Bangkok for Kids: Kidzoona and Molly Fantasy

P7300507

When our friends knew about our plans to take Little misschewy along to Bangkok during my birthday week on the last week of July, many expressed their concern because Bangkok is popularly known as a shopping and eating paradise. Would having a young toddler in tow ruin our holiday plans? And more importantly, would Chanelle enjoy this trip or be bored to tears? Even though Chanelle is barely two years old, she sure knows how to play and have fun! With that, I planned our Bangkok itinerary with her interests in mind, in addition to ours. There are many things to do in Bangkok with kids but due to limited time, I shortlisted three main attractions in Bangkok for kids and families. I will first be introducing Kidzoona and Molly Fantasy in the first of my three-part series 🙂

P7300496

There are a number of indoor playgrounds scattered all over Bangkok but I decided on Kidzoona based on two very important factors:

1. Kidzoona is highly accessible as it is located on the 5th floor of Gateway Ekamai Mall, right next to Ekkamai BTS Station. Kidzoona allows re-entry on the same day, so parents and children can take a break at any of the cafes or restaurants within the mall. A few other indoor playgrounds that I had researched on are located away from BTS stations which can be rather inconvenient.

2. Kidzoona’s play areas and play structures are age-appropriate for young toddlers like Chanelle. I feel that some other indoor playgrounds like Funarium and KidZania, on the other hand, target older children about 4 years and up.

P7300497

Kidzoona and Molly Fantasy are two concepts under the Aeon Fantasy group, a Japan-based company which specializes in the operation of entertainment facilities for children in shopping centres. Apart from Japan and Thailand, Aeon Fantasy has also found its way around other Asian countries such as China, Vietnam, Cambodia, The Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia. All I want to say is.. Please come to Singapore soon!!

P7300499

Upon stepping into Molly Fantasy, we were greeted by a barrage of coin-operated kiddie rides and arcade games. Little misschewy loves to go on kiddie rides these days, but ain’t nobody got time for that! Besides the kiddie rides and arcade games, Molly Fantasy houses a large play area, Kidzoona, which is what we were there for. First, we had to fill in a form and pay upfront before entering Kidzoona. Adults pay a flat rate of 90 baht but the rates for children differ based on their height and are pricier on weekends.

P7300483

The green lockers are for you to store your personal belongings and valuables while the white lockers are meant for footwear. We were unlucky that the green lockers were unavailable so we had to constantly keep an eye on our bags.

P7300476

There are educational toys and books for the little ones. Saw a baby boy hammering away at a wooden xylophone. Super cute! It’s a great place for young ones to get warmed up before proceeding to the giant ball pool.

P7300481

P7300475

Lounge area where tired parents can take turns to rest and recharge. There’s even a massage chair to sooth those aching feet!

P7300400

This inflatable giant ‘hamster wheel’ is so cool!

P7300480

P7300408

One of the reasons why I enjoy taking Chanelle to the indoor playground is because she likes watching other children play and it brings a smile to her face.

P7300410

P7300433

Hahaha. The look on Little misschewy is like, “Mummy, can I play now?” We have not been to many indoor playgrounds in Singapore but the ball pool at Kidzoona is hugeeeee and attracts children of all ages!

P7300473

P7300417

P7300413

P7300421

P7300428

P7300479

Inflatable bouncy castle!

P7300434

Chanelle tried to climb up but it proved to be too steep!

P7300440

Papa Chewy to the rescue!

P7300436

WHEEEE! Chanelle asked to go on the slide at least another three more times! Good workout for Papa Chewy! Hahaha.

P7300478

This section of Kidzoona is quite similar to KidZania, where children are free to experiment and take on various roles in the ‘working field’. It was adorable watching how kids served their parents who acted as customers or patrons.

P7300464

P7300465

P7300461

P7300444

Of course, we couldn’t resist a photo of Little misschewy in one of these cute outfits! Her first part-time job at a burger shop! HAHAHA.

P7300446

“Hello! Burgers for you?” I whatsapped this photo to Chanelle’s godma, and she replied that she will BUY ALL THE BURGERS from Chanelle! So sweet can! LOL.

P7300449

Ooh! Look who’s a sushi chef? Irrashaimase!

P7300458

P7300455

Mummy is going to post a photo of this sushi platter on Instagram while my personal sushi chef prepares some hot green tea for me!

P7300466

The hubs and I are glad that the local children we met at Kidzoona are either well-mannered, or their parents are quick to intervene before things turn ugly between kids. Chanelle happened to pick up a toy which was left behind by a little boy and he took it back right out of her hands but his father immediately handed it back to Chanelle before pulling his boy away. This lovely girl didn’t push Chanelle out of the fire truck when Chanelle climbed in. In fact, she shifted herself to make more space for Chanelle. Her kind gesture truly surprised me because I have come across selfish kids who refuse to share.

P7300472

It was a joy watching the two girls smile and interact with each other and they occasionally waved at misterchewy and I!

P7300469

P7300491

We spent close to 2 hours in Kidzoona and paid another 40 baht for Little misschewy to go on this carousel ride before leaving Gateway Ekamai Mall. Besides keeping the little ones happy, it’s also a fantastic way to expend their energy so that parents can have a peaceful meal when their kids conk out after a few hours at the indoor playground 😉

Introduction to Sparkanauts Plus Trial Passes Giveaway!

Sponsored Review

P7120202

Earlier last month, we started Little misschewy on lessons at Sparkanauts. It was never our intention to send her to such classes as we believe that all children develop at their own pace; it doesn’t matter if they start walking at 10 months or are still crawling at 15 months. When they are ready to walk, they WILL walk. Little misschewy started to take her first few independent steps when she was around 15 months but most of the time, she had a strong preference to crawl. Honestly, it was kinda amusing to see a toddler crawl on all fours but we didn’t have an issue with that. We soon realized that the problem lies with Chanelle not being confident enough to walk without any forms of support and therefore, she chose not to walk but would crawl instead. I’m very thankful that Mama Liz introduced us to Steven from Sparkanauts as misterchewy and I were clueless about how we could instill confidence in Little misschewy and get her to walk independently without resorting to having to crawling.

P7120204

Sparkanauts aims to give each child an intellectual, physical and social edge in life and learning through specially design programmes that combine fun activities and research-backed teaching methods. Children learn best through play and this is exactly what Sparkanauts promote – holistic development through play. Steven proposed that Little misschewy attend the Cadet class which is targetted at toddlers between 12 months to 18 months of age. Every activity that we went through in class is designed to stimulate our child’s brains, while refining their physical abilities to move ahead. After attending a handful of sessions at Sparkanauts, I like how structured and well-organized the classes are. Chanelle is always fully engaged during the sessions which are 75 minutes long, inclusive of a 10-minute sharing session at the end of the class.

P7120206

Kids like routine and it’s comforting to see that Chanelle is able to adapt well to the classes conducted and led by Teacher Rachel, assisted by Teacher Beatrice. Each week, we start off with a boisterous welcome song and a round of flash cards to get warmed up.

P7120208

P7120212

Chanelle is being introduced a different theme each week. So far, she had been exposed to Meal Time, Shower, My Neighborhood, Swimming and Playground. Kids get to learn about things that are related to a particular theme. In the case of “Shower” for instance, Chanelle had been presented with flash cards with words and pictures of bath tub, shampoo, diaper, towel, powder, etc.

P7120213

There is never a dull moment at Sparkanauts!

P7120218

P7120224

P7120230

Circuit

During the circuit trainings, Chanelle got to walk up and down the ramps, climb up and down small steps, balance on the beam and crawl through tunnels. It is definitely a great and fun way to sharpen her balance and locomotor skills!

P7120253-horz

Fine motor skills are also being worked on during each class.

Trapeze

Chanelle’s favorite activity at Sparkanauts! Trapeze time!

P7120267

P7120271

P7120274

Interesting use of puppets to teach Chanelle how to jump left, right, up and down.

P7120278

Gym Ball

P7120289

For this relay activity, Chanelle had to pick up a piece of plastic fruit or vegetable one at a time, and walk to the other end to deposit it into another container.

P7120292

P7120296

This activity targets various areas of development such as hand-eye coordination, walking and balancing with a toy in one hand, bending down and getting up.

P7120300

The items in the Mystery Box differs each week.

P7120302

P7120303

During this particular session, Chanelle was tasked to pinch some plasticine and place the pieces on each tooth. Afterwards, she had to brush them off using a toothbrush. We didn’t manage to complete this activity as Chanelle was uncomfortable with the texture of plasticine and kept avoiding it when we waved the ball of plasticine in front of her. Teacher Rachel noticed that Chanelle is only comfortable with handling smooth surfaces but when it came to sticky or rough surfaces, she would cringe and turn away. Therefore, we had to expose her to more textures!

P7120317

Our term with Sparkanauts has not ended yet but misterchewy and I have started to see great improvements in Chanelle especially with regards to her physical development. If you are keen to experience what Sparkanauts has to offer, do take part in our giveaway contest! Sparkanauts is offering FREE trial sessions worth $58 each to two readers of missuschewy’s blog!

Father’s Day 2015

IMG_4010

Here’s sharing how we celebrated Father’s Day this year! 16 months on, I must say that misterchewy has been performing quite well as a hands-on father and he has more or less achieved all his KPIs. Hahaha. Chanelle is as attached to her dad as she is to me, or maybe she favors me a little more but I think she’s still quite fair when it comes to expressing her affection for the both of us. If she feeds me some of her snacks, she will feed her dad too. And when she kisses me on the mouth, she makes sure that misterchewy doesn’t get left out.

IMG_4009

I’m really happy to see both father and daughter sharing a strong relationship. Little misschewy is always calling out, “Papa! Papa!” even when the hubs isn’t home from work yet. It’s such a joy watching her eyes light up when misterchewy appears at the door step.

P6200007-001

As mentioned in one of my earlier posts, we were invited for a staycation at Hotel Kai and we left Chanelle with my parents. I planned the entire day’s programme which was a pretty simple and chillax one. First, we went to Manzoku for lunch!

P6200011-001

P6200005

Must Instagram before eating! Haha.

P6200015

The Chirashi ($25++) comes with miso soup and two slices of watermelon. I guess Manzoku should be quite well known by now for its thickly sliced sashimi, which nobody should be complaining about! Every mouthful was so satisfying!

P6200104

We returned to our hotel room to relax because we were feeling lazy lol. About one to two weeks ago, I made dinner reservations at Cook and Brew at The Westin because I’m a SPG member and I wanted to take the opportunity to earn double Starpoints (got ulterior motive lol). Also, Cook and Brew is located on the 33rd floor, so the view of Marina Bay had to be good!

P6200106

P6200103

P6200105

A32A6677

Kicking off our Father’s Day dinner celebration off with a pint of Erdinger each!

A32A6688

Sweet Potato Fries ($6)

A32A6695

Black Cod ($34)

P6200120

A32A6699

The Chicken Farm ($27)

P6200114

All in all, the food was very much overpriced and taste was mediocre. Would probably recommend Cook and Brew as a place to chill out with friends over some bar bites and a glass of beer or two.

A32A6703

The view was lovely though and we managed to catch a glimpse of the NDP rehearsal sans the fireworks.

P6200135

We decided to do desserts elsewhere and headed to Snowy Village, which is relatively near the hotel we stayed. I had always wanted to check this place out because the dessert shop is housed inside a metal container! How cool is that?

P6200134

P6200127

Having tried only the Injeolmi Bingsu at Bing Go Jung, I wanted to introduce misterchewy to this supposedly fantastic Korean dessrert but the Injeolmi Bingsu at Snowy Village was kinda crappy and left me feeling disappointed.

P6200130

The presentation of the bingsu was adorable though!

P6200125

Pouring in condensed milk to make the bingsu sweeter.

P6200132

P6210013

The next day was Father’s Day and we celebrated the occasion with both families at a seafood restaurant at The Grandstand. Stay connected with us on Facebook.com/missuschewy and Instagram @missuschewy and @misterchewy 🙂

The Chewys’ Tips for Flying with Family

_MG_6557

You may have noticed that we’re a family that likes to travel. We’re lucky to have visited such amazing places like Taiwan and Hong Kong and hope to visit many more soon. After we did our first overseas family photoshoot in Phuket earlier this year, we learned a lot about how to make traveling and flying with the family much easier.

_MG_5073

For us, half the fun of traveling comes with the amazing luxury hotels we get to stay at. Sometimes, we even enjoy our hotel staycations as much as our actual vacations. When planning for a trip to London, it’s hard to beat a family-owned hotel like the Athenaeum. We found this gem on British Airways’ flights to London page where the hotel got five stars from the airline. And by booking our rooms and our flight together, we’re able to stay in the kind of place we’ve always wanted. With an award-winning tea room, spa and hair salon all in the middle of Piccadilly, it was just what we were looking for in London. Also, booking rooms in advance when traveling with family is one of the big tips we picked up. You can get the family settled and comfortable the moment you arrive instead of scrambling to find yourselves a place to stay!

IMG_9329

Also, when you are traveling with children it’s important to take things slow and accept that you may not always be able to hit everything that you have on your schedule. That’s just one of the many pieces of sage advice we found on The Guardian’s 50 top tips for traveling with kids. That’s one of the reasons why finding a great hotel is so important for a great holiday. If the weather turns bad or a child gets sick, at least you can still try your best to relax and enjoy the rest of your vacation from a comfortable room!

photo 2
There’s so much to do and prepare and passports are only the beginning! It is also very important to know your terminal and the airport well before you show up for your flight. Some airports, like Heathrow, are so big and busy you could easily miss your flight trying to find the right gate. You should make yourself familiar with the layout ahead of time, especially if you’re also keeping track of little ones. It could take you almost an hour just to get from one terminal to another, so plan accordingly.

It’s also very helpful to try your best to pack light and pack smart. We like to prioritize items we may need for the kids like games, snacks and books for our carryon bags while putting bigger things like clothing and shoes in our actual luggage.

IMG_9221

Our flight to Phuket was very lucky as Chanelle was well behaved, but we know we won’t always be so fortunate. We were unable to get bassinet seats for that flight, but you can bet we won’t be going without them for our next one. Bassinet seats are one of the Telegraph’s top ten secrets to stress free travel and clip into the rear of the airplane’s bulkhead seats. This helps to save your lap and the backs of your fellow travelers hours of potential kicks and screams. It also gives us a little extra legroom, which is always nice.

BA_in_Flight_uschewy

We already can’t wait to go on our next vacation as a family and are glad that we were able to have the chance to give Little misschewy a trial run on her first overseas flight. It’s safe to say we’re excited to go even further for our next Chewy adventure!

Happy Willow Indoor Playground

P6050182

Hello chewys! I thought I’d share our experience after our recent trip to Happy Willow, an indoor playground at One KM Mall! There is also another Happy Willow at One North la but this is more convenient for us and the one at One KM is relatively newer since it was opened in December last year. I actually purchased a Groupon deal at about $8 quite some time ago and later found out that we didn’t save much because the admission fee for kids below 2 years of age is only $10 -_- Anyway it was expiring in one week so misterchewy and I took half day leave on a Friday. The voucher was valid on weekends too but we figured it might be crowded. The hubs and I went on a lunch date in Orchard to satisfy my chirashi craving before picking Little misschewy up from home. This is the very first photo of Chanelle that I caught on camera at Happy Willow! As you can see, her happy expression is priceless 🙂 Best $8 spent! Haha!

P6050185

I took into consideration that she would be crawling around for quite a bit so I dressed her in a casual Nike romper gifted by her Godma, Mag. Love the bright orange color and see how well it goes with the plastic balls from the ball pit? LOL.

P6050190-001

When the hubs carried her into the ball pit, she was a bit hesitant initially but was quick to break into a huge smile. Chanelle was so excited!

P6050191-001

P6050192-001

Yeah she chuckled until her saliva came out. HAHAHA. -_-

P6050194

P6050282

At the Toddler’s Turf, there is quite a bit of space for kids between the ages of 9 months to less than 3 years old to roam about. Great for little tots like Chanelle who was still learning how to walk!

P6050283

Vroom! Vroom!

P6050316

P6050203

I CAME IN LIKE A WRECKING BALL~~

P6050212

Mini rock wall!

P6050287

The Kids’ Den is recommended for children 2 years old and above but we went ahead anyway! I personally think it’s alright as long as kids are under close supervision by their parents.

P6050214

Don’t know what this is called but Chanelle was happily ‘galloping’ away!

P6050217

P6050224

P6050249

P6050227

Basically, Little misschewy was being carried around by misterchewy because there were some steps to climb before they could get to the top of the slide!

P6050229

P6050254

P6050261

P6050256

I see two kiddos in this photo. Hahaha.

P6050263

P6050264

Plenty of stuff to keep Little misschewy entertained!

P6050274

There is this mini trampoline area but of course, Chanelle is too young to know that she’s supposed to hop around in there.

P6050276

P6050278

There are also some puzzles and games.

P6050280

P6050288

We decided that Chanelle had enough of crawling around and brought her back to the Toddler’s Turf, but a different section this time.

P6050290

P6050294

My cousins bought a cooking set for Chanelle’s first birthday. I think she’s ready!

P6050302

P6050304

P6050289

Private rooms are also available to hold your parties. Happy Willow also offers a range of party items and services such as photography, balloon sculpting, souvenir pack, photo booth, etc.

P6050201

For a mere $10 on weekdays for unlimited play for children under 2 years old, we reckon it’s really reasonable and affordable. There’s a little cafe within Happy Willow so kids and adults can take a pit stop, or if you prefer to venture outside for your meals, Happy Willow allows re-entry. Little misschewy sure had a great time at Happy Willow and we will be back really soon! 😉

QuickGrab Fragranced Nappy Disposal Bags

Sponsored Review

A32A6548

I’m sure all mothers can easily name at least one must-have item in their bags when they head outdoors with their little ones. If you ask me, I never leave home without some QuickGrab Fragranced Nappy Disposal Bags. They are the most convenient, hygienic and fuss-free way of disposing soiled diapers, wipes and tissues at home or on-the-go. There were times where we found ourselves in a sticky situation (pardon the pun) when Little misschewy decides to poop in the car! We had to pull over to give her a diaper change there and then as she was whining and squirming in her car seat. Needless to say, on unlucky days when a rubbish bin is nowhere in sight, the rest of the ride becomes an unpleasant one with all windows wind down in a desperate bid to eliminate the overpowering stench.

A32A6550

We face a different problem at home. As Little misschewy is still not ready to be toilet-trained, we find ourselves going through several diaper changes in a day. Any parent will agree that dirty diapers smell from bad to worse over time and to prevent our sense of smell from becoming impaired, we force ourselves to dump the soiled diapers down the rubbish chute located outside our house, which is pretty much a hassle. Imagine having to walk out 5 to 6 times a day! For these above two situations mentioned, the QuickGrab Fragranced Nappy Disposal Bags are truly a lifesaver as we no longer have to make frequent trips to the rubbish chute outside our home and diaper changes in the car are not as unpleasant anymore.

11119751_1416585548663386_2688771139848101836_o

I was completely sold upon learning that QuickGrab nappy bags offer long lasting odour protection. Enough research and development had been carried out to ensure that the fragrance embedded into the nappy bags stays and diffuses into its surroundings, leaving a clean and fresh scent. I would say that this is QuickGrab nappy bags’ major selling point as many parents are highly bothered by the smell of soiled diapers.

A32A6571

As you can see from the photos above, a QuickGrab Grab Pack containing 125 bags is of an optimal size which will not take up much space in your bag. It is very convenient to bring along with you everywhere you go. You can also choose to bring only a handful of bags instead of the entire Grab Pack. The nappy bags are specially packed such that they get dispensed one bag at a time. All you have to do is simply tear along the perforated line and pull out a nappy bag.

A32A6599

No more having to hunt for used plastic bags that are saved from our grocery trips! I also like that these QuickGrab nappy bags are of the right size and the dark tint subtly disguises the contents within.

A32A6595

The easy-tie handles of the QuickGrab nappy bags also help to keep germs and bacteria locked in.

Check out www.quickgrab.com.sg for more information! These QuickGrab nappy bags are currently retailing at Vaby and Kulily at just $4.50 for a pack of 125 bags.

We will be giving away a complimentary pack of QuickGrab Fragranced Nappy Disposal Bags to three lucky winners! These bags will be delivered right to your doorstep!

Little Misschewy Had a Farm First Birthday Party!

IMG_5735

It has been almost a month since I received the photographs taken at Chanelle’s One Year Old Birthday Party in March! Over the years, I had been bombarded with photos of children’s birthday parties on Facebook and finally, it’s my turn! LOL. I was really excited when it came to the planning stage and it didn’t take me very long to decide on the theme, which was Little Misschewy Had a Farm, inspired by the classic nursery rhyme! I specially chose this because it was the first nursery rhyme my mum sang to Chanelle and she ALWAYS sings this. The party was held at one of the garden bungalows at Aloha Loyang. It’s very spacious, with a living room, kitchen and 4 bedrooms. However, I wouldn’t really recommend it for parties because the living room is not air-conditioned.

Apologies to the rest whom we didn’t manage to take photos with! Chanelle was extremely cranky by then because she was really tired and I believe she felt very uncomfortable as the living area wasn’t air-conditioned.

The hubby and I were on leave the next two days and that was how we celebrated Chanelle’s birthday in advance, in addition to her birthday trip to Hong Kong that week! More on that in separate blog posts! In the meantime, stay connected with us on Facebook www.facebook.com/missuschewy and on Instagram @missuschewy and @misterchewy 🙂

Toozo Town: Starring Your Child in Songs and Stories!

Advertorial

Toozo Town

In this day and age, we find it increasingly difficult to function without technology. I will have to admit that I absolutely cannot live without my smartphone. I rely on it so much that when I’m with Chanelle, I find it impossible to put my phone away even for a few minutes. I think it’s because of this, Chanelle finds my phone more attractive than all her other toys and books. Sometimes I play nursery rhymes via YouTube but Chanelle doesn’t sit still for more than 2 minutes, thus leaving me at my wits’ end.

A world of joyful learning

Recently, I was introduced to Kloneworld, a group of storytellers with a twist. Kloneworld passes on stories that inspired and entertained us when we were kids, onto the next generation by using a mix of technology and creativity. Instead of plain books and videos, Kloneworld puts us inside the movies, animations, comic books and toys we enjoy. When we can actually see ourselves star in our own movies and comics, we enjoy an unmatched personalized storytelling experience like no other! Sounds interesting? You bet! The Chewys had a wonderful time bonding over the unique, fun and educational Kloneworld ToozoTown, a virtual world where kids can see their avatars come to life.

How to take a good photo

To get started, simply download Kloneworld for FREE and sign up for an account. In order to start making your Klones, you need to upload passport type photos for best results. Ideally, there should be even light without shadow on face, face should be looking at camera with mouth closed and forehead visible.

Manage Klones

Tadah! Here are The Chewys’ Klones! It was very tough to take a proper photo of Little misschewy who refused to keep still and look straight at the camera. Thank goodness her avatar turned out to be irresistibly adorable!

Kloneworld Videos

Everyone starts off with 1000 koins upon signing up. Some of the content are free, while others can be redeemed with koins.

The very first product that we created was the “Welcome to Toozo Town” video. The content took only a couple of minutes to be generated and a notification will be sent to your email account.

We are very impressed by how realistic our avatars are! Kloneworld cleverly makes the Klones perform a wide range of expressions and actions such as blinking, smiling, talking, singing, and dancing, etc.

Chanelle loves the videos that I had created for her! I think it was probably her 5th or 6th time watching the Welcome to Toozo Town video but she was so captivated by her own avatar that she kept her eyes glued to the screen and was seen ‘dancing’ to the music.

123 father daughter

I am especially fond of the videos that put mummy/daddy and child together!

Cuteness overload! Even misterchewy couldn’t resist replaying the video a few times!

Besides videos, you can also create books.

Kloneworld Toozo Town is not all about fun and games. There is also an educational aspect that imparts moral values through traditional stores like The Fox & The Crow, and The Boy Who Cried Wolf.

Kloneworld Printed Books

You know what’s really cool? You have the option of purchasing the printed version of the book which you created! At just SGD9.99, you get a paperback A4 sized color printed book with your very own Klone in it!

Have Fun!

After two weeks of playing around with Kloneworld Toozo Town, I am convinced that kids will benefit from this educational app through knowledge and values imparted by the various stories. Kloneworld is a Singaporean company, launching its first product exclusively in Singapore, and then the rest of the world. You may download the FREE app HERE! Some of the paid content can be redeemed with koins, which you can earn by inviting friends to use the app. Have fun!
