Singapore Mid Autumn Festival 2012 Mooncakes + GIVEAWAY!

_MG_7687

Hello my Chewy friends! Mid Autumn Festival is just two weeks away! Have you started placing your orders for mooncakes? There are so many mooncakes being paraded out there in the market already! What influences your buying decision? I’m sure the price, flavor, brand and packaging are just some of the many important factors right? Anyway, I know that the ‘mooncake eating season’ is not officially here yet, but I have had the wonderful opportunity of sampling some over the past few weeks! 😀

_MG_7704

We all know what Swensen’s is famous for. People of all ages will love their ever popular ice cream mooncakes. This year, these icy treats come in 6 flavours: Strawberry Fields Forever, Durian Royale, Yummy Yam, Sticky Chewy Chocolate, Cookies ‘n’ Cream Dreams and Mocha Almond Delight. Gotta love the lovely keepsake box featuring the unique Swensen’s Tiffany lamp designs too! Retails at $29.80 for a box of 4 or at $8.60 a piece. Available at all Swensen’s and Earle Swensen’s outlets till 30 September 2012.

_MG_8025

Do you look forward to trying really unique snowskin mooncake flavors that are not readily available elsewhere? Then head to Xin Cuisine Chinese Restaurant at Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium!

_MG_8049

Snowskin mooncakes are priced at $48 for a box of 6. Tantalize the taste buds with exciting and inventive mooncake flavors like Rum & Raisin Chocolate and Chinese dates paste, Soursop & Chocolate Crunch, Champagne Chocolate & Pandan Lotus Paste, Lavender Chocolate and Chempedak Lotus Paste, Peranakan mooncake with Durian Paste, and Black Truffle Walnut and White Lotus Seed Paste. I loved all flavors and if I really had to pick one that I really really really enjoyed, it would be the Soursop & Chocolate Crunch 🙂

_MG_8080

Do you know that it is very popular to give and receive pineapple cakes during Mid Autumn Festival in Taiwan? I have always associated pineapple tarts with Chinese New Year but thanks to Sunnyhills, I can totally see myself eating pineapple cakes during Mid Autumn Festival in the future years to come!

Sunnyhills

Sunnyhills’ Mid-Autumn tote bag and gift box features the iconic Jade Rabbit (which kinda reminds me of Miffy) and are available in boxes of 10 pieces ($25), 15 pieces ($37.50) and 20 pieces ($50).

_MG_8071

To ensure optimum freshness, each piece of Sunnyhills pineapple cake is individually packaged with a desiccant.

_MG_8094

Its Singapore branch is located at Raffles Hotel while the Taiwan-based SunnyHills is a specialty bakery offering authentic pineapple cakes that are traditionally sourced, made, and baked in Taiwan. Having tasted the pineapple cakes, I have to say that the crust is moist, crumbly with a slight chewy bite and the fibrous pineapple filling is sweet and tangy, which makes this a very delightful snack!

Emicakes 001

Mention Emicakes and I’m sure everyone will agree that its Singapore’s Number 1 Durian Cake Maker. Fancy some D24 or Mao Shan Wang ice cream mooncakes? They come in small and large sizes as well as a mixed size combo.

Emicakes 004

I was given the Golden 4 Mao Shan Wang ($73.80) to sample. Remember to thaw it for a while after taking the mooncakes out from the freezer if not you’re gonna just have to risk breaking a tooth 😛

Emicakes 017

Seriously, all hardcore durian fanatics will definitely love this creamy, rich and luxurious Mao Shan Wang ice cream mooncakes! Catching a whiff of this wonderful durian fragrance is guaranteed to make any durian lover go floating on cloud nine.

Mooncakes 014

Singapore’s first bakery franchise, Prima Deli, celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and what better way to mark this mid-autumn than to introduce family favourite mooncakes! Toffee Cappuccino, Chocolate Hazelnut and Raspberry Truffle snowskin mooncakes are three new additions to PrimaDéli’s current selection of more than twelve tantalizing flavours of traditionally baked and snowskin mooncakes.

Mooncakes 012

The Royal Gift Set ($38.80) features an alluring selection of nine mini snowskin mooncakes in a classy gold box and makes a generous gift for friends and relatives. These family friendly flavors are perfect for indulging together with people of all ages – Oreo Chocolate, Cranberry Cheese, Toffee Cappuccino Pandan Lotus with Half Yolk, Strawberry Chocolate, Chocolate Hazelnut, Raspberry Truffle, Black Sesame with Mochi and D24 Durian.

Mooncakes 025

In addition to the mini snowskin mooncakes, PrimaDeli also offers their traditional regular-sized Baked Mooncakes ($38.80 for a box of four).

Mooncakes 028

Mooncakes 033

My family and I sat down and shared all four mooncake flavors – Pure Lotus with Single Yolk, White Lotus, White Lotus with Single Yolk and Golden Jade with Single Yolk. Of all three types of lotus paste, I personally felt that pandan and green bean paste in the Golden Jade with Single Yolk was the most fragrant and refreshing flavor.

Mooncakes 003

This Mid Autumn Festival sees Purple Sage introducing their mooncakes for the very first time! As the saying goes, all food.. umm I mean, all good things come in threes. Purple Sage’s mooncakes come in a classic box of Lotus Paste with Double Yolk and Melon Seeds, Jade Custard and Low Sugar Black Sesame White Lotus with Single Yolk ($38+). Of all the three flavors, I liked the Low Sugar Black Sesame White Lotus with Single Yolk best. Pairing it with a pot of Chinese tea makes eating these traditional mooncakes a very lovely experience.

Mooncakes 004

Thanks to Purple Sage, one lucky reader will get to try a box of traditional mooncakes! If you are keen on joining this giveaway contest, click here for more info!

A big thank you to Swensen’s, Xin Cuisine, Sunnyhills, Emicakes, PrimaDeli and Purple Sage for the mooncakes and here’s wishing all our lovely readers Happy Mid Autumn Festival! 🙂

Go on a Japanese Gourmet Journey & Redeem Sushi Cushions @ Liang Court till 29 July 2012!

-Sponsored Post-

_MG_6142

Hello friends, I bet you guys are looking forward to the weekend already! Fret not if you don’t have any plans yet because missuschewy strongly urges everyone to go on a Gourmet Journey in Japanese style at Liang Court. Besides a host of gourmet choices and yummy treats, there are many entertaining and exciting activities such as cooking demonstrations, authentic Japanese performances and gourmet challenges that people of all ages can take part in and also win fantastic prizes at the same time! Why spend your precious weekend wandering aimlessly along the streets of Orchard Road? Come on down to Liang Court and immerse in the wonderful Japanese culture! 🙂

_MG_5918

The kind folks at AsiaMalls Management sponsored us some shopping and dining vouchers. Grabbed Celes, Derrick and his partner along to check out the host of activities at the mall last Sunday!

_MG_5910

If you crave for Japanese cuisine, the best place to head to is of course Liang Court! Isn’t it obvious? Haha. My favorite restaurant at Liang Court is Tampopo. There are many others like the famous Marutama Ra-men, Botejyu Okonomiyaki, and Saizeriya that you can choose from too! We decided to have a quick lunch at the relatively new Dulcet & Studio which is also under the Tampopo group.

_MG_5912

I like Dulcet & Studio for its relaxed and laidback vibe. Will definitely pop by again for more cakes and tea!

_MG_5952

_MG_5955

_MG_5941

_MG_5947

_MG_5922

_MG_5920

_MG_5964

After lunch, we wanted to catch the Japanese Lion Dance with Mask performance at the main atrium and spotted the performers while we were making our way there!

_MG_5971

_MG_6060

All the performances, gourmet challenges and cooking workshops are held on weekends so the next one would be on 21 and 22 July from 1 to 6pm.

_MG_6008

This little boy is all prepared for the Japanese Gourmet Journey too!

_MG_6003

_MG_6015

_MG_6038

_MG_6049

I must really hand it to the performers for giving their best shot in the Japanese lion dance with mask show. Everyone stopped in their tracks to watch the performance and we all learned a thing or two about the Japanese culture. Next weekend, there will be a Special MIYAKE DAIKO performance and Japanese Folk Dance performance so watch out for them!

_MG_6082

Next up was the Subway Tasters Challenge where shoppers who spend a minimum of $20 in a single receipt will be eligible to put their taste buds to the test! The first to guess correctly the most number of sauces and fillings on their Subway sandwiches will walk away with the most number of prizes!

_MG_6089

Spot anyone familiar up on the stage? LOL.

_MG_6093

Not sure what that look from misterchewy meant. Probably a little caught off guard?

_MG_6094

_MG_6097

_MG_6102

Good thing this wasn’t a eating competition in terms of who can eat the most, if not the atmosphere would be a tensed one! The contestants seemed to be enjoying their Subs! 😀

_MG_6114

I must say that misterchewy had been very courageous to take part in this tasting challenge because the only Sub that he eats is Subway Melt!

_MG_6126

_MG_6129

All participants will definitely go home with some prizes. The higher your ranking, you get to draw more prizes! The Subway Tasters Challenge will take place again on 22 July, next Sunday at 2pm.

_MG_6146

Yay! The boy won a lovely Japanese sake set! I think it’s a sign that we should start stocking up on sake. Heh 😛

_MG_5974

The Japanese fair features a wide range of food products and simple kitchen appliances, etc.

_MG_6058

Keep the little ones happy with the Gourmet Journey Coloring Book for Kids! It is also a good way for them to learn about the different Japanese food such as sushi, ramen, bento, etc.

_MG_6068

Having passed by many shops, the one that intrigued me the most was LALU. Its interior is so 1980s and many of the pretty frocks are very feminine!

_MG_6066

The fashion collection consists of the White Romance Collection, Dress with an Edge Collection and Glam Chic Collection. Depending on your mood and style, you will definitely find something you like!

IMG_1349

For easy, one-stop shopping for the entire family, I suggest that you check out Miki Outlet Store (M.O.S). Not only can you find clothes for the adult male and female, there are clothes for kids and teens as well!

IMG_1345

This looks like a two-piece but it’s actually a dress! Perfect for casual outings. I bought not one but two dresses at M.O.S 😛

IMG_1348

Yup and this was the other dress that I chose. Really flatters my figure! Hehehe! :PPP

_MG_6192

After shopping, we settled our dinner at Nirai Kanai Okinawan Restaurant.

_MG_6166

_MG_6159

_MG_6157

_MG_6161

_MG_6174

_MG_6177

_MG_6186

It was our first time trying Okinawan food and we liked it very much! Felt that it wasn’t distinctly Japanese and the pork belly dishes gave us the impression that there had been some Chinese influence on Okinawan dishes. The total bill came up to about $120 which is very reasonable.

_MG_5906

If you spend $120 in a maximum of 2 same-day receipts, you can redeem for an adorable Sushi Cushion, while stocks last! Terms and condition apply so do check with the customer service staff at level 2.

_MG_6136

I’m loving my Ebi Sushi cushion! It’s so soft and huggable! <3 Next in the series are Sushi Roll from 18 July and Maki Sushi from 24 July. A word of caution: They might be fully redeemed really quickly!

The Chewys had an awesome weekend at Liang Court and we hope you will too! Have fun everyone! 😀 😀 😀

A big thank you to AsiaMalls Management for the vouchers.

Cook Your Very Own Curry La Mian with Prima Taste!

_MG_4457

One lazy Sunday afternoon, the Chewys decided to stay at home and whip up a simple meal in the kitchen. Usually we would choose to eat out because the thought of having to cook and then wash up afterwards is quite scary. We were given the opportunity to sample Prima Taste’s Curry La Mian quite some time back but we never got round to doing it. To be honest, I will never forget the tasty Laksa noodles that we had at Prima Taste Kitchen last year. The noodles were premium steam dried and are not those deep fried noodles that u can get in your typical pack of instant noodles.

_MG_4474

Before I embarked on my mission, the missus proclaimed that she wanted to have a hard boiled egg to go along with her noodles so here’s one for each of us.

_MG_4480

I followed the instructions stated on the pack closely! Rule of thumb: Do not add too much water if not the curry will end up too watery.

_MG_4498

_MG_4503

Pour in the Curry Paste first.

_MG_4511

Followed by the Curry Premix.

_MG_4513

At this point, it smelled heavenly already!

_MG_4516

_MG_4490

Depends on personal preference. I tend to peel the hard boiled eggs while waiting for the noodles to be cooked.

_MG_4497

The missus and I decided to add crabmeat sticks and chicken meatballs too.

_MG_4528

_MG_4555

And here is The Chewys’ very own Prima Taste Curry La Mian! Does it look appetising? The curry gravy was intense with flavors and very lemak too! Of course, the missus kept silent throughout as she tucked in hungrily into her bowl of noodles and this served as a form of reaffirmation that Prima Taste’s Curry La Mian is something that everyone can easily cook in the comfort of their own kitchens!

Thank you Prima Taste and Ruby from Foreword Communications for the Curry La Mian.

Stellar @ 1-Altitude: The Good Life App by Standard Chartered

_MG_4029

Last week, Hubby Chewy and I had the honour to be invited to an influencer event where we were treated to an exquisite dinner specially prepared by the award-winning culinary team of Stellar @ 1-Altitude. We were seated right next to the window and this amazing view left us gaping in awe. We were very lucky because we had the opportunity to enjoy the scenic view while savoring the delectable dishes with a glass of wine. 😀

_MG_4046

Stellar on level 62 is a restaurant that serves modern cuisine focusing on artisanal methods of preparation. Stellar’s kitchen is a culinary workshop where the highest degree of attention is paid to sourcing the best seasonal produce and refining recipes, allowing ingredients to speak for themselves.

_MG_4045

The focal point is a multi-concept open kitchen where guests are presented with a dazzling display of variety.

_MG_4055

The night started off with a glass of Mojito for yours truly.

_MG_4061

Me and my handsome date. Hehehe 😛

_MG_4058

Fellow bloggers Jacob (cooksnapeatlove) and Shi Ting (lobsterpaints) were seated across us! 😀

_MG_4066

Next to us were Derrick (dashtaz) and his girlfriend! As you can see, we were quite on time. The seats behind us were still unoccupied.

_MG_4063

_MG_4071

Prior to this influencer event, we were requested to bring along our iPhone or iPad as part of the dinner would require us to place our “order” via an iOS device.

_MG_4080

In between courses, we were being introduced to The Good Life app by Standard Chartered. I will tell you more in my next blog post! 🙂

_MG_4085

First came the Amuse Bouche which was Poached lobster with mango salsa. I have never tasted anything like this before and I can’t quite put a word to it. The mango salsa was a lovely and harmonious blend of pistachio, sesame and mango.

_MG_4095

Everyone had the same appetizer, the Crab & Sevruga Caviar which was specially created for that night. There were various tastes and textures in this one. My favorite? The Sevruga Caviar of course!

_MG_4105

When it came to the mains, we had a peek at the choices via The Good Life app, which can be downloaded free at the App Store. Both Jacob and Derrick’s partner had the Wagyu Rib Eye as their main course.

_MG_4101

We decided to something different from one another so that we could try a bit of everything and so, misterchewy ordered the Slow Roasted Suckling Pig with iberico jamon and Fig Stuffing paired with a glass of red wine.

_MG_4103

The slow roasted suckling pig was just so juicy and tender beyond words that every bite was sheer delight.

_MG_4108

I noticed that misterchewy was uncomfortable with the kurobuta pork because it appeared fatty and he began fumbling with his fork and knife. I knew I just had to patient before he sliced up parts of the meat for me. One of the best kurobuta pork I have ever tasted. Its texture exquisite and supple, flavor rich and sweet.

Reedemed

_MG_4117

Yours truly went for the Cod Fillet, another main course specially created for the night.

_MG_4114

Served with grilled artichoke, truffle, parsnip puree, tomato salsa and lemon foam, the cod fillet was moist and rich with a buttery flavor and its texture was firm.

_MG_4120

Needless to say, we had to end the awesome meal with an equally awesome dessert. We were first served the White Chocolate Bomb with Lemon Verbena Pannacotta and shortly afterwards, Hot Citron Sauce was drizzled on top of the white chocolate.

_MG_4130

The end result revealed the Lemon Verbena Pannacotta within the White Chocolate Bomb, which tasted pretty much like natural yogurt. The white chocolate was really sweet and not many could finish it, but misterchewy and I did so with ease!

_MG_4140ed

We rounded off the lovely evening with some drinks at 1-Altitude – the world’s highest al fresco bar located 282m above sea level!

Oasia Hotel Singapore Staycation Blog Review

Sponsored Staycation

The Chewys' Staycation @ Oasia Hotel-001

Hot on the heels of our blog post on The Chewys’ very first Singapore staycation, we have lined up another mega blog post filled with many photos taken during the 1st Year Anniversary Party and staycation at Oasia Hotel! The party was very fun and lively; with lots of cocktails and chocolates to go around. As for the staycation, we are summing up our experience in three words: awesome, impressive and exclusive! 😀

_MG_3665

Oasia Hotel is situated in the heart of the charming Novena enclave, just a stone’s throw away from shopping malls, Novena Square Velocity and Square 2, as well as the Novena MRT Station. Talk about extreme convenience and accessibility! Since it was a little early for us to check-in, we settled our lunch at Square 2’s Sakae Sushi before crossing the link bridge over to Oasia. At about 2pm, we proceeded straight to Level 22 because that’s where the check-in/check-out is done for Oasia Club rooms or suites guests.

_MG_3049-001

The club room that we stayed in for the night is on the 24th floor, highest being the 25th. The room features understated modern decor, subtle hues of nature-inspired elements and ambient lighting that will soothe one’s senses.

_MG_3074-001

All Oasia Club Room guests will also enjoy very exclusive privileged access to The Living Room and its pool facilities on the 22nd floor, as well as complimentary breakfast, cocktail and all-day coffee, tea, juices, soft drinks and alcoholic drinks at The Living Room, complimentary one piece of suit pressing per stay (non accumulative) and daily newspapers.

_MG_3138

_MG_3084-001

_MG_3051-001

Fresh fruits in our room. How nice! 🙂

_MG_3054-001

There’s even stationery! It’s all the little things and personal touches like these that are both welcoming and intuitive, which left us impressed.

_MG_3151

We love listening to music and we were grinning from ear to ear upon seeing the iPod/iPhone docking machine! 😀

_MG_3642-001

Most hotel rooms only have like two or three pin power point sockets so it was pleasant to have this USB power socket. One USB cable does the trick of charging all your electronic devices like your camera, mobile phone and MP3 player. At least it works for me! Imagine the hassle of having to bring ten different chargers for all your devices. 😛

_MG_3059

All Oasia Club rooms are equipped with unlimited broadband access. Here’s misterchewy calling the reception to find out what’s the correct ‘last name’ to key in together with our room number, in order to log onto the WIFI network.

_MG_3321

_MG_3116

46 inch LED television!

_MG_3114

Woots! Complimentary mini bar is rather well-stocked. 😀 😀 😀

_MG_3113

If you want a hot drink, there’s also Nespresso coffee-making facilities! 😀

_MG_3352-001

Not a fan of coffee? There’s Naturalis tea!

_MG_3153-001

We went, “Whoaaaaa!” In this wardrobe, there are bath robes, bedroom slippers, iron with ironing board, and even a large umbrella! Very thoughtful indeed!

_MG_3094-001

And here comes the part many would be concerned about, other than the bed. Bath tub on the left, rain shower on the right!

_MG_3157-001

_MG_3605-001

I first had the chance to use these bath amenities from Thann when I stayed in one of the hotels in Taiwan. Madly in love with the aromatic wood scent!

_MG_3361

_MG_3090-001

_MG_3096-001

Everything that you need, it’s in there! Toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, shaver, showering cap, cotton buds, loofah, etc!

_MG_3110

_MG_3078

Heh heh heh. You can derive a little bit of fun and excitement from watching your partner shower! 😛 The blinds can be operated with a simple click in the bathroom.

_MG_3065-002

Same goes for the blinds and shades in the room! We were greeted by a very breathtaking view of the city! Basically, the husband and I just sat on the ledge and admired the sight for a good 10 minutes 🙂 Haha but of course, we had to pull down the blinds after a few minutes because it was getting kinda hot! 😛

_MG_3070

_MG_3322-horz

_MG_3339-horz

_MG_3306

As we had a couple of hours to kill before the event, Hubby Chewy and I went for a little tour around the hotel! Went to level 8 first.

_MG_3297-001

The swimming pool looks very nice right! I like the ‘feel’!

_MG_3299-001

There’s a jacuzzi too!

_MG_3300-001

_MG_3312

The gymnasium is located on level 8 too. Not very big but it has a handful of cardio machine like the treadmill and stationary bike. Those who are on an endurance or strength training regime can make use of the free weights and the all-in-one machine!

_MG_3289-001

And now, level 22! Over here, Oasia Club room guests get to enjoy very exclusive benefits and be pampered like kings and queens!

_MG_3201

Tadah! This is The Living Room! Very nice place to chill out!

_MG_3211

_MG_3236-001

Here’s a sneak peek of the setup for the event at night! 😉

_MG_3269-001

We pushed past the glass door and stood in awe in front of this very beautiful infinity pool which boasts a magnificent view of the city! Oh man, I wish I could jump right in! Anyway, this is only open to club room guests!

_MG_3258

_MG_3281

This jacuzzi looks way bigger than the one we saw at level 8!

_MG_3284

How relaxing it is to just lie here and enjoy a glass of orange juice as you get your dose of Vitamin D! Just remember to apply sunblock! 😛

_MG_3287-001

_MG_3366-001

Hey hey hey! That’s not all to it. Light bites by the pool are available for club guests between 6-8pm at the Club Lounge. If you are like me who gets hungry after a swim, you should rejoice to this! 😛

_MG_3378-001

_MG_3374-001

_MG_3376-001

_MG_3375-001

_MG_3372-001

_MG_3384-001

Since the event was scheduled to start at 7pm and we didn’t have time for dinner, we ate a bit from the spread.

_MG_3391

_MG_3393-001

We are now ready to party! I love how these glasses are being made use of here. Brilliant!

_MG_3394

Some of the early birds that night 😛

_MG_3402-001

_MG_3416-001

Very addictive Monbana chocolates from France! I loveeee dark chocolates 😀

_MG_3411-001

Pretty Monbana girls who flew over to Singapore as a team!

_MG_3408

_MG_3423

I met winner of Project Superstar Season 2, Daren Tan Sze Wei!

_MG_3442-001

Turns out that he’s the Sales and Marketing Director of Naturalis! Their products include teas, jams, spreads, honeys and sauces.

_MG_3456-001

The bartender was preparing the welcome drink for everyone, which made use of products from Naturalis.

_MG_3463-001

_MG_3481-001

Summer’s Bouquet is a lovely concoction of vodka, elderflower syrup, Singapore Sling tea, lemon and ice cubes!

_MG_3477-001

I’m sure everybody present that night enjoyed the exclusive Chocholatier Masterclass conducted by Mr Geoffroy Maubon, who’s the first barista of Monbana!

_MG_3486-001

_MG_3496-001

I can’t recall the name of this drink but I loveeee its color very much! My favorite color 😛

_MG_3499-001

Next up was the highlight for the night, the unveiling of Oasia’s signature cocktail drink! It has also been very aptly named, “L22“.

_MG_3514-001

_MG_3524-001

Since we were there to celebrate Oasia’s 1st year anniversary, we couldn’t go without a massive birthday cake topped with macarons that brought about surprised gasps from the awe-stricken audience!

_MG_3525-001

We called it a night after singing the birthday song and grabbing a piece of macaron! What a night! 😀

_MG_3528

Hahaha I kinda sabo-ed misterchewy to be interviewed instead of me doing the job because I’m camera shy! Oops! 😛

_MG_3577

Back in our room. LOL! I told misterchewy I’m gonna do a test shot and he did this pose. Super cheeky la!

_MG_3579

_MG_3583

Oh yes, after the event ended, I was feeling kinda hungry and we hopped over to Novena Square. It’s that convenient! Had a craving for sashimi, as usual, and we grabbed some from Cold Storage. Half price somemore. Hahaha!

IMG_1033

Feeling very refreshed after a long hot shower! 😀

IMG_1039

Face masking time for us! I swear we friggin look like Alien Workshop! LOLOLOL.

IMG_1043

The bed was way too comfy and we decided to just lie there watching Titantic on our iPad! 😀 😀 😀

_MG_3588-001

I can’t believe I got hungry again towards the end of the movie! Hubby Chewy then suggested that we order something from the supper menu that’s available from 11pm to 5am by calling room service! He had the fries while I was contented with my mushroom soup with truffle oil.

_MG_3597

IMG_1046

Time for bed! A couple who brushes their teeth together, stays together. Hahaha! 😛

_MG_3630-001

We had a very good sleep and woke up to the rhythmic pitter patter of raindrops against the window pane early next morning. 🙂

_MG_3634-001

Nothing beats lazing in bed with your loved one while listening to music from the iPod docking machine! It was fabulous! We played songs from Rita Ora, Katy Perry, The Wanted, Jayesslee, Jay Chou and many more. 😀 😀 😀

_MG_3650-001

The husband and I have a thing for having breakfast in the hotel. Good thing we remembered to tick the items that we wanted and hung our order on the door knob before we slept the night before.

_MG_3648-001

I don’t have much of an appetite in the morning and settled for the mini pancakes and some cornflakes while misterchewy had a hearty American breakfast with bacon and poached eggs!

_MG_3660

Woots! Breakfast is served! No words can explain how blissful we felt 😀

_MG_3627

That’s all folks! Have a fantabulous weekend and a lovely holiday on Chewsday! 😛

New Crocs New You

Hello friends and readers, what is your impression of Crocs footwear? Honestly speaking, I can’t seem to shake the image of the original, classic pair of Crocs off my mind! But that is before I witness before my very eyes, how Hubby Chewy gets a makeover with his new pair of Crocs! 😀 In recent years, Crocs has transformed from a one shoe company into a brand that carries over 300 shoe styles each season.

Kim’s Family Restaurant: Cheap Cheap Cheap Korean Food!

Kim's Family Restaurant

We have so many people in The Barang Barang Gang (secondary school friends from Swiss Cottage) and it has expanded from a group size of 8 to 10 right now. Ideally, we should have 16 people if each one of us introduces our partners. Yeah, misterchewy is an official gangsta! Lololol just kidding! We celebrated three September baby boys’ (including misterchewy) and one October baby girl’s birthday recently! After much discussing on Facebook, we decided on dinner at Kim’s Family Restaurant at Lorong Kilat. I used to work in a jamming studio along that street while waiting to be matriculated into NUS. Ahhhh memories..

_MG_6017-horz

Waiting for our table to be set up! Loving this black and white chiffon vest courtesy of ByLizzie blogshop! I’m almost always in dresses because I’m lazy about having to mix and match. Well, this is easy. White tube top, black shorts, vest and heels!

Us :)

And after waiting for what seemed like eternity, we are at Kim’s! Very interesting Korean restaurant because of the graffiti on the walls. Here’s a photo of Hubbie Chewy and me while the rest were busy scanning the menu!

_MG_6038

It was jaw dropping when the waiter started laying out the banchan (side dishes) on our tables. Because of our relatively large group size, we had two tables to ourselves. 12 side dishes for each table! How generous is that?! I think other Korean restaurants typically serve up to 6 or 8 sides. However, I heard that Kim’s serve a whole fish as banchan too! We didnt have it that day 🙁 Yup, and the guys had this hungry-cum-worried look on their faces when I promptly flashed my camera. Hence, one photo for 12 banchan. It was quite a spread – kimchi, sausages, potatoes, cucumber etc. And the sides can be replenished! Just ask nicely 🙂

_MG_6053

              Stir Fried Rice Cakes ($6)

We had two appetizers to be shared among ourselves. I’m so in love with stir fried rice cakes and I must order these whenever I step into a Korean eatery! Slightly spicy but extremely chewy! I love everything chewy 😛

_MG_6072

        Spring Onion Pancake ($12)

Another must-order dish is the spring onion pancake! This is very delicious and packed with crunchy vegetables. A crowd-pleaser that is easily gone in seconds.

_MG_6070

        Kimchi Fried Rice ($12)

I reckon that Kimchi fried rice is one of the easiest-to-cook Korean dishes. It probably takes only 15 minutes and requires very basic ingredients: kimchi, steamed rice and egg. Very simple but the outcome is a very flavorful and mouthwatering bowl of kimchi fried rice 🙂

_MG_6081

              Cheyuk Toppap ($15)

Two of our friends had the stir fried pork on rice. Looks like it has been strongly flavored with chili!

_MG_6085

        Seafood Soup with Noodle ($12)

As usual, I prefer noodles over rice. There were simply too many types of noodle dishes to choose from! Kinda pressurizing because everyone was done with their orders and the waiter was peering down on me :S Not only is Kim’s generous with their side dishes, my bowl of seafood noodle came with soup filled to the brim. The soup was a mix of sour and spicy, very addictive. The chock-full of seafood was too much for me to handle on my own!

_MG_6062

        Black Bean Paste Noodle ($12)

Looks like another fuss-free dish! Thick wheat-flour noodles with black bean paste! It’s actually the equivalent of the chinese zha jiang mian. This is something that I would try next time I visit Kim’s!

_MG_6059

        Spicy Cold Noodle ($12)

One of the guys ate the spicy cold noodle and had difficulty finishing it. It looks really really spicy, doesn’t it?! Anybody game to try this? 😛

_MG_6020com

Most of the mains are priced at about $12 to $15 which I would consider very affordable. Plus, there’s only 10% service charge! Cheap, cheap, cheap! And the 12 side dishes! Oh, I’m going back soon!
