that are made of poly L-lactic acid (PLLA). There are various types of threads for face threadlifts available in the market and what makes the Silhouette Soft face threadlift unique is that these threads are lined with bidirectional cones, instead of sharp barbs. The results achieved would be softer, more natural and lasts longer with Silhouette Soft face threadlift, compared to other face threadlifts.

To top it all off, the PLLA threads help to stimulate collagen in the skin after the procedure, giving the face threadlift a gradual lifting effect which can last over a year.

Before the face threadlift, my face was thoroughly cleansed and Dr Rachel Ho began to mark out the insertion points for the face threadlift on my face before she proceeded to inject local anaesthesia. Dr Rachel Ho was careful to make sure my face was sufficiently numb before starting the Silhouette Soft face threadlift. The entire procedure took about half an hour or less; no wonder it’s called a “lunchtime facelift”.

There was minimal pain and it was the pulling and tugging of the threads under my skin that made me feel weird.

The results from the Silhouette Soft face threadlift are instantaneous. As this treatment is minimally invasive, it leaves no scars and has only very minimal downtime, depending on individuals. One look in the mirror and I could tell that my nasolabial folds had disappeared (GASP!!), my cheek plumped up and my jaw line much more defined. I would go as far as to say that the Silhouette Soft face threadlift had helped me to achieve a V-shaped face too!

Dr Rachel Ho took great care to prescribe me with some oral antibiotics and cream to apply. I could still go about my daily chores and eat all my favorite food, except that I had to refrain from alcohol for a week as it would cause even more bruising.

Besides the cheeks, Silhouette Soft face threadlift can also be carried out on different areas of the face such as jaw line, eyebrow, neck, mid face area, as well as contours of the face. Silhouette Soft face threadlift works best for people over the age of 30 because of its dual lift-and-collagen-regenerating effect. Besides the immediate and discreet lifting, Silhouette Soft face threadlift promotes the restoration of lost collagen, which ultimately gives gradual and natural looking results over time.
