便所主题餐厅 (Modern Toilet Restaurant) @ Xi Men Ding, Taiwan

page-1

I took little break from work and went to Taiwan in mid June. It was a very enjoyable and relaxed 8-day trip with Chewy Charles, together with his parents and youngest brother. Before the trip, I was bugging the boy endlessly that I really really reaaally wanted to go to 便所主题餐厅(Modern Toilet Restaurant)! It had been featured on television a long time ago and I just couldn’t get this cute eatery out of my head ever since! 😛 Our tour guide gave us about 2 hours to explore Xi Men Ding on our own and we scrambled in search of this restaurant after eating the renowned 阿宗麵線 (Ah Zong Mian Xian). Umm.. Yes eat and eat and eat! Hello, this is Taiwan we’re talking about!

It’s a modern toilet restaurant so what were you expecting? 😉 I think the older generation might be a little more conservative and find this toilet concept restaurant outrageous or gross but Chewy Charles’ parents are really cool people! Initially, I was rather worried that they might feel uncomfortable about dining here but they could not stop grinning at the novelty of this restaurant too! 🙂

Modern Toilet Chicken Curry 招牌马桶咖哩鸡 (NT$180)

Thank goodness there’s a piece of broccoli in the chicken curry if not it would have looked like the real thing! We were all giggling when this was served first and couldn’t stop taking pictures. The chicken curry came with a bowl of rice and a small serving of preserved vegtables. The gravy was a bit diluted and although it didn’t taste fantastic, it was decent enough to keep us happy 🙂

Smoked Chicken with Cream Sauce Au Gratin 奶油熏鸡焗烤 (NT$220)
Honey Aloe Vera 蜂蜜芦荟 (NT$120)

Chewy Charles’ brother had this smoked chicken gratin in a…. bathtub! Cute right?! He also ordered a honey aloe vera drink which was contained in a men’s urinal. Well, at least it wasn’t chrysanthemum tea 😛

Pork Chops Cordon Bleu 轰炸猪排 (NT$200)

It took us about 3 seconds to decide what is this supposed to be. It’s a toilet seat cover! They really have a way of presenting all their different dishes in the most ‘appropriate’ way. I didn’t eat this but looking at it makes me hungry now. Fried food is yummy!

Chicken Nuggets (NT$90) 便所小鸡块

You know what? I hate to say this but I have to say it! These yummy little pieces of chicken nuggets were awesome! Believe it or not, Chewy Charles and I agreed that they taste even better than our beloved M. Incredibly moist and tender!

Mini soft serve ice cream

Every set meal comes with the soft serve ice cream as shown above (toys not included). It really does look like a pile of sh*t in a squat toilet, no? 😛 It was our intention to choose chocolate ice cream! Hahaha!

Toilet No. 1 Ice Shaving (马桶一号) (NT$100)

便所主题餐厅 has this particular rule whereby every customer has to order at least one item from the menu. Chewy Charles and I chose the chicken curry and this humongous dessert to share. We didn’t know what this 马桶一号 was at first and when it arrived after we were done with our mains, our eyes almost popped out of their sockets. I’m not exaggerating! It was enough to feed at least 5 people! Chocolate ice cream with chocolate sauce! It was pure coincidence this time 😛
