ROM Parties at HomeTeamNS Pasir Ris Chalet (10th September 2011) & Symphony Heights (24th September 2011)

_MG_4647-horz

The day after our solemnization at Grand Copthorne Waterfront, misterchewy and I headed straight for HomeTeamNS Pasir Ris Chalet the instant we checked out of the hotel. Our guests for that evening were mostly misterchewy’s relatives. I shall let the photos do the talking!

My nails were done by Krist Goh! You can check out her website for more info. Yes I know that there are probably a thousand and one manicurists out there. Sweet Enchantment: We Experienced The Art of Candy Making!

Sweet Enchantment @ Vivo

Colorful rock candies are all the rage in Singapore! The fruity, sweet and sour titbit originated in Blackpool, England, but has caught on with those with a sweet tooth here. To date, Sweet Enchantment at VivoCity is the first and only rock candy shop that specializes in the technique of sugar moulding using all natural extracts. Beetroot is used to get red as seen in this bottle of candy! As for green and orange, spinach and carrots are used respectively. Currently, there are about 30 flavors which are categorized into 4 key themes: Fruity, Floral, Afternoon Tea and Happy Hour. Sweet Enchantment offers customization of candy for various events and occasions to suit individual preferences and needs! A draw of Sweet Enchantment is its open concept: At its outlet, passers-by are free to watch the pulling of candy three times on weekdays and fives times on weekends.

_MG_4993

Live Candy Making Session! We are making Lemon flavored rock candies! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

_MG_4996

Workers first boil a huge pot of sugar at 150 degrees celsius. The boiling pot of candy mix is then poured onto a metallic counter.

_MG_5007

I spot a air multiplier fan! I guess it is used to speed up the cooling process of the candy mix.

_MG_5021

The candy mix is then separated into the three different colors.

_MG_5027

Left to cool! We will come back to you later! πŸ˜›

_MG_5028

I was supposed to tie my hair up but didnt have any rubber bands with me so I tucked it in. Smart right! Had to don these gloves too! Gimme a hat and I’ll do a Michael Jackson for you.

_MG_5030

Maya helped me with the green rubber gloves. Don’t wanna burn my hands!

_MG_5041

Wheeeee! Excited! So many people watching! *shy* LOL!

_MG_5055com

Lolliologist Wen Yao is teaching me how to pull the dough. It looks easy but it’s not because it’s kinda heavy. Imagine having to do this repeatedly until the dough has a nice silky shine!

_MG_5058

The very eloquent Maya explaining the candy making process to the crowd!

_MG_5069

We are gonna make triangles, or triangular prisms, to be accurate!

_MG_5071

Cutting the yellow orange candy mix up into seven pieces to form seven triangular prisms!

_MG_5080

YEAH. I CAN HAZ SHORT HAIR. OMG.
They managed to find a rubber band for me! Guess nobody wants to eat hairy sweets.

_MG_5075

Wen Yao teaching me how to mould these into triangular shapes! “Press here.. Press there.. Everywhere press press.. Ta-dah!” Of course he didnt say that.

_MG_5102

We passed our triangles to the other lolliologist (oops I don’t know his name) for him to refine them further.

_MG_5105

YO! I’m working it like one of them! LOLOL.

_MG_5108com

Phew! It’s seriously not as easy as it looks! If only we had macro lens, confirm can see beads of perspiration on my forehead!

_MG_5143com

And now we need to mould the white candy such that each piece is roughly of the same length and width as the triangles!

_MG_5153com

Kneading and moulding is fun fun fun! πŸ˜›

_MG_5180com

All of the seven pieces have to be of the same size for the entire thing to fit nicely!

_MG_5188com

Nice right! The orange color looks so enticing!

_MG_5196com

I invited readers who are on my facebook page to join me in this candy making session. Due to space constraints, I had to randomly select just one reader and here’s a very happy XY! πŸ˜€

_MG_5201com

Wen Yao took over for a while in order to wrap the outer layer.

_MG_5218

XY couldn’t stop smiling to herself when the two cute lolliologists taught her how to roll the candy. Hehe πŸ˜›

_MG_5226

Wrapping the final layer! It is red right? The final product is actually yellow! Cool beans!

_MG_5235

I bet this thing weighs a tonne! Throw at people confirm die one.

_MG_5259

Ok watch this closely! Wen Yao is squeezing out one end which will be discarded later. WHAT?! Yes. Throw away.

_MG_5275

Notice that it’s orange at the bottom and yellow on top as its being pulled?

_MG_5286

Pull and pull and pull! Looks easy right? It’s not! A lot of strength is required here!

_MG_5291

            And.. The pulling continues..

_MG_5293

XY giving eye power and hand power. Ok just kidding! Somebody needs to hold onto the candy roll while our lolliologist does the pulling.

_MG_5363

Finally! Cylindrical tubes of lemon candy! Can you see me standing beside XY with my mouth wide open?! LOLOL. XY rolls the tubes so that they don’t become flat on one side while they harden on the metallic counter.

_MG_5372

As soon as the candy hardens, the tubes are ready to be sliced into many tiny pieces!

_MG_5377

XY and I having lotsa fun slicing the candy! If you do it correctly (and expertly), you should hear a “dongdongdongdongdongdong” sound. That’s the sound of sliced candy pieces flying onto the metallic counter lah.

_MG_5386

Ahlamak. Chop candy also want to pose and take photo. Maya must be wondering if we can do a good job! πŸ˜›

_MG_5392

I really got carried away by the “dongdongdongdongdongdong” sound that I forgot that the pieces are supposed to be kept small! How can let people eat so big sweets? Tak unglam!

_MG_5400

Here comes a new challenger! Hubbie Chew believes he can do a much better job than me!

_MG_5401

Ehhhh also very big piece lor!

_MG_5407

Candy Bandit Maya shows us how it should be done! Compare the left pile and right pile of sweets.

_MG_5411

More experts on the job! Their “dongdongdongdongdongdong” sound is soooo fast that I only hear one long “dooooooooonnnnnnnnnnng”.

_MG_5414

Just look at that! They took only a few seconds to get so many pieces of candies!

Cross section of our Lemon candy!

Cross section of our Lemon candy!

Hey it doesn’t look that bad right? Anyway the perfectly triangular shaped ones couldn’t have been moulded by me. Hehehe I spot a peculiar looking triangle.. *sheepish smile*

Bergamot Lime Rock Candy

              Bergamot Lime Rock Candy

The Bergamot Lime rock candy also looks like a cross section of the citrus fruit itself. Notice that the triangles are perfectly shaped and of the same size? πŸ˜›

Yuzu Rock Candy

              Yuzu Rock Candy

Other fruit flavors include the Yuzu which is a Japanese citrus. It’s less sweet and very aromatic. You definitely can’t miss this amongst shelves and shelves of candies. Just look out for the “柚”!

White Grape Rock Candy

            Muscat (White Grape) Rock Candy

Surely you have seen and eaten purple and green grapes! What about white grapes? Muscat grapes are used to make a variety of sweet dessert wines in various parts of the world. This is one of the popular choices among many. I like it too!

Raspberry Rock Candy

        Raspberry Rock Candy

I nearly laughed out loud when I caught sight of these raspberry candies. The pig face staring back at you is simply too funny! These are guaranteed to chase those monday blues away!

Haunted Strawberry Rock Candy

      Haunted Strawberry Rock Candy

I swear my heart skipped a beat when I saw these Haunted Strawberry candies. Too cute! Halloween is coming! Perfect for trick-or-treat!

Lavender Rock Candy

              Lavender Rock Candy

Sweet Enchantment has a range of floral rock candies too. Nice and sweet-smelling! Lavender is one of them πŸ˜‰

Lemongrass Rock Candy

        Lemongrass Rock Candy

I don’t know why but I seem to like everything. The lemongrass tastes so awesome! The candy people at Sweet Enchantment are so cute. Lemon on grass gives you lemongrass! πŸ˜€

English Breakfast Tea

      English Breakfast Tea Rock Candy

The range of afternoon tea candy flavors are equally interesting! I particularly like the English Breakfast Tea. Keep your eyes peeled for the Latte Macchiato, Milk Jam and Caramel candies! πŸ˜‰

Champagne Rock Candy

        Champagne Rock Candy

Happy Hour candies! How cool is that! Alcohol content is less than 5% and probably wouldn’t be able to satisfy the alcoholic in you πŸ˜› But hey, look on the bright side! You can’t drink while at work, but you can indulge in these champagne candies while typing away at your computer! πŸ˜›

Rum Rock Candy

          Rum Rock Candy

I personally prefer the Rum flavored candy. Besides the above four key themes, Sweet Enchantment can help you convey your personalized messages by engraving them into candy! Do look out for new exciting flavors brought together by the team once every one and a half months! πŸ™‚

Grand Copthorne Waterfront: Spending Our First Night Together As Mr & Mrs Chew :)

_MG_4550

The weekend passed by in a flash, with the actual solemnization at Grand Copthorne Waterfront and solemnization party for another group of relatives at Home TeamNS Pasir Ris chalet occurring over two successive nights. I will be posting the photos taken on 9 Sept here as soon as our photographer is done!
9 September is also misterchewy’s birthday, which makes our wedding extra special πŸ™‚

_MG_4577ed

We rolled into bed way past midnight and were feeling lazy to get dressed for the buffet breakfast the next morning πŸ˜› Tried our luck by calling room service and they agreed to take our orders for breakfast even though we should have done so before 6am I think. I’m not sure if we had this special privilege because we were “The Wedding Couple” but we were appreciative of all nice gestures.

_MG_4583

Our American Breakfast spread! Not forgetting our beloved Tofu Oyako toys which accompanied us throughout our pre-marital journey πŸ˜€

_MG_4590

Mr Chew and I chose poached eggs with chicken sausages, bacon and hash brown. While eating, the both of us realized that there wasn’t any hollandaise sauce! Hahaha πŸ˜›

_MG_4599

Our bread basket which consisted of muffins, croissant, and danish pastries. It was a pity that it was largely untouched because we were feeling rather full from our half eaten bowl of cereal and hot chocolate.

_MG_4622

Here’s a sneak peak for the celebration that took place the next day at the chalet! This is the only photo that turned out grainy after some adjustments but the rest were ok πŸ˜› Thanks for dropping by and stay tuned! Lovely Monday, everyone! πŸ™‚

Mid Autumn Festival 2011: A Gathering Over Mooncakes & Tea

Ritual

Last year’s Mooncake Party at Daniel’s place was a very successful and memorable one. We clearly had a severe overdose on mooncakes, mooncakes and more mooncakes as each of us brought along a box, which resulted in 10 boxes of mooncakes! So this year, we agreed on one box per pair which is much more manageable. Fen and Yuan were kind enough to invite us over to their new home and while we were given a tour around the place, BB Chew told me that he couldn’t wait for our BTO to be ready so that we can have a cosy little space all to ourselves! πŸ˜€

_MG_4097
Regent Hotel’s White Lotus Paste with Double Yolk and Melon Seeds

Phoebe and Chloe brought these traditional baked mooncakes from Regent Hotel which were packaged in a nice box with a detachable bird cage. The egg yolks were really huge and I reckon that this will make a great gift if you want to please your folks or in-laws! πŸ˜‰

_MG_4105
Mandarin Orchard’s Baked Mooncake with Macadamia Nuts and Low Sugar White Lotus Paste

This year, Fen and Yuan had sampled a great variety of mooncakes from different places and introduced to us two mooncakes from Mandarin Orchard. I’m a fan of macadamia nuts for its delicious flavor and smooth crunchy texture. A plus point is that the white lotus paste is low in sugar. It’s a winner!

_MG_4117
Mandarin Orchard’s Baked Mooncake with Mixed Nuts and JamΓ³n ibΓ©rico

The baked mooncake with mixed nuts and JamΓ³n ibΓ©rico is Fen’s and Yuan’s favorite of all the mooncakes that they have reviewed this year. It was my first experience eating mooncakes with (Iberian) ham! Nice mix of savoury and sweet. Taste aside, the texture of the filling was akin to that of a muesli bar I suppose. If you would like to try something different, this is highly recommended.

_MG_4124
Eater Palace (食珍)’s Teochew mooncake (Yam with Salted Egg Yolk and Yam with Pumpkin)

I think Daniel and Lay Sian are obsessed with yam mooncakes! Actually I also like πŸ˜› This time, the mooncakes are from Eater Palace. I like the unique contrasting combination of flaky crust and smooth yam paste!

_MG_4142
Jewels Artisan Chocolate’s Mini Assorted Snowskin Mooncakes

Chewy Charles and I settled for mini assorted snowskin mooncakes from Jewels Artisan Chocolates as he simply could not forget his beloved mooncake with salted caramel truffle πŸ˜› My other personal favorites include the champagne ganache truffle and espresso truffle. The adventurous might want to try Jewels’ mini snowskin mooncake with korean black garlic which is rich in antioxidants!

Terracotta Warriors (兡马俑) @ Asian Civilisation Museum!

Terracotta Warriors Cover

BB Chew and I finally checked out the Terracotta Warriors exhibit at Asian Civilisation Museum! A couple of weeks back, the boy suggested paktor-ing there.. Frankly speaking, I wasn’t the least bit excited but his enthusiasm kinda rubbed off on me. I have never ever liked or knew how to appreciate history. I hated all that memorizing work and barely passed this pain-in-the-ass subject in lower secondary.

_MG_3846

So why are we here? Thanks to LOVE LOVE LOVE. The power of love. I can’t believe I looked so happy in this photo. We had a quick lunch at McD which was nearby and while making our way to ACM, I told BB Chew that surely, the surname ε…΅ (bing) is such a unique one. Still got what other names? “ε…΅”ζ·‡ζ·‹ (ice cream) ah? I thought it was a pretty lame joke but he had this weird look on his face. (Read on to find out later!) πŸ˜›

_MG_3934

A testing shot but I thought his facial expression was pretty funny. Hahaha XD

_MG_3835-1

Couldn’t make out what this was. I thought it resembled something I saw at Haw Par Villa when I was a little girl. Then BB Chew explained that this showed the process of constructing the 兡马俑 (terracotta warriors). Ahhhh.. At this point, I was a little puzzled but was not interested enough to query further.

_MG_3838-1

Cute miniatures of…. well, I don’t know.

_MG_3849-1

Hi there horsies! I wish you could gimme a ride. Mehhhhhhh..

_MG_3850-1

Warrior outfit? I dare Lady Gaga to wear this!!

_MG_3871-1

Finally, BB Chew exclaimed.. “There! That’s the 兡马俑!”
I was like “HUH? Which one?! Who?!”
“What who? This whole thing la!”
“HUH?! OMG I thought 兡马俑 is a person leh!”
-faints-

_MG_3873-1

Turns out that this is the ε…΅! (unless I’m wrong again!)

_MG_3911-1

..and this is the 马! (I’m 100% sure, guarantee plus chop stamp)

_MG_3867

Ummm what about the δΏ‘? BB Chew did explain to me but I can’t remember.. See what I told you about failing history? πŸ™

_MG_3880-1

Haha cute little girl and her equally cute pose.

_MG_3881-1

_MG_3917-1

At least I made an effort to do some homework after this trip! Apart from life-sized terracotta figures, later diggings revealed musicians, servants, acrobats and even animals! So cool right!

_MG_3941-1

But this is even cooler! I’m pretty sure she wasn’t buried together with Emperor Qin Shi Huang. Haha!

_MG_3942-1

The red laptop so boomz. Ok this word is pretty outdated already. Anyway the first laptop that I thought of was Sony Vaio!

_MG_3938

Yup our little mystery was solved! BB Chew finally got my lame joke about the “ε…΅”ζ·‡ζ·‹ and I also knew why he initially had a straight face. We both had a good laugh after that! πŸ˜€ To think that I have actually been to so many parts of China -.- Anyway, this exhibition is a temporary one and will be here till 16 October 2011. Standard admission charges apply. Make a date with your loved ones and have fun! πŸ™‚

Antoinette: By Singapore’s Award-winning Pastry Chef

Antoinette Cover

When the much talked about Antoinette opened sometime around late May this year, I’m pretty sure it got some of us excited. Well-known former executive pastry chef of Les Amis Group’s CanelΓ©, Pang Kok Keong is the man behind Antoinette which is situated near Lavender mrt station. This post is long overdue actually. Heh heh πŸ˜› The food bloggers planned a meetup since Elaine and Glenn were back, separately (lol), from New York and Perth, for a short stay! πŸ™‚ I will let the photos do the talking ok? The mains were taken by me while misterchewy shot the desserts! I liked my eggs florentine and the desserts were generally nice πŸ˜€

shooting ritual

I once stumbled upon an interesting question on Twitter: “What do you think of people who take photos of their food?” So what does the above photo tell you? πŸ™‚

chewy <3

Heh heh. It just so happened that the both of us were craving breakfast food for dinner πŸ˜›

Classic Eggs Florentine
Classic Eggs Florentine ($14)

My classic eggs florentine was served with poached eggs on toasted brioche which seemed like a nice alternative to the usual english muffins. It kinda felt as if I was eating eggs with toasted bread though. So.. On second thought, I think I’d still prefer my eggs wth muffins πŸ˜› I particularly liked the creamy hollandaise sauce which had a very mild sweet sourish lemony taste.

Antoinette's Breakfast
Antoinette’s Breakfast ($20)

Egg with grilled bacon, sausage, pain de mie toast, basket of viennoiseries and orange juice. Definitely something to fill you up!

Nordic
Nordic ($16.50)

For the health freak in you, (oops Elaine, I’m not implying that you are one) there’s always smoked salmon with lots of green.

Gnocchi Carbonara
Gnocchi Carbonara ($16.50)

It has been a long time since I last had gnocchi and I liked it for its doughy chewy texture! Can’t remember who ordered this but it sure looks good!

Wild Mushroom Risotto
Wild Mushroom Risotto ($20)

This is another dish which I would very much love to try if I ever pop by Antoinette again.

Mont Blanc
Mont Blanc ($8.50)

And now we have the desserts! Whoohoo! If you love chestnuts, you will love this. The strands of sweet nutty chestnut puree were simply irresistable!

Saint Honourl' Amour
Saint Honourl’ Amour ($8.50)

This is really pretty! Something for you to hold and admire for a long time before you finally decide to devour it πŸ˜› A very sweet-smelling/tasting, girly dessert which I did enjoy.

Chocolicieux
Chocolicieux ($9.50)

When we were eyeing the desserts at the counter, I was like.. OMG! Magnum ice cream! (Except that it was a little more bling bling with that layer of shimmery gold) We just had to try this! Hahaha! It’s chocolate. Eh what did you expect?

Brittany
Brittany ($8)

A dainty piece of cake. Nice to look at but it was kinda dry and just average, really.

Le Royale
Le Royale ($8)

Misterchewy and I liked this! Smooth, moist layers and a crunchy praline base. Might be a little too sweet for some people.

Macarons 1.1
Assortment of macarons

Sesame, Pitaschio, Brittany , $5 for 3
Chloe, Charlotte $5.60 for 2

Macarons2.1

I tried half of a sesame macaron and another half.. Oh shucks I cant remember which.. Nevermind. All the other macarons didn’t interest me much except for the sesame one. Haha I think macarons are perfect only during tea time (or high tea if you insist). It’s too sweet to eat more than two macarons in one sitting without pairing them with tea.

Desserts

These were all the desserts we conquered that night! Not sure about the rest but I almost went crazy. Sugar high perhaps!

girls attempting funny faces

This was taken BEFORE desserts. Not high on sugar yet. LOL.

Flying Our Kites & Blowing Our Bubbles at Marina Barrage! :D

_MG_3773com

Our kite-flying and bubbles-blowing date was supposed to be part of our anniversary celebration but we had to postpone it as BB Chew fell sick. As the weekend drew nearer, we got serious and agreed to wake up really early, like at 630am. The day finally arrived and the boy tried to wake me up but gave up after 30 minutes because I slept like a pig and refused to budge! He was wide awake and played computer games before trying again one hour later. LOL! Embarrassing much. We cabbed down and thank goodness, there weren’t many people. We found a nice spot to put down our barang barang. More importantly, to take photos without those extra people behind πŸ˜›

I love our couple shirts! Blue and hot pink – my favorite colors! It’s a Taiwanese clothing brand called Outer Space. Heard that it’s slightly more expensive in Singapore but I haven’t seen it around here.

Yay! That’s me and my Tiger kite! πŸ˜€

Haha BB Chew grew wings on his back and became Super Chewy thanks to his Eagle kite!

Attempting a ROAR!

Super Chewy takes off! Whoohoo!

Perfect excuse to whip out my hot pink shades because the sun was shining directly into our eyes! πŸ˜›

This battery operated Canon lens fan that the boy got me made its debut! It really came in handy that day and I’m carrying it around in my bag everywhere I go now πŸ™‚

Totally love this photo! πŸ™‚

My kite is up in the air! Yipee!

_MG_3498com

These cute little boys were in the middle of a family photoshoot and I kinda felt awkward because they were obviously more interested in my kite!

_MG_3510com

The younger of the two brothers continued to ‘chase’ our kites.. Simply adorable πŸ™‚

_MG_3461com

Haha we only used the tiger kite for phototaking because it’s much easier to pass each other the kite like that.

_MG_3445com

Jump shot fail. Hahaha.

After a few tries.. Hurray! πŸ˜€

OChre Italian Restaurant: Saturday Eat-All-You-Can Pizza & Pasta

_MG_3206

Ahem.. Have I ever mentioned that July is my favorite month? πŸ˜› My birthday! And this year, we had other awesome events like our One Year Anniversary & BB Chew’s Convocation which also took place in July! Anyway, I left Mr Chew to plan the itinerary! So lunch it was at OChre Italian Restaurant which is located on the 11th level of Orchard Central. Look at this cute little reservation card! It made us smile πŸ™‚ Shucks, we forgot to bring it back as a form of keepsake. Oh well! πŸ™‚

OChre Italian Restaurant has a very lovely and intimate ambience that makes you feel at ease with its open kitchen concept where you can watch the chefs if you’re seated indoors. We passed by the place a couple of times earlier this year but we never went in. We prefer simplicity on usual days. Hehe. Ochre was kinda empty on a Saturday afternoon. Less than half the place was filled.

How many of you out there are currently dating a food blogger? Haha is it really stressful when it comes to special occasions when you’re the one who’s doing the planning? The boy confessed that he spent an entire day doing his research at home and had a few back up plans before finally settling on OChre! We were both in for a pleasant surprise upon finding out that there’s this Eat-All-You-Can Pizza & Pasta (selected items only) at just $22+ (yup only one + because there’s no service charge!) per person on Saturdays during lunch from 11.30am to 3pm ! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ Now you know where to go this Saturday, don’t you? πŸ˜‰

Thanks BB Chew for my very first birthday present of the day! A plate of pasta! Hahaha! XD

Seafood Linguine
Seafood Linguine, White Wine Sauce

Nicely infused with flavors from the sea, the seafood linguine in white wine sauce had a nice, firm bite to it and was well executed. If my memory doesn’t fail me, I think it was my first time eating pasta with red chilli slices? Yup but it doesn’t matter. I licked my plate clean. The portion is just right to make one feel satiated.

Now, THIS is my biggest birthday present! Haha kidding! No wait, I’m darn serious. And that’s the cute and handsome Executive Chef Kentaro standing in the background. Haha Mr Chew is going to kill me!

Tagliatelle
Tagliatelle with Mussel & Zucchini, Tomato Cream Sauce

I say, tagliatelle is like the equivalent of our chinese meepok ta and I’m always very amused when I see one. Tomato cream sauce is perfect for people who simply cannot decide between a tomato based and cream based pasta. It’s actually quite nice because the tomato flavor wasn’t that intense. Mussels were fresh and bouncy! Boing boing! πŸ˜›

What did I say about eat-all-you-can? Ok la we weren’t that hungry so we had just one more pizza to share! πŸ™‚

Pizza
Funghi Mushrooms & Mozzarella Pizza

Enough of seafood! Besides, we have this tendency to pick seafood pizzas over everything else. We wanted change! Chewy Charles suggested having the mushrooms pizza and I didn’t have any objections. The pizza definitely did not come out of the wood fire oven but it was decent nonetheless. Biscuity thin crust and the mozzarella cheese were heavenly! Can’t say much about the mushrooms though.

Thanks for the birthday lunch treat BB Chew! Now I must think of how to celebrate your birthday. After our solemnization of course! πŸ˜€

We took the stairs and went up to the rooftop! Nice place to take pictures πŸ™‚

My very awesome Mummy got me this LV Damier Azur Canvas in cream color! She bought this about a month back and it’s my first time carrying it πŸ˜€

The boy is still crazy about doing levitation shots! -___-
