Chocolate Ville: Most Romantic Place in Bangkok

_DIV9814

Hello everyone! I figured I need to finish up my Bangkok travelogues so here I am! I had many friends and followers asking me about Chocolate Ville when I posted IG stories during our trip so this post is for all of you who are keen to know more about this beautiful place! Some had asked if Chocolate Ville is located in Hua Hin and the answer is no. Chocolate Ville is also not exactly in Bangkok, but it is rather near Bangkok. Depending on traffic conditions, it would take about 30 to 45 minutes’ journey by car from Pratunam area.

_DIV9776

We had a private driver for our trip and since Chocolate Ville operates only from 4pm onwards, we got our driver to pick us up at around 3pm so that we would have ample time to walk around for photos before having dinner there.

_DIV9779

Being the unofficial planner for our trip, I had to find places that are suitable for all three generations. In one of my previous posts, I blogged about our day trip to Maeklong Railway Market which was not particularly well-received by the group. Good thing everyone liked Chocolate Ville because of the pretty and romantic European village theme which has a unique “Dining in the Park” concept.

_DIV9812

I mean honestly, who would have thought that such a place exists around Bangkok? It is so not Bangkok at all, if you know what I mean! And also, did I mention that admission is FREE?!

_DIV9784

Even my in laws could not resist having their photos taken with their grandchildren!

_DIV9797

There are many nice photo spots around Chocolate Ville so it is really important to arrive early to give yourself time for photos, as well as avoid the potential crowds that might start to stream in during dinner time. Also, the entire place is quite huge!

_DIV9819

_DIV9821

I observed that the crowds came in at around 6ish even on a weekday but it could be that Chocolate Ville is a popular choice on Valentine’s Day (yup we visited on 14th Feb!). Heh not surprising at all since I reckon Chocolate Ville is the most romantic place in Bangkok!

_DIV9823

_DIV9824

_DIV9829

Besides arriving early to avoid the crowd, good and bright lighting makes your photos turn out really nicely!

As with the rest of Bangkok, it was also a little hot and humid over at Chocolate Ville. I strongly recommend wearing light, breathable clothing there. Thankfully, my nursing dress from JumpEatCry is made of polyester material which is very soft and cooling to wear.

I love that there are numerous bears of different shapes and sizes scattered around Chocolate Ville. This is one of my favorites!

I strongly advise that you make reservations if you are keen to dine at Chocolate Ville as the entire place gets filled up pretty quickly. I copied what everyone else did, which was to leave on Chocolate Ville’s Facebook page, a 5-star rating with a specific template:

Please find the details as below for your reference :

Thanks.

P2145305

The above is cute and funny but hey, it works. Someone from Chocolate Ville will confirm your reservation by providing a reply to your comment.

P2145309

As it is a central restaurant, the same food menu will be provided regardless of where you choose to dine in Chocolate Ville.

_DIV9899

I was feeling quite ravenous from all the walking around Chocolate Ville and managed to only take photos of half of what we had for dinner. The food was quite good and also reasonably priced. The menu features a good mix of Thai and Western food. Alcohol is strictly served only after 6pm.

Kumoya X tokidoki Pop-Up Café in Singapore

A32A5690

If you are reading this, chances are you love tokidoki! Rejoice because the World’s FIRST tokidoki cafe is slated to open tomorrow, on 29 March 2018, at Kumoya cafe! You might even get a chance to get up close and personal with Simone Legno, the co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of tokidoki as he will be flying into Singapore specially to officiate the opening launch day of Kumoya X tokidoki pop-up cafe!

A32A5700

I have been a fan of tokidoki in recent years, thanks to fellow mummy friends who introduced me to the tokidoki X Ju-Ju-Be diaper bag collections! To date, I own a variety of bags from collections like Space Place, Animalini, Donutella Sweet Shop, Kaiju City, Unikiki V2, Tokipops, etc! Oops I digress. #sorrynotsorry

A32A5692

My kaki Modgam knows that I loveeee tokidoki, so she very kindly extended her invitation to misterchewy and I to join her in previewing this pop-up adventure. We were instantly blown away as we entered the cafe because it totally screams TOKIDOKI! The entire place is so wild, fun and quirky!

A32A5679

Looking at all the colorful characters makes one feel younger already!

A32A5702

If you don’t already know, the theme at Kumoya changes every three months. Thus, the interior, decorations and menu, etc, change along with the themes.

A32A5678

I also like that Kumoya provides plenty of plush toys which makes the place more fun and inviting. The toys are also great as photos props!

A32A5698

A32A5683

A32A5687

A32A5684-horz

A32A5677

A32A5668

The menu is very straightforward and clearly categorized into Snacks, Mains, Desserts, and Beverages.

A32A5769

Beverages make up the bulk of the menu, with a total of 11 different choices, one of them being the Sassy Strawberry Nojito ($12.90). Sweet and sour, the perfect combo. Strawberry fruit mix is combined with wild mint syrup, soda water and fresh lime. Served with a straw holder of your favorite characters, fresh strawberry and mint leaves. This is one of the selected beverages that comes with free tokidoki limited-edition coasters, while stocks last.

A32A5748

If you are a coffee person, the Latte Iced Latte ($13.90) is a must-try. Handcrafted and brewed from premium UCC Japanese coffee beans. Served with a hand-crafted Latte cookie and magic wafer rainbow sticks. Topped with fresh whipped cream and magic sprinkles.

A32A5735

All Frappe will be served with FREE limited edition Donutella float (worth $12.90) while stocks last. Donutella Mighty Minty Chocolate Chip Frappe ($17.90) A refreshing drink with a minty kick! Green mint syrup is blended with milk and chocolate chips. Topped with fresh whipped cream and a sprinkle of dark chocolate chips!

A32A5751

Kaki had the Donutella Sweet Treat Caramel Popcorn Frappe ($17.90) which she really really liked because it’s super sweet lol. It’s a frappe Donutella would approve! A blend of popcorn syrup, milk and popcorn. Topped with fresh whipped cream, caramel sauce and caramel popcorn.

A32A5763

If you don’t exactly have a sweet tooth, Donutella’s First Love! Strawberry Cheese Frappe ($17.90) is the drink for you! Drink you favorite cheesecake! A frappe made up of cheesecake syrup and blended with strawberry fruit mix and milk. Garnished with red rosebuds, fresh whipped cream and a sprinkle of little rainbow bits! I love it because it’s not cloyingly sweet and was actually quite light and easy to drink! One more also no problem!

A32A5764

Go for the Unicorno Cotton Candy ($17.90) if you want something Instagram-worthy! The bluish purple cotton candy is so pretty that everyone went “WHOA!”. What’s unique, sweet and “rainbowy”? Unicorno’s Rainbow Cotton Candy! Sitting atop passion fruit and strawberry Calpis with butterfly pea tea.

A32A5728

Onion rings and fries are the usual suspects for snacks and we chose the Golden Sweet Potato Fries ($10.90). Taste the natural sweetness of the sweet potato battered with a subtle blend of spices. Balanced nicely with a sprinkle of house-blend sweet sour plum. It’s addictive!

A32A5738

We tried a few of the mains which were all really good. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from a character-themed cafe but we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of food served which is definitely value-for-money!

A32A5755

A32A5733

Donutella & Sweet Friends Japanese Curry Rice ($25.90). Donutella doesn’t go anywhere without her friends. Teriyaki flavored fluffy Japanese rice accompanies Japanese curry, fresh tempura salmon, breaded ebi, breaded scallops, calamari rings and fresh garden salad. Served with Miso soup and side dish of the day.

A32A5715

Moofia-Protected Pressed Sushi Rice ($24.90). Moofia and gang will ensure you’re in safe hands with this pressed sushi rice with grilled unagi in teriyaki sauce, Japanese cucumber and cheddar cheese. Served with Miso soup and side dish of the day.

A32A5725

SANDy and Polpettina Full-of-Life Chicken Katsu Burger ($23.90). SANDy and Polpettina combine forces to bring you chicken katsu burger dipped with sweet teriyaki sauce, hand-cut fries, fresh garden salad with cute ‘bones’ fish cakes and a cute little sweet Polpettina pink mantou with custard fillings. Served with Miso soup and side dish of the day.

A32A5746

A Lot-of-Things LAH! Merlion Seafood Ramen ($28.90). There’s plenty of ingredients swimming in your bowl! Ocean fresh crayfish and scallops, ramen egg, spring onion, wakame and kooky Merlion fish cakes. Served with fresh garden salad and side dish of the day. I really love the attention to detail as this dish is served with a special printed Sea Punk tray liner, while the earlier Moofia sushi rice is served with Moofia tray liner!

A32A5754

Stellina Sunny Morning Unicorno Magic Breakfast ($25.90). Start your day with happy colors! Chicken and beef sausages, hashbrown, scrambled egg, baked beans, fresh garden salad with cherry tomatoes confit and cute thunder cheese with toasted cloud bread with a happy rainbow food-pick. Served with Miso soup and side dish of the day.

A32A5786

A32A5774

The selection of desserts is also very exciting and boy, were we spoilt for choice. Being a hardcore Donutella fan, I just had to pick the Donutella’s Delightful Chocolate Cake with Dark Chocolate Sauce ($18.90)! Discover what makes Donutella delightful. Tuck into a stacked berries cake, fresh berries, heart-shaped konnyaku jelly, pretty flower chocolate, dark chocolate cookies crumble and drizzled with dark chocolate sauce. The berries cake tasted light, moist and fluffy, and went very well with the cookies crumble.

A32A5788

SANDy is kaki’s favorite tokidoki character, so she insisted we order SANDy’s Desert Garden ($17.90)! Welcome to Cactus Land! Hokkaido berries soft serve, cookies and cream brulee, chocolate rocks and flower, buttery SANDy cactus cookies and fresh cream.

A32A5782

Donutella and Dolce make such a perfect pair in the Dolce Pretty-in-Pink Berries Sponge Cake ($18.90)! As delicious as it is pretty! This strawberry sponge cake is accompanied by wafer sticks, fresh cream, marshmallow hearts and rounded off with fluffy cotton candy.

A32A5770

If waffles and ice cream are your thing, then Adios and Ciao Ciao’s Farewell Fantasy Charcoal Waffles ($22.90) will not disappoint. Before you say good-bye, have a Hokkaido berries soft serve and special buttery charcoal waffles, lovely Ciao Ciao heart cookies, fresh berries, strawberry chocolate coated cereal crunch, fresh cream and dark chocolate sauce. I must say that the charcoal waffles were crispy and pretty good!

A32A5759

We saw another table order the Unicorno Rainbow Magic Parfait! ($23.90) and we just had to go over to take some photos of this pretty dessert. Special dual swirl of Hokkaido berries soft serve, handcrafted rainbow wafer bowl, rainbow wafer sticks, Unicorno cookies, homemade brownies, special heart konnyaku jelly and fluffy cotton candy.

A32A5799

Receive a 4.5″ Peperino or Marea plush key ring with every purchase of Unicorno Rainbow Magic Parfait!, while stocks last!

DreamWorks KouKou Cafe Singapore Review

Untitled

Chanelle turned 4 last week and we had a simple dinner celebration with my family. Decided to check out the new DreamWorks KouKou Cafe which opened recently at Bugis+. We figured that the kids would be thrilled because the cafe is cartoon themed plus very colorful. Having been to Universal Studios Singapore on multiple occasions, they are quite familiar with the Madagascar characters, and recently, Trolls!

Untitled

We visited DreamWorks KouKou Cafe on a Saturday evening and was horrified because the cafe is situated next to an arcade which was extremely noisy. Plus, there was some kinda competition going on that day which made the noise levels even more intolerable with all the shouting, cheering and clapping.

Untitled

I have always thought that Singaporeans love going to new cafes and restaurants, especially cartoon themed ones. It’s kinda strange that there isn’t any queue on a weekend night.

Untitled

There is a small corner selling various merchandise such as t-shirts, notebooks, keychains, and even personalised name stickers!

Untitled

We were initially given just a booth seat which is obviously too cramped for our group. Good thing they added two tables and more chairs for us. Food arrived very quickly! I will not be able to go into much detail about the food as these were all individual orders but we all agreed that the food was mediocre at best. I wouldn’t really recommend dining at DreamWorks KouKou Cafe but probably a drink or dessert would be harmless if you want to snap some Instagram-worthy photos around the cafe 🙂

OMU Japanese Omurice Singapore Food Review

Untitled

I didn’t know that an omurice restaurant opened in Singapore until I was at Suntec City earlier this year and saw a really long queue outside OMU Japanese Omurice. I guess the only legit omurice that I had was at Kichi Kichi in Kyoto during our trip to Japan in 2016 and hence, I wasn’t particularly keen on trying OMU Singapore especially with such a long queue. It was my kaki Mag‘s idea to check this place out so I suggested meeting at 5pm for dinner on a Saturday! Thankfully, we were able to march right in as there were plenty of empty tables around and even got a place to park our stroller with a sleeping littlemisschewy in it.

Untitled

We ordered an appetizer to share among the three of us and an omurice each. There is an option to top up $2 for lava-style omurice. The eggs are cooked till the surface is set, but the inside is half-cooked, creamy and full of texture. It requires the skill and experience of the chef to cook the perfect lava-style omurice! On the overall, we felt that the omurice that we had were surprisingly good given the wallet-friendly prices and reasonable portions. The sauces were also addictively yummy! Scroll down for photos!

The Chewys’ 5th Customary Wedding Anniversary Dinner at Kyuu by Shunsui

Untitled

The hubs and I celebrated our 5th customary wedding anniversary last Saturday, 3rd of March. We (or rather, misterchewy) already had plans to go ahead without the kids but I conducted a poll on my IG story just for the fun of it and more than 70% voted that we should “dump the kids” instead of taking them along with us. LOL! Well.. It was a good idea because we managed to catch Black Panther before dinner!

Untitled

Located along Keong Saik Road, Kyuu by Shunsui opened late last year and had been on my list of restaurants to visit. This place only operates during dinner time, offering a ten-course sashimi and robatayaki course menu from 6pm to 8pm, and a la carte menu from 8pm to 12am.

P3035449

We went for the Omakase Kyuu Course ($129++ per pax) and started off with 3 Kinds of Assorted Appetizers – Red Snapper And Japanese Ginger With Sumiso, Home-made Sesame Tofu covered With Starchy Sauce And Wasabi, and Soft Simmered Duck Topped With Home-made Miso. We weren’t quite blown away yet but these were enough to tantalize our taste buds and look forward to the rest of the dishes.

P3035451

Instead of 7 kinds of sashimi, we opted for the Assorted 9 kinds of Sashimi (+$15 per pax). It was a visual feast! Some of my favorites were the ikura, uni, scallop, red shrimp and tuna belly!

Untitled

Six out of the ten courses were Robatayaki dishes.

P3035456

Upon biting into the Eggplant with Sweet Red Miso, misterchewy and I were quite amused that the sauce reminded us of chee cheong fun; it was too strong for my liking and covered up the taste of the grilled eggplant.

P3035459

I really like the doneness of the Tuna Belly with Truffle Ponzu Sauce; slightly raw with a bit of bite, soaking up the delicious savory sauce, although the taste of truffle was indiscernible.

P3035463

My love for mushrooms is heightened thanks to Kyuu’s King Oyster Mushroom with Sweet Soy Sauce. Crunchy and very juicy!

P3035465

The King Crab with Vinegar and Sudachi Lime was a slight disappointment as we had a fairly difficult time extracting the meat from the shell. Also, the meat seemed to be a little too over grilled. The saving grace was the home-made dipping sauce.

P3035471

We noticed that the Fruits Tomato with Setouchi Seaweed Salt had been sitting on the grill for the longest time! It was bursting with the sweetest flavors and went really well with the accompanying salt.

P3035474

As misterchewy and I don’t take beef, we were offered the Snapper with Teriyaki Sauce, which was moist and flaky. My only complaint is that the portion is too small for a Kagoshima A4 Wagyu Beef substitute. LOL!

P3035475

Next dish on the menu was the Hokkaido Nanatsuboshi Rice with Salmon Roe and Sea Urchin (+$29 per pax). Initially, we were puzzled when the waitress placed three empty bowls in front of us. We were then asked to choose small, medium or large for our serving of rice. This is medium size!

P3035478

This was definitely the highlight of the night! The waitress told us that she would be scooping ikura onto our bowls of rice and to let her know when it was enough.

Watch the video here!

P3035487

With every spoonful we took, we were sent to ikura and uni heaven!

P3035489

A simple Home-made Green Tea Ice Cream to end our 10-course dinner!

Mandarin Oriental Bangkok Afternoon Tea Review

Untitled

To some Singaporeans, Bangkok is all about shopping, shopping and more shopping. Foodies like us value eating more than anything else. On the third day of our Bangkok trip, The Chewys had the luxury of sleeping in and subsequently took a Grab car to Mandarin Oriental Bangkok. We were staying at The Westin Grande Sukhumvit and the journey from our hotel took about 20 minutes due to a slight midday traffic jam.

Untitled

Thankfully, the girls were pretty well-behaved along our way there and upon reaching Mandarin Oriental, we were captivated by the beautiful and luxurious hotel interior.

P2155316

Overlooking the Chao Phraya river, the Authors’ Lounge at Mandarin Oriental is one of Bangkok’s most photographed locations. It was originally an open roofed garden with a tortoise pond and since 1976, the Authors’ Lounge features a glass roof and is the place to enjoy afternoon tea. Over the last three centuries, many famous writers have stayed at the hotel and their photographs are showcased in the newly restored Authors’ Lounge. The ‘Heritage Authors’ Noël Coward, James Michener, Somerset Maugham and Joseph Conrad are now immortalised in four new private lounges.

Untitled

I am always cautious and want to avoid any disappointment when it comes to holiday planning, so I reserved a table for the four of us a couple of weeks before our trip. I booked the earliest slot for afternoon tea at 12pm and perhaps it was a weekday, we got to choose where we wanted to sit. What I didn’t like was that Mini misschewy started to whine because it was close to her nap time and one of the staff forewarned us that if Cayla continued to make noise, we would have to be moved to a table at a corner as it would disturb other (non-existent) guests. I mean young children are bound to laugh, cry or talk loudly. She could have ushered us to a corner table in the first place. It resulted in us jumping up every time one of the girls let out any form of sound exceeding 60 to 75 decibels and we had to constantly shush them. LOLOLOL.

MO BKK high tea menu

Moving on..! The Author’s Lounge offers three types of afternoon tea sets. If you are a vegetarian, there’s something for you! Apart from that, there is a choice of Western Afternoon Tea Set and The Oriental Afternoon Tea Set. If you are dining alone, I would definitely recommend that you go for the Oriental set where the items are traditionally Thai. Dining with friends? Then you should have the best of both worlds! Each set costs ฿1450++ per person and is inclusive of free flow tea of coffee.

Untitled

My choice of tea: Pink Garden TeaRegal garden roses accent this green tea blended with notes of Provencal red fruits. A blooming bouquet as blissful as a summer day.

His choice of tea (without even having to look at the menu): Moroccan Mint TeaA great favourite, this fine TWG Tea green tea is perfectly blended with suave and strong Sahara mint. A timeless classic.

Untitled

We didn’t have to wait long for both the afternoon tea sets to be served. Yaaay! And look! So Instagram-worthy!

Untitled

Little Tai Tais in training 😛

Untitled

I love the use of ceramic tiered tiffin to present the oriental set! Traditional with a touch of class.

Untitled

We really enjoyed The Oriental Afternoon Tea Set. Most of our favorites were the savory food items such as:

– Lime-marinated crabmeat sandwich with lemongrass and chilli
– Minced chicken, chilli and black olive sandwich
– Roasted pandan chicken
– Steamed Thai dumplings

From the selection of pastries, these were pretty unforgettable:

– Kanom Sai Sai, sweet coconut pudding wrapped in banana leaf
– Steamed pumpkin custard
– Mango tartlet with vanilla cream
– Candy bale fruit chiffon cake

Untitled

We were impressed by the Oriental set but that doesn’t mean we paid any less attention to the Western Afternoon Tea Set.

Here are some of the finger sandwiches that we reckon are worthy of mention:

– Green asparagus dips in clear tomato aspic on white sour dough bread
– Smoked ham, sun dried tomato and honeydew melon
– Open-faced smoked salmon, sour cream and beetroot sandwich
– Cucumber, dill and cream cheese on oat bread

Apart from the chocolate desserts, these were quite nice and refreshing:

– Minted light cream and strawberry sphere
– Vanilla yoghurt cream, streusel and pineapple chutney

Burger and Lobster Bangkok Review

Untitled

Gonna kick-start our series of Bangkok travel posts with our experience at Burger and Lobster! It got quite a number of my friends and followers excited when I posted IG stories while dining there during our CNY trip. Likewise for me, I only knew about Burger and Lobster Bangkok when I chanced upon a photo that my friend had uploaded to her Instagram account and I had to text her to double confirm that there IS a Burger and Lobster in the Land of Smiles. LOL!

Untitled

So yup, according to a few online sources, Burger and Lobster was supposed to open in March 2017 but there were some delays and it finally opened its doors in September, a good five months later. I guess it is always a wise decision to wait till you are ready! Located at Gaysorn Plaza, just across Erawan Shrine, the nearest BTS station would be Chit Lom. From Chit Lom BTS station, it is just a short two-minute walk to Gaysorn Plaza.

Untitled

The food menu is conveniently categorised into Starters, Burgers, Lobsters, Rolls, Sides and Sauces. Nobody in our group opted for burger as a main.

Untitled

Untitled

P2145250

Naturally, the camera gets to eat first.

Untitled

A group shot before our lobster feast. Oh yes, since we were a large group, I made reservations via email and was allocated this huge round table. My MIL likes it because in a way, it symbolises 团圆.

P2145258

I chose Over The Moon (฿390) because this combination of Beefeater Gin, strawberry, Pimms, rose, cucumber, lemon, fizz sounds delish and I was right!

P2145266

Not sure who ordered the Truffle Fries (฿290) but it was a bad decision because all our mains came with a large serving of fries! LOL. Major fries overload! I didn’t touch any of it but I think anything with truffle should be good.

P2145264

The Lobster Mac N Cheese (฿350) was really comfort food with chunks of lobster meat and macaroni generously coated with melted cheese.

P2145269

The Lobster Croquettes (฿350) were also a hit among all of us. Be sure to eat it with the spicy dip sauce that comes with it!

P2145247

Besides the Original Roll (฿1500), there are Avocado Roll (฿950) and Chilli Roll (฿950) too. If it’s your first time dining at Burger and Lobster, I would definitely recommend trying the Original Roll for it is a true Burger and Lobster classic of chilled lobster meat dressed in a smooth lemony Japanese mayo.

P2145249

If you think you might be missing out on a lot since it’s chunks of lobster meat as compared to a whole lobster, fret not. The toasted brioche roll is actually filled with generous chunks of meat to make this a truly satisfying meal.

P2145252

If you can’t do without chilli, Burger and Lobster offers Chilli Lobster (฿1850) on their menu. The lobster is first steamed and then served in a hot clay pot smothered with an aromatic chilli sauce that has been prepared in-house. You have a choice of rice or warm toasted brioche to go with your chilli lobster.

P2145255

The most expensive item on the menu, the B&L Thermidor (฿2100) is served as a whole lobster cooked in herbed velouté and mushroom sauce, topped with a cheesy crust. If you like strong-tasting foods, you will definitely enjoy this feast.

The three ladies ordered the Original Lobster (฿1500), with a choice of steamed or grilled lobster. We went for the steamed lobsters as we felt that it was the best way to taste the freshness of the lobster and indulge in its succulent meat. I really liked the B&L’s famous lemon and garlic butter sauce which was addictive!

Oh man, I’m missing this already.

Dim Sum Icon Hong Kong X Spongebob Squarepants

Untitled

Oops! Things got quiet around here once again! Hahaha guess I got carried away with catching up on my Kdrama 😛 So yes, I’m back to blog about the one and only dim sum meal that we had during our Hong Kong trip!

PB110382

We only had 5 days in HK, of which 3 were spent in Disneyland and Ocean Park. Too much food that we wanted to eat but due to limited time and also limited stomach space, we had to get our priorities right. Haha! I’m a sucker for all things cute so it was a no-brainer that we must visit Dim Sum Icon thanks to their cartoon themed dim sum!

PB110385

Prior our trip, I was really excited because it was Miffy before that (which I wasn’t too keen on) and we were just in time for the launch of Spongebob dim sum!

PB110381

Thankfully, Dim Sum Icon accepts reservations via private messaging on their Facebook page and replies were really quick.

PB110387

There are two Dim Sum Icon branches and we went to the one at Tsim Sha Tsui at The ONE. Yes la the one at The ONE. LOL. GEDDIT? Reservation was for 5pm and there were quite a number of occupied tables already! Dim sum all day err day! They open from 11am to 11pm btw.

We also took this opportunity to catch up with Jen, founder and CEO of WanderSnap, together with her partner, over a meal. You can read about our WanderSnap photoshoot experience in Hong Kong here and in Bali here.

PB110388

While I was flipping through the menu, I wanted to order almost everything! Some because too cute la!

PB110391

PB110392

PB110396

The two men went for a non Spongebob drink, the frozen Sakura beer served in a Unicorn drink float. We even got to keep the float after that!

PB110400

Not sure what was so special about the Pineapple Special Drink (HK$49) because it tasted like pure pineapple juice to me lol.

PB110402

Steamed Egg Yolk Buns with Taro (HK$49) were quite fluffy and delish.

PB110410

Nothing to shout about for the Egg Tarts (HK$49).

PB110409

I wonder why not real chicken meat for the Glutinous Rice with Vegetarian Chicken and Fried Eggs (HK$49) but surprisingly, this was really yummy.

PB110418

I really liked the Steamed Truffle and Mushroom Buns (HK$49)! Anything truffle is always a good idea lol.

PB110439

My favorite of the lot deserves another shot.

PB110398

Honey French Toast with Egg Yolk Filling (HK$59) is also worthy of mention. A well balanced mix of sweet and savoury.

PB110405

Layered Cantonese Sponge Cake (HK$39) was soft, chewy and not overly sweet.

PB110438

Patrick Steamed Taro Pudding with Lollipop in Coconut Shell (HK$49) was served warm and I highly recommend this as dessert to end your dim sum meal.

PB110414-001

On the overall, misterchewy and I were impressed that the food at Dim Sum Icon was actually quite delicious! I feel that the savoury items were the best! If you only have time for ONE dim sum place, Dim Sum Icon would be your best bet.

OMQ Dining Room Hong Kong 老夫子餐馆

Untitled

While planning for our Hong Kong trip, I made sure to search for kid-friendly cafes and was happy to have stumbled upon OMQ Dining Room in the course of my research. OMQ stands for Old Master Q, 老夫子 in Chinese.

Untitled

I don’t know about you, but I sort of grew up reading 老夫子 comics when I was a kid. Instead of magazines, I would pore over 老夫子 comics at the hairdresser’s because I appreciated the light-hearted humour.

Untitled

We took the MTR to Prince Edward and via Exit E, managed to easily locate OMQ Dining Room along Nathan Road. Had to climb a flight of stairs to the restaurant on the second floor.

Untitled

As you can see, there is plenty of opportunities for photos even before you enter the restaurant.

This is actually a dining area! Yup complete with table and seater for four to six people. When we reached, it was already occupied by another family.

The hubs ordered a set meal and chose this fancy looking drink! Can’t remember what is it called but we were surprised when it was served. Wasn’t expecting the cotton candy!

PB110359

PB110355

Minestrone soup was tangy and appetite-whetting.

PB110364

Very tender and juicy pork chop!

PB110365

I think it was our first time trying fried pigeon and we loved it! There wasn’t much meat to begin with but its taste was quite rich and on the overall it was kinda fatty. Definitely must try!

Hello Kitty Orchid Garden Cafe at Changi Airport Terminal 3

A32A4807

MEOW! Hahaha we have not done food reviews in a long time and today, we are back with one! On Deepavali, misterchewy and I took the girls out for brunch at Hello Kitty Orchid Garden at Changi Airport Terminal 3. It was actually a pretty impromptu decision after I did a poll on my IG stories on whether we should visit Changi Airport or Gardens by the Bay. We visited both since the results were really close and also because we had an entire day to spare!

A32A4864

So first up, gotta fuel ourselves for the long day ahead with some food! Although I’m a sucker for themed cafes especially cartoon character cafes, I will never queue for hours to enter one. I think it has been quite some time since the hype for Hello Kitty Orchid Garden died down but I went ahead to make reservations via Chope just to be safe. Yes, can reserve now and earn Chope-Dollars too!

A32A4862

Hello Kitty holding a bouquet of Orchid flowers! Can’t find this anywhere else! 😉

A32A4803

We were ushered to a table right at the back, which made photo opportunities with Hello Kitty aplenty!

A32A4831

The hubs and I prefer cold drinks so he chose a Dracula Latte from the Halloween menu (available for the month of October) while I had a Cucumbernade. Love my fizzy drink because it was sweet and really refreshing!

A32A4825

The entire Hello Kitty Orchid Garden menu is also available online. If you want an ultimate breakfast for champs, go for the Big Breakfast Surprise! Nobody can resist a Hello Kitty waffle topped with cheese, with creamy scrambled eggs, shiitake mushrooms and smoked duck slices on the side.

A32A4826

The Leaning Tower of Kitty is no tall order for the kitchen crew at Hello Kitty Orchid Garden! Everything turned out purrrfect! The toasted Japanese bread was crispy with tender smoked salmon, heavenly melted cheese, crisp Arugula, juicy tomatoes and Japanese cucumber, with homemade mustard mayonnaise.

A32A4840-001

Our brunch spread for the day!

A32A4849

A32A4843

A32A4870

Perhaps we will try the desserts and other sweet treats next time!

A32A4871

There is also a section where you can purchase Hello Kitty merchandise that is sold exclusively at Hello Kitty Orchid Garden.

A32A4795

How many kitties do you see? 😛

A32A4882

We received many compliments on the girls’ dresses! Just sharing that they are from Angelibebe under the Sonia Rykiel Enfant range! 🙂

A32A4895

Hope everyone had a spooky Halloween! Stay tuned for our next post!
