I don’t usually have very strong cravings but when the study buddy asked whether I have tried the ramen at The Central, I immediately thought of an old film that was screened in one of my Japanese Studies lecture. If you watch this 1985 film called Tampopo (not that Tampopo restaurant), starring Ken Watanabe, I assure you that you are bound to look at ramen in a totally different way. Anyway we decided to have lunch at Ramen Santouka! Yay!
For my Tokusen Toroniku ramen ($19), I chose the shoyu (soy sauce) base. The broth was kinda salty but it’s still of an acceptable level. I mean, it’s shoyu base.. So it has to be salty right? 😛
The pork cheeks came separately. Ok I know the study buddy is so going to laugh at me but.. the thick slices of pork cheeks really melt in my mouth! However they are waaaay too salty! They reminded me instantly of this particular brand of canned pork ribs. I just did a quick search in the storeroom. No such luck.
This is the study buddy’s Spicy miso cha siu ramen ($18). Claimed that the noodles were chewy. The broth was too salty and not spicy enough. The cha siu had a very good texture. Haha! Oh well I don’t really know what that means. Maybe I shall try it next time!
Yup and so I finally settled my craving for ramen. Satisfied! Whoohoo!

wow! nice photos you have there! The pork slabs look kinda appetising and if you describe it as though they were ‘melting in your mouth’, i should really go try it one day!
Haha thanks! Kinda sad that I couldnt bring Samuel along cuz I had a very thick coursepack in my bag 🙁 Had to make do with Paula. Yeah but then again.. A lot of fats then can melt in your mouth :X
Wish to try the place one day. Love Japanese food but not sure which place is quite good to go to
Actually the Japanese food scene in Singapore is very vibrant! Shouldnt be a problem for you!
