Jara Petit Baby Shower Dessert Table Set Up

A32A9015

Another milestone achieved! Baby Cayla is turning one month old on 9 September, which happens to be misterchewy’s birthday, as well as our ROM anniversary! Due to Chinese traditions, people usually hold a full month party a little before a newborn actually turns a month old, and not after. Since it had to be on a weekend, we held a small party for Mini misschewy last Sunday at Warren Golf and Country Club. Really appreciate all the sponsors who have stepped forward after I announced my pregnancy to the whole wide world. LOL. One of them are the very sweet girls, Jia Hui and Cara from Jara Petit, who contacted me even before I delivered! I blogged about their Baby Shower Packages (Cheesecups) before and they have expanded their menu ever since!

A32A8923

We had a bigger venue this time, so we opted for a Dessert Table Set Up since it will liven up the party! The dessert table can be customised to individual’s preferences and is suitable for baby showers, weddings and parties of 30 persons and above. Ours was a Dessert Table for 30 pax ($330) which includes 30 assorted Cheesecups, 15 assorted Cheesecake Jars, 1 Classic Mini Whole Cheesecake and 20 customised toppers. Price is inclusive of decorations, set up and collection. You can also add on red eggs and ang ku kueh at a fee. Jara Petit also caters for 50, 80 and 100 pax.

A32A8948

TADAH!! This is the completed look of our dessert table! We ordered the balloons elsewhere and the frames with our photographs were decorated by my mum. I re-used the name banner which I ordered for Cayla’s newborn shoot. If you wanna know more, just go to my Instagram or drop me an email la. Haha. Everything else was from Jara Petit! Ok la except for the table and gold skirting which were provided by the club. I wanted the theme of the dessert table to revolve around Donutella, a Tokidoki character, and the decorations impressed me! Too cute for words!

A32A8963

A32A9116-001

This is Donutella. She’s so cute that she deserves a solo shot. LOL. Many of my friends asked if this is Chanelle’s favorite cartoon character. No la not hers but her mummy’s favorite character. For now. Hahaha.

A32A8951-001

Do you know that the secret to Jara Petit’s success lies in the fact that their Cheesecups are hand-baked daily, using only premium cream cheese and fresh ingredients? Quality is definitely not compromised here. Also, there isn’t any preservatives or artificial flavouring in their baked goodies. As Jara Petit’s Cheesecups do not contain gelatine or pork derived ingredients, they are suitable for vegetarians and Muslims as well.

A32A8959

Jara Petit’s Cheesecups are made up of three layers – the wheatmeal biscuit crust, cheesecake and toppings, and the flavours are specially created to suit our local tastebuds. They are now available in as many as TEN awesome flavours – Classic, Blueberry, Lemon, Durian, Matcha, Strawberry, Cookies & Cream, Banoffee, Lavender and Double Chocolate! To avoid messy fingers, small little plastic spoons are provided. How thoughtful!

A32A9081

A32A8952-001

These were all the different flavours of Cheesecups and Cheesecake Jars that were available at Cayla’s full month party, which is basically all ten flavours that Jara Petit currently offers. You don’t have to choose all flavours, can even just stick to durian flavour for instance, if you are a huge durian lover!

A32A8960

Only the Classic Mini Whole Cheesecake is offered for the dessert table package. However, if you are keen to try their cheesecakes, the Floral Wreath Cheesecake and Paddlepop Cheesecake sure look interesting! Apart from round shape, Jara Petit’s cheesecakes come in sweetheart shape too! The mini cheesecakes are rich in texture and light in flavour; definitely one of the best in Singapore!

A32A8964

The Cheesecake Jars were also a hit with both the adults and children. These are deconstructed cheesecakes made of alternating layers of cheese, crushed cookies and assorted toppings such as Milo, Smores, Mocha and Peach. If you are eating it layer by layer, you are doing it all wrong! The different textures of these layers complement each other perfectly, so yes, do-nut be shy and dig in through the layers using the little plastic spoon!

A32A8935

These Cheesecake Jars also make great gifts because they are so convenient to carry around!

A32A8954

Apart from Dessert Table Set Up, Jara Petit also offers Cheesecups and Cheesecake Jars packages for various occasions. For more info, do visit Jara Petit’s website. Jara Petit’s physical shop is located at Dhoby Ghaut Xchange, near exit B of the MRT Station.

How To Ensure You’re Making Enough Money To Fund Your Singapore Lifestyle

How To Ensure You’re Making Enough Money To Fund Your Singapore Lifestyle

Money matters a lot in Singapore. It’s the nation’s close relationship with finance that gives it its reputation and standing in the world, after all. But what about your own finances? How much do you need to be earning to make it here?

The cost of living in Singapore

The first thing to consider is the cost of living here. The Expatistan contains a highly valuable resource to help with this, having accumulated a comprehensive list of typical costs of products and services for those living in Singapore.

The list covers food, housing, entertainment, transport, personal care and clothes. Some key points to consider are:

*you can expect to pay about $2-3,000 rent, depending on the size of your accommodation and the quality of the area you choose to live
*utility bills are roughly $129
*public transport can cost $91 a month
*a typical lunch in the business district costs $12

What you need to earn

So, with those costs in mind, what do you need to earn to be able to afford all of this?

The Heart Truths did an interesting analysis of the amount people need to earn to survive in Singapore. It looked at the typical incomes of those in Singapore and the amount they need to spend on retirement (CPF), food, transport, rent and bills.

It concluded that singles needed to aim for a starting salary of about $2,000 and couples had to try to earn $3,500.

This, of course, depends on how much disposable income you aspire to have or whether you want to get a mansion on Paterson Hill, for example. The blog was also put together a couple of years ago now so you can safely assume that the costs have only gone up in the meantime.

shutterstock_131825981 (2)

The best paid jobs in Singapore

But it’s all well and good knowing how much it costs and what you need to earn to be able to keep up with that pace, but how do you ensure that you can then achieve that?

The best way is to search out the jobs that deliver the best pay in Singapore.

A recent report by Straits Times highlighted the five highest paying sectors and each of these can comfortably support the Singapore lifestyle. The top five were:

*IT – with senior figures earning up to $22,000 a month
*Accounting – in which senior finance officers are paid up to $20,000 a month
*Sales, marketing and advertising – with digital marketers able to command salaries of up to $10,000
*Banking and finance – with a vast range of positions in more than 700 institutions paying wages of up to $17,000
*Health and life science – with Government support this sector is flourishing and able to pay research and development directors up to $15,000

The way forward

It’s important to consider your own circumstances carefully. Use the information out there to consider your lifestyle and the amount you need to earn to afford that. Then you can target the jobs that will deliver the salary you need to make this work.

Consider your strengths and aim for the sectors that are providing the best jobs in Singapore right now. Whether you know your trading terms inside out and fancy flourishing in finance or have the expertise to ride the crest of the wave in the health and life sciences sector once the $19-billion Research, Innovation and Enterprise 2020 Plan kicks in – these are the key industries to deliver the money you need for the life you want.

Get Better Coverage for Pre-Existing Medical Conditions with Income’s New Enhanced PreX Plans!

Advertorial

page

Shortly after Little misschewy was born two years ago, misterchewy and I decided to sign up for our own insurance plans as a family. We didn’t know much about insurance because it was all well taken care of by our parents until my good friend, who was our financial planner back then, walked through the basics with us and also addressed all our queries. One of the important things which we learned was that, if you have existing ailments such as high blood pressure, asthma, diabetes, etc, it is considered a pre-existing medical condition and is typically excluded in most insurance policies. In simple layman terms, it means that should one fall ill and if this illness is caused by a pre-existing medical condition, one’s medical expenses will not be covered by his or her insurance provider. As avid travellers, we got to know that this non-coverage of pre-existing medical conditions applies to Travel Insurance as well. Good news is that Income is the ONLY insurer in Singapore to offer Travel Insurance policies that protect customers like me against pre-existing medical conditions!

Coverage

The above gives us an overview as to what is being covered by Income’s Enhanced PreX plans. On top of that, you can still be covered for all other benefits not relating to pre-existing medical conditions, such as travel inconveniences, personal accident and medical expenses! Enhanced PreX plans also offer coverage for all ages and this includes coverage for children suffering from medical conditions such as asthma, to adults with hypertension and even elderly diagnosed with diabetes. It really is a plan worth considering and getting, especially when travelling overseas with children and the elderly. For bigger families like a few of our friends who have three or more children, it does not necessarily mean that you have to spend more on Travel Insurance. Opt for Family cover for greater savings as it will cover your families with unlimited number of children insured.

Enhance Coverage

This year, Income has launched new Enhanced PreX plans that comes with increased coverage to better protect you! Currently the good news is, in addition to the original Enhanced PreX Basic plan, you can now expect better coverage from the Enhanced PreX Superior plan and Enhanced PreX Prestige plan! Opt for these two plans to enjoy some coverage for trip cancellation, postponing of trip, shortening of trip and trip disruption. There is also coverage for overseas hospital allowances and compassionate visit under these two new plans.

For your next overseas trip, be covered with an Enhanced PreX plan so that you can travel with a peace of mind. Don’t limit your coverage even with pre-existing medical conditions! Sign up now via www.income.com.sg/insurance/travel-insurance!

Baby Cayla’s Birth Story – 9 August 2016

P8120006

Chewy Junior #2 is finally here! Our second princess was born on 9 August 2016, which makes her a National Day baby. Just like her elder sister, Baby Cayla was also delivered on a CHEWSDAY (Tuesday lol) and is a 40w5d baby. Amazing, isn’t it? Many people told me that I might deliver earlier since this is my second child. On the contrary, I worked through 40 weeks and 3 days of pregnancy. My last day of work was on 5 August, Friday, and I was joking to my colleagues that I hope the situation would be exactly the same as two years ago. Last day of work on Friday, enjoy Saturday and Sunday, rest at home on Monday, and deliver on Tuesday. Only difference is that it would be extra special because of National Day. My wish came true!

A32A8741

When I was resting at home on Monday, I was wondering if there is even a possibility of delivering the next day because I didn’t feel anything at all. Knowing that lying down all day wouldn’t help, I decided to exercise as a natural way of inducing labour. I went to wash toilet! LOL. But not very hardcore kind la. Still no feeling. When the hubs came home from work, I told him, “Aiya until now no feeling leh. So sad. Confirm no chance to be the first National Day baby liao”. Hahaha XD Machiam I super patriotic kind.

A32A8744

The hubs went to bed early but I watched Korean drama until 3am. Then I went to sleep. At around 4am, I felt warm water gush out from you-know-where and I went O_O !!! I didn’t expect my water bag to burst at home because for my first pregnancy, my gynae burst my water bag for me. Initially, I was shocked, and then “National Day baby, here I come!” Hahaha siao I know. I woke the hubs up, “Eh! Zhihao! My water bag burst leh!” He jumped out of bed. I was quite calm on the other hand. Told him to switch on the water heater for me because I want to take a shower and wash my hair first! I think I took too long because he was waiting outside the bathroom and told me not to shower for too long. I even blow dried my hair before we made our way to Mount Elizabeth Hospital. Reached at around 5.30am and went straight to the Admissions counter. Upon knowing that my water bag had burst, the staff told me to sit on the wheelchair, much to my bewilderment. “NO NO I don’t need a wheelchair..!” But of course, I was being wheeled to the delivery ward after the staff said, “Mam, because your water bag has burst. Don’t worry, there’s nobody around at this hour to see you in a wheelchair.”

A32A8750

Got changed and a couple of nurses prepped me up. Felt a bit of contractions coming in and the intensity grew a little as time passed. Dr Chia Yee Tien, my gynae since my first pregnancy, arrived close to 9am and carried out the vaginal examination. Shall spare you the details but I knew something was amiss from the tone of Dr Chia’s voice as she was speaking to the nurses. Dr Chia said my water bag did not burst fully and instead of baby’s head, she felt baby’s fingers instead. This meant that baby was in a transverse-lie position, which is the most dangerous position before delivery. Dr Chia tried to turn the baby but baby was too high up. I was already panicking and screaming in pain. Both Dr Chia and another nurse pressed hard on my belly, trying to shift baby’s position but in the end, if I’m not wrong, the umbilical cord kinda blocked the delivery pathway too. Ok to cut the long story short, I had to be wheeled into the operating theatre for an emergency caesarian section. There was quite a bit of shouting going on and I nearly broke down. To make matters worse, the hubs wasn’t around because he had stepped out to buy some drinks. I reached out for my iPhone underneath the pillow and sobbed, “Where are you? I’m going for emergency caesarian now..!” I was so traumatised by the sudden turn of events that I started to shake uncontrollably. An anaesthetist arrived and he assured me that I will be alright. I was given anaesthesia to inhale and then I went out like a light.

A32A8757

When I regained my consciousness, my eyelids were very heavy and I had difficulty opening my eyes. I could only hear what was going on around me and I knew I was being wheeled somewhere. A male and a female, presumably nurses, carried and shoved me onto another bed. I cried out in pain because the area where I was operated upon really hurt! I was groggy and I remembered being super whiny about the pain. I could hear the hubs talking to me and holding my hands but I couldn’t really open my eyes for a while.. I felt cold and sleepy. After the anaesthesia wore off, the hubs showed me a couple of photos he took of Cayla when she was out of the OT.

A32A8760

Oh my! Cayla looks so much like her jiejie at birth! Hahaha. I pointed to the inhaler thingy and the hubs explained that Cayla was given some oxygen.

A32A8763

Cayla was 3.38kg and 52cm at birth. Very slightly bigger than her jiejie by 0.02kg and 1cm! Can’t believe they are so similar already!

IMG_7561

Glad we bought the Singapore flag and managed to put it to good use! Never waste our 90 cents lol. And luckily I didn’t forget to bring this milestone card from Toddley Thoughts along!

IMG_7716

Chanelle jiejie came to visit!

A32A8786

When we asked Chanelle if she wanted to carry meimei, her eyes lit up and her hands were outstretched, ready to carry Cayla.

A32A8787

A big sisterly hug.

A32A8788

I was really touched when I saw how lovingly jiejie was gazing at meimei.

A32A8795

Another big hug because I love you so much!

A32A8798

Well, it looks as though jiejie is ready to kick the arse of those who bully meimei. Haha let’s hope there’s no need for that.

Rakuichi Japanese Restaurant at Dempsey Hill

IMG_6967

There is a possibility that I might go into labour on my birthday, so my in-laws and family celebrated my birthday in advance over the weekend. I had dinner with my family at Raikuichi Japanese Restaurant at Dempsey Hill on Sunday and decided to take some photos to share here because their menu is pretty extensive. I have dined at Rakuichi on a number of occasions, for lunch and dinner but mostly at the Far East Shopping Centre restaurant. I usually order their lunch or dinner sets.

P7248666

Tuna salad appetizer.

P7248668

We ordered four different dinner sets except for my mum who doesnt take raw food, and the sashimi was placed together and served to us for sharing. There were only two types of raw fish.

P7248674

P7248688

Sumiyaki Moriawase ($32)

P7248677

Rainbow Sashimi set ($40.60)

P7248682

Rakuichi Bento set ($48.60)

P7248690

P7248692

Gindara Teriyaki set ($40.60)

IMG_6985

Didn’t take any photos of my brother’s mini course as the dishes were not served together and I was too busy eating already. Lol. As usual, I’m pretty satisfied with the Japanese food standard at Rakuichi. Have yet to visit their two other branches at Oasia Hotel and GreenWich V. Rainbow cake from parents while the fruits and ice cream platter was on the house.

When we were looking for a parking lot, I knew I just had to take an OOTD with this Ben & Jerry’s ice cream van to match my Rainbow Printed Nursing Dress from Jump Eat Cry! I’m starting to foresee that I will be getting the most mileage out of this dress because I’m so in love with its bright colors and bold prints! Brasserie Les Saveurs Afternoon Tea at St Regis Singapore

A32A8569

Ticked another afternoon tea place off my list! We met up with Mag to give her a belated birthday celebration and I suggested Brasserie Les Saveurs at St Regis Singapore since she chose afternoon tea over lunch. There was a small hiccup before we were whisked off to our table because there was no record of my email reservation but luckily, I didn’t delete the confirmation email so at least got proof la.

A32A8586

The interior of the restaurant feels a little chichi, but then again, it’s a French restaurant right? Haha. Perfect place for afternoon tea with the girl friends! Afternoon tea is served from 3pm to 5pm from Mondays to Saturdays, and 4pm to 6pm on Sundays.

A32A8580

While waiting for our afternoon tea tiers to be served to our tables, most of us got up to check out the buffet items near the entrance. This side of the buffet featured items such as scones, smoked salmon, pork terrine, pies, etc.

A32A8554

Classic scones, chocolate chip scones, orange scones, cranberry scones and pesto scones. So many types!

A32A8533

From the quintessential three-tiered silver stand, we nibbled on classic finger sandwiches from the bottom tier, savoury treats from the middle tier and a variety of sweet delights from the top tier. It was a little disappointing that we were not allowed to try out different teas and also, our tea was refilled with hot water only. I had the Grand Wedding Tea, which is black tea blended with sunflowers and breathtaking exotic fruits.

A32A8551

Smoked salmon, egg & mayonnaise and tomato, cucumber & cream cheese sandwiches. Good if you need to load up on carbs, but nothing to shout about really.

A32A8550

Items from the middle tier were more interesting. The Duck Foie Gras ‘Profiteroles’ tasted pretty subtle, so some people might like it. I also enjoyed the Asparagus and Smoked Salmon Quiche.

A32A8576

For obvious reasons, the Prawn, Lobster & Tarragon Cup Pie had to be served separately. We thought it might be French onion soup, given this is a French restaurant and all. So Mag asked the server what soup was this and the reply was a curt one, “This is not soup. This is a pie.”

A32A8578

Ok I know it’s a pie but tell me this isn’t soup as well? The soup was pretty rich tasting and if only we could go for seconds!

A32A8536

Desserts! My favourite of the lot was the Creme Caramel with Orange Compote. The other sweet delights were Raspberry Tarts, Classic Mocha Eclairs, and Homemade Chocolate Praline.

A32A8558

A32A8566

A32A8583

The other side of the buffet had a nice spread of desserts consisting mainly of cakes, pastries and a chocolate fondue fountain.

The Manhattan Fish Market Launches its Weekend Breakfast Menu

Invited Tasting

A32A8416

One of the greatest joys in life is to be able to enjoy a leisurely breakfast with family members and loved ones over the weekend. The Chewys had the opportunity to try out The Manhattan Fish Market’s newly launched first-ever weekend breakfast menu a couple of weeks ago. Fantastic food at affordable prices! Jump start your day with a cup of Marshmallow Cocoa ($4.50) Think rich, comforting hot chocolate topped with marshmallows lightly flamed before your eyes!

A32A8411

If you don’t fancy the sweet stuff, I urge you to try the Citrus Mint ($5.50). What could go wrong with a glass of refreshing smoothie made with fresh mint leaves and freshly squeezed lemon juice?

A32A8397

Little misschewy had the Nutella & Banana French Toast ($4.95) from the kids’ menu. I’m sure most kids have a sweet tooth, and Little misschewy was no exception! Simple, but so good!

A32A8421

If you like smoked salmon, the Salmon N’ Mushroom Sandwich ($8.95) might just work for you! Smoked salmon with sauteed mushrooms and a slice of cheese between oregano buns, complete with a poached egg in a crunchy tortilla bowl. Yummehhhhh!

A32A8417

We also had the Eggs Benedict Sharing Platter ($17.95) which consists of poached eggs, crispy turkey bacon with melted cheddar cheese, fluffy pancakes drizzled with maple syrup, hashbrown and snail sausage. It is really THE sharing platter for the whole family because there is something for everyone. While the hubs and I thought that the poached eggs and snail sausage were pretty good, Little misschewy kept asking for more hashbrown. A family that eats together stays together, so gather all your family members at The Manhattan Fish Market for breakfast next weekend! 😉

QV Skincare Body, Face & Baby Range Giveaway!

Advertorial

A32A8223

There are so many skincare products out there in the market and I’m happy to say that after much trial and error, I have finally found one particular brand that works well for me! I vividly remember that many years ago, before our year-end vacation to Harbin in China, my mum packed a tube of QV Cream along and it proved to be a lifesaver for our severely dry and itchy skin due to the cold, harsh weather! I didn’t think much about QV Skincare products until a few months back, when the condition of my skin took a turn for the worse and I believe those pregnancy hormones are responsible for it.

A32A8371

And there I was, feeling seriously overwhelmed by the various types of skincare products at the drugstore when a familiar looking brand managed to catch my eye. I was amazed by the huge range of products offered by QV, a gentle soap-free cleansing and moisturising range for every part of the body, sealing in moisture to ensure your skin feels its best all day. Isn’t it wonderful that there is a QV product specially formulated to cleanse or moisturise different severities of dry or sensitive skin?

A32A8386

Starting with QV Gentle Wash, it is a soap-free, non-drying body cleanser that maintains the skin’s hydration during cleansing to ensure the skin is left feeling soft and clean. The unique formulation of QV Gentle Wash is non-comedogenic so it will not block pores. It is pH balanced, and free from colour, lanolin, fragrance and propylene glycol. Not only is QV Gentle Wash suitable for all skin types, it can also be used by those who suffer from conditions such as eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis. It is an ideal cleanser for those with dry skin and is also suitable for acne prone skin, infants and the elderly.

A32A8375

This QV Cream is what I had mentioned earlier, that even in extremely cold and harsh weather conditions, our skins were effectively moisturised. QV Cream is a highly concentrated moisturising cream that helps prevent and relieve dry skin. Besides moisturising the skin, providing much needed re-hydration, QV Cream also helps seal in the skin’s own natural moisture by acting as a protective barrier. QV Cream is excellent for very dry areas of the skin such as the elbows, knees and hands. Rest assured that it will leave your skin feeling nourished and protected!

QV Face

Apart from the two QV body products mentioned, there is also a QV Face range! After removing my makeup, I cleanse my face with QV Face Gentle Cleanser. I like that it is fragrance-free and my skin does not feel tight after washing; a good sign that my skin has not been stripped of its natural oils! I follow up with QV Face Moisturising Day Cream in the morning and QV Face Nurturing Night Cream before I go to bed. I feel that both QV Face creams are quite thick, so a little does the trick! It is very important for me to lather on some moisturising cream on my face because of the air-conditioned environment that I’m exposed to on almost a daily basis. On days when my skin feels extra sensitive, I reach out for the QV Face Rescue Gel. I like its light and watery consistency, which refreshes, cools and tones the skin, while maintaining the skin’s hydration.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that QV has also launched a QV Baby range! Children’s skin, especially babies’ and toddlers’, are extra sensitive and are more prone to developing skin problems. QV Baby range is free from soap and fragrance, and is specially formulated for baby’s delicate skin. It has also been dermatologically tested and is recommended by paediatricians. As part of baby’s everyday skincare routine, the QV Baby range works to gently cleanse, moisturise, protect and help restore suppleness and a healthy glow to the skin. While suitable to use as part of baby’s everyday skincare, the QV Baby range is also appropriate to use on babies suffering from eczema, dermatitis and other common baby skin issues.

Little misschewy’s skin was quite dry and flaky, probably due to the chlorine sensitivity when we take her out for her weekly swim. However, I find that the QV Baby Gentle Wash, QV Baby Bath Oil and QV Baby Moisturising Cream really help to relieve her skin’s dryness by hydrating and restoring its natural moisture. Now, her skin feels soft, smooth and supple again! I’m also quite generous with the QV Baby Barrier Cream as I find that it is highly effective in preventing nappy rash.

QV products are stocked at pharmacies. For more information on QV products, check out www.egopharm.com
