Strictly Pancakes: First Dedicated Pancake Cafe in Singapore

Please be excited. This is a review on the first dedicated pancake cafe in Singapore, according to Strictly Pancakes. I clearly remember how excited I was when I first read Bella V’s review. To me, pancakes always go hand in hand with maple syrup, chocolate sauce and the like. Imagine pancakes with salmon, chicken or beef patty!

Strictly Pancakes is not difficult to locate. It’s along Prinsep Street, directly opposite PoMo. The are two levels, the first being slightly cramped. We went up to the second, where comfy sofas are also made available for you to just sit back and enjoy your pancakes.

Just as we tennis players know the importance of perfect timing when playing the game of tennis, it was perfect timing when YP the tennis partner suggested going to Strictly Pancakes! I knew I had to drag Chewy Charles along because he was also very enthusiastic about this pancakes cafe πŸ™‚

It was a good thing we agreed that we would all share our pancakes! YP seemed like she was very sure that she only wanted the savory pancakes and went straight for the Garlic Buttered Prawns ($14). A medium stack serves three fluffy pancakes and they were topped with prawns buttered generously with garlic which was not too overwhelming. If you think that garlic buttered prawns and pancakes make a weird combination, you really should cast away all your fears and just go for it! πŸ˜€

Apart from the garlic and herb, the Garlic Buttered Prawns pancakes were also served with maple syrup. Yeah we drizzled maple syrup all over our pancakes and ate them together with the prawns. Can it get any weirder than this? Haha! But hey, it actually tasted pretty good!

Sometimes Chewy Charles and I think that we really have a lot in common, especially when it comes to food. Well, it’s also probably because I eat almost everything, even stuff that he doesn’t πŸ˜› The both of us have a sweet tooth and we have our eyes set on the sweet pancakes instead of the savory ones. Confirm!

Chewy Charles chose What-A-Spread! ($10). We were all prepared to drool at the peanut butter pancakes layered with nutella. The pancakes were served with two sticks of Kinder Bueno and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Contrary to Bella V’s review, I felt that the taste of nutella was clearly overpowered by the peanut butter. On the whole, we all agreed that What-A-Spread actually tasted like mi chiam kueh.. Haha! It was also a little dry so we happily dipped our pancakes in the ice cream πŸ™‚

I was craving for something sweet and sourish and hence, the Lemon Curd For The Nerds ($10). Haha but that doesn’t mean that I’m a nerd in any way πŸ˜› The chocolate pancakes were less fluffy but definitely more chewy than the original ones. I think I got the piece that did not have much lemon custard on it because both YP and Chewy Charles claimed that it was really sour. YP commented that the sourness hit her first before she tasted the chocolate pancakes. I did not find it particularly sour probably because mine was smeared with vanilla ice cream.

We shared three types of pancakes which have a medium stack of three pancakes among the three of us. You do the math πŸ˜› Surprisingly, we were really full after that! If you love pancakes, come on down to Strictly Pancakes! Definitely worth a try, very wallet-friendly and the service is great! πŸ™‚

  1. I do feel the nutella overwhelms the pb flavour in the pancake. haha. The flavours are not that distinctive but when eaten together, it just gotta be good. πŸ™‚ You should probably try out Cedele’s pancake too if you’ve read my recent review. Probably one of the softest pancakes ever! Their pure, organic maple syrup I feel is much better compared to SP too. πŸ˜€
