HAPPY 2016 EVERYBARDY! Omg I can’t believe it has been two weeks since I last posted something here! I guess I felt a little jaded towards the end of 2015 and I just wasn’t in the mood to blog at all. Well, I actually contemplated not blogging over the next few months but of course I don’t have the heart to do so la. Hahaha. Anyway I’m too lazy to do a recap of 2015, all I can say is that it was a pretty good year for The Chewys, with plenty of travels and we moved into our new home in September. Will 2016 be an even better year? Let’s work to make it happen! đ

Vita Italiana Singapore Review
– Tasting Invite –
Singaporeans are a really lucky bunch. With new restaurants sprouting up ever so often, we can safely say that the F&B scene in Singapore is a very vibrant and exciting one. Vita Italiana is a new Italian restaurant located along Mosque Street and is barely 6 months old. We were hosted by Chef Jeremy, one of the co-owners who has an impressive 15 years of invaluable experience working in the kitchens at Tower Club, Da Paolo, Bel Mondo, etc. He had even operated a “chap chye png’ stall alongside his wife in a primary school!
Vita Italiana is a small and cosy restaurant which seats about 35 to 40 comfortably. Definitely a nice place for that first date or anniversary celebration!
We had some homemade bread with pesto while waiting for our food to arrive. The bread was warm and had a nice chewy bite to it.
True to its name, the Cappuccino ai Porcini ($12) arrived looking exactly like a cup of cappuccino. Four types of mushroom were used in addition to truffle foam. Dusted with a pinch of cocoa powder, this mushroom soup tasted hearty and had a wonderfully rich earthy taste. You know what they say – best for a cold, rainy day!
We tried two types of pizza, the Carbonara ($22) and Bismarck ($24). According to Chef Jeremy, due to certain constraints, Vita Italiana does not use a wood fire oven for their pizza but I don’t see any problem with that as the pizza was very fluffy and crisp around the edges. Interestingly, beer is used make the pizza dough which results in a hint of fragrance and flavor in the pizza.
We tackled the carbonara pizza first, which consisted of roasted garlic cream, mozzarella, bacon, egg, onion marmalade and parmigiano. The flavors worked harmoniously well together that we found ourselves licking our fingers clean. The Bismarck ($24) pizza was also a winner, with balanced notes of sweet, sour and savory. We absolutely loved the soft egg in the middle and we even used the slices of pizza to soak up as much egg yolk as possible.
We don’t usually order ravioli but Vita Italiana’s Ravioli al Granchio ($26) homemade ravioli certainly left a lasting impression on us. The vodka tomato cream sauce was very rich and had a sharp, bright flavor which screams delicious!
The pieces of ravioli were al dente and such a joy biting into. We were also very impressed by how generously stuffed the pieces of ravioli were, with fresh crabmeat and thyme. It was a brilliant idea to include thyme as it adds a subtle aroma to the overall dish and has a slightly minty flavor to balance out the heaviness of the vodka tomato cream sauce. This is definitely a very well-executed dish!
Upon learning from Chef Jeremy that the Maiale al Forno ($28) involves a very arduous cooking process, we just had to appreciate this dish even more. One of the steps involves the sous vide cooking method, which allows the flavor to be locked in and its essence is amplified as the pork is cooked in its own natural juices. The pork crackling was perfectly crispy and the meat-to-fat ratio was an optimal one. It also helped that some orange juice had been drizzled over the pork for that slightly zesty flavor.
I have a sweet tooth but sometimes, I just prefer my desserts to be not so sweet. Vita Italiana’s Tiramisu di Vita ($12) isn’t ridiculously sweet and also scored in more ways than one. The cake was moist and spongy, while the delicious creamy taste was simply unforgettable!
Just when we thought we didn’t have room for any more food, the Tortino di cioccolato con cuore fondente ($12) had a surprise element which we could not resist. The chocolate lava cake had a Gorgonzola centre filling which made the overall taste so much more interesting! Who would have thought that blue cheese and chocolate could go so well together! Chef Jeremy told us that it was actually an accidental invention in the kitchen! If you are not a fan of blue cheese, there is also a peanut butter option.
Chef Jeremy recommended this Ciu Ciu Tebaldo Marche Bianco IGT, Italy wine which was a great pairing for most of the dishes we tried. This wine is not readily available elsewhere, so be sure to try it when you are at Vita Italiana!
Vita Italiana is also selling a wide range of top quality Italian Christmas Cakes, Panettone and Pandoro. If you are looking for something for your Christmas party, do check out the selection here!
The husband and I had a wonderful dining experience at Vita Italiana. The food certainly surpassed our expectations and we highly recommend Vita Italiana to all our readers and friends. We can’t wait to revisit this fabulous restaurant! Stay connected with us on Facebook www.facebook.com/missuschewy and on Instagram @missuschewy, @misterchewy and @little_miss_chewy đ

5 Must-Have Items For Stylish Mothers
Just because Iâm a mother doesnât mean my sense of style has to go out the window. No âmom jeansâ for me! But it is true that as a mother, your style evolves. You start wearing clothing based on the baby â donât wear a dress you donât want spit-up on; donât wear heels too high for you to run from one end of the room to the other in a hurry; donât wear anything too revealing. But â again, that doesnât mean you have to totally abandon your favorite pieces just because youâre with child.
All it takes is a little adjusting to make outfits work for your lifestyle. And if you do it right, what you wear will actually enrich your lifestyle rather than simply existing within it. What do I mean? Check out these five examples of things to wear as a mom with a busy schedule but an appetite for style.
1. Basic Layers
Layering your soft basics is perfect for those days you donât have enough time to get ready. With sleeves and fits that arenât constricting, youâre able to do practically anything necessary in order to complete everything on your to-do list. Itâs also helpful that layering is stylishly minimalistic.
2. Comfortable Flats
If you havenât learned by now, wearing uncomfortable shoes can be comparable to walking on a bed of nails. âLook to chic ballet flats,â like this page suggests, and youâll be able to focus on the task at hand rather than your throbbing feet.
3. A Carry-All Bag
The things you carry should not be carrying you â meaning, you should have a do-it-all bag to keep your essentials safe in one place. Real Simple did a great job of rounding up inspiration, listing large bags and diaper bags for the stylish mom.
4. Stylish Sunnies
This list of fashionable looks for moms recommends sunglasses as a standalone fashion statement. Even more, a pair of sunglasses is great for hiding tired eyes after long nights.
5. Stretchy Pants
For the countless moments you spend picking things up off the ground and moving in ways you didnât think would be necessary, a pair of pants that moves with you is a must-have. Luckily, joggers and athleisure garments are the perfect mix of trendy and stretchy.
Being a mother is not only a most rewarding experience, but it also gives me a chance to see my personal style in a new light. Finding new tricks to making my fashion functional has not been simple, but it helps seeing other sources of inspiration out there.

iSnap The Selfie Place
– Advertorial –
Why do we take photos? This is a question that I ask myself time and again, and the answer is always the same. I shoot just about anything under the sun but taking photos of my husband and daughter is something that I find so much joy in doing. Of course, I would want to be in the frame too and my fondest memory is when misterchewy and I lugged a tripod around during our three-week long honeymoon in Europe just so that we could capture precious moments for safekeeping. Things became different after Little misschewy came along. It was too much of a hassle, so we chucked the tripod in the store room and resorted mostly to taking selfies with our mobile phones. However, sometimes I feel that even with all the photo editing apps available, the photos taken with our mobile phones just don’t cut it.
Imagine our excitement when we found out about this really cool place called iSnap The Selfie Place! iSnap is the first photography company in Singapore that offers professionally equipped personal studio rooms for taking photos without the need of a photographer. It kinda reminded me of the neoprint booths during my secondary school days except that iSnap is so much more sophisticated of course!
After lunch on Sunday, we headed down to Bugis Village where iSnap is located. Wah seriously I feel so old. I can’t remember when was the last time I shopped for clothes at Bugis Village! It’s conveniently located just across Bugis MRT Station and Bugis Junction shopping mall so I still remember how to go there. Hahaha. iSnap is not difficult to find too. It’s right above Bee Cheng Hiang store, which is near the bus stop.
iSnap has 6 individual studio rooms with a total of 24 themes. Before we went into each room, we had a preview of the backdrops using one of these computers. Basically, the six rooms are Aries, Aquarius, Capricon, Leo, Pisces and Virgo. The variety of backdrops are very fun and colorful, which is definitely suitable for people of all ages!
Our first stop was Aries room which comes with a physical swing and a green backdrop. Doesn’t this look like a professional studio for photoshoot? The difference is that you are now your own photographer and you call take the shots. How? Very simple! Just hold the camera remote in your hand and adjust your pose by checking the huge screen in front of you. Satisfied? Simply press the remote and your shot will be captured! The good thing is that there is no limit to the number of photos taken so you can just fire away and be trigger-happy, which was exactly what happened for us because misterchewy was amused by all the candid and unglam shots of me. LOL.
There are costumes and props but let’s not get too excited first ya! Anyway, we also didn’t want to frighten Little misschewy so we had to make her feel at home by allowing her to roam around and play with the soft toys. I’m sure iSnap has child-friendly vibes because in less than 5 minutes, Little misschewy was smiling and pointing at the swing, going “Kiki! Kiki!” Yes, she likes Hello Kitty too!
Does this even look like a SELFIE to you? I whatsapped this photo to my mum and she instantly replied, “Photoshoot again? Where?” Hahaha. Usually for photoshoot sessions, the photographer will give you instructions on how to pose but at iSnap, we are allowed to unleash our own creativity! The hubs and I are the more conservative type, so for most of the shots, we just stand there and smile. HAHA.
Let your imagination run wild with over 500 costumes and props! Not only do they have costumes for adults, the children costumes are crazy adorable!
See what I mean?! LOL. I believe this is Alice in Wonderland? This Alice looks a bit blur blur hor?
Most of the costumes are quite big for Little misschewy but customers are more than welcome to bring their own costumes and props to the studio!
Love the range of couple wear! It’s not everyday that you get to dress like a Korean and call your hubby OPPA!!
Room Virgo! The hubs’ horoscope! Haha. Oh in case you are wondering.. The milk bottle is not a prop! The little one was asking for her milk so we had no choice but to let her drink while we continue taking our selfies.
Little misschewy was taking quite long to finish her milk so I told her to hold up her bottle and say, “CHEERS!” just so that we could capture a smiling shot of her.
Haiyo.. Little misschewy’s attention span is too short. The little pumpkin was more interested in walking around the studio room! But it’s ok! The hubs and I had fun posing in our silly animal costumes!
Moving on to Room Leo! We decided to go au naturel and by that I meant no costumes la! This is one of my favorite backdrops! It looks like some scene straight out from a fairytale.
Holding a bunch of balloons so that we can go UP.. UP.. and AWAY!
At the end of the day, we got to keep ALL the digital copies of the photos taken. Just remember to bring your thumbdrive along! In addition, iSnap also provides 5 4R photos FREE! Definitely saves you the hassle of having to print your favorite photos elsewhere!
As you can see, the studio rooms are clean and spacious, which provides a very conducive environment for corporate and private events!
Currently, there is an SG50 promotion so all personal photography packages are going for half the usual price!

PhillipCapital Invests in What Matters to Me!
– Advertorial –
I have a confession to make. I think I have been taking my parents for granted all this while and I didn’t know how much they have actually sacrificed for me until I became a new mother myself last year. My husband and I know that the journey of parenthood is definitely not a smooth sailing one. Even at the start, it is fraught with plenty of heartaches and challenges. Apart from having to adapt to a totally different lifestyle in terms of caring for a new member of the family, misterchewy and I have to worry about other aspects such as our increase in financial expenditure and also be mindful of our own health.
Even though we had assistance from my in-laws and confinement nanny during my first month postpartum, I was suffering from slight post natal blues. I remember breaking down at the slightest things and my parents were very concerned about me. They came by to visit whenever they could just to make sure that everything was in place. Now that we have moved into our own home, we can still rely on my parents to help take care of Chanelle when we need to stay behind to clear our work after office hours, or when we just want the occasional couple time over the weekend.
Now that I’m a mother, I have truly learned to appreciate my parents even more than ever. Not only have they supported and protected me for the past 20 odd years of my life, they have also extended their love to my husband and our daughter. With that, I have always wanted to do something for them in return to express my gratitude and also to do my part as their daughter. To be honest, I simply didn’t know where to begin but I am very certain that I want to invest in my parents because they matter the world to me.
I consider myself fortunate because after sharing my aspirations, PhillipCapital contacted me and communicated that they are willing to invest in what matters to me! This made me feel very humbled and overjoyed at the same time because PhillipCapital is a globally recognized financial institution with over 40 years of experience! They have a comprehensive suite of financial products and services which includes broking in securities, futures, foreign exchange, bonds, precious metals and commodities, unit trusts, contracts for difference, exchange traded funds; fund management, managed accounts, insurance planning, regular savings plans, investment research, equity financing and property consultancy. I know that I can count on PhillipCapital to do something for my family!
After much discussion to get to know more about our family, PhillipCapital will be sponsoring my mum and dad an annual travel insurance plan each! My folks were also very thrilled when I shared this piece of good news with them as they share a passion for travelling. Since young, my parents have been to numerous countries and I must say that my brother and I are very blessed to be able to travel abroad with them every year without fail. My parents have worked hard during their younger days and I think it is about time that they stop to smell the roses and see more of this beautiful world now that they have more free time to enjoy what they love to do!
Through our meetings with PhillipCapital, I learnt that clients will benefit from PhillipCapital’s customized solution to meet clients’ individual needs with their comprehensive range of products from more than 10 General Insurance partners. Specifically, I was interested to know how PhillipCapital can cater to my parents’ travelling needs. As much as my parents love travelling, the last thing they want is to worry about being thrown off their travel plans due to flight diversions, accidents, lost baggage and other travel inconveniences. Gotta thank PhillipCapital for the comprehensive travel insurance plans! My parents can now travel stress-free!
I’m sharing our very first video which features The Chewys and my parents! In celebration of PhillipCapital’s 40th anniversary, share your aspirations with PhillipCapital here http://phillip40.poems.com.sg/aspiration/#share and stand a chance to have your aspiration fulfilled! đ
Shangri-La Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa Penang
– Sponsored Post –
Earlier, we reviewed Golden Sands Resort Penang and we are gonna do a quick post on Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa today. When we were in Penang, we spent the entire day in Georgetown before checking in for a night in the evening. Rasa Sayang is located just next to Golden Sands.
We stayed at one of the newly refurbished Garden Wing rooms which had a spacious and airy, nature-inspired ambience. Elegant yet understated, the family-friendly Garden Wing allows guests to feel relaxed and at ease. The Garden Wing rooms are designed with the family in mind, marrying function and beauty, both practical yet elegant.
All rooms are serviced by the resort’s housekeeping team at least twice daily. Each room is facilitated with an in-room locker, data port for internet, IDD telephone with voice mail, satellite television with non-stop in-house movies, and more!
The bedroom is furnished with a separate shower and bathtub as well as Shangri-La’s collection of bathroom amenities, hair dryer, slippers and bathrobes.
The 189 rooms and suites at Garden Wings are breezy and pleasant, offering accommodation which features views of the sea and gardens. Most of the suites feature a spacious terrace with a separate sitting room and parlour, giving it a touch of home.
We took a buggy ride to Golden Sands Resort so that Little misschewy could have her dose of fun at Adventure Zone, a modular play area designed for kids of all ages.
The 10000 square foot facility has a comprehensive indoor playground with three categories of drop slides and multiple sections of modular play equipment. The main highlight are the drop slides, which have been proven to be extremely safe and offer a high level of enjoyable for both children and adults.
This is the toddler-friendly area that was more suitable for Little misschewy.
Can’t say no to her favorite ball pit!
We had breakfast at the Spice Market Cafe the morning before we checked out. It is a casual restaurant that offers authentic ethnic cuisines from diverse cultures such as Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Thai and also Western. Located on the ground floor of the Garden Wing, the restaurant is right beside the swimming pool under the rain trees.
Hearty breakfast before we make our way to the airport for our flight back home! Daily buffet breakfast at the Spice Market Cafe is from 6.30am to 11am.

Casa Verde at Singapore Botanic Gardens
Hello everybardy! Oh yes, Little misschewy’s expression says it all. Whutttt it’s Monday again..! Hahaha. We had a pretty good weekend and the little one stayed over at my parents’ place as usual. Yesterday, we met up with misterchewy’s secondary school buddies for lunch at Botanical Gardens because Casa Verde is a pet-friendly restaurant and one of the couples had planned to bring their dog along. We have never been to a restaurant or cafe that allows pets so it was quite an eye-opening experience for us!
Hmm.. Mummy, what are we going to have for lunch?
Some quick snaps of the food around our table!
I had the All Day Gourmet Breakfast ($18) which was just mediocre really. The scrambled eggs were too watery for my liking. Little misschewy liked the mushrooms and kept asking for more.
Chanelle and Oscar! Sorry I forgot what’s the breed but he’s such a handsome dog, isn’t he! Some of these pics were taken by Cheng Xiang.
I’m afraid of dogs and cats so here’s Qihui trying to get Chanelle to stroke Oscar’s fur. Haha.
Alicia and Chanelle are about 6 to 7 months apart but Alicia is a big eater! Very impressed by her appetite!
This photo got feel or not? LOL. You know it’s like those typical OOTD pose.
It was a lot of fun for Little misschewy as it was her first time running around on grass. There were many other children and dogs but she paid no attention to them. Hahaha.
Have a great week ahead! Stay connected with us on Facebook www.facebook.com/missuschewy and on Instagram @missuschewy, @misterchewy and @little_miss_chewy đ
