Victor’s Kitchen: Dim Sum For Everyone!

page

Recently, my brother completed his Basic Military Training (BMT) and we had Dim Sum for brunch after his Passing Out Parade (POP) at the Marina Bay Floating Platform. Victor’s Kitchen opens at 10.30am. When we reached there slightly before that, there was already a queue..

Tasty Queen Size Siew Mai & Victor's King Prawn Dumpling

It’s funny when we looked through the menu and to think how Victor’s Kitchen tries to convince its customers to tick off some of the items listed. How could anyone resist a Tasty Queen Size Siew Mai ($3.50) and Victor’s King Prawn Dumpling ($4)? Some might laugh it off, thinking that Victor’s is probably suffering from delusions of grandeur. Size wise, Victor’s is bound to impress as it certainly lives up to its name. Siew Mai was nice but the prawn dumplings are a bit salty.

Fresh Vegetable & Scallop Dumpling

Haha.. Teochews must order the Yummy Teochew Steam Dumpling ($3.50). Honestly, I can’t really remember what else was inside apart from vegetable, but the dumplings tasted quite decent.

Chicken & Sausage in Glutinous Rice

Unwrapping the lotus leaf revealed a very fragrant Chicken & Sausage in Glutinous Rice ($4). The glutinous rice here was sticky and soft, unlike some places where sticky and hard glutinous rice is the norm.

Scallop, Sausage Carrot Cake with XO Sauce

Would you be surprised if I told you that this is carrot cake? This is actually Scallop, Sausage Carrot Cake with XO Sauce ($4). Carrot cake was submerged with XO sauce. Look what happened when we didn’t eat this immediately..

I guess the carrot cake soaked up all the XO sauce. Carrot cake was soft and mashy, unlike the pan-fried kind. XO taste was mild.

Yummy Chicken Roll with Fish Bladder, Baby Corn, Fresh Chicken etc

Yummy Chicken Roll ($4) was prepared with fish bladder, baby corn, fresh chicken. Chewy Charles and I thought that it was not yummy at all. We just didn’t like it. Bleah 😛

Yummy Teochew Steam Dumpling

I don’t really fancy vegetable in my dumplings but the Fresh Vegetable & Scallop Dumpling ($3.50) tasted pretty good for it was juicy and moist and scallop bits were crunchy.

Yummy Yummy Phoenix Claws

They had to emphasize on the word ‘yummy’ didn’t they? The well-marinated Yummy Yummy Phoenix Claws ($3.50) are a must.

Fresh Ribs with Black Bean Sauce Steam Rice

Another dim sum item that we never fail to order is the steamed pork ribs. Fresh Ribs with Black Bean Sauce Steam Rice ($3.50) with bits of fat were tantalizing but a little bit salty.

Fresh Chicken with Wolfberry Fruit & Rosey Wine Steam Rice

I really liked this Fresh Chicken with Wolfberry Fruit & Rosey Wine Steam Rice ($3.50). Chicken was tender and I wished that the steamed rice had some of the gravy that was used to prepare the chicken.

Char Siew Cheong Fun

We loved the texture of the Char Siew Cheong Fun ($3.50). Rice roll was firm to the bite. It really stands out from the rice roll served at other dim sum places!

King Prawn with Vegetable Cheong Fun

The same can be said for the King Prawn with Vegetable Cheong Fun ($4).

I am not sure if I would recommend the H.K. Style Pan Fry Cheong Fun ($4). Didn’t find this remarkable. It’s kinda like zhai er (commonly served with vegetarian beehoon).

Yutiao Cheong Fun

This is my first time seeing such a dim sum dish. I kinda liked the Yutiao Cheong Fun ($3) for its two contrasting textures.

Yummy Milky Custard Bun

I was looking forward to the Yummy Milky Custard Bun ($3.50) but it was just plain custard bun. Nothing exciting about it.

Golden Egg Yolk Lava Bun

Now, this is definitely the best among all the Dim Sum items that we had eaten at Victor’s Kitchen. The Golden Egg Yolk Lava Bun ($3.50) arrived piping hot and we had to be careful not to spill the molten egg yolk lava. A little sweet and salty, I wished I had more space in my stomach for more of these!

  1. I agree with alkanphel. The cathay restaurant’s custard bun is one of my top 3 favourite apart from royal China and Taste Paradise! But other dim sums there are pretty average to me. Its been such a long time since I’ve visited victor’s kitchen. I guess its time for a revisit soon!

  2. Went to this place today, My experience for this dim sum restaurant is disappointing. Terrible customer service , Horrible management and their food isn’t that good..I believe their food standard they deliver to customers isn’t consistent. Very bad!The dim sum i tried specially those mention is not even up to standard in my opinion. The dumplings isn’t skillfully made as they are holes in 2 out of 3 dumplings which made the texture taste dry. Apart from that. Is their customer service. It took them good 40 min just to have the drinks (Ice milo, Niwa) after asking them about 3 times. Even thought is busy hrs. They shouldn’t have provide such service. 40 mins waiting for drinks is ridiclous. And the price of their dim sum is about crystal jade rate. The comparision of their service and food. Is way gap apart. I Don’t see how this restaurant is recommended to anyone. Think twice before you try this. This is my review for this. I am not saying their food is bad. However, Is overrated and its food standard is not consistent. For the price i am paying. Is totally not worth it. Why should people pay for this. When the customer service. staff management ,Food standard Fails.

    • Hi there, thanks for commenting! I don’t deny the fact that the service at Victor’s is truly lacking but most reviews rate the food above average. As I had mentioned above, not all dishes were good. Lava buns were the best and I felt some of the rest were a bit salty. Lastly, taste is very subjective. What is written in my review is based on own opinion. 🙂
