Mother’s Day Celebration 2015

image3

I can’t believe that misterchewy and I were pretty sure all along that we didn’t celebrate Mother’s Day last year. Of course, the best way to confirm is to search through my blog and it turns out that we DID celebrate by sneaking out for a nice dinner at Takumi Toyko. In my blog post, I also mentioned that we will include Little misschewy in our celebration this year but we left her at home with my mil. The hubs told me that he had planned a Mother’s Day itinerary for me and I had to take a day off work on Friday.

image2

We travelled from the East to Holland Village as misterchewy said he felt like having brunch at D’Good Cafe. However, it started to pour and it was impossible to get there without being drenched, so we settled for Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe. It was during lunch that the hubs revealed that he signed us up for a cooking class at Shermay’s Cooking School just across the street! We have known each other for almost 5 years now and I have never once whipped up anything for him. When we got there, we realized that it was a cooking demonstration, much to our horror. I felt kinda mad because I wasn’t prepared to sit through 3 hours just watching the chef cook up a storm.

image5-tile

Thank goodness Chef Christopher Tan was very entertaining and we enjoyed the cooking demonstration! The particular class we attended was “A Peranakan in Paris” and these were the four dishes that we had the pleasure of watching him prepare – Couscous Ulam, Chicken Curry in ‘French Loaves’, Potato ‘Lodeh’ Gratin and Sago & Coconut Cremeux with Caramelized Pineapple.

image9

All the dishes were splendid and mouthwatering! But of course, I confirm cannot replicate as these are way too high level for me. LOL.

A32A6440

After the class ended, we headed off to our dinner venue, which was also a surprise. Like last year, we had Japanese cuisine again but this time, it was at Aoki Restaurant by the Les Amis group! I had wanted to visit Aoki for the longest time! On the overall, service was alright but food was exemplary. The hubs wanted to try the Bara Chirashi (I think) but it was sold out. Nevermind, we shall swing by for lunch next time!

Little Misschewy Had a Farm First Birthday Party!

IMG_5735

It has been almost a month since I received the photographs taken at Chanelle’s One Year Old Birthday Party in March! Over the years, I had been bombarded with photos of children’s birthday parties on Facebook and finally, it’s my turn! LOL. I was really excited when it came to the planning stage and it didn’t take me very long to decide on the theme, which was Little Misschewy Had a Farm, inspired by the classic nursery rhyme! I specially chose this because it was the first nursery rhyme my mum sang to Chanelle and she ALWAYS sings this. The party was held at one of the garden bungalows at Aloha Loyang. It’s very spacious, with a living room, kitchen and 4 bedrooms. However, I wouldn’t really recommend it for parties because the living room is not air-conditioned.

I also bought a photo prop but someone chucked it in a corner and we totally forgot about it until the party was about to end and many people had left already.

The hubby and I were on leave the next two days and that was how we celebrated Chanelle’s birthday in advance, in addition to her birthday trip to Hong Kong that week! More on that in separate blog posts! In the meantime, stay connected with us on Facebook www.facebook.com/missuschewy and on Instagram @missuschewy and @misterchewy 🙂

The Chewys’ Hong Kong Trip Video!

During our recent trip to Hong Kong, we took some videos just for the fun of it and decided to compile the snippets together to depict our entire vacation! Both misterchewy and I don’t have any prior experience with video editing and stuff, so it took us quite a while to figure things out. Hehehe please bear with us because we know that this video is very amateurish but we reckon it’s a nice change to be able to document our trip in a different manner. Having said that, do look out for the photos that we will still be posting on this space soon!

Recently I was invited to try a website called ShopBack, which is a cashback website that gives you rebates for buying through them. When you buy through their website, they get commission from the brands, which they split with you as cash rebates! It’s pretty useful because they have websites like Expedia and Agoda, which means I can get cashback rebates for hotels or flights next time. Enjoy and happy hump day! 🙂

Chanelle’s First Lunar Birthday Celebration

A32A6216

Hello chewys! The hubs and I took leave from work on Monday because it was Little misschewy’s first lunar birthday! It didn’t feel very long ago when we celebrated her lunar 4th month by letting her lick a chicken drumstick, etc. You can read about it here and also compare how much she has grown! First things first, we helped Chanelle put on a pair of new shoes before letting her step on two giant ang ku kuehs. The Chinese believe that this ensures a smooth journey in life.

A32A6249

A32A6251

A32A6255

This is not just for first lunar birthday. In fact, my family has this tradition of eating mee swa with hard boiled egg on the day of our lunar birthday every year.

A32A6263

Candid moment caught on camera by misterchewy. Hehe.

A32A6266

A32A6221

And now, for the fun part! Apparently, Zhua Zhou (抓周) is one of the most important traditional customs on a child’s first lunar birthday in China, which supposedly helps to predict his/her future, depending on the item picked. Here are the items we laid out: Ruler, Chicken drumstick, Seal, Book, Dollar note, Calculator and Stethoscope.

A32A6224

Chanelle went straight for the dollar note and she couldn’t quite make up her mind as she picked up other items as well.

A32A6232

She finally settled for the calculator!

A32A6282

According to Chinese traditions, baby’s maternal grandmother is supposed to give the child a pair of shoes. So here’s a very lovely pair of Melissa shoes from my mum to Chanelle.

Check out the short video that we made for Chanelle’s first lunar birthday celebration! Enjoy! 😀

Bebe en Blanc Mini Gathering for Eastie Mummies and Babies

IMG_7580

Happy mid week everyone! Sorry for the lack of updates because I simply have no energy to blog lately. Work is kinda crazy and I have been sleeping really early these days. As I had mentioned before, I joined this particular mummies group on FB and because there are too many of us, we further split ourselves up into zones depending on our residential areas. Back in August, we had a mini gathering for the Eastie mummies and babies! The theme was Bebe en Blanc and babies had to be dressed in white. Hehe! All photos in this post were taken by one of the photographers from Lumiere Photography, which our kind host Christine hired and paid for. Thanks Chris! 🙂

IMG_7602

That’s my hand supporting Little misschewy because she couldn’t sit up well at that time. Anyway I love all the photos taken by the photographer but I selected those that I like best to be featured in this blog post. Hope I didn’t miss out on any of our adorable babies!

Art of Love

Wassup everyone! I had a super duper fun filled long weekend at Trick Eye Museum Singapore at Resorts World Sentosa! Chanelle’s First Play Date

IMG_4666

I applied leave yesterday quite some time ago and over the weekend, I felt like doing something different with Little misschewy. To put things simply, I wanted to get out of the house! Since Chanelle has started to develop social awareness, I thought it would be good to allow her to interact with other babies around her age. I mentioned previously that I joined the March 2014 EDD mummies group on Facebook and I remember that there is a fellow mummy who is a SAHM and stays very near my in laws’ place. So, I dropped her a text and asked if she was keen on a play date and if we could go over to her place because I don’t have a play mat, yet. Mummy Fiona very kindly agreed and we also asked Mummy Jasmine to join in! 🙂

IMG_4665

I probably didn’t give Chanelle sufficient time to get used to the new environment before letting her lie on the play mat together with Natalie and Joash. Poor girl was a little frightened by the unfamiliar faces around her, looked at me with a frown and started to wail before I could quickly pick her up to comfort her. After her milk, she was all smiles and babbling away endlessly!

IMG_4667

Even though the babies were too young to know how to play with one another, I felt that it was a very good experience for me and Chanelle.

Ah Yat Abalone Forum Restaurant: Family Dinner Before Misterchewy Travels to USA

The Chewys at Changi Airport 24 Jul 2014

Yesterday, we sent misterchewy off in the wee hours of the morning. He will be in working America for two weeks! Chanelle was sleeping when we plucked her out of bed at around 3am. She woke up with a very puzzled look and was surprisingly very well behaved throughout! It was a very sad moment for me to see misterchewy walking towards the departure gate and my tears started rolling down my cheeks :'( It’s gonna be our first time being apart for so long after 5 years together. Speaking of which, it’s our 5th year dating anniversary tomorrow! 🙂

_MG_3147

A week before his work trip, both our families had dinner together at Ah Yat Abalone Forum Restaurant at Hotel Grand Pacific. All photos were taken by misterchewy! The food was generally quite good. Sorry no time to go into detail!

Paradise Pavilion: Best Peking Duck in Singapore

_MG_3134

When we celebrated my dad’s birthday at The Fullerton Hotel’s Town Restaurant last year, I was still in the early stage of my pregnancy. I remembered that my mum actually said , “This time next year, there will be a little baby to celebrate together with us!” 🙂 This year’s celebration sure feels a lot happier than the last with Baby Chanelle around!

_MG_3023

My mum did her own research by reading up on food blogs and finally decided on Paradise Pavilion under the Paradise Group, located at Marina Bay Financial Centre. I fell in love with the sophisticated contemporary setting upon stepping into the restaurant.

_MG_3026

It has this very posh yet cosy feeling.

_MG_3030

Diners will be able to marvel at the Peking duck chefs executing their craft in full view. The fire brick oven had been constructed in a traditional fashion with imported materials from Beijing. Apple wood is used for roasting of the Peking duck which further accentuates its full flavour and fragrance.

_MG_3040

To start the dinner, we each had a very yummy appetizer of crab meat with a hint of wasabi.

_MG_3044

A hearty bowl of Double Boiled Chicken with Morel Mushroom Soup ($12) to warm the tummy!

_MG_3045

One of my favorites that night, the Fillet Cod with Miso Sauce ($18) was firm and flaky, topped with delicious miso sauce that was sweet yet savoury.

_MG_3057

I was looking forward to trying the Kurobuta in Garlic Sauce ($16) but felt that the sauce was a little too overwhelming and covered up the taste of the kurobuta. On a more positive note, the meat was really tender.

_MG_3051

Paradise Pavilion is renowned for its Authentic Apple Wood Roasted Peking Duck ($88) which is arguably the best peking duck in Singapore. Please bear in mind that reservations are required. It is served straight out of the oven and is carved deftly before diners.

_MG_3059-horz

The duck’s breast skin is the fattiest and crispiest part. It is served separately as thin slices and best enjoyed on its own or with a dab of sugar.

_MG_3061

_MG_3066

The rest of the sliced duck meat was wrapped in rice flour sheet which was kinda thick so I ended up eating the tender duck meat on its own!

_MG_3097

The Ramen with Lobster in XO Sauce ($28) certainly wowed all of us. The lobster was the size of my palm! Ramen was actually like ee-fu noodles and had a spicy kick to it.

_MG_3072

Little misschewy was sleeping in her pram while we were busy eating and when she woke up, she was all smiles 🙂

_MG_3082

We were lucky enough to catch the fireworks display which was part of the National Day Parade rehearsal!

Everybody loves Baby Chanelle 😀

Chanelle’s Baby Shower

_MG_1727

Motherhood has been wearing me out almost completely but let’s leave this out for today. I’m sharing some photos taken on the day of Chanelle’s baby shower so this is gonna be a happy post! 😀

IMG_1643

Little misschewy was supposed to have her hair shaved off to mark her full month but since we were expecting guests at Chanelle’s baby shower later in the evening, we decided to put this till another day and just snip a bit of her hair off as part of the ritual. I mean, very poor thing right?! Your relatives come and visit you for the first time, and you are BOTAK! OMG.

IMG_1644

Heh.. The little one was protesting to have a bit of her hair snipped off by her papa. She was really reluctant!

IMG_1645

IMG_1649

All of us were very stressed! Cuz misterchewy seriously don’t know which strands to pick! LOL. -_-

_MG_1675

Our nanny helped to give Chanelle a bath and changed her into a cutesy romper dress which my mum bought specially for the baby shower. Here’s my MIL carrying little one and misterchewy offering his prayers.

_MG_1679

_MG_1703

Chanelle was changed out of her dress as the material was a little thick and she started to get cranky. She was all smiles and also had her nap.

_MG_1712

_MG_1719

Most guests arrived between 5 to 6pm but this little lady boss woke up like around 7plus, 8pm?! Then nanny quickly changed her back into this dress. Haha.

_MG_1720

Displaying her gold and inviting everyone to take a look. LOLOLOL. Bought by my MIL and GMIL.

_MG_1728

This is Aily auntie, our nanny from PEM. We are really thankful for the tremendous help that she had given for the past 28 days. Also learned quite a bit from her, like the proper ways of carrying a newborn, how to bathe Chanelle, and many many more. We just cant thank her enough.

_MG_1729

We actually forgot to take photos with most of the other relatives and they had already left 🙁
