Mid Autumn Festival 2010: Mooncake Party!

IMG_4548com

Just last weekend, we had a Mooncake Party at Daniel’s house. 10 boxes of mooncakes were being photographed, sliced and divided, which promptly ended up in 10 foodies’ stomachs! I shall just make do with a pictorial 😛

IMG_4662com

Daniel’s mum was kind enough to prepare longjing tea and jasmine tea for all of us. She also made delicious wantons! Very good idea to have something savory in the middle of our mooncake-feasting session.

Canelé Pâtisserie Chocolaterie: Mini Bloggers’ Gathering :D

IMG_3487com

Things that are colorful make me happy. Things that are sweet make me happy too. These colorful and sweet things can be found at Canelé Pâtisserie Chocolaterie 😉 A few weeks ago, three other food bloggers and I arranged to meet up for dinner and desserts right here at this very place.

IMG_3493com

Since there were four of us, the 50% off for every 2nd main course was perfect. Anyway, this is a really really delayed post because I have been really really busy. I don’t even have time to read food blogs now 🙁 Yup, I just wanna get this over and done with so I’ll let the photos do the talking yeah? 😛

IMG_3464com

My dinner companions for the night! We were all smiles when the food finally arrived and we started clicking away with our cameras 🙂 You know, the usual food blogger ritual. Haha! 😛

IMG_3466com

Glenn’s Seafood Ravioli ($22.50). This is a home-made pasta dish that is filled with sauteed mussels, scallops and prawns with white wine. Served with a pink tomato sauce.

IMG_3470com

Rachel had the Savory Crepes with sautéed mushroom, ham, flambéed with white wine ($14.50).

IMG_3472com

Jer Lin also opted for the Savory Crepes but hers consisted of Roasted chicken, figs compote, tomato, gruyère cheese sauce($13.50). Both classic french style pancakes were served with salad.

IMG_3474com

My choice of Tomato White Wine Seafood Stew ($19). Classic Italian style seafood stew with squid, prawns, mussels and clams flavoured with white wine, garlic, onion, Italian parsley, chillies and tomato.

IMG_3476com

All braises and stews are served with a choice of pasta or homemade breads and I chose to have their homemade bread to go along with my seafood stew. Looks kinda like Sara Lee cakes to me! My childhood indulgence..

IMG_3496com

All of us shared desserts. The Opera cake ($8) was my favorite of the lot. I guess it’s because I’m a coffee lover. I’m not a coffee addict though. The cake was a bit too moist but then again, it might have been left on the shelf for too long.

IMG_3497com

Glenn and Jer Lin seem to rate the Macha cake($7) pretty well.

IMG_3499com

The L’Amour ice cream ($8) was no doubt Rachel’s favorite. We could see that she really enjoyed this! A bit too girly for Glenn maybe? 😛 The rose petal ice cream with raspberry swirl was really fragrant and I love biting onto the rose meringue sticks.

IMG_3526

Rachel has already blogged about this some time back. Do check out Glenn’s and Jer Lin’s blogs from time to time too! 😀

Chef Daniel’s Kitchen: Food Bloggers’ Lunch

IMG_1001AR

I intend to keep this post short and sweet. Not gonna dwell much about the food and you know, the usual stuff. 😛

I’m so glad that I could make it for my first ever food bloggers’ meetup. We settled for lunch at Chef Daniel’s Kitchen. It was a novel experience for me; a little intimidating in the beginning but it was quite funny to see everyone taking out their big guns slowly and shooting away as soon as the food is being served. We even left our seats so that we can walk around and take pictures of one another’s mains. My oh my. I don’t think my friends can ever tolerate that. Well, if they can, I will love them forever. I found myself smiling and I couldn’t resist taking candid shots, but failed lah. Sad. T___T

Everyone had the Delicious Set Lunch ($10.50 nett) which includes soup of the day (Cream of Onion), main course, dessert of the day (Raspberry Mousse) and a drink. Value for money!

IMG_4884com

I decided to go for the Tonkatsu Don upon Daniel’s recommendation. Umm no, not Chef Daniel.. Haha. What I loved about the pork cutlet was that it wasn’t exactly very deep fried, and there was a hint of lemon in every slice. The egg was very thin and runny, not the type that I usually see on my bowl of japanese rice. I’m quite happy with my choice! I might pop by again to try out some of the other mains if I walk into Iluma again. Hehe.

Thank you Harris, for extending this invitation to me. And thank you all, for making this a wonderful experience 😀

Here’s a photo collage and I have included photos of what some of the rest had as their mains. Go ahead and read the reviews on their blogs, which I think will be up sooner or later. Haha 🙂

K Ki ケーキ: Have your K Ki and eat it too!

IMG_4839com

And here I am. Finally on my way to the much raved about K Ki. I have seen countless photos of K Ki’s enticing cakes and they are always calling out to me. Ok I admit I’m slow but it’s better late than never right? 😛 Anyway I shall not attempt to go into the details about how K Ki came about but I believe it’s (almost) every girl’s dream come true. How fortunate to be able to work alongside your husband, doing something that you really enjoy! 😀

IMG_4837com

Took a trip down just yesterday and the nice weather made the walk from Chinatown MRT station a little less painful. The fellow foodie (you will find out who in just a bit!) reminded me that their cakes get snapped up very quickly and I did a little jog in order to catch up with her (now you know it’s a she) pace when we were going upslope. Phew. Talk about getting a little workout before some indulgence! Hehe.

IMG_4807com

I fell in love with K Ki the moment I stepped in. It’s cosy, neat and simple. Somehow, I find that the wooden furniture gives the place a very nice, rustic feel and it makes one feel at ease immediately. Absolutely nothing pretentious here.

IMG_4829com

Look at that! Now I feel like kicking myself for not asking who sewed all these. Probably Delphine?

IMG_4828com

No fancy red roses. Just a very adorable looking white flower. Not sure what is it called.. And we were wondering if it’s real!

IMG_4822com

Ta-dah! This is Stargirl, author of Le Petit Connoisseur. She certainly is petit and looks younger than what she really is! I truly enjoyed her company 🙂 Full of life and bursting with energy. I feel so old beside her for she is 7 years my junior!

IMG_4821edcom-1

Hello! *waves* I will tell you more about the Little Drom Store later 🙂 Anyway there were only four different types of cakes left when we got there around 1.45pm and we decided to share all four types! Act now, think later 😛

IMG_4808com

Call me silly but I was a little worried when Stargirl told me that Kinabaru ($8) is basically layers of coconut mousse, passion fruit creme and a spongy chocolate base. I don’t detest coconut but I’m not entirely a huge fan of it either. Passion fruit? The only thing that comes close is the body scrub that I have. Sorry but I don’t really fancy tart flavours. It got me thinking that the only consolation would probably be the chocolate base! I took my first bite with caution and.. hey it’s not as bad as I thought it would be! The coconut mousse is light and smooth, plus the passion fruit had a nice refreshing twist! Maybe I’m a little ‘conservative’ but after having the Kinabaru, I reckon it’s nice to excite your taste buds once in awhile 😉

IMG_4806com

The Antoinette ($8) is a beautiful piece of art and it got me fooled. I didn’t expect that the white fluffy coating to be white chocolate! I love chocolate in all shapes, colors and sizes. Sweetness was just right and it certainly wasn’t cloying.

IMG_4809com

There is a very sexy centre hidden within the Antoinette and it’s wet, I mean molten mango puree. A very interesting pairing of white chocolate and mango. Yummeh.. I love it! 😀

IMG_4818com

I can’t help but giggle upon realizing why this particular creation is named Little Red Riding Hood ($8.50). The shiny chocolate ganache is so gorgeous and I could almost see my own reflection staring down at it. The dark chocolate was bitter sweet and very rich. The raspberry filling within the chocolate mousse had a slight frozen, icy texture which made me shiver with delight.

IMG_4815com

I say, simplicity is best. You probably wouldn’t give Cafe Dumo ($8) a proper look in the beginning, especially when the other exquisite creations are fighting for your attention, all at the same time. When you finally decide to give it a second look, you realize that the Cafe Dumo can’t be all that simple and it lures you to it, to unravel its mystery and discover what truly lies within. Shall I tell you what I found? Go figure it out for yourself! 😛 Coffee lovers will find joy in savoring this. I still have a hard time deciding which is my favorite 🙁 All I can say is that, it is a tie between Antoinette and Cafe Dumo!

IMG_4833edcom

This is the Little Drom Store that is housed within the same space as K Ki. Here, you find all sorts of bric-a-brac from trinkets to tea towels.

IMG_4836com

Those vintage polaroids certainly caught my eye! Pretty old school stuff 🙂

IMG_4838edcom

I will definitely go back and try the Strawberry Tart, Mont Blanc, Mona, and everything else that I can get my hands on 😛 Lastly, I would like to thank Stargirl for her time 🙂
