Hello everyone! We are happy to announce that Missuschewy has been selected as a Fisher-Price Play IQ Ambassador Mum! Since young, I have always been an ardent fan of Fisher-Price toys and never had a dull moment playing with them. Now that we have Little misschewy, it is only natural that I select the one brand that I can trust when it comes to buying toys for her. Of course, when I was invited to be a part of the Fisher-Price team, I knew I couldn’t say no!

Daddies and mummies out there, do you know that children learn through play? Play is the most effective method for children to develop their brain in meaningful ways that will lay the foundation for learning as they grow. Children absorb the most and their brain develop rapidly during the first five years of life. As caregivers, we need to understand how play really does benefit our children physically, cognitively and emotionally. The key point is not just playing, but HOW children actually play that makes the difference! Fisher-Price highlights the importance of giving children the right toys at the right developmental stage to help them reach their fullest potential. The only way to go about doing so is to first measure your child’s Play IQ, a tool developed by Fisher-Price which assesses a child’s level of development in three key pillars: Physical, Cognitive and Social & Emotional.

It’s all about choosing the right toys at the right developemental stage!

You can find out your child’s Play IQ here! Baby Chanelle is a Small World Explorer, displaying a high physical and cognitive play IQ. Not only does the Play IQ tool recommend toys that are suitable for your child depending on his or her play persona, it goes on to share your child’s development plan and upcoming milestones! How cool is that? I invite all daddies and mummies to join me on this journey to find out how you can help your child achieve his fullest potential! I will also be conducting a givewaway at the end of it all!

Chanelle’s Milestones at 8 Months Old!

HY-04-3G_RAW

Our little chub chub is 8 months old today! We didn’t realize how much Chanelle has grown until we met misterchewy’s buddy’s 2 month old baby girl a couple of weeks back. When the two babies were placed side by side, Little misschewy didn’t seem so little after all. Suddenly, I felt a lump in my throat and wished that time would slow down. On a more positive note, now that Chanelle is older, she is full of surprises and never fails to make us laugh with all her cute antics! 🙂

HY-04-3H_RAW

Physical Growth: The last time Chanelle had her length measured was about a month ago when she had her last vaccination for this year. It should be around 70cm now. She weighs slightly over 8kg. Both her length and weight are around 70th percentile. I was concerned that her growth has slowed down a little but the nurses at the polyclinic reassured me that this is very normal. I thought that Chanelle should have cut at least a tooth by now, but no! She’s still bogay! LOL.

Feeding: Chanelle has not shown much interest in food and all attempts to let her self feed were not successful. She tends to hurl her food, so BLW is out for now! I bought a box of Ella’s Kitchen’s cheese and tomato puffits from Meidi-Ya at Liang Court and Chanelle loves it. Recently, we also discovered that she likes Nestle’s Celerac rice with mixed vegetable and rice with chicken. Other than that, Chanelle is still largely on breastmilk.

HX-01-0U_RAW

Social: This girl is cheekier than ever! She knows how to fake cry (without tears) by squeezing her eyes shut and going “oooooh~ oooooh~”. Super amusing! Just thinking about it makes me wanna laugh. Chanelle has also started to show signs of being able to assess and imitate moods. One good example took place a couple of weeks ago in the nursing room. A baby next door was crying and Chanelle began to cry too. She also displayed stranger anxiety on certain occasions. Currently, Chanelle gets very tickled when we play peek-a-boo with her by covering her with a blanket.

Language: Chanelle has started to vocalize a range of sounds, of which the most distinct one is “papa”. She also raises her hand in excitement when we say “gimme five!”

Motor Skills: Chanelle is able to sit upright without toppling over and she crawls towards my iPhone most of the time. Sometimes, she crawls backwards. Haha. She is learning how to pull herself up these few days! I have to admit that it’s energy draining having to take care of Chanelle because she is very active and is constantly reaching out to grab something.

The above photos were taken by photographers from Live Studios at my cousin’s wedding at Four Seasons Hotel early November. Chanelle had a photoshoot last week so stay tuned for the photos! Bebe en Blanc Mini Gathering for Eastie Mummies and Babies

IMG_7580

Happy mid week everyone! Sorry for the lack of updates because I simply have no energy to blog lately. Work is kinda crazy and I have been sleeping really early these days. As I had mentioned before, I joined this particular mummies group on FB and because there are too many of us, we further split ourselves up into zones depending on our residential areas. Back in August, we had a mini gathering for the Eastie mummies and babies! The theme was Bebe en Blanc and babies had to be dressed in white. Hehe! All photos in this post were taken by one of the photographers from Lumiere Photography, which our kind host Christine hired and paid for. Thanks Chris! 🙂

IMG_7602

That’s my hand supporting Little misschewy because she couldn’t sit up well at that time. Anyway I love all the photos taken by the photographer but I selected those that I like best to be featured in this blog post. Hope I didn’t miss out on any of our adorable babies!

Hotel Clover The Arts Singapore Staycation Review

Sponsored Staycation

IMG_4415

Having stayed in a number of hotels in Singapore, our recent staycation in an art-themed boutique hotel was a first for us. Hotel Clover The Arts, situated in Chinatown, is a 6-storey and 44-room hotel which opened in April this year. This new hotel builds on its conviction to create a unique arts experience through its individually-themed rooms. Designed in styles as diverse as retro kitsch, urban street art, Pop Art vibrance and line art minimalism, each room in Hotel Clover The Arts creates its own distinctively unique experience.

_MG_4413

In a bold move to lend a voice to the Singapore’s brand of creativity, Hotel Clover The Arts invited students from different arts and design schools in Singapore to participate in a mural competition for 19 rooms. Independent professional artists were also commissioned to create art for Hotel Clover The Arts, including local artist Ceno2, who has his own distinctive brand of aerosol art, otherwise known as ‘Graffiti Fine Art’.

_MG_4411

Ceno2’s work can be found in the lobby of the hotel. The idea behind incorporating Singapore’s iconic attractions onto public spaces of the hotel is to create a talking point to encourage guests and staff to mingle by sharing stories, experiences and memories of subjects which they hold dear to their heart.

_MG_4430

As strange as it may sound, we felt that we could very much connect with the hotel because of all these paintings of Marina Bay Sands, Singapore Flyer and the like. It certainly gave us a sense of home.

IMG_4343

Love the cute idea of having a little sneak preview of each hotel room.

IMG_4196

We took the lift and checked out every floor of the hotel. Interestingly, you will be able to find the painting of a black cat on most levels. Kudos to the artist who managed to cleverly incorporate unsightly elements into the murals across all lift lobbies, transforming different corners of the hotel into a visual feast.

IMG_4342

As mentioned previously, each of the 44 rooms feature artworks which are strikingly different, ranging from stunningly picturesque mountainscapes to vintage-inspired comic art.

IMG_4197

Because each room is different, you will be guaranteed a whole new experience and an element of surprise each time you stay with the hotel. Perfect reason to keep heading back!

Mount Fuji Room
Photo Credit: Hotel Clover The Arts

We had the privilege of staying in this beautiful Arts King room, the highest of the 6 room categories available. Once again, Ceno2 lends his signature touch of creative genius to a breathtaking mural of Mount Fuji, depicting nature at its best – amidst clear blue sky, crystal waters and inspired forals. We were simply blown away by the magnificence of our room, not so much in terms of its space, but the dazzling beauty of Mount Fuji and cherry blossoms.

_MG_4235-tile

_MG_4281

All rooms come with a postcard featuring the design of the room, for guests to bring home as a momento or keepsake. It might seem as a small gesture but I think it’s a really nice personal touch.

_MG_4292

The 3 Arts King rooms at Hotel Clover The Arts include the following:

– Fully air-conditioned with individual control
– Laptop-sized safe
– Branded bathroom amenities
– Hairdryer
– Laundry & dry ceaning service
– Nescafe Dolce Gusto coffee machine
– Daily housekeeping service
– LED HDTV with satellite channels
– Complimentary Internet & local calls
– Iron & ironing board (upon request)
– Secured key card locking system

IMG_4401

We took a little tour around the hotel and guess what we found! A giant tea cup!

IMG_4188

There is a roof terrace garden where guests are welcome to unwind with a book or even do yoga. Hotel Clover The Arts does not have a swimming pool but guests can hop over to its sister property Hotel Clover 5 Hong Kong Street and utilize its swimming pool there.

IMG_4338

Art lovers will appreciate the striking scenic view of a larger-than-life waterfall which literally cascades down the external facade of the hotel, bringing a charming and quaint feel to the quiet evening. The best time to check this out is early in the morning or late evening before the sky turns dark.

_MG_4348

I checked that the hotel does not provide baby amenities, so we brought Little misschewy’s inflatable tub along. Doesn’t she look like she’s having a whale of a time soaking in an onsen with an awesome view of Mount Fuji? 😛

_MG_4367

According to Hotel Clover The Arts’ Facebook page, their comfortable and fluffy guest room beds have 350 thread which will make you feel like you are sleeping on a cloud. We couldn’t agree more!

IMG_4372

There were only 3 to 4 tables but thankfully, the table turnover rate was high. Even though the breakfast selection was limited, the food surpassed my expectation! Even misterchewy who doesn’t usually have much of an appetite in the morning, went for a second helping.

IMG_4371

IMG_4376

_MG_4280

We certainly had a very memorable stay at Hotel Clover The Arts. Waking up in the Mount Fuji room made us feel like a million bucks! Yoomi Feeding System Warms Baby’s Milk in 60 Seconds Plus Giveaway!

Sponsored Review

IMG_6166

It is Little misschewy’s feeding time. She is hungry and red-faced from all the crying (actually, in the above photo, she was just acting cute 😛 ). It takes like forever to warm chilled expressed breast milk packed from home. I have been through this situation many times and it is highly stressful for first time parents especially during the initial stage as newborns are not easily distracted when they are hungry. They want their milk and they want it NOW. In the past, I resorted to feeding formula milk as the time taken to prepare is much shorter compared to warming breast milk. Is this the best solution? Obviously not. Yes, breastfeeding mummies can always nurse in public but some babies do not latch on, and not all babies enjoy being nursed under a nursing cover. This is especially true when they get older, as they tend to reach out and grab everything within reach, which includes tugging at nursing covers and threatening to expose their mummies!

240ml_bottle_warmer+pod_pack&productsCUTOUT

When Agnes from AT Marketing Consultancy invited me to review the award-winning Yoomi feeding system by Yoomi Singapore, I readily agreed without much consideration because the idea of an innovative self-warming bottle providing perfect breast milk temperature feed in just 60 seconds and then staying warm for an hour sounds like something which will change my life in a positive way.

A bit about Yoomi:

– No-fuss latch on: natural breast-shaped and super-soft silicone teat which allows for a breast-from-breast experience
– Transition sorted: consistent breast milk temperature feed provided by Yoomi, babies have a familiarity they need to support weaning from breast to bottle
– Reduced likelihood of colic with its 6 anti-colic vents (most bottles have 1-4)
– Easy pouring and mixing: Yoomi’s unique, wide-necked bottle makes pouring and mixing simple – as well as clean and tidy
– Convenient: being suitable for both expressed breast-milk and formula, and ideal for combination or bottle feeding. Yoomi supports all babies’ feeding needs
– Comfy grip: the ergonomically designed bottle makes Yoomi easy to grip and more comfortable to hold during longer feeds
– Safe: the Yoomi range is 100% BPA free and meets the highest safety standards feeding
– Beautifully simple: using patented technology, the Yoomi pod enables warmers to be recharged in the microwave in just 2 mins using a ‘heat-shake, heat-shake’ method

IMG_6123

Yoomi feeding system is actually very simple. Firstly, the warmer needs to be charged. There are a few ways to do so but my favorite method is to let it boil for 30 minutes. Once the warmer is fully charged, there will be a clear rattling sound when you shake it. Allow the warmer to cool for at least 75 minutes at room temperature or 20 minutes in cold water before using.

IMG_6124

Another method of charging is to place the warmer in the charging pod before heating it in the microwave using the “heat shake heat shake” method. I personally find this method less straightforward, so I prefer to use the boiling method.

IMG_6167

Place the warmer in the Yoomi bottle and fill it with baby’s feed before heading out. Hungry baby eyeing her milk!

IMG_6173

The Yoomi warmer, which contains the same gel used in hand warmers, is activated by simply pressing the orange button. By using a clever ‘phase change’ material (meaning it changes from a liquid to a solid), Yoomi generates heat.

IMG_6174

When the bottle is tipped, the cold feed is gently warmed as it flows around the specially designed channels on the outside of the warmer. By the time the feed reaches the teat, it is at natural breast milk temperature (32-34˚C). All these take place in just 60 seconds. The warmer has been cleverly designed so that it cannot overheat the feed and stays warm for up to an hour.

IMG_6180

Happy baby = Happy mummy! Chanelle didn’t have to wait too long for her milk this time and she’s taking really well to the Yoomi bottle which is not surprising because of its natural breast-shaped and super soft silicone teat.

IMG_6182

I like how convenient it is now to bring out chilled breast milk for Little misschewy’s feeds but the warmer can only be used for one feed by staying warm for up to an hour. It is recommendeded that mummies buy a few warmers and charge all of them together so that the warmers can last you long hours while you are on the move.

IMG_6169

Tula Carrier from Baby Carrier Singapore

Sponsored Review

IMG_4622

Babywearing simply means wearing your baby in a sling or carrier. According to Dr. William Sears, a paediatrician, there are plenty of benefits associated with babywearing such as establishing a more intimate bond between mother and child through close physical contact, and enhancing baby’s motor skills by exposing him/her to a variety of sights, sounds and motions just to name a few.

IMG_4092

There are so many types and brands of carriers in the market that shopping for the perfect one becomes a mind boggling affair. Thanks to Baby Carrier Singapore, I was introduced to the colorful world of Tula carriers. The founders of Tula are a husband and wife team with three young children. They experienced how convenient babywearing was and how much it benefits both parent and child that they started to manufacture their own wraps and carriers. To be honest, I initially had some difficulty wearing the Tula carrier the right way as it was my first time babywearing. But Angela, owner of Baby Carrier Singapore is really helpful and always ready to offer me tips and advice over whatsapp such that soon enough, I was able to strap up my Tula on my own with great ease and confidence. In this photo, I’m wearing a black/gold stripe nursing dress from Eve of Eden.

IMG_4097

With the numerous articles circulating around with regards to hip dysplasia, parents and caregivers are encouraged to choose a baby carrier that allows healthy hip positioning, in addition to other safety considerations. Soft-structured carriers like Tula allow babies to sit in the desired “M” position when worn. This position (also known as the “frog position”) means that baby’s knees are higher than his bottom and his legs are spread apart naturally, which is beneficial for hip and spine development.

IMG_4111

In case you are wondering, Tula carriers allow front and back carry. So far I have only tried carrying Chanelle on my front because anxious mummy here cannot let her baby go out of her sight and back-carry is recommended only after six months of age. The maximum weight that Tula standard carriers can support is around 20kg. There’s something very amazing about Tula carriers. Do you know that you can use Tula to carry your newborn and toddler, all the way till your child is about 4 year old? Just by attaching the Tula “Free to Grow” extensions to the panel of the carrier, you can comfortably wear your older children. For parents with toddlers, you can also opt for the toddler version which allows you to wear your child from about 18 months old (and/or about 11kg) till 4-5 years old.

IMG_2970

Tula carriers fit a wide range of babywearing body types simply because Tulas are super adjustable. Just by extending the shoulder straps, anyone can utilize a Tula. Even my dad enjoys babywearing Chanelle!

_MG_3284

It also makes nursing in public easy, even more so when the panels are so huge – 15.5″ tall and 14.5″ wide, providing more coverage and privacy. Just loosen the panel straps in front a little to breastfeed on the go. Really convenient!

IMG_4113

I also love the additional padding in shoulder straps and child’s leg area for extra comfort. My shoulders do not ache even after half a day of babywearing Chanelle, who is around 8kg right now.

IMG_4618

Chanelle enjoys the Tula carrier as much as I do! She’s like my little koala bear, often peeking out of the carrier to observe her surroundings. She also falls asleep in the Tula very easily! Both misterchewy and I are just so amazed.

tulafoxy-tile

Last but not least, I gotta emphasize that Tula carries the widest range of carriers in various prints and designs; you will definitely be spoilt for choice! Here are just a few of the many designs that are available, of which Foxy and Oasis are the latest arrivals. How cute! The quirky Tula carrier designs are a bold fashion statement on its own and brighten up even the dreariest outfits. I was gifted the Retro Bikes Tula carrier which is really cute and perfect for babywearing on a casual weekend when misterchewy and I go around cafe hopping.

Tula carriers retail at $229 onwards which includes free local delivery and can be purchased at www.babycarriersingapore.com.

Chanelle’s Milestones at 6 Months Old!

_MG_3778

Baby Chanelle turns 6 months old today! As cliche as it sounds, time flies! I was looking at all the photos of Little misschewy taken since birth and I couldn’t help but feel very emotional that my baby girl is growing way too fast :’) A part of me wants to see Chanelle learning new things and achieving developmental milestones, yet another part of me wants her to remain as mummy’s cute little baby. I had charted Chanelle’s developmental milestones when she was 4 months old, and here’s her updated reported card at 6 months old 🙂

Physical Growth: As of last week, Chanelle was approximately 67cm in length and weighed 7.86kg. She’s in the 70th – 75th percentile for both aspects. I’m happy that she has more than doubled her birth weight and she still has those ‘Michelin’ arms and legs. However, her face looks a little smaller and less round as compared to when she was about 4 months old. I’m not sure if Chanelle is teething as she has not cut her first tooth yet but she’s always munching on three or four fingers at a time.

Feeding: I’m really proud to declare that I have attained my goal of breastfeeding Chanelle for 6 months! Now that I have reached the 6-month mark, I’m aiming to continue breastfeeding for another 6 months. My work is going to get more hectic next month on and I do hope that I can persevere for the sake of my darling girl. On a positive note, Chanelle should be starting on solids anytime now so hopefully, I can drop a pump session or two from my daily pumping routine within the next few months. I know that some mummies give their little ones solids as early as 4 months but I have read that it’s best to wait till they turn 6 months old. So yeah, baby led weaning, here we come! 🙂

_MG_3768

Social: When Chanelle is in the company of people she is familiar with (misterchewy and I, and our family members), she is always flashing her brightest smiles. Smile until cannot see eyes that kind. Haha. She is also easily tickled by funny noises that we make and also chuckles hysterically when misterchewy and I pin her down on our bed and take turns to rain kisses on her. Chanelle is also an attention seeker! When nobody is attending to her, after being left alone for a while, she tries to get our attention by faking a cough, believe it or not. It’s really funny! And sometimes, she will raise both arms outstretched when misterchewy and I get home from work or when we say 抱抱.

Language: Chanelle responds to her name most of the time unless she’s too focused on something else. Currently, she’s exploring her vocals cords by doing this yelling and screaming thing. My bro reckons it sounds like the kind of noise cats make in the middle of the night but misterchewy and I think it’s really cute.

_MG_3774

Motor Skills: Apart from being able to roll and flip, Chanelle is able to sit upright for a short while although she’s not very stable and might topple over any moment. She has not begun crawling but is able to inch forward by lifting up her butt and moving like a caterpillar. Chanelle also loves grabbing and bringing her feet to her mouth and that’s when the licking of toes begins. As for her fine motorskills, Chanelle is able to pull out her pacifier from her mouth by using a pincer grip and then examine it by holding it up.

_MG_3771

We will be updating this space as we move on and attempt baby led weaning! Experienced mummies, do drop me a line and share some tips!

Park Hotel Clarke Quay Staycation Review

Sponsored Staycation

_MG_3891

It was more than half a year ago when misterchewy and I last went for a staycation in Singapore. Very long ago right! I still remember I popped 18 days later. Hehe. Our recent staycation at Park Hotel Clarke Quay was our very first one as a family of three. Really glad that we brought Little misschewy along because our wedding anniversary and misterchewy’s birthday was a few days later, so we wanted to celebrate the occasion together. I was thrilled about staying at Park Hotel Clarke Quay because I love its classic architecture which is inspired by Singapore’s colonial past. Besides that, I like that the hotel is strategically located in the heart of the city and the nightlife at Clarke Quay is very vibrant. Perfect for party goers and foreigners who want to experience the nightlife in Singapore.

_MG_3794

There are 336 well-appointed rooms and suites at Park Hotel Clarke Quay which all showcase modern baroque furnishings, elevated ceilings, as well as floor-to-ceiling windows that offer guests sweeping views of the Singapore River and the city skyline. Our Club room located on the 9th floor wasn’t too big but there was space for our small luggage, baby playpen and stroller, with room to walk around comfortably.

Baby Chanelle was just as excited as Papa! She was in a bright yellow summer dress, courtesy of Aunty Mag 😀

Do you know that children under 12 years old stay for FREE at all Park Hotel Group’s establishments? Kids meals are also complimentary!

In-room amenities tailored for little ones are also available at no additional charge. A bottle sterilizer in the room makes things much more convenient for us.

Very impressed with the wide selection of snacks!

_MG_3876

As a breastfeeding mother, the first thing I did when I opened the mini fridge was to check if it’s cold enough to store my expressed milk and not what’s inside the fridge. Felt that the fridge wasn’t cold enough and there wasn’t a freezer compartment to freeze the cooling panels of my cooler bag 🙁

_MG_3850

It was Chanelle’s nap time so we let her have the queen-sized bed.

_MG_3914

I really love the stunning pool that overlooks the panaromic city skyline. With state-of-the-art audio and visual equipment and superior standards in service, the hotel is an ideal venue to host wedding solemnizations, events and conferences. In fact, there was a wedding ceremony that took place that day!

_MG_4050

Thanks to Chanelle, we never really had to set our alarm on weekends because she would be the one waking us up by 9am. Lol. We were in time for breakfast at Brizo! It was Chanelle’s very first time on the high chair, which was too big for her. Anyway, we didn’t have much appetite so we only grabbed a few bites. The egg station is not to be missed!

Third Wedding Anniversary and Misterchewy’s Birthday!

Family Photo

Happy Chewsday! It’s misterchewy’s birthday today and we will also be celebrating our third year wedding anniversary! With a baby in our lives, priorities have changed. I admit that most of the time, I put Chanelle before my husband. I guess it’s a mothers’ thing? I also don’t approve of couples leaving their kids to their parents or in-laws while they enjoy their own couple time. I mean, once in a while it’s ok I suppose but I still want to do things together as a family. If not, what’s the point of setting up a family and having kids right? Haha. Perhaps it’s only the beginning for us, so it’s easy for me to say, but we shall see! For now, I’m just thankful that it is fate that brought the three of us together 🙂 Lastly, happy birthday hubby! :333

Okiedog Diaper Bag Review

Sponsored Review

_MG_3517

A few months ago, I was at a loss as to which diaper bag to get because there are so many of them out there in the market! Life is complicated enough, we don’t need diaper bags in all shapes and sizes to give us a headache. I want to tell new mothers that the thing that really matters the most at the end of the day is the WEIGHT of the diaper bag. As new mothers, we tend to be very kiasu and pack more than what is necessary. So, a lightweight diaper bag is really going to save you from a shoulder ache.

I swear by the diaper bags by Okiedog. They are stylish, roomy, affordable and lightweight! Every mummy’s dream (diaper) bag. I’m currently using this Sakawa Shuttle ($149.90) red bag which embodies the beauty of Asian culture with its intricate cherry blossom embroidery. Do you know that this bag weighs merely 750g? It is ultra light! Now that I’m into my fifth month of motherhood, I have learned to pack what is needed and here are some of the items that go into the bag!

There are plenty of compartments and I like to keep diapers and wet wipes within reach, by utilizing the outer compartments so that I don’t have a hard time digging for what I want in the midst of a sticky situation.

A Fridge To Go cooler bag, thermal flask, spare change of clothes, booties, more wet wipes. There are smaller pockets within the bag for you to keep stuff like toys, food, pacifier and teether. The bag also comes with an insulated bottle holder and antibacterial changing mat. This diaper bag is an absolute must-have for all mummies!
