Ruins of St. Paul's

The Chewys love travelling and although I’m currently in my third trimester of pregnancy, we are already in wanderlust mode and dreaming about our next adventure after my confinement ends! I guess this time, we shall not be overly ambitious as we would like to travel with both children, so our ideal travel destination should be not too far from home, and somewhere which we have not visited together before! Many of us have been to Hong Kong, but what about Macao? Just an hour’s ferry ride from Hong Kong, Macao is a world-class destination that leaves people enchanted and fascinated with iconic cultural sights, thrilling adventures, entertaining performances, a myriad of city festivals and is also a foodie paradise, guaranteeing a wide selection of local snacks and delicacies!

A-Ma Temple

Here’s sharing my 3D2N itinerary which I have come up with!

DAY ONE MORNING:

Whenever we visit an Asian country, we make it a point to visit at least one of the temples there. A-Ma Temple in Macao is dedicated to A-Ma, also known as Mazu, the Goddess of seafarers and fishermen. According to legend, A-Ma had the ability to prophesize in her mortal life and also protect traders and fishermen from shipwreck with mythic power in her afterlife. Thus, A-Ma Temple was built by the locals to worship her. Homage is paid to this most popular deity of Macao during A-Ma festival, which takes place on the 23rd day of the 3rd month in the lunar calendar each year.

Coloane Pier

Over at Coloane Village, visitors get to enjoy the tranquility of village life and enjoy local delicacies. Make a stop at Coloane Pier which was rebuilt in 1873 and had been a crucial public ferry terminal between Coloane, Taipa and Macao Peninsular ever since. Regular ferry service in the olden days brought passengers from Macao and Taipa to Coloane.

1.Portuguese Egg Tart

At Coloane Village, don’t miss out on tasting the authentic and famous Portuguese Egg Tarts from Lord Stow Bakery! There are also other village cafes nearby which are ideal places for a leisurely afternoon tea while enjoying the tranquility of village life.

11.African Chicken

DAY ONE AFTERNOON:

There are many different kinds of cuisines you can find in Macao but nothing beats Portuguese and Macanese cuisine of course! We urge you to try African chicken, one of Macao’s best loved dish. It is basically chicken covered in peanut, tomato and chilli sauce, served with bread or potatoes. You can either head to Restaurante Litoral or Henri’s Gallery for a mouthwatering serving of African chicken!

Pier 16 Macao 3D World_1

Once in awhile, I think it is a good idea to head indoors in the afternoon to cool off! Pier 16 Macao 3D World is a fun and interesting indoor attraction at Sofitel Macao at Ponte 16, which is the first large scale 3D museum in Macao with over 100 photography points in 7 thematic zones, including MJ in 3D, 3D Jurassic World, 3D Macao Journey, Touch of French, Romantic Story, Chinese culture and 3D Interactive Experience Zone. If you are one who enjoys being in front of the camera, Pier 16 Macao 3D World is a must-visit as it offers visitors a chance to pose for interesting photos with the various exhibits and 3D paintings!

Wynn Macau_Performance Lake

Children will definitely be captivated by the Performance Lake, where lofty plumes of water and fire shimmer and dance through the air to classical and popular music, as well as Broadway show tunes. Do you know that the Lake houses over 200 water nozzles and shooters and holds 800,000 gallons of water in order to present this delightful illumination of water, light, color and fire? Despite all that, this entertaining show is absolutely free!

The House of Magic_1

DAY ONE EVENING:

The House of Magic, a one-of-a-kind multi-theatre attraction housing magic acts performed by leading magicians from around the world, – is yet another entertaining show in Macao that will appeal to the masses. Featuring 4 live magicians in a three-theatre magic complex, it amazes visitors with an array of mind-bending shows offering guests an incredible live magical experience showcasing the world’s greatest magicians. What’s more? You will also find The House of Magic Boutique, a Victorian-themed magic shop where visitors can take home a few simple-to-do tricks to delight their families and friends!

Broadway Macau

We love visiting food streets and for dinner, we reckon Broadway Macao is one of the unique dining spots in Macao that is truly worth visiting! Broadway Macao brings visitors back to the hustle and bustle of traditional Macao street markets, featuring authentic local cuisines with a vast array of over 40 local Macao and “first-to-Macao” popular Asian food brands, and even Michelin-star restaurants, festive street performances and unique Macao souvenir shops.

Lou Lim Ieoc Garden_1

DAY TWO MORNING:

Begin the day with a leisurely stroll at Lou Lim Ieoc Garden, built by a wealthy 19th century Chinese merchant and subsequently inherited by his son. Enclosed by a high wall, it is a miniaturized landscape with narrow paths winding through groves of bamboo and flowering bushes, under moulded concrete “mountains” to a large pond filled with golden carp and lotus flowers. It is a lovely place for photo opportunities, as well as somewhere for children to roam about freely!

Galaxy Hotel _Fortune Diamonds_1

DAY TWO AFTERNOON:

Stop by Galaxy Macao, where the 3-metre tall Fortune Diamond is located in the lobby of the hotel. Rising from behind a waterfall and slowly sinking into a roulette-design fountain, the Fortune Diamond symbolizes abounding prosperity and good fortune.

Taipa Food Street

In the afternoon, head over to Rua do Cunha (Taipa Food Street) in Taipa Village where plenty of snacking opportunities await! It is the ultimate place if you want to find local snacks and delicacies such as almond cakes, egg rolls, peanut candies, roasted sliced meat and many other specialties.

Parade through Latin City, Macao

If you are planning to visit Macao during the December school holidays, watch out for the cultural event, “Parade through Macao, Latin City”. Created in 2011, the Parade is held to mark the anniversary of Macao’s Handover to China. Highlighting Macao’s unique cultural features and the City’s multicultural atmosphere, the Parade culminates in a grand joint performance in which the artists present dazzlingly colourful performances, bringing the celebration of this joyous occasion to a vivid climax.

The House of Dancing Water_3

DAY TWO EVENING:

Since we are planning to travel with children, I have also included The House of Dancing Water in our itinerary. Inspired by the Chinese culture, the story takes the audience through 7 emotions – Joy, Anger, Sorrow, Fear, Love, Hate and Desire. At the world’s largest and most spectacular water-based show, be enthralled by water diving stunts, motorbikes acrobatic stunts, aerial acrobatics and more! People of all ages will definitely enjoy this!

Macao Tower 360 cafe

Make your last night in Macao a memorable one by having dinner at The Macao Tower 360° café, the highest and only 360° revolving restaurant enables visitors to enjoy feast of international delicacies along with stunning and breath-taking views of Macao cityscape. This restaurant rotates fully every one-and-a-half hour allowing visitors to watch as the lights of Macao come to life and the beautiful sunset scenery, a truly unique and memorable experience.

Sheraton Towers Singapore Staycation 2016

A32A8180

We booked a two-night stay with Sheraton Towers Singapore on a whim recently because I’m due in about a month! Thought we should enjoy as much as we can now before the new baby arrives! Also, SPG is having a Triple Up promotion till end July for Sheraton properties so it was something we didn’t wanna miss! Our first time staying at Sheraton was last Valentine’s Day, and I had blogged about it briefly here.

A32A8165

Since I had my camera with me, I took a few photos of our room. I think it’s still the same as last year, but we got a room on a much higher floor this time. Very simple but spacious and comfortable room.

A32A8170

A32A8191

If I’m not wrong, the Handy smartphone is new. Didn’t see this last year. It is a complimentary smartphone service for guests to enjoy unlimited 3G internet and local calls. How awesome is that, especially for overseas guests!

A32A8172

A32A8173

A32A8238

I’m not sure who what where when why and how BUT we were so surprised when someone sent up a platter of desserts and a framed photograph taken during our Japan holiday. Coincidentally, it’s the photo that I use for my laptop’s wallpaper!

A32A8350

I was wearing the Lace Overlay Dress from Jump Eat Cry. The color and design are just so unique!

A32A8450

We wanted to enjoy one day of peace and quiet, so Little misschewy joined us only on the second day. LOL. After brunch and looking at some rabbits in the East, we basically nua-ed the whole day in our room and ordered food via Deliveroo.

A32A8452

So engrossed in the cartoon!

A32A8455

It will be a party of four for our next staycation! 😀

Deliveroo: Get $22 Off Your First Order With Visa!

Advertorial

Deliveroo 1

*Update: The VISAROO promo code is no longer valid*

With the emergence of food delivery services in Singapore, consumers are now spoilt for choice. Deliveroo is one that stands out from the rest and is becoming increasingly popular due to many reasons. One of which is Deliveroo’s flexibility, offering consumers the option of placing their orders either via its website, or via its mobile app. You can order your meals anywhere, anytime, even on the go! It’s really awesome because you can even place your orders while making your way home from work!

Deliveroo 2

More importantly, Deliveroo brings meals from a wide selection of independent and high-quality chain restaurants right to customers’ homes or offices, in an average time of 32 minutes. We all know how crucial fast delivery is, especially when we are starving! A delivery time of 32 minutes is pretty impressive, not forgetting tolerable for the stomach! Also, delivery fee is a flat rate of just $3! Did you know? The average delivery time for Singapore is only 29 minutes! Talk about speed!

Deliveroo best restaurants

Have you ever had a disappointing experience where you cannot find your favourite restaurant listed anywhere in a food delivery service portal? With Deliveroo, be disappointed no more! High quality restaurants are now able to offer delivery to their customers with the use of Deliveroo’s proprietary technology and logistics platform. This allows them to harness the technology solution to automate the process and enable customers to track the progress of their order. The riders are employed by Deliveroo, they are not outsourced, and hence the service is in constant control and can ensure the highest standard in delivery. Additionally, Deliveroo has had more than 1400 restaurants join the family in Singapore, including Cedele, Chopsuey Cafe, Harry’s, Halia at Raffles Place, Kinki Restaurant, Meat Liquor, Table by Rang Mahal, Potato Head Folk, PS. Cafe, Wine Connection, and Paradise Group of restaurants.

Deliveroo 3

When misterchewy and I accompanied Little misschewy in Mount Alvernia during her hospitalisation recently, we badly wanted to order some REAL food for ourselves without having to step out of the ward, and Deliveroo immediately came to mind. I had my laptop with me so we typed in Deliveroo’s website and Mount Alvernia’s postal code. We were impressed that as many as 47 restaurants were able to deliver ASAP and most, if not all, claimed to be able to deliver within 35 minutes!

Deliveroo 4

The hubs was lamenting that he needed his burgers and fries fix so The Burger Bar by Fat Boys it was! If you don’t need your food to be delivered immediately, you can amend the delivery timing.

Deliveroo 5

Here’s what we ordered! Our total bill for two burgers, fries and two drinks came to $40.50 inclusive of delivery fees.

P6108047

Do you know that Deliveroo ONLY accepts card payments? This is a great move as it does away with the need to “count or touch” cash which saves time, is more hygienic, and more importantly, more secure as there will be fewer discrepancies.

P6118057

Remember our total bill came up to $40.50 inclusive of delivery? Guess what? In the end, we paid only $18.50 for this feast! This is a really good deal considering that two burgers already cost $20! We got so much more delivered to us and it’s so convenient too! Cashless payment is the way to go!

P6118064-001

Thanks to an exclusive partnership between Visa and Deliveroo, Visa cardholders receive $22 off their first order on Deliveroo with a minimum spending of $25 in a single order, from now till 31 December 2016!

Some things to take note of:

• Offer is only valid for eligible Visa cardholder’s first order on Deliveroo app or deliveroo.com.sg using the promotion code VISAROO at checkout.
• Delivery fee applies.
• Offer cannot be combined with other offers or promotions.
• Specific meals subject to availability.

P6118055

Wait no further and start ordering your meals via Deliveroo today! Don’t forget to use your Visa credit or debit card and apply the promo code VISAROO at checkout! Good things must share, so go ahead and tell all your friends about it!

Saleduck Food Blogger Award 2016

Blogger - Food

Hello chewys! I have been nominated for the Saleduck Food Blogger Award 2016! Honestly, I have never liked joining such voting contests because it’s so tiring having to get people to vote, so I will ask all of you for this favour just this time and I promise not to bug you guys anymore!

10 Scotts @ Grand Hyatt Singapore Afternoon Tea

P6188154

The hubs and I recently went on a triple date afternoon tea session with our fellow foodie friends at 10 SCOTTS, located at the lobby level of Grand Hyatt Singapore. Phoebe, Elaine and Daniel were the first few people we befriended back when I started blogging about food in 2010! Omg we go a long way back and all of us are happily married now. 2016 seems to be the year of afternoon teas for me! Anyway, I’m gonna eat as much as I can before I pop really soon! Wheeee! 😀

P6188126

The first time I had afternoon tea at 10 SCOTTS was sometime around the end of 2014 and that was with a group of mummies from my EDD group, as well as some of their babies. It’s quite an ideal place for babies and young children even though the number of baby chairs might be limited, there are low couch seats which are pretty comfortable and you can simply have your little one seated next to you.

P6188133-001

Let me just say that I highly recommend 10 SCOTTS’ afternoon tea because of the fact that the food items are REPLENISHABLE and they are served on two-tiered stands, which make everything seem so much more aesthetically pleasing. While the coffee and tea are refilled with hot water upon request, you are not obliged to stick to the same beverage throughout your afternoon tea session.

P6188128

There is a double-seating policy at 10 SCOTTS which does not only apply to weekends but weekdays as well. Also, afternoon tea is slightly pricier on weekends.

P6188124

Besides the replenishable items from the two-tiered stand, there is also a buffet line of cold cuts, main course and desserts! Aren’t you excited already?! The menu changes on a weekly rotational basis, so you will always have the chance to try something different on your subsequent visits.

P6188123

Cold cuts, cheese and bread.

P6188120

A humble assortment of Sushi

P6188127

Hot savoury live station featuring one type of main course.

P6188135-001

During our visit, it was Peppered beef fillet with brandy and green peppercorn sauce gravy. Tiger prawns and chicken fillet are offered on other weeks.

P6188109

P6188152

The freshly baked Raisin scones from the buffet line were warm and crumbly, but only if they were more buttery! Besides clotted cream and raspberry jam, 10 SCOTTS also serve their scones with kaya jam!

P6188110-001

P6188141

Smoked salmon wrap with avocado, cream cheese and dill.

P6188138

Borsch (cold beetroot soup) with sour cream foam.

P6188137

Curry fish balls.

P6188139

Mustard leaf rolls with rice noodle, tofu and laksa leaf.

P6188143

Curry puffs.

P6188157-001

Crab cakes with remoulade sauce. These were da bomb and we each had quite a few servings. I think misterchewy ate like four crab cakes.

P6188118

Berries crumbles.

P6188116

Caramel choux buns.

P6188119

Cassis yoghurt mousse in shooter glass.

Bio-essence’s New Face Lifting Cream Sensitive Skin

Advertorial

A32A8035

Hello chewy friends! I’m excited about sharing one of my latest favourite beauty products with everyone today! Previously, I blogged about Bio-essence’s Extra Strength Face Lifting Cream, which is the fastest solution to achieving an extra lifted and extra V face. I have been a long time fan of Bio-essence’s face lifting creams when I started off years ago using their regular face lifting creams. I’m sure Bio-essence needs no introduction but for the benefit of those who don’t know much about the brand, let me tell you that Bio-essence’s face lifting cream is its best selling product and also Singapore’s Number One selling face lifting cream! I really like Bio-essence because instead of being complacent with its success and achievements, new and improved products are constantly produced to address the needs of women who want a V shaped face. There is always something to look forward to from Bio-essence!

A32A8019

Now that I’m 8 months pregnant, I have gained a considerable amount of weight (GASP!) and it’s obviously showing on my face. Boohoo! Apart from that, those pregnancy hormones are totally to blame for my dry and sensitive skin, which is sadly at the mercy of breakouts. I’m really glad that Bio-essence has launched the New Face Lifting Cream Sensitive Skin this year! It is the latest addition to Bio-essence’s portfolio of face lifting creams, joining the other two variants under the Royal Jelly & ATP range. With this new Face Lifting Cream Sensitive Skin, ladies (and gentlemen) with sensitive skin can now achieve their desired V shaped face too! I must also add that it is every pregnant woman’s godsend ! I’m experiencing a bit of facial swelling in the mornings due to water retention in the third trimester and applying Bio-essence’s face lifting cream really helps to reduce the nasty swelling! So glad that I don’t have to spend the rest of my pregnancy looking like a chubby chipmunk, especially when it’s impossible for me to go on a diet or do vigorous exercises at this stage!

A32A8021

I have been using Bio-essence’s New Face Lifting Cream Sensitive Skin for a couple of weeks and my face is noticeably less round now. If not for my weight gain of more than 10kg (and counting), I’m very confident that applying the Face Lifting Cream Sensitive Skin religiously would give me a much more defined V face. A huge noticeable difference in Bio-essence’s New Face Lifting Cream Sensitive Skin compared to the other variants which I have used before, is its texture which is slightly on the watery side, glides onto the skin, and is very easily absorbed, without leaving behind any residue or stickiness. This is the hypoallergenic formula that we are talking about, which helps to reduce double chin by firming sagging skin, and at the same time helps to soothe and calm sensitive skin with its light weight texture. It also acts like a moisturizer, leaving skin smooth and soft.

A32A8023

In order to achieve optimal results with Bio-essence’s New Face Lifting Cream Sensitive Skin, apply in an upward lifting motion using gentle strokes with both hands until all the cream is absorbed. You may end the 10-minute ritual by massaging and patting your face. Results are almost instantaneous ! Don’t believe? Measure your facial contour with the ruler provided in the packaging, apply the cream, and measure again! You will be amazed!

A32A8008

If you have always wanted to try Bio-essence’s face lifting cream, wait no more! With three types of face lifting creams, there is something for everyone. People with sensitive skin deserve a beautiful V shaped face too! The hypoallergenic formula in Bio-essence’s New Face Lifting Cream Sensitive Skin is safe to use because it has been created with the needs of people with sensitive skin in mind. Retailing at $49.90 a jar, Bio-essence’s New Face Lifting Cream Sensitive Skin is available at Watsons, Guardian and NTUC Fairprice. Visit Bio-essence’s website and ‘Like’ Bio-essence’s Facebook page to stay updated on its latest products!

Seafood & Champagne Afternoon Tea at The Westin

P6107935

Amidst all the craziness over the past two weeks when Little misschewy was hospitalised, misterchewy and I managed to spend some well-deserved couple time relaxing over afternoon tea after an appointment with our gynae. After all, we had cancelled some of our plans but a pregnant mother still has to carry on eating for two! LOL.

P6107936

Taking advantage of the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) Twice as Nice promotion (which ended on 15 June), where SPG members get to earn double Starpoints whenever they dine with SPG outside of a stay, it was my perfect excuse to experience having afternoon tea on the 32nd level of The Westin, at Lobby Lounge.

P6107933

The husband and I were at The Westin on a Friday and afternoon tea is served from 2.30pm to 5pm on weekdays. There are two seatings for afternoon tea on weekends. We reached slightly early, so we took some photos around the area.

P6107925

For our afternoon tea date, I specially chose this Sequin Flare Dress from Jump Eat Cry, which is now one of my top favourites in my wardrobe! I seldom wear white and was secretly surprised when the husband complimented that white looks good on me 😀 Jump Eat Cry is currently having a GSS Mega Sale till end June, with selected pieces going for up to 50% off! Quote ‘MISSUSCHEWY15‘ to enjoy additional 15% discount! Super good deal! I’m so in love with their maternity wear because it really flatters the bump! Just an update that I’m past 30 weeks now! Kinda lost count if I’m 31 or 32 weeks! Or is it 33?! LOL.

P6107937

We strolled in at 2.30pm and chose one of the seats by the window. Actually, majority of the seats were next to the window so it wouldn’t be difficult to snag one especially on a weekday. Not sure if I can say the same for weekends! Anyway, we were told that food will only be served around 2.45pm which wasn’t really an issue for us since afternoon tea is supposed to be a slow and leisurely affair. Haha.

P6107938

Instead of a nice full view of the South China Sea and the Marina Bay, construction works also came into the picture. Pun intended. Not exactly the most amazing view, but nevermind.

P6107973

Lobby Lounge at The Westin serves the most indulgent and luxurious afternoon tea in Singapore! How does having lobsters, oysters and crab legs with a glass of bubbly sound? That’s The Westin’s Seafood and Champagne Afternoon Tea for you! We found ourselves rubbing our hands with glee when the first course, which comprised of Lobster Thermidor and Fresh Oysters, was served.

P6107971

Cooked lobster in creamy white wine sauce, topped with Parmesan cheese and broiled till golden brown, this spells perfection! There were three kinds of dipping to go with your lobster – champagne dressing, lychee bourbon and lime, and shallot vinaigrette. All three were equally good, but eating the lobster on its own works fine too! There were fresh oysters as well but they weren’t exactly very meaty.

P6107962

The second course was served on a three-tier stand. Items from the bottom two tiers are actually the same as the portions are meant for two.

P6107950-001

Lovely sight, isn’t it!

P6107966

Really like the presentation of the afternoon tea items!

P6107952

On the top tier, we have the Blini Alaska crab salad topped with salmon roe, garnished with chunks of grapefruits, pomelo and grapefruits jelly. It was small enough that we could pop the entire thing into our mouths. Very crunchy and somehow, the taste reminded us of McD’s Fillet-o-Fish. LOL.

P6107955

There were more fried items from the bottom tiers. We started with the Alaska crab tempura with avocado, apple, pine nuts and tuna tartar, followed by the Lobster cake with tomato and avocado salsa. The taste wasn’t exceptional but I like how avocado was incorporated here. Seared butter oyster with horseradish cream and grilled lemon was quite good but I still prefer my oysters raw. Spicy scallop salad with apple and pear walnut salad was a little over done and not too memorable. The husband liked the Chard salmon sushi which had an interesting presentation where we got to inject soy sauce into the sushi.

P6107985

After all the savoury items, we were happy to be greeted by this plate of desserts of carrot cake, strawberry lemon tartlet, salted caramel chocolate finger, green tea cheese cake, raspberries lime profiteroles and assorted chocolate crunch! It’s so hard for me to pick a favourite because I have a sweet tooth but misterchewy claimed that the salted caramel chocolate finger was the best of the lot. If I really had to choose, it would be either the strawberry lemon tartlet or raspberries lime profiteroles.

P6107969

We really enjoyed The Westin’s jazzed-up interpretation of a leisurely afternoon tea. It was definitely a first for us, indulging in seafood and champagne, and ending afternoon tea off with a platter of sweets. Priced at $85++ for two persons inclusive of two glasses of Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label, we reckon that the Seafood and Champagne Afternoon Tea is one of the best afternoon tea in Singapore! To make your afternoon tea experience sweeter, you can also have the afternoon tea set with a whole bottle of champagne at just $130++.

Handlebar: Biker-themed Restaurant and Bar

IMG_5763

A couple of weeks back, I was tasked to come up with a dinner place to celebrate my brother’s birthday. You must be wondering why me and not the birthday boy. I have no idea too LOL. Anyway, I gave a number of suggestions and we finally decided on Handlebar at Sembawang. I came to know about this biker-themed restaurant cum bar quite some time ago when I still had the time to catch up on food and lifestyle blogs. The place looked pretty interesting and if you wanna find out more prior to visiting, Handlebar has a badass website. Haha.

IMG_5767

Handlebar is undeniably ulu, located along Jalan Mempurong. It was kinda scary when we drove along the small road because it was so dark! Had to park our vehicle outside and walk into Handlebar.

IMG_5757

Modified parts of cars and motorcycles were turned into bar counter seats.

IMG_5762

Definitely a highlight.

IMG_5753

IMG_5986

IMG_5988

IMG_5790

IMG_5768

We were seated outdoors, near the kitchen but could’t see any action lol.

P5287878

All of us had the usual boring drinks except for misterchewy who ordered a bottle of Fucking Hell ($12). Haha.

P5287889

Cocaine Wings ($14) are named as such because they are supposed to be addictive. Out of the three spiciness levels, we tried medium. Ehhhh.. No kick la. Just a slight tingling sensation on the lips. The wings tasted a little sweet too.

If you like onion rings, you will enjoy the Blossom Onion ($12). I’m not a fan though.

I had the Righteous Ribs ($28) which was slightly pricey but the portion was so huge that I only managed to finish slightly more than three quarter of the ribs. Ribs were juicy and tender.

Didn’t try the Beer-battered Fish & Chips ($18) for myself but I dont think anything could go wrong here!

My parents and brother had the Grilled Pork Chop ($26). Imagine two thick slabs of pork chops.. How to finish?! Big eaters rejoice!

On the overall, Handlebar is quite a nice place but I would recommend going earlier before the sun sets. Food is mediocre, nothing to shout about but great for sharing given the large serving portions.
