Chocolate Ville: Most Romantic Place in Bangkok

_DIV9814

Hello everyone! I figured I need to finish up my Bangkok travelogues so here I am! I had many friends and followers asking me about Chocolate Ville when I posted IG stories during our trip so this post is for all of you who are keen to know more about this beautiful place! Some had asked if Chocolate Ville is located in Hua Hin and the answer is no. Chocolate Ville is also not exactly in Bangkok, but it is rather near Bangkok. Depending on traffic conditions, it would take about 30 to 45 minutes’ journey by car from Pratunam area.

_DIV9776

We had a private driver for our trip and since Chocolate Ville operates only from 4pm onwards, we got our driver to pick us up at around 3pm so that we would have ample time to walk around for photos before having dinner there.

_DIV9779

Being the unofficial planner for our trip, I had to find places that are suitable for all three generations. In one of my previous posts, I blogged about our day trip to Maeklong Railway Market which was not particularly well-received by the group. Good thing everyone liked Chocolate Ville because of the pretty and romantic European village theme which has a unique “Dining in the Park” concept.

_DIV9812

I mean honestly, who would have thought that such a place exists around Bangkok? It is so not Bangkok at all, if you know what I mean! And also, did I mention that admission is FREE?!

_DIV9784

Even my in laws could not resist having their photos taken with their grandchildren!

_DIV9797

There are many nice photo spots around Chocolate Ville so it is really important to arrive early to give yourself time for photos, as well as avoid the potential crowds that might start to stream in during dinner time. Also, the entire place is quite huge!

_DIV9800

_DIV9803

_DIV9805

_DIV9819

_DIV9821

I observed that the crowds came in at around 6ish even on a weekday but it could be that Chocolate Ville is a popular choice on Valentine’s Day (yup we visited on 14th Feb!). Heh not surprising at all since I reckon Chocolate Ville is the most romantic place in Bangkok!

_DIV9823

_DIV9824

_DIV9829

Besides arriving early to avoid the crowd, good and bright lighting makes your photos turn out really nicely!

_DIV9835

As with the rest of Bangkok, it was also a little hot and humid over at Chocolate Ville. I strongly recommend wearing light, breathable clothing there. Thankfully, my nursing dress from JumpEatCry is made of polyester material which is very soft and cooling to wear.

_DIV9850

I love that there are numerous bears of different shapes and sizes scattered around Chocolate Ville. This is one of my favorites!

Yup it happens. Just another unglam moment lol.

P2145303

I strongly advise that you make reservations if you are keen to dine at Chocolate Ville as the entire place gets filled up pretty quickly. I copied what everyone else did, which was to leave on Chocolate Ville’s Facebook page, a 5-star rating with a specific template:

Dear Chocolate Ville,
I would like to reserve a table for (number of) adults on (date)
Please find the details as below for your reference :
Guest name: XXX
Date: XXX
Time: XXX
Preference: non-smoking area, Riverside, and sunset view.

Thank you so much!
This is the first time we visit Chocolate Ville.
We’ve learned from friends recommendation that Chocolate Ville provides delicious food and nice scenery.
We hope we can have a great time in here.
We understand that you will cancel the booking without notification if we come late.
So that would be great if you can confirm the booking for us so that we can mark it down on our schedule.
Thanks a lot for your assistance in advance.
Have a nice day.
I hope to get your reply soon.
Thanks.

P2145305

The above is cute and funny but hey, it works. Someone from Chocolate Ville will confirm your reservation by providing a reply to your comment.

P2145309

As it is a central restaurant, the same food menu will be provided regardless of where you choose to dine in Chocolate Ville.

_DIV9899

I was feeling quite ravenous from all the walking around Chocolate Ville and managed to only take photos of half of what we had for dinner. The food was quite good and also reasonably priced. The menu features a good mix of Thai and Western food. Alcohol is strictly served only after 6pm.

Maeklong Railway Market near Bangkok

Untitled

Sawadee kaaa~ I’m gonna share a bit about our day trip to Maeklong Railway Market during our Bangkok trip. Wouldn’t say it was very successful because I think I was the only one in the group who was excited to visit this place. LOL. And because of that, we didn’t spend a lot of time at the market and I didn’t manage to snap many photos.

Untitled

Our private driver picked us up at our hotel early in the morning and the journey was a quite a long one. Took about 1 to 1.5 hours! Torturous if you travel with young children! Hahaha.

Untitled

I had given our driver the address of the place we wanted to have our breakfast at, and he led us the way by cutting through the market. It doesn’t look that bad in the photo but when there were 4 to 5 people trying to pass through at the same time, it was really squeezy and chaotic. Because of that, my in laws decided to sit this out after breakfast and offered to hold onto the kids while we explored on our own.

P2165361

We settled our breakfast at Gong Meng Chan Ba Mee Kiao where they offer what seems to be like our Singapore char siew wanton noodles. This place has been around for about 60 years and is filled with locals. Address is 638 Diamond Road, Samut Songkhram (Intersection of Phet Samut and Kasem Sukhum Alley).

P2165359

There is a choice of dry or soup Ba Mee Kiao. If you eat it just on its own, it’s probably gonna taste a little bland to you. There are condiments placed on each table which you can add to enhance the taste of your noodles. I was recovering from a bad throat so I only added some fish sauce but just a little did the trick!

P2165369

So it was just misterchewy and I who hurried off to take some photos while waiting for the train to pass through.

P2165366

P2165367

P2165368

As you can see, there were many tourists waiting around for the train.

P2165375

P2165376

Untitled

Untitled

Before the train arrived, all the stall owners retracted their umbrellas and some had to shift in their goods. Nobody was allowed to stand in the middle of the tracks for obvious reasons.

Untitled

The train was moving really slowly and everyone snapped away with their mobile phones and cameras.

Untitled

All of us held our breaths because the train was THIS close. I could even touch the train without having to fully extend my arm!

Here’s a video to prove it! It is such an eye opening experience that I urge everyone who is visiting Bangkok to take a day trip to Maeklong Railway Market! ๐Ÿ™‚

P2165372

Ok my next plan was to head over to Amphawa Floating Market since it is super near Maeklong Railway Market but my MIL wasn’t keen because the kids were starting to get cranky. I’m totally fine with it even though I painstakingly planned the entire itinerary, plus we had already travelled all the way from Bangkok city. Perhaps next time! Just me and misterchewy? LOL. Mandarin Oriental Bangkok Afternoon Tea Review

Untitled

To some Singaporeans, Bangkok is all about shopping, shopping and more shopping. Foodies like us value eating more than anything else. On the third day of our Bangkok trip, The Chewys had the luxury of sleeping in and subsequently took a Grab car to Mandarin Oriental Bangkok. We were staying at The Westin Grande Sukhumvit and the journey from our hotel took about 20 minutes due to a slight midday traffic jam.

Untitled

Thankfully, the girls were pretty well-behaved along our way there and upon reaching Mandarin Oriental, we were captivated by the beautiful and luxurious hotel interior.

P2155316

Overlooking the Chao Phraya river, the Authorsโ€™ Lounge at Mandarin Oriental is one of Bangkokโ€™s most photographed locations. It was originally an open roofed garden with a tortoise pond and since 1976, the Authors’ Lounge features a glass roof and is the place to enjoy afternoon tea. Over the last three centuries, many famous writers have stayed at the hotel and their photographs are showcased in the newly restored Authorsโ€™ Lounge. The ‘Heritage Authors’ Noรซl Coward, James Michener, Somerset Maugham and Joseph Conrad are now immortalised in four new private lounges.

Untitled

I am always cautious and want to avoid any disappointment when it comes to holiday planning, so I reserved a table for the four of us a couple of weeks before our trip. I booked the earliest slot for afternoon tea at 12pm and perhaps it was a weekday, we got to choose where we wanted to sit. What I didn’t like was that Mini misschewy started to whine because it was close to her nap time and one of the staff forewarned us that if Cayla continued to make noise, we would have to be moved to a table at a corner as it would disturb other (non-existent) guests. I mean young children are bound to laugh, cry or talk loudly. She could have ushered us to a corner table in the first place. It resulted in us jumping up every time one of the girls let out any form of sound exceeding 60 to 75 decibels and we had to constantly shush them. LOLOLOL.

MO BKK high tea menu

Moving on..! The Author’s Lounge offers three types of afternoon tea sets. If you are a vegetarian, there’s something for you! Apart from that, there is a choice of Western Afternoon Tea Set and The Oriental Afternoon Tea Set. If you are dining alone, I would definitely recommend that you go for the Oriental set where the items are traditionally Thai. Dining with friends? Then you should have the best of both worlds! Each set costs เธฟ1450++ per person and is inclusive of free flow tea of coffee.

Untitled

My choice of tea: Pink Garden TeaRegal garden roses accent this green tea blended with notes of Provencal red fruits. A blooming bouquet as blissful as a summer day.

His choice of tea (without even having to look at the menu): Moroccan Mint TeaA great favourite, this fine TWG Tea green tea is perfectly blended with suave and strong Sahara mint. A timeless classic.

Untitled

We didn’t have to wait long for both the afternoon tea sets to be served. Yaaay! And look! So Instagram-worthy!

Untitled

Little Tai Tais in training ๐Ÿ˜›

Untitled

I love the use of ceramic tiered tiffin to present the oriental set! Traditional with a touch of class.

Untitled

We really enjoyed The Oriental Afternoon Tea Set. Most of our favorites were the savory food items such as:

– Lime-marinated crabmeat sandwich with lemongrass and chilli
– Minced chicken, chilli and black olive sandwich
– Roasted pandan chicken
– Steamed Thai dumplings

From the selection of pastries, these were pretty unforgettable:

– Kanom Sai Sai, sweet coconut pudding wrapped in banana leaf
– Steamed pumpkin custard
– Mango tartlet with vanilla cream
– Candy bale fruit chiffon cake

Untitled

We were impressed by the Oriental set but that doesn’t mean we paid any less attention to the Western Afternoon Tea Set.

Here are some of the finger sandwiches that we reckon are worthy of mention:

– Green asparagus dips in clear tomato aspic on white sour dough bread
– Smoked ham, sun dried tomato and honeydew melon
– Open-faced smoked salmon, sour cream and beetroot sandwich
– Cucumber, dill and cream cheese on oat bread

Apart from the chocolate desserts, these were quite nice and refreshing:

– Minted light cream and strawberry sphere
– Vanilla yoghurt cream, streusel and pineapple chutney

Burger and Lobster Bangkok Review

Untitled

Gonna kick-start our series of Bangkok travel posts with our experience at Burger and Lobster! It got quite a number of my friends and followers excited when I posted IG stories while dining there during our CNY trip. Likewise for me, I only knew about Burger and Lobster Bangkok when I chanced upon a photo that my friend had uploaded to her Instagram account and I had to text her to double confirm that there IS a Burger and Lobster in the Land of Smiles. LOL!

Untitled

So yup, according to a few online sources, Burger and Lobster was supposed to open in March 2017 but there were some delays and it finally opened its doors in September, a good five months later. I guess it is always a wise decision to wait till you are ready! Located at Gaysorn Plaza, just across Erawan Shrine, the nearest BTS station would be Chit Lom. From Chit Lom BTS station, it is just a short two-minute walk to Gaysorn Plaza.

Untitled

The food menu is conveniently categorised into Starters, Burgers, Lobsters, Rolls, Sides and Sauces. Nobody in our group opted for burger as a main.

Untitled

Untitled

P2145250

Naturally, the camera gets to eat first.

Untitled

A group shot before our lobster feast. Oh yes, since we were a large group, I made reservations via email and was allocated this huge round table. My MIL likes it because in a way, it symbolises ๅ›ขๅœ†.

P2145258

I chose Over The Moon (เธฟ390) because this combination of Beefeater Gin, strawberry, Pimms, rose, cucumber, lemon, fizz sounds delish and I was right!

P2145266

Not sure who ordered the Truffle Fries (เธฟ290) but it was a bad decision because all our mains came with a large serving of fries! LOL. Major fries overload! I didn’t touch any of it but I think anything with truffle should be good.

P2145264

The Lobster Mac N Cheese (เธฟ350) was really comfort food with chunks of lobster meat and macaroni generously coated with melted cheese.

P2145269

The Lobster Croquettes (เธฟ350) were also a hit among all of us. Be sure to eat it with the spicy dip sauce that comes with it!

P2145247

Besides the Original Roll (เธฟ1500), there are Avocado Roll (เธฟ950) and Chilli Roll (เธฟ950) too. If it’s your first time dining at Burger and Lobster, I would definitely recommend trying the Original Roll for it is a true Burger and Lobster classic of chilled lobster meat dressed in a smooth lemony Japanese mayo.

P2145249

If you think you might be missing out on a lot since it’s chunks of lobster meat as compared to a whole lobster, fret not. The toasted brioche roll is actually filled with generous chunks of meat to make this a truly satisfying meal.

P2145252

If you can’t do without chilli, Burger and Lobster offers Chilli Lobster (เธฟ1850) on their menu. The lobster is first steamed and then served in a hot clay pot smothered with an aromatic chilli sauce that has been prepared in-house. You have a choice of rice or warm toasted brioche to go with your chilli lobster.

P2145255

The most expensive item on the menu, the B&L Thermidor (เธฟ2100) is served as a whole lobster cooked in herbed veloutรฉ and mushroom sauce, topped with a cheesy crust. If you like strong-tasting foods, you will definitely enjoy this feast.

P2145261

The three ladies ordered the Original Lobster (เธฟ1500), with a choice of steamed or grilled lobster. We went for the steamed lobsters as we felt that it was the best way to taste the freshness of the lobster and indulge in its succulent meat. I really liked the B&Lโ€™s famous lemon and garlic butter sauce which was addictive!

P2145271

Oh man, I’m missing this already.

The Chewys’ Family Trip to Bangkok Day 5: Victory Monument Thai Boat Noodles and Home Sweet Home!

P7310564

YOOHOO! We have finally come to our last day in Bangkok! When we booked our stay at Aloft Bangkok hotel, we didn’t know that the buffet breakfast is only for one. On the day we checked in, we were asked if we wanted to top up so that both misterchewy and I could both enjoy the breakfast. I rejected the offer because there is simply too much food to try in Bangkok, why confine ourselves to hotel breakfast everyday? Every morning, the hubs would eat a bit at the hotel since we already paid for it, while I shower Little misschewy in our room.

P7310565

So here are some photos taken by the husband, showcasing some of the breakfast food available at Aloft Bangkok hotel.

Since our flight was around 3pm, we had a bit of time to do some last minute shopping at MBK Shopping Centre. Didn’t buy much for ourselves, just some cute magnets for our family and friends. Lunch was supposed to be at HERO Food and Gathering since it’s near our hotel but I know the hubs missed eating the Thai boat noodles that we had back in 2012 at Victory Monument. So I suggested taking a cab there instead.

P8010866

Nothing much has changed and we sat at the exact same table where we sat three years ago, this time with a big baby in my arms. LOL.

P8010868

P8010867

P8010870

Not sure if the photobomb was intentional but oh wells.. Haha.

P8010880

We don’t take beef so we had the Noodles Thicken Soup with Pork (THB 12). Every mouthful was SO SO SO GOOD. The broth had been thickened and made more flavorful with pork blood. Noodles were thin and springy and the pork balls were full of bite.

P8010882

It really isn’t easy eating while babywearing so you gotta be quick. Aim, kiap, and shove into mouth. LOL.

P8010885

We ate a total of 12 bowls of boat noodles. Definitely could have stomached more but we didn’t wanna go overboard with ordering.

P8010889

Rushed back to our hotel to do some last minute packing and it was time to check out! Booked a cab to the airport with the help of the GrabTaxi app.

The Chewys’ Family Trip to Bangkok Day Four: Art in Paradise Museum, Unicorn Cafe, Alpaca View Farm & Cuisine and Chatuchak Weekend Market

IMG_4875

Sawadee ka~~! I realized I made a mistake in my previous blog post. This isn’t my final update on our Bangkok trip because there’s still the last day of our trip but it’s gonna be a short and sweet concluding post, I promise! It was my birthday on our fourth day in Bangkok so needless to say, I was the Queen for the day! Lololol. We were dressed in my favorite colors, white and light blue! ๐Ÿ˜€ Here’s a quick wefie before we head out for the day! Wheeee!

As we were early for our visit to Art in Paradise, we went for breakfast at PunThai Coffee at a shopping centre nearby.

P7310581

My Kurobuta Pork rice was fragrant and slightly spicy. However, the portion was too tiny!

P7310625

Blogged about Art in Paradise museum separately because there are just too many photos to share. If you are keen, you may click here to read more about our experience!

P7310782

After endless posing for shots at Art in Paradise museum, we took a cab to Unicorn Cafe! It’s the only place that I shortlisted for my birthday cake!

P7310749

Simply love the interior of Unicorn Cafe!

P7310776

P7310777

P7310748

This would be the ideal sofa set for our new home! My favorite shade of blue!

Thanks to Little misschewy’s godma’s recommendation, we specially made a trip to Alpaca View Farm and Cuisine at Ladprao. The place is situated up north, quite close to Chatukchak I would say. If you wanna head there, plan these two places within the same day yeah!

The Chewysโ€™ Family Trip to Bangkok Day Three: Karmakamet Diner, Kidzoona & Molly Fantasy, Eat Rice & Noodles, Talad Rot Fai Srinakarin Train Market

P7300331

Hellooo everybardy! Did anyone miss me? Hehehe. We moved into our new place a few weeks ago and were extremely busy handling almost everything on our own, with some help from both our parents. We are still trying to adapt to our new lifestyle! This also explains why we went MIA for a week. Haha sorry for the lack of updates! Can finally continue sharing our Bangkok itinerary with you guys. Thanks for being so patient! ๐Ÿ™‚

IMG_4840

Us on our third day in Bangkok! Every morning we would take the complimentary tuk tuk service by Aloft Bangkok hotel to Nana BTS station!

P7300373

I planned our brunch at Karmakamet Diner. The place wasn’t too hard for us to find, with the help of Google maps of course. We reached slightly before 10am and had to sit outside for a bit before being ushered to a table. Upon stepping into Karmakamet Diner, I was blown away by its rustic charm.

P7300372

P7300386

The outdoor setting totally has this dreamy feel to it.

P7300342

Haha but we didn’t want to be bitten by mozzies so we chose to sit indoors. Bangkok is really not a child-friendly country. There wasn’t a single cafe or restaurant we went to that had baby chairs. Luckily I did my homework by emailing or sending messages on FB to ask the F&B establishments on my list whether they provide baby chairs. To my horror, NONE. A kind mummy friend from my March edd group lent us her orange Sack’n Seat!

P7300345

The Sack’n Seat acts like a portable high chair. Simply attach it to any chair with a backrest and your child will be securely restrained in his/her seat once the straps are fastened. Until he/she attempts to climb out of it of course.

P7300352

P7300367

P7300360

I chose the Poached Duck Eggs with Gravlax on Karmakamet Ratatouille (THB 290) because it sounded promising but I was disappointed by its pathetic appearance. Taste wise, it was only mediocre.

P7300363

P7300358

When misterchewy’s Salmon Pattie Egg Benedict (THB 320) arrived, I immediately congratulated him on his choice. LOL. Why standard so different one?! This is like breakfast sent from heaven!

P7300356

I think misterchewy must have sensed my jealousy, so he offered me some of his egg benedict. It was seriously good that I started to push away my poached duck eggs. Hahaha.

P7300368

P7300371-001

P7300378

Huge ass cotton candy bigger than my face! Ok it’s actually called Strawberry in the Cloud (THB 390) and you have to wait at least 15 minutes if you order this. It’s super Instagram worthy and we ordered this mainly for photos ๐Ÿ˜›

P7300374

Our cotton candy came in beautiful hues of pink and blue. We were busy eating it until…

P7300384

One of the wait staff told us that there’s something underneath! LOL.

P7300399

Karmakamet Diner is like the perfect place for some portrait shots!

P7300449

After brunch, we headed to Ekamai Gateway Mall where Molly Fantasy & Kidzoona indoor playground is located. I had blogged about this separately and you may click here if you are keen to read more about it ๐Ÿ™‚

P7300525

Lunch was at EAT Rice & Noodles, by the same boss who set up EAT (Eat All Thai). Over here, we got to savor traditional Thai food with a modern take.

Since it was still quite early, we returned to our hotel to rest and recharge before heading out again to check out Talad Rot Fai night market. We took the BTS to On Nut and hailed a cab from there. We are not sure why but many shops were not open that day, which was a pity.

P7300537

Really cheap and good! They tasted way better than the ones we bought at the Thai airport in 2012.

P7300545

Out of curiosity, we bought a box of Egg Fried Squid to try on the spot.

P7300550

OMG let me tell you that it is seriously DAMN GOOD.

After we were done eating, we bought another box to bring back to our hotel for supper.

The Chewys’ Family Trip to Bangkok Day One: Aloft Bangkok Sukhumvit 11 & Sukhumvit Soi 38 Street Food

P7280018

Hellooo chewys! I wanted to blog about our Bangkok trip earlier while it was still fresh in my mind but unfortunately, the bombing took place at Erawan Shrine shortly after we got back and I thought it wasn’t such an appropriate time to share our travelogue so I decided to delay it for a bit. As I had mentioned briefly in my previous posts, this trip’s agenda was to celebrate our 5th dating anniversary as well as my birthday! I never had a birthday trip before so I was rather excited even though I had been to BKK a few times. Hehehe ๐Ÿ˜›

P7280001

We booked an afternoon flight so that it wouldn’t be so rushed for us. With a little one around, be prepared to spend at least twice the amount of time than you normally would. We used to take about an hour at least before we could head out of the house but now we need to wake up extra early to start preparing! I’m also quite paranoid when it comes to packing because baby’s stuff are usually necessities. If I could say so myself, I think I almost brought the whole house to BKK. LOL XD

P7280011

Much love to Changi Recommends for lending us one of their overseas Wi-Fi router. The Changi Recommends booths are located in all 3 terminals and are open 24/7. It was very convenient for us as we only had to pick up the Wi-Fi device after checking in our luggages. That saves us on delivery charges! Upon your return, simply return the device by dropping it off at the Changi Recommends booth at your arrival terminal. Now that’s hassle-free! The last thing you would want is to fret over the collection and returning of your Wi-Fi device, so I’m really glad that Changi Airport Group established this subsidiary in 2012 to save travellers all the unnecessary trouble while providing affordable internet access to keep us connected during our trips.

P7280006

A shot with Little misschewy’s favorite durian before we wave goodbye to my in-laws!

P7280022

Our third family trip this year! We travelled to Phuket in January and Hong Kong in March ๐Ÿ™‚

P7280028

A wefie before take off! I’m not sure if the monkey face by Little misschewy was intentional but I’m posting it up anyway!

P7280029

P7280035

I don’t know about you but I love plane food! Somehow, plane food makes me really happyyy! This was some fish spaghetti and it was quite good!

P7280042

But we couldn’t really eat in peace with an active toddler who refuses to stay in her seat.

P7280043

The hubs Tula-ed her and walked up and down the aisle a couple of times and she finally conked out. Zzz.. I think misterchewy looked sleepy too. Hey, nobody said parenthood would be easy ๐Ÿ˜‰

P7280049

Sawadee ka~ Welcome to the Land of Smiles! ๐Ÿ˜€

P7280052

We were desperately trying to hire a cab using the Grab Taxi app but to no avail. I guess the airport is too huge and the drivers ended up waiting elsewhere even though I had typed out the exact location where we were standing. Some drivers called but there was a communication breakdown and we were like argh ok nevermind forget it. Wasted my overseas call money! Lol. In the end, we decided to try our luck and went downstairs. Ahlamak! Should have just come here earlier la! Just get a printout from the machine and there will be a taxi car plate number stated on it. Plenty of taxi drivers waiting there!

P8010888

A few hours without Internet connectivity made me feel uneasy so I switched on our Wi-Fi router as soon as we touched down. The hubs benefited from this as well since the router is able to connect up to 8 devices simultaneously. If it wasn’t for this router, I couldn’t have posted so many photos during our trip on my Instagram and Facebook page ๐Ÿ˜›

P8010856

Because of the traffic jam, it took us almost an hour to reach our choice of accommodation, Aloft Bangkok Sukhumvit 11, which is one of the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) properties. Hotel accommodation in Bangkok is fairly affordable across the board. We went ahead with Aloft because we could earn Starpoints and the hotel rates were really attractive. Plus, the hotel is located quite near Nana BTS Station, which is a pretty centralized location.

P7300527

Aloft Hotel also provides complimentary tuk tuk service to and from Nana BTS station.

P8010890

Aloft hotel has this very cool and artsy fartsy vibe which I think most youngsters would appreciate. Lol.

P7280068

Our Aloft Room spans about 30 to 33 square meters – plenty of space for Little misschewy to roam around even with a playpen in the room. I love the layout of the room and also the idea of waking up to a nice view of the city upon waking up.

P7280055

Our ultra-comfortable platform bed was topped with plush bedding.

P7280077

P7280072

P7280075

P7280076

P7280061

IMG_4639

The bathroom is also very spacious. There is a sliding door to separate the walk-in shower from the vanity sink.

P7280056

In case you are wondering, that’s a bottle sterilizer which we requested from the hotel.

P7280059

P7280065

The floor can be very slippery for toddlers so please request for a baby bath tub!

P7280066

P7280071

The view from our room.

P7280078

Hahaha failed wefie with the bubs because she just didn’t want to sit still on my lap even for 3 seconds.

IMG_4658

I actually planned to go to HERO Food & Gathering for dinner but misterchewy, being a fuddy duddy, was more keen to check out Sukhumvit Soi 38. I mean most guys should be quite thrilled to be eating in a restaurant full of Marvel superheroes right? So Sukhumvit Soi 38 it was. We took a cab and it was a huge mistake because the jam was horrendous. Should have taken the BTS instead.

P7280081

We found it strange that there were only a few stalls there. Little did we know that Sukhumvit Soi 38 was closing down and most stalls had relocated elsewhere.

P7280080

We walked all the way to the end and started with the wanton noodle stall. This was not bad but the slices of char siew were pretty good stuff.

P7280083

P7280087

The phad thai was so damn good that we had to resist ordering another plate in order to save space to try other food.

P7280093

We saw this stall selling sticks of meat and seafood. Basically, you pick out the sticks that you want and someone will barbecue the food for you. We tabao-ed some back for our supper.

P7280094

P7280096

P7280098

P7280092

Wanted to try more food but the little one was cranky already. Settled our dessert before heading back to our hotel.

P7280091

The mango sticky rice was amazing! Very sweet and juicy mangoes and the glutinous rice was wonderfully soft and chewy.

That’s all for our first day in Bangkok! Keep a lookout for day two!

Krabi: Ao Nang

page

Looking back on my short trip at Krabi, I can’t help but feel a slight tinge of disappointment because the weather was the opposite of what we had expected or rather, prayed for. The skies were gloomy, accompanied by occasional bouts of rain. And when it rains, it disrupts whatever plans you have set out for the trip. Basically, our first day at Ao Nang (after our stay at Phi Phi) was wasted hiding indoors and by the time the rain had stopped, it was far too late to sign up for any day tours. The second day was marvelous except that it rained during our third dive. -___-

DSC03185com

Most of the bustling activities happen along the main street at Ao Nang. It is an extremely long street and you wouldn’t have any problems navigating because all you need to do is just walk up and down the street. We passed by about 3 or 4 such stalls. They actually converted a simple motorbike into a mobile stall. Now just how cool is that?

DSC03187com

There are no tables, save for a few plastic chairs placed near the stall. PR and I were close to drooling at the pancakes that others were eating and decided to share one. We took quite a while to decide because all the choices for the pancakes are just as awesome as the next.

DSC03189com

We finally settled for a Banana & Cheese Pancake (30 baht ~ $1.30) which I still think is a pretty weird combi :X Haha it’s just like eating goreng pisang with hot melted cheese. Sweet and salty at the same time! Under the crispy pancake layer lies soft pulpous banana. Not bad not bad.. On hindsight, we should have eaten it on the spot when it’s still hot instead of opting for takeaway.

DSC03200com

I was really excited when we passed by Wanna’s Place while trying to hide from the rain on the first day. I read about this place in one of the guide books that I managed to get my hands on. PR and I made plans to come here the following night because we wanna have dinner at Wanna’s Place! Oops sorry I can’t help myself ๐Ÿ˜›

DSC03190com

Wanna’s is on the front at Ao Nang beach and is very conveniently located. I don’t think anyone will be able to miss it. The menu is very extensive and not only do they serve Thai cuisine, there is Swiss food (200 to 300 baht ~ $8.50 to $13) too! And oh, one look at the breakfast menu can make your mouth water.

DSC03191com

As usual, we took quite long to decide because there are no pictures in the menu. The Fried chicken with basil on rice (very spicy) (80 baht ~ $3.50) was one of our choices for that night because of the words very spicy. I love all my friends who can stomach spicy food. Haha! Yes we did taste a bit of spiciness but it wasn’t spicy enough to leave us gasping for iced water. One thing we noticed throughout our stay in Krabi is that the meat served is always in small chopped up bits. You can choose to replace the chicken with beef (for those who love your beef you know who you are!) or shrimps ๐Ÿ˜‰

DSC03193com

It is unbelieveable but we only had our first Tom Yam Seafood soup (spicy) (110 baht ~ $4.80 includes rice) towards the end of our trip! Last dinner at Krabi to be exact. Although the soup is supposed to be just spicy, it was spicier (more spicy?) than the chicken and it definitely packed a punch. They were very generous with the seafood too!

DSC03194com

I guess it’s really true that the seafood at Krabi is extremely cheap. Too bad there were just the two of us, if not we would have hopped over to the open air seafood eatery across the street. The Fish in Lemon boiled (spicy) (120 baht ~ $5.20 includes rice) is very fresh. The fact that it was a little sour and spicy gave it a nice twist.

DSC03196-horz

I highly recommend Wanna’s Place if you are going to Krabi, Ao Nang!

DSC03237co

Before transferring to the airport, we had brunch at The Massaman Restaurant & Bar which was about a 15 minute walk from Krabi Apartment, the place where we stayed.

DSC03233com

Very small and simple eatery. This place offers breakfast too. Guess what I had?

DSC03236com

Phad Thai!! What else?! I cannot remember the price for this one but it was around 80 baht ~ $3.50 max. I just couldn’t get enough of Phad Thai. In fact, I miss eating it very much! It is kinda like our Singapore version of Char Kway Teow except that it is not as oily and sinful. Ok maybe I’m just trying to comfort myself. Hehe.. ๐Ÿ˜›

DSC03228com

This is also my last Coconut drink (40 baht ~ $1.70) which is twice the price of what you can get at the roadside drink stalls. The service is really good too. The uncle will offer to chop open the coconut once you are done so that you can eat the cool coconut flesh ๐Ÿ™‚

Krabi: Koh Phi Phi

page

After a bit of procrastination, I have decided to post some photos from my recent Krabi trip! I stayed 2 nights at Phi Phi island and another 2 nights at Ao Nang. Phi Phi is relatively small and you can explore the entire place by foot. There are rows and rows of shops selling pretty much the same things and you can easily find cheap accommodation too.

DSC02775com

After a total of about 5 hours on the plane and ferry, my travel partner, PR and I were tired and famished. After walking around a bit, our first lunch stop was at The Pizza Corner because it was situated by the beach and we wanted a good view ๐Ÿ™‚ Too bad, the service was really wols and we finished our drinks while waiting for our food.

DSC02772com

Yay! After waiting and waiting and waiting.. ๐Ÿ˜› I find that whenever I’m in a foreign country, it’s quite difficult to decide on what to eat because I wanna try something which cannot be found here in Singapore. But everything looks the same in the menu, I really cannot differentiate one from the other.

DSC02768com

Don’t laugh at me but in the end I ordered something that sounds boring, Noodle Soup with Chicken (80 baht ~ $3.50). Luckily, everything about it was awesome! From the delicious piping hot soup, to the silky smooth glass noodles. I’m a happy girl ๐Ÿ˜€

DSC02767com

PR claimed that she wasn’t feeling hungry and proceeded to order the Chicken Burger with Fries (70 baht ~ $3) which puzzled me quite a bit. Burgers are supposed to be very filling right? Plus this burger is just huge.

DSC02770com

The chicken fillet was crispy, albeit a little too salty for PR’s liking. I didn’t understand why she ordered a western dish in Thailand though. Comfort food I suppose?

DSC02774com

And here’s the funny part. PR asked for chilli sauce to go with her burger and the waitress came back 5 minutes later.. “Here’s your chilli and sauce”. Hahaha!

DSC02951-horz

This is where PR and I had our dinner. We figured that Pum Thai Restaurant & Cooking School is the best place to go to if we wanted authentic Thai cuisine. Pum emphasises simplicity, and even claims that they have simplified simplicity. Their dishes are based on traditional Thai cuisine adapted for a modern, fast paced world. The plus point was that Pum is also a cooking school. That in itself is testimony to good authentic Thai food! ๐Ÿ™‚

DSC02955com

Maybe it’s just me but I have always thought that lemongrass is only used to cook tomyam soup or stir fried with other vegetables. So when I saw the Nam Takrai (69 baht ~ $3) or Iced Lemongrass Drink, I just had to order it. It’s actually quite tasteless, just fragrant and refreshing.

DSC02960com

Yup noodles again! The Phad Siewe (109 baht ~ $4.70) is lightly stir fried in sweet soy sauce. It was also a little spicy and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Anyway, I still can’t figure out the difference between this and Phad Thai. All other noodles dishes that I tried in Krabi are more or less the same! Can someone enlighten me on this? ๐Ÿ™‚

DSC02850-horz

On our way back to our room at Kinnaree House, we stopped by Pirates House for a nightcap. Very interesting theme for a restaurant! A pity the waiters weren’t dressed as Jack Sparrow.

IMG_2708com

Credits to PR. Didn’t know that she took a photo of me taking a photo of my drink ๐Ÿ˜›

DSC02854com

Always my safest choice, Lime Margarita. Oops! Forgot to take down the prices. Heh..

DSC02856com

PR’s Pirate’s Blood. Ooh scary. The paper umbrella reminds me of my childhood days!

DSC02877com

Went diving with Princess Divers the next day! Bimbotic name but I like. ๐Ÿ˜›

DSC02912com

See how much I love noodles? We were given a menu when we booked our dives the day before and I chose Phad Thai! This was with chicken to be exact. Phad Thai can also be served with beef, seafood and pork.

IMG_2756com

That’s all for Koh Phi Phi at Krabi! Next up, Ao Nang! ๐Ÿ˜‰
