Casa Verde at Singapore Botanic Gardens

PB223154

Hello everybardy! Oh yes, Little misschewy’s expression says it all. Whutttt it’s Monday again..! Hahaha. We had a pretty good weekend and the little one stayed over at my parents’ place as usual. Yesterday, we met up with misterchewy’s secondary school buddies for lunch at Botanical Gardens because Casa Verde is a pet-friendly restaurant and one of the couples had planned to bring their dog along. We have never been to a restaurant or cafe that allows pets so it was quite an eye-opening experience for us!

PB223138

PB223144

Hmm.. Mummy, what are we going to have for lunch?

PB223145

Some quick snaps of the food around our table!

I had the All Day Gourmet Breakfast ($18) which was just mediocre really. The scrambled eggs were too watery for my liking. Little misschewy liked the mushrooms and kept asking for more.

Chanelle and Oscar! Sorry I forgot what’s the breed but he’s such a handsome dog, isn’t he! Some of these pics were taken by Cheng Xiang.

I’m afraid of dogs and cats so here’s Qihui trying to get Chanelle to stroke Oscar’s fur. Haha.

Alicia and Chanelle are about 6 to 7 months apart but Alicia is a big eater! Very impressed by her appetite!

This photo got feel or not? LOL. You know it’s like those typical OOTD pose.

It was a lot of fun for Little misschewy as it was her first time running around on grass. There were many other children and dogs but she paid no attention to them. Hahaha.

20F Specialty Coffeehouse Singapore Review

A32A6914

Hellooooo chewy chewy friends! I didn’t have time to finish up the other post which I meant to post this week so here’s a short update in the meantime! The hubs and I love checking out new cafes and just yesterday morning, I happened to chance upon 20F Specialty Coffeehouse while scrolling through my Instagram feed and something caught my eye! As I was lazing in our bedroom while misterchewy was in the living room, I sent a screenshot to him and said LET’S GO! We picked Little misschewy from my parents’ place and went to Bugis before heading to 20F Specialty Coffeehouse for brunch.

A32A6877

I suppose 20F Specialty Coffeehouse is one of the newest cafes around, which opened only last month. Really, want to go better faster go if not many people go then very hard to find seats. LOL. We were there slightly before 5pm, so we still had a chance to order from the brunch menu.

A32A6885

Had the Earl Grey Vanilla Milkshake ($7.50) which was smooth and creamy. Their Chocolate Coconut Milkshake and Dark Chocolate Caramel Milkshake sound fabulous too!

A32A6895

There are only seven items on the brunch menu and after much deliberation, I decided to try the Orange Cinnamon French Toast ($15). The french toast was thick, fluffy, and tasted as good as it looked! Wonderful idea to pair bacon and maple mascarpone to balance out the flavors. The orange cinnamon french toast wasn’t cloying sweet but had that nice zesty flavor to it.

A32A6913-001

THIS, ladies and gentlemen, was what made us want to visit 20F Specialty Coffeehouse. Simply called Duck and Waffle ($22), this dish isn’t that simple after all. A whole duck confit with buttermilk waffle, strawberry compote and mixed berries sorbet. Yes SORBET. This made the entire dish a very fun one to eat. The duck confit certainly stole the show, with its perfectly crispy skin and layer of fat underneath. Duck meat was very tender and succulent. The hubs even commented that the buttermilk waffles were very fragrant. I found myself googling how to cook duck confit as I eating this. LOL. I want to eat this everyday!

Guide to Top 8 Must Try Food in Penang

Guide to Top 8 Must Try Food in Penang

HELLOOOO! 🙂 Friends and readers who have been following me closely on my social media platforms, Facebook, Instagram and Dayre, would know that I went on a short trip to Penang with misterchewy and Little misschewy earlier this month. While we were there, we ate our way around Penang and I’m happy to announce that we managed to compile our very own Guide to Top 8 Must Try Food in Penang! There exists a few variations of “must eat food in Penang” lists, so it is inevitable that there will be some overlaps in what has been recommended. The last time I did a Malacca food guide back in end 2013 when I was still pregnant, it was quite well-received, so I thought I would come up with another one now as I always find joy in sharing good eats with everyone! 😉

PA042621

1. Sister Yao’s Char Koay Kak @ Macalister Lane

Char Koay Kak is actually fried radish cake but in Singapore, we call it Chai Tow Kueh. The Eoh sisters’ roadside stall which is located somewhere outside Seow Fong Lye Cafe along Macalister Lane has been around for more than 40 years. They took over their father’s helm about 30 years ago and nothing much has changed, except that in order to cater to the increasing numbers of somewhat health-conscious customers, pure lard is no longer used as the base frying oil for their Char Koay Kak. Instead, the oil used is mixed with vegetable oil.

PA042625

I stood by watching auntie prepare my plate of Char Koay Kak. She made it seem pretty effortless but surely, it requires a great deal of skill to fry such a large wok of rice cake!

PA042628

The hubs and I shared the medium sized Char Koay Kak. Fried in thick black soy sauce, the other essential ingredients are chye poh (preserved radish), bean sprouts and eggs. We caught a whiff of the aromatic Char Koay Kak which further whetted our appetites. To our surprise, the fried rice cakes were only coated with a very thin layer of grease which is good news for our cholesterol levels.

PA042637

I guess we are too used to eating fried carrot cake that has been chopped up into fat little cubes. The rice cakes here are sliced slightly thin and elongated, which somehow makes it more substantial to chew on. On the overall, the Char Koay Kak tasted mildly sweet on top of being savory and was also a little spicy. Love the added crunchiness from the bean sprouts and bits of chye poh which also contributed to the subtle hints of saltiness. We washed it all down with a cup of Teh O and it was definitely a shiok breakfast for us.

Address: 94C Macalister Lane, Georgetown, 11400 Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia
Opening Hours: 7am – 1pm daily

2. Famous Penang Road Assam Laksa @ Joo Hooi Cafe

What is a trip to Penang without Assam Laksa? You know, from the moment we confirmed our trip to Penang, I just couldn’t stop thinking about Assam Laksa. I was tempted to satisfy my major craving in Singapore but decided to settle for the real deal at Joo Hooi Cafe along Penang Road. Without a doubt, we have made the right choice as Joo Hooi Cafe was packed with a mix of locals and tourists slurping up bowls of piping hot Assam Laksa. That in itself is an affirmation that the Assam Laksa is so good that it is highly sought after.

PA032474

I noticed that the Famous Penang Road Assam Laksa is slightly watered down which is great for me because as someone who likes to drink her laksa gravy, I would want my Assam Laksa to not be overly thick and rich. This one has just the right amount of thickness and consistency. Every mouthful teases the taste buds with its spiciness and piquant tanginess. Mackerel fish and tamarind juice have also been added, which results in a very flavourful broth. One bowl of Assam Laksa is simply not enough!

Address: 475 Jalan Penang, 10000 George Town, Penang, Malaysia
Opening Hours: 11.30am – 5pm daily

IMG_0497

3. Penang Road Famous Teochew Cendol @ Lebuh Keng Kwee

Head outside Joo Hooi Cafe after you are done with your Assam Laksa! Here, you can find one of Penang’s best Cendol – Penang Road Famous Teochew Cendol!

PA032465

There is always a long queue for their Cendol but not to worry, the queue moves very quickly and before you know it, you will be huddling together with the rest, and drinking from your bowl of deliciously sweet Cendol.

PA032468

What fantastic way to beat the heat! Everyone looked blissful slurping up mouthfuls of green pandan-flavored jelly and red kidney beans, mixed in a sweet concoction of coconut milk and gula melaka. I wish that more gula melaka could be added to make it a little sweeter though but that’s just a personal preference.

Address: 27 – 29 Lebuh Keng Kwee, 10100 Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia
Opening Hours: Mon to Fri 10.30am – 7pm
Sat to Sun 10am – 7.30pm

PA032455

4. Tiger Char Koay Teow (老虎炒粿条) @ Ping Hooi Coffee Shop

There is much debate online about the best Char Koay Teow in Penang but one that consistently shows up on the list is Tiger Char Koay Teow along Carnarvon Street.

PA032458

This is not Ah Hor (Tiger in Hokkien) but close enough. He is the grandson belonging to the first generation, who took over the reins from his father almost 20 years ago. Over the years, he earned the support from loyal customers and Ping Hooi Coffee Shop is always packed to the brim.

PA032461

We decided to try the famous Char Koay Teow with duck eggs. The rice noodles were thin and springy, while the entire dish had enough wok hei and the right amount of char. It was indeed a good move to add duck eggs as it gave the Char Koay Teow a delightful creaminess. We only found about two to three large prawns in our plate of Char Koay Teow, so if you want more prawns, remember to inform the chef about it!

Address: 179 Carnavon Street, 10300, Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia
Opening Hours: 8am – 2.30pm daily

PA042663

5. Pitt Street Koay Teow Th’ng (椰腳粿條湯) @ Carnarvon Street

Carnarvon Street is littered with plenty of eateries but one that should not be missed is Pitt Street Koay Teow Th’ng. Trust me, it is so popular that even though they officially close at 4pm, they usually sell out fast. We reached there around 2pm on a Saturday but saw that their helper was busy washing bowls. The lady boss told us that it’s normal for them to close way before 4pm, so it’s better for us to return the next day before 1pm! Business is so good that they have extended their operating hours. Now, they open as early as 8am and no longer close on Sundays!

PA042659

We went back early the next day and heaved a sigh of relief to see that the stall was opened. Had a chance to speak to the lady boss again, who was extremely chatty. She confirmed that they also operate on Sundays now because they have many customers including tourists who travel all the way there for a taste of their famous fish balls. These fish balls are extraordinary because they are made using eel meat. I asked the lady boss if these fish balls are handmade and she replied that they used to, but now they have a machine to do it because they cannot handle rolling and kneading the fish balls and ensuring that each and every one of them maintains the same standard and quality. She is confident that the machine can do an equally good job and that nobody would be able to tell the difference.

PA042644

While I have not had the opportunity to try their handmade fish balls to make a comparison, I must say that these fish balls made from eel were full of bite and it was pure satisfaction biting into them. The texture of the fish balls is neither springy or bouncy, but is slightly similar to that of a Fuzhou fish ball, doughy but more delicate. We give our stamp of approval!

PA042657

The lady boss urged us to try their homemade chili which is made using chopped garlic, lime juice and soy sauce. There is indeed something unique about their chili which is very refreshing and acts as a perfect complement to the Kway Teow Thng.

PA042651

Did we mention that their Kway Teow is silky smooth which glides down the throat?

PA042641

Pitt Street’s pork slices were surprisingly lean and tender, which makes chewing easy. The lady boss revealed that that they only use good quality pork fillets. She also added that most of Pitt Street’s customers order their Kway Teow Thng, but she strongly recommends their Kway Teow Dry too because they only use top grade crispy fried shallots oil. We will try that next time!

Address: 183 Carnarvon Street, 10100, Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia
Opening Hours: 9am – 4pm (Closed on Mondays)

PA032482-tile

6. Kim Leng Loh Mee @ Joo Huat Restaurant

We heard good things about Kim Leng Loh Mee and travelled out to Jelutong area to try it for ourselves. Apparently, this stall became famous after it was featured in Axian’s (Jason Yeoh) food show many years ago. He is Malaysia’s popular TV producer cum host, who is also a self-proclaimed foodie.

PA032481

Even before tucking into our bowl of Loh Mee, we knew it was going to be something great. Our medium sized Loh Mee was served with a chockful of ingredients such as slices of barbecued pork, pig intestines, egg, bean sprouts and chicken feet!

PA032478

Apart from the generous assortment of ingredients, the flavorful gravy had been cooked with pork rib stock, five-spice powder and starched with egg white. The gravy was neither too watery nor gooey; it was of the right consistency for us to be able to enjoy our combination of yellow noodles and beehoon.

Address: 336-G1 Lintang Slim, off Jalan Perak
Opening Hours: 7am – 4pm (Closed on Thursdays)

PA032488

7. Kimberley Street Duck Koay Chap @ Restoran Kimberly

We heard that Kimberley Street is a food haven and that there is simply too much to eat there but if you are hard pressed for time like us, just go and try Kimberley Street Duck Koay Chap! Confirm no regrets. It is so good that upon the first mouthful, the hubs declared, “Let’s eat this again tomorrow!”

PA032526

This shot was captured after we were done eating. Kimberley Street Duck Koay Chap only operates in the evening from 6.30pm onwards. Since we were just around the area, we decided to pop by and see if it was open at around 5.30pm. Much to our excitement, it was! Nobody was in the queue so we didn’t have to wait very long for our bowl of Duck Koay Chap.

PA032489

Cabinet full of duck and other ingredients such as pig innards that you can have with your Koay Chap. Apart from Koay Chap, there is also a choice of rice or porridge.

PA032491

For the past 30 plus years, everything is prepared in-house, from the koay chap to the stewed duck and even the chili sauce. Duck meat is stewed together with other duck parts such as the wings, necks and gizzards, as well as pig innards. The pot is then continuously stirred and left to stew for hours, ensuring that the stew penetrates the meat.

PA032500

Alas, the shreds of stewed duck proved to be full of depth and flavor, while the texture of the duck meat was very juicy. The broth is also worth a mention, for it was packed with all the juices from the duck meat and the oomph it brought is simply unforgettable.

PA032505

Unlike the Koay Chap that we are so used to seeing in Singapore, the ones served here are slightly thicker and rolled up. I certainly prefer this as it is firmer, smoother and has a nice chewy texture.

Address: 137 Lebuh Kimberley, 10100 George Town, Penang, Malaysia
Open hours: 6:30 pm – 11:30 pm (closed on Thursday)

PA042736

8. Mama-Miya Coconut Ice Cream @ Lebuh Pantai

While we were combing Georgetown for its famous street art, we passed by a stall selling coconut ice cream and milkshake. There was a long queue but we decided to join in anyway. Mama-Miya Coconut Ice Cream is one of the F&B business which received a recommendation award at the Penang Hawker and Entrepreneur Festival 2015. Sounds promising so must support!

PA042755

On the first day we had coconut milkshake which was quite thick but a bit too sweet. We decided to return the following day to try their coconut ice cream which comes with a cup of coconut water. Not only is their coconut ice cream adorned with corn and nata de coco, there’s also pandan flavored glutinous rice!

PA042743

We have come to the end of our Guide to Top 8 Must Try Food in Penang! This list is by no means exhaustive and hopefully we will get a chance to visit Penang again to discover more yummy food!

Arteastiq at Plaza Singapura Food Review

Tasting Invite

P9051999

The last time misterchewy and I visited Arteastiq’s flagship outlet at Mandarin Gallery was a few years ago. It was an impromptu decision to have afternoon tea there on a weekday but it was the best decision ever! I remember lusting over Arteastiq’s famous apple and orange cakes, as well as their lovely dessert teas! Thanks to Agnes from ATMC, misterchewy and I got to be one of the first to try Arteastiq’s revamped menu at Plaza Singapura, their new outlet which opened end August this year.

P9051990

Just like its flagship outlet, the newly opened Arteastiq at Plaza Singapura also serves to provide a sanctuary for city dwellers to retreat from the stress of living in fast-paced Singapore, while enjoying the ambience of contemporary Europe tucked in a cosy corner. The dining area of the new boutique tea house accommodates 68 pax while the art jam studio can accommodate 24 pax, totalling to a maximum capacity of 92.

P9051992

P9051993

In true Arteastiq fashion, the new location provides a view of lush greenery and social art jammers will be able to let their creative juices flow in the art jam studio adjacent to the premium tea lounge. While we were dining there, I couldn’t help but observe the art jammers work on blank canvases from scratch and it does seem to be a very therapeutic and enjoyable activity for people of all ages!

P9052001

Arteastiq has launched a charity program called “Get Creative for a Good Cause” in collaboration with the Rare Disorders Society (Singapore) (RDSS). Individuals are encouraged to submit their artwork from their art jamming sessions at Arteastiq and these art pieces will be put up for sale. Upon successful sales of Art Jammers’ artwork donation, Arteastiq will refund the Art Jammer as a sponsorship and donate all proceeds to Rare Disorders Society Singapore. Photographed above are some of the art pieces by local celebrities like Dawn Yeoh, waiting to be purchased for a good cause. Each Art Jamming session costs $48 per person and comes with one standard 50cm x 50cm cotton canvas, unlimited flow of acrylic paint, one set of brushes, and one choice of Arteastiq lite specialty beverages.

P9051955

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Arteastiq serves an incredibly extensive range of beverages which are categorized into Fruit Teas, Ginger Teas, English & Floral Teas, Chinese & Japanese Teas, Blency, Blencelato, Dessert Teas, Coffee, Tea Latte, Cioccolata and Steam Milk. I have a thing for floral teas and selected the Cold French Rose Tea ($7.40). It came in a large pot which was sufficient to be shared between two people. Brewed with the finest floral tea leaves, the French Rose Tea was delicate and fragrant, which also had a calming effect.

P9051962

Don’t you think that it is a very bold move to name your own mushroom soup as The Best Mushroom Soup in the World ($12)? We immediately caught a whiff of truffle as soon as the mushroom soup was served to our table. It was creamy and had a smooth consistency, with tiny bits of mushroom that we bit into. Definitely not the best but it was quite good. Having said that, the hubs and I wiped the entire pot clean! Perhaps a little less salt would work wonders.

P9051957

The other starter that we had was Nordic Lights – Soba Salad ($16). Presentation wise, it was interesting to serve the combination of greens, smoked salmon, soba noodles and cherry tomatoes on a huge tortilla bowl. I love how clean tasting and easy to stomach this was.

P9051959

The mains of the revamped menu is divided into two segments: ‘Ladies Affairs’ and ‘Gentleman’s Dinner’, which was conceived with the idea of having foods specifically engineered for both genders, with the ladies preferring lighter and more sophisticated items while the gentlemen tend to favor hearty and robust dishes. We tried 3 items from the ‘Gentleman’s Dinner’ section. The Beijing’s Dynasty – Duck Pancake ($28) is stuffed with tender and juicy chunks of duck confit, wrapped around light, fluffy crepes. Generously drizzled with orange caramel, the harmonious marriage of sweet and savory is indisputable. You really can’t say no to another piece of Arteastiq’s duck pancake.

P9051963

The Latin Lover – Frijolles ($25) is made up of baked Mexican pork bean stew that is cooked with sausages, eggs, topped with arugula, and a side of country bread. If you have not tasted Mexican food before, you should give this a try. It is amazing because you can really taste the complex flavors in every bite!

P9051980

The Boston Love Boat – Ciponio ($29) sounds feminine but the seafood and saffron stew is very rich and robust. It is actually served with a light puff pastry covering the soup bowl and comes with a side of crispy sweet potato fries. The best way to eat this is to savor each spoon of stew together with the pastry. Tomato has also been added into the mix so the result is very tantalizing and hearty. Also, there are plenty of fresh ingredients such as prawns, scallops and mussels in this one! Eat this on a cold rainy day, confirm shiok!

P9051966

Moving on to the ‘Ladies Affair’ section, the Louisiana Love – Chicken And Waffles ($22) is a dish that I definitely wouldn’t mind ordering again and again. The pan-fried dredged buttermilk chicken and wholewheat waffle proved to be a winning combination, especially when slathered with Arteastiq’s own improvisation of margarine, a tasty maple butter!

P9051969

And finally before we move on to desserts, the Summer in Provence – Foiegras ($28) is DA BOMB. I believe not just the ladies, but even the gentlemen will truly enjoy this gastronomic indulgence. It is such a brilliant idea to serve seared foie gras with lightly baked eggs!

P9051974

Mix the eggs and foie gras for an ultimate eating experience! The taste of the foie gras was further enhanced by the egg yolk. There is also a slice of bread served with this dish for diners to soak up all that yummy goodness!

P9051982

The desserts that we tried were good, but didn’t manage to outshine the mains we had earlier. The New York Connection ($15) is basically french toast with brie, served with coffee syrup and vanilla gelato.

P9051986-tile

I have a strong preference for sweet stuff but the Whirling Mist ($12) is highly recommended nevertheless. The Lemon Meringue Tart was unusually sour in a refreshing way. Of course, I soon found myself digging into the dark chocolate gelato.

P9051989

Arteastiq is not just a place for afternoon tea. Their mains are pretty exceptional so you should head there to try them out for yourselves! And don’t forget to indulge in some art jamming 😉

Pince & Pints Singapore Food Review

P9092054

Pince & Pints officially opened in July last year and refusing to jump onto the bandwagon like everyone else, here I am reviewing this lobster bar at Duxton Road more than a year later. LOL kidding. Truth is, we weren’t invited for any tasting (it’s ok la we can afford to pay hahaha) and this place doesn’t take in any reservations. We actually swung by Pince & Pints last year with two other friends but were told that the waiting time was estimated to be about 2 hours. Ridiculous or not? Anyway, Pince & Pints will be opening up a second level next month, which means more seats for everyone and shorter waiting time!

P9092053

The hubs had always wanted to visit Pince & Pints, and given that our agenda was to celebrate his birthday, I was obliged to make him happy. Hahaha. Of course, we are still bummed out by the fact that we didn’t manage to try Burger & Lobster when we went to London for our Europe honeymoon trip in 2013. It was depressing because we specially made a trip to Burger & Lobster three nights in a row. Sad story but let’s not go into it.

P9092056

After work, we wasted no time and chionged to Duxton Road. The place was relatively empty before 7pm and we were ushered to the second table nearest the entrance. There were only 4 items on the menu – namely Live Whole Lobster (Steamed or Grilled), Chili Lobster with Mantou and The Lobster Roll, all priced at $58++. When we visited, the new Truffle Lobster Roll ($68++) had not been launched yet which was a pity because WE LOVE TRUFFLES.

P9092070

My date for the night! 🙂

P9092067

When the servers offer you these aprons (or are they bibs?), do not turn them down! Eating the lobsters, especially if you order the chili lobster, can be a very messy affair 😉

P9092071

The hubs initially wanted to order the Live Whole Lobster but he changed his mind and chose the Chili Lobster with Mantou upon knowing that I wanted that too. More variety for the blog mah! LOL. Very noble ah, misterchewy 😛

P9092073

I wish they would come up with a black pepper lobster instead because I’m not the biggest fan of our Singapore style chili sauce. The hubs offered me half of his Chili lobster and surprisingly, the sauce wasn’t as crappy as what I had expected. Pince & Pint’s special chili sauce recipe uses ingredients like roma tomatoes, ginger, lemon grass, garlic and egg. The sauce was full-bodied and tasted a little spicy. Of course, this played an excellent supporting role to the star which was the freshly flown in lobster from North America. Firm, succulent and meaty best describe the lobster we had!

P9092076

I was trying to decide if I should opt for the steamed or grilled version of the Live Whole Lobster and went with the latter. Served with mesclun salad, sour cherry, balsamic dressing, shoestring fries and herbed butter sauce, this dish was truly a beauty waiting to be photographed from all angles. No I’m just kidding because more than half the kitchen staff would look amused. #truestory 😛

P9092078-tile

I absolutely love how the lobster was grilled to perfection! It was still chunky and juicy, plus the natural sweetness of the lobster really shined through. Paired with the herbed butter sauce, the taste of the grilled lobster was totally divine. My only gripe, however, was that my lobster had giu chwee (shrunk in size)! There was significantly lesser meat than what we had for the Chili lobster. Maybe the steamed lobster would have been a better choice!

P9092060

I rarely say this but service was attentive and top notch. Plates were changed, water was refilled, wet tissue packets were given out, all on a very prompt basis without us even having to ask!
Will we ever be back? Oh yes we will jio all our friends! Stay connected with us on Facebook www.facebook.com/missuschewy and on Instagram @missuschewy and @misterchewy 🙂

London Fat Duck at Scotts Square Review

20150812_203933 (1)-001

HOHO! Long time no meet misstamchiak! The last we met was at Chanelle’s one year old party in March. This woman is very busy lol but I’m touched that she remembered my birthday although she wished me one day earlier. *ahem* Ok la I better stop saying that she’s busy if not she will strangle me. Hahaha. Maureen asked me to pick a place and I chose London Fat Duck, knowing that she has not tried the food there!

P8121009

London Fat Duck is a Hong Kong-style restaurant, serving roast duck like the ones made famous by restaurants such as Four Seasons and Gold Mine in Bayswater, London. Using the best Irish Duck famous for its quality, the Signature London Roast Duck ($48.80 whole, $26 half, $12.80 regular) is also affectionately known as “Wagyu of Ducks”. Enhanced with their Hong Kong chef’s secret duck roasting technique and heritage recipe, the duck meat is tender and succulent but what really stole the show was that thick layer of fat underneath the thin crispy skin.

P8121029

Basically, we were there to whack their signature dishes so we ordered the London Roast Duck Noodle ($7.80) as well, even though we were already having half a roast duck. Over here, a roast duck drumstick is served together with thin springy noodles.

Don’t you agree that these Crispy London Duck Snow Buns ($4.80 for 3 pcs) look similar to Tim Ho Wan’s char siew buns? The buns were generously filled with juicy chunks of duck meat laden with sweet gravy.

P8121017

These slices of Barbeque Pork with Honey Sauce ($14.80) were also pretty tender with a slightly crisp exterior. I liked that there was a slight smokiness to it.

P8121035

I wouldn’t have thought of trying out the Signature Steamed Chee Cheong Fun ($5.80) if not for Maureen’s suggestion. Thankfully, the fried prawn rolls encased in steamed rice rolls turned out to be quite good! My only complaint is that they were too stingy with the sauce. Lol.

P8121026

I definitely wouldn’t recommend the London Duck Dumpling ($12.80) because it tasted way too weird. I couldn’t even make out what I was eating.

Thanks Maureen for the cakes from Chock Full of Beans and also, the generous birthday dinner treat!

The Benjamins Singapore Food Review

P8141074

If you have not heard of The Benjamins at Forum The Shopping Mall, then shame on you. Hahaha ok la just kidding. BUT seriously, if you are active on Instagram, it’s really quite impossible to not be bombarded with photos of these ridiculously colorful and over-the-top milkshakes that are currently available at The Benjamins, previously known as Benjamin Browns Bistro and Bakery. These milkshakes have taken social media by storm and during our visit last week, every table had at least one of these milkshakes.

P8141044-horz

The cafe is very small and seats no more than 30. Luckily I arrived early and managed to get a table while waiting for Mag. A crazy long queue started forming after 7.30pm and I could almost feel death stares in our direction as we were taking our own sweet time taking photos. LOL. #sorrynotsorry Everyone around us were also busying Instagramming the milkshakes lor!

P8141058

When I first took a quick glance at the menu, I realized the food at The Benjamins is quite expensive! Anyway, I went ahead to order the 200g Canadian Pork Chop ($25) because it was calling out to me. I must say that it didn’t disappoint as it was very succulent, just that it could be a little bit more tender!

P8141063

Mag had the 400g Duck Confit ($32) but wasn’t particularly impressed. She mentioned that at least the potato gratin was nice!

P8141051

We came here for THIS. Actually, we were planning to order one each since it’s so Instagram-worthy but the price is.. Ouch. Instead of vanilla, we opted for Old School Nutella Banana ($16) for the best of both worlds – it looks aesthetically pleasing and tastes yummy too! Vanilla would be too boring for our taste buds.

P8141065

HAHAHA did you notice that the cotton candy shrank and most of the iced gem biscuits rolled off the whipped cream?! I was also trying hard not to laugh out loud when a girl screamed because her ice cream cone fell out. LOLOLOL.

P8141068

We split the bill which came up to about $40++ per person. Cafe hoppers, please take note. Haha. If you just wanna find out what the milkshake hype is all about, then skip the mains and go for the shakes! 😉 Stay connected with us on Facebook www.facebook.com/missuschewy and on Instagram @missuschewy and @misterchewy 🙂

Dazzling Cafe Singapore Food Review

P8020935

Hello! The Chewys are back from our Bangkok trip and I met Pei Rong for my birthday dinner on Sunday evening. She suggested Dazzling Cafe at Capitol Piazza which was totally fine by me, except that I was a little hesitant because I dislike having to waste my precious time queuing. Dazzling Cafe doesn’t accept reservations so we agreed to meet at 5.30pm for dinner which is super early la!

P8020932

Indeed, there wasn’t any queue but we still had to wait for quite a bit before one of the service staff attended to us.

P8020912

We were whisked off to the second floor of the cafe which seats about 7 to 8 tables.

P8020923

Us and our mains! We wanted to order the SG50 promo set which includes 2 drinks, one choice of main (only two choices), one dessert toast, and then top up another main dish but turns out that this promo is only valid today onwards!

P8020917

My Mentaiko Spaghetti in Cream Sauce ($18.90) was marvelous! The spaghetti was al dente, and the white wine cream sauce wasn’t too rich or creamy. Topped with generous amounts of cod roe, my choice of main proved to be excellent.

P8020922

Pei Rong had the Spicy Seafood Tomyam Tomato Spaghetti ($22.90) which is a Singapore’s exclusive dish. She ‘donated’ her mussels to me and I think the taste of tomato kind of covered up the taste of tomyam quite a bit.

P8020914

And it’s time for DESSERTS! Whoohoo!!

P8020925

Keep seeing this Matcha with Azuki Beans Honey Toast ($19.90) being posted on Instagram so we know we just had to order this! Don’t you agree that it’s so pretty? Taste wise, it is quite good, and the matcha ice cream is seriously da bomb! We requested the toast to be crispy when being asked but felt that it still wasn’t crispy enough.

P8020927

Thanks Pei Rong for the birthday treat! See you really soon for yours! 😀

Our First Visit to Skinny Pizza!

P6260161

TGIF!! Decided to roll out yet another super short post today! I guess nobody’s interested in reading about what we had at Skinny Pizza but who cares? Hahaha. Yeah this pizza chain has been around for quite a while now and there are a total of 4 outlets in Singapore. We visited the one at Raffles City Shopping Centre after our trip to Cool De Sac, an indoor playground at Suntec City.

P6260162

We met up with Bee for dinner and after much consideration, decided on having pizza instead of ramen. Haha. So first up, we had a trio of starters to share amongst ourselves – Truffle fries, Sweet potato nibblets and Pork Sausage. Chanelle loved the truffle fries!

P6260157

The English Breakfast ($24) had just about everything. Smoked bacon, sunny side-up egg, roasted Roma tomatoes and mixed mushrooms on a roasted Neapolitan-style tomato sauce. Garnished with rocket, basil and Parmesan, this pizza was lip smackingly delicious!

P6260159

I love love love anything truffle so we also ordered the Wild Truffled Mushroom ($29)! It was so damn good and the mushrooms were so juicy! Honestly, I think I wouldn’t have any problem with polishing off the entire pizza on my own because the pizza is so… SKINNY! It didn’t really feel that substantial. Hehehe. *Glutton mode on*

P6260166

Will definitely visit Skinny Pizza again when the pizza craving hits! 😉 The service was also quite good!
