Taste Paradise: A Delicious Dim Sum Victory

Tennis

The boyfriend rocks! He gave me celebratory treat after my doubles partner and I clinched Championship for a recent Tennis tournament! πŸ˜€ It was just a fun event organized by my country club but he insisted on giving me a surprise treat as he was really happy for me. Haha but little did he know that he was in for a surprise too! πŸ˜›

He was supposed to take me to Paradise Dynasty to try the colorful dumplings but somehow, he got it mixed up with Taste Paradise. When we were looking through the dim sum list, he was scratching his head and wondering what happened to the colorful dumpings! Haha my silly boy is so cute leh! πŸ˜›

We arrived slightly after 3pm which is a pretty bad timing I guess.. Last order was at 3.30pm and the place would be closed at 4.30pm for dinner preparations. We hastily ticked some items off the dim sum list and while waiting for the food, we were drawn by this peculiar looking teapot! πŸ™‚

We actually ordered the dumplings with foie gras which cost about $7+. Instead, the Steamed Shanghai Pork Dumplings ($4.20) were served to us unknowingly. Funny thing was, I ate the first dumpling, frowned in disappointment and lamented to the boyfriend that the dumplings were a rip-off because we could not taste the foie gras at all. It was only when the bill came did we realize that they got our order wrong.. Anyway, the dumplings were decent but they were smaller than your average XLB. *sniff sniff*

Yeah it is days like this when we felt like having Siew Mai ($4.80) instead of Har Gau πŸ˜› Nothing spectacular about the siew mai but the amount of fish roe is fairly generous! Adds to the extra crunch. Yum yum πŸ™‚

My eyes lit up when I spotted the XO Chee Cheong Fun ($5.80) in the menu. The rice roll was thick and firm and had a very nice chewy bite! The taste of XO sauce was nicely infused and was not too overwhelming. There was also a spicy kick to it. We like! πŸ˜€

The first thing I noticed when I picked up one of the BBQ Pork Pastries ($3.90) with my chopsticks was that it weighed considerably heavier than the usual stuff. It didn’t take us long to find out why because it was completely stuffed! It’s always the sweet, sticky and moist barbecued minced pork that draws me to this! πŸ™‚

Now this is definitely the STAR! We peeled open the Steamed Custard Bun ($4.50) with caution so as not to waste any of that golden goodness. The molten egg yolk was more sweet than salty but not as rich as the ones at Victor’s. Chewy Charles remarked that these are better but I remain undecided! πŸ˜› Yeah and would you believe it? One of the waitresses came by and we shook our heads when they called out for last orders. But after biting into these, we had to frantically her back because one long is simply not enough! πŸ˜›

Egg tarts are irresistable but Mini Egg Tarts ($3.60) are even more irresistable! How could anyone ever say no to the delicate, flaky crust and smooth wobbly custard? πŸ™‚

It was exciting popping in for dim sum after 3pm and having to leave in less than 2 hours! Hahaha! It was all the more fun with the usual taking of photos, tweeting/instagraming and updating of our food haunts on facebook while eating at the same time! πŸ˜‰

  1. Its not difficult to get confused by the 2 restaurants, similar name and close proximity. I’ve never been to Taste, but I LOVE custard buns!! grats on the win too!
