The Surprise Proposal @ Once Upon A Milkshake

_MG_1976eded

Yes. I am officially engaged πŸ™‚ It’s not that I didn’t see this marriage proposal coming. Yeah how can I be so sure? It’s because we work backwards. Last Sept/Oct, after seeking approval from our parents, we balloted for a BTO flat 3 months into dating and was very lucky to get a nice queue number! Location is ideal and we will be staying around the 20th floor (bye to smelly garbage trucks)! Everything went very smoothly and we decided that we will tie the knot in Sept this year. Subsequently, we found a photographer for our engagement shoot and also booked a venue for our solemnization ceremony in Feb. So, apart from the wedding cake and invitation cards, we were only left with one thing — the marriage proposal!
Two crucial questions: 1) WHEN is he going to propose? and 2) HOW is he going to propose?

On 25th June 2011, Chewy Charles went down on one knee and proposed to me at Once Upon A Milkshake (Maxwell outlet). Even till now, I’m extremely overwhelmed by this whole episode. The tremendous effort that he put into preparing this surprise really touched my heart. There are just some things that money cannot buy. I’m simply amazed by how willing and determined Chewy Charles was in the making of the video and of course it would not have been possible without the help of his university buddies from his fydp group. πŸ™‚

So how did I end up at OUAM if it was meant to be a surprise? Chewy Charles roped in our fellow food blogger friends and so, a couple of days before, Maureen texted me that the rest would be going for a tasting and asked if I wanted to go. She even asked me to ask Chewy Charles to join in. I remembered him telling me that he had to collect his transcript at NTU two weeks ago. Boys and girls, open your eyes and look. This is how a fake tasting session would look like. Hahaha!

After ordering our milkshakes, Maureen took a Macbook from the OUAM staff and told us to watch the ‘media kit’ which came in the form of a video clip. Now i’m wondering how could I not have sensed anything amiss when most of them were standing behind me.

Watching the video intently.. That’s Derrick filming me! Sneaky! Haha.

I have to say that I was very surprised and also mildly amused when I saw Chewy Charles in the video πŸ™‚

And then god knows what happened. I CRIED! It was embarrassing I tell you. Those weren’t tears of joy. I was actually crying uncontrollably. Tears kept streaming down my face. If I were alone, I swear I could have wailed out loud. That was how touched I was. Anyway, nobody offered me tissue! So sad leh. πŸ™ Lol!

Haha ok after relating so much about how I felt.. Here’s the proposal video! :))

Well, I don’t know what’s with this expression. I think this was how I looked like when my heart ached for the silly boy upon thinking how much he must have gone through in the process of making this video. I once cried when he accidentally cut his thumb. I’m crazy right.

Still tearing.. Kai was keeping a lookout for Chewy Charles and his surprise party of 9. When the video was coming to an end, he gave a thumbs up sign and they marched over.

The first thing that Chewy Charles asked me was, “Aiyo! Why you cry until like that?!”

Each one of our 9 friends who formed the surprise party came in holding a heart on stick, forming the words, “PLS MARRY ME”. Chewy Charles contributed to the last letter.

Chewy Charles recited a great deal and I really cannot remember his exact words. I don’t even think I managed to digest what he had said! I was asking myself if this was all just a dream.

After Chewy Charles popped the question, I whispered, “Uhhhh what should I say?” Hahaha fail. It was his idea to pick out ‘Y’, ‘E’ and ‘S’.

This is one of the extremely rare photos of Chewy Charles smilingly so happily! Haha horrible la, there were still tears in my eyes! But anyway, both of us look really happy huh? πŸ˜€

Me: “Huhhhhhh..” while eyeing the diamond ring at the same time.

We sincerely want to thank our food blogger and twitter friends (Maureen, Kai, Rey, Derrick, Yan Cai, Jia Yi, Rae, Joyce, Lisa and Ellena). The ‘tasting session’ would not have been possible without them πŸ˜‰ And thanks for all the amazing photos!

IMG_2776

Chewy Charles decided to contact this particular group of my jc girl friends (Alicia, Esther, Nicolez and Joyce) because he figured that if there were any form of leakage, it would seem not as suspicious because he had not met them in person and were not friends with them on facebook. Thanks to these wonderful girl friends who acted as part of the surprise team and took time off to witness this proposal.

And of course, not forgetting this very important and supportive group of NTU friends (Kai Yang – not in picture, Sin Yee, Kelvin, Hong Ming, Cheng Wei and Joel) who without any complaints (I hope! Haha), helped Chewy Charles in directing, filming and editing the video. They braved the sun and the rain and their efforts are appreciated.

We had been toying with this idea for quite some time already and we think that this is a good time to do so. Fellow bloggers who have previously added Foodoshoot to your blog roll, please spend two minutes of your time to change it to missuschewy ok? πŸ˜‰ We will be going by this name from now on! Hope everyone enjoyed this special post! The full set of photos can be found here. πŸ™‚

Sundown Half Marathon 2011: Sleep Can Wait. Beat the Sunrise.

IMG_0768ed

A few months back, Chewy Charles and I registered for the Sundown half marathon race category! 10km is a breeze (ok la not really a breeze but compared to 21km you know what i mean) so we wanted to push our limits. I took part in the half marathon for last year’s Sundown run and clocked less than 3 hours so I thought that if we were to train like how I did before, everything should be alright! Haha but we didnt have time for any form of proper training at all πŸ™ Psst.. We were too busy eating! Haha! Yeah absolutely no training. And here we are, on the shuttle bus from Expo MRT station to Changi Exhibition Centre!

IMG_0769ed

Due to the traffic jam, we managed to reach the race site only 15 minutes before the flag off. The place was freaking crowded! I think some of them completed the 10km race as they were sitting down, all hot and sweaty. Hurriedly grabbed another fellow participant to help take a photo for us before we dropped off our barang barang at the baggage deposit counter πŸ™‚

IMG_0771ed

Looking all excited before the flag off! πŸ˜€ Actually, we had to drag ourselves out of bed (yup we took an afternoon nap) because we felt like we needed more sleep. Plus, the thought of not having trained at all for the run made us feel kinda worried. But when we reached the race site, there was some kinda adrenaline rush even though we have not even started running! Haha.

page

Just minutes before the flag off, we spotted a few of our friends here and there. The first few kilometres were quite ok and then barely halfway through the race, my stomach felt a little queasy. The main culprit that I could think of at that point of time was the few pieces of curry chicken I ate just a few hours ago. Yeah of all things, I had to eat curry before a run. The rest of the race was a bit of a mess. We jogged, we walked, we continued to walk hand in hand, and then we decided to race each other by sprinting, got breathless and did more walking, started to jog whenever we saw the next hydration point. Yeah all these went on and on until the last 5km! Our legs felt as heavy as lead. Now we know what it really feels like! Every step ahead required so much effort. Besides that, my butt ached like crazy and I was doing half squats along the way to stretch my butt muscles. Chewy Charles had to stop me because he claimed that I looked like I was shitting. Then finally, we decided to run the last kilometre. And the last kilometre felt like eternity. We eventually made it to the finishing line, hand in hand, with camera lights flashing at us!

IMG_0776

Sleep can wait. Beat the sunrise. Haha but all we wanted to do after the race was to lie down and sleep! Oh actually we had some energy left in us to queue up to get some sausages πŸ˜›

IMG

If this photo backdrop was a real bed, we would definitely jump right in! πŸ˜› There was a pretty long queue for the two photo booths, each featuring a different backdrop. We were allowed four different poses, the fourth and last pose would be used as the largest photo. Haha by the time it got to our turn, our minds went blank! Too tired! We managed to fumble a little and get into the correct poses as the timer counted down 3…2…1! πŸ˜›

IMG_0001

Let’s make excellent happen. Oh yeah. πŸ˜‰ This is our second time taking part in a race together, our first being last year’s Nike run! We will definitely keep running together and reach the finishing line hand in hand πŸ™‚

Island Escapade: We love the sun, sand & sea!

DSC00378com

Hello I’m back! I went on a short getaway to Redang over the weekend. This photo was taken as our ferry was approaching the island. It was definitely very comforting to see cloudy blue skies and crystal clear waters! πŸ™‚

zipai

We love taking self-shots! Clockwise from top left: At the MRT station, on the coach, at Shahbandar jetty, on the ferry! πŸ™‚

DSC00356com

The bus journey took about 8 hours and it was around 7am when we reached Shahbandar jetty. Super early la!

IMG_7337

The earliest ferry would only set off at 9am, so we sat around and chatted since none of the shops were open that early. Here’s a group shot! It’s my first time travelling with such a big group. All of them are Chewy Charles’ friends from NTU πŸ™‚

DSC00380com

After such a long long journey, we have finally reached Redang! Yipeeeee!

And that’s all for Day One of our trip! πŸ™‚

DSC00470com

No hangover la. We look tired because we need like at least 10 hours of sleep a day. Haha!

DSC00474com

I’m really not kidding about the sleepy part! Chewy Charles immediately plonked himself onto the hammock the moment he caught sight of it.

DSC00485com

Managed to drag him out of the hammock and we took a stroll along the beach πŸ™‚

Jumpshot! Yippeeeeee! πŸ˜›

Haha Chewy Charles looks like he’s taking off! Whoohoo!

We had two snorkelling trips scheduled on Day Two. We looked really happy yeah? πŸ˜€

It was a short boat ride from our resort to the Marine Park! Psst.. We smuggled bread from the resort cafeteria so that we could feed the fishes! πŸ˜›

We had some time to kill after lunch since the next snorkelling trip was not going to take place until 2.30pm. Yup we brought Sally & John with us! πŸ™‚

No trip to Redang is complete without stopping by More More Tea Inn <3 We bought some souvenirs and had ice cream!

The black stuff looks gross doesn’t it? It’s actually sea cucumber! Yummy! Hahaha! I think Chewy Charles almost cried when I tried swimming towards him with the sea cucumber. Really funny! πŸ˜›

I find that More More Tea Inn actually looks nicer at night with all the lightings.

DSC00610com

You are the love of my life πŸ™‚

DSC00611com

The boys gathered for a photo too! Not a case of Bromance I hope?! Haha!

DSC00622com

My heart skips a beat each time I see this. Oh how I miss diving! I didnt dive this time because I had just recovered from fever that week πŸ™ Plus, I would be missing out on the awesome company if I went diving alone! πŸ™‚

DSC00623com

Time to bid goodbye to Redang! We had breakfast at the resort and departed via ferry at 6.30am.

DSC00639com

image002

Now, this is bad. I’m beginning to miss the sun, sand and sea! I have my eye of Nikoi Island! I first got to know about this place when I picked up a dive magazine at a local bookstore. Nikoi is a 15-hectare island located about 8km off the east coast of Bintan Island in Indonesia.

image003

What’s so special about Nikoi? It’s one of the most stunning islands! Just look at this photo! I could lie there all day long sipping Tiger beer! πŸ˜›

image004

Being a scuba diver has taught me a lot about being more sensitive to our environment. Conservation and consideration of environmental issues have been a priority in the formulation of the overall development strategy for Nikoi. I’m won over already!
