Darren’s & Sophia’s Purple Wedding at Shangri La Ballroom

Darren & Sophie Wedding 067-001

You know, I have been skipping tennis for three weeks in a row now! Too many happy occasions which I’m actually very glad to be part of. First was my secondary school friend’s wedding, followed by my colleague’s newborn’s full month celebration. This time, I attended my cousin’s customary wedding. We were at Darren’s place early in the morning to witness the tea ceremony.

A group photo with the cousins, nieces and nephew. Not all of them were present in the day, but you will get to see some of the rest in the photos later! Haha it’s also fun to compare the day shots with the night ones. Transformation siol! Lol.

Darren & Sophie Wedding 051

9 brothers and 6 sisters. I think the other 3 sisters went missing!

One of my cousins joked that by the time it reaches her turn, at least 40 people would have drank from the same cup. Haha kinda grossed out to hear that!

Darren & Sophie Wedding 060

After the tea ceremony, we went home and took a short nap!

_MG_1969

On the way to Shangri La Hotel! OOTD: The same short gown which I wore for our ROM party and Kate Spade inspired clutch. Decided to rewear the gown because I’m a huge procrastinator and went to search for something suitable only one week before the wedding. In the end, nothing caught my fancy! I kept my fingernails long but I’m also lazy to go for a manicure. Hehehe πŸ˜› Helena Rubinstein once remarked, “There are no ugly women, only lazy ones”. I beg to differ. I’m simply low maintenance YO! πŸ˜€

_MG_1983

Decided to match match our color. Different shades of blue though!

Spotted the bridal car parked outside!

_MG_2037

Maeda Uncle is my parents’ colleagues (ex for my dad) for the longest time! We even went out with his wife and three kids when they came over to Singapore many years ago. His eldest daughter is of my age and we used to be penpals. Ahhh memories..

_MG_2033

My mum and Aunt Lucy. I like her nyonya kebaya!

Spending Our First Valentine’s Day as Mr & Mrs Chew!

_MG_1123

And so, the sweet boy and I spent our second Valentine’s Day together. Last year as boyfriend and girlfriend, and this is our first year spending Valentine’s Day together as hubby and wifey. He gave me a nice surprise on the day before Valentine’s Day too! Don’t we girls love surprises, especially during special occasions like this! πŸ˜€ Hubby Chewy picked me up from work and I made use of the opportunity to get him carry home the remaining two bottles of wine (I lugged one back last week) from the hamper prize that I won. He pointed at my heels, “Do you wanna go home first to change into something more comfortable then we head out for dinner?” I was like, “Ok! These things are too heavy anyway.” When we got out of the lift, I made a casual remark that I wanna wash my feet before we head out. Ok this might sound pointless to some but it’s a habit of mine that I have to wash my feet when I return home. Hubby said, “Ok then I wait for you outside.” I proceeded to unlock the door and that was when I saw the bouquet of bears, card and chocolates on the table. At first, I thought my dad wanted to play the old romantic and surprise my mum. My second thought was that my mum wanted to play a prank on me! I inched forward and squinted at the card.

_MG_1131

The card was addressed to me and signed off by Hubby Chewy. Yours truly screamed, “OH MY GAWD!” upon realizing that the boy was sneaky enough to plan and execute this surprise while I was at work. Hurhur. I bet Hubby Chewy was grinning and thinking, “Gotcha!” Anyway I think my response was really epic. What kinda response was that?! >_<

_MG_1129

I think the chocolates impressed me the most! I mean if it was just the bouquet and the card, it would have looked less remarkable. Seriously! πŸ˜›

Vday 004

Wanted to display this (read: NOT show off) in office but it’s really too huge and will probably take up an entire shelf space! D:

_MG_1145

I’m very touched by Hubby Chewy’s effort. Chanel 2.55 next year okay, hubby? πŸ˜€

_MG_1178

Call me kiasu but I was the one who made reservations at Da Paolo Ristorane about a month ago. I decided to be initiative about it since misterchewy has been pretty bogged down by work. And I really didn’t want to put things till the very last minute. All the Da Paolo restaurants offer different set menus and we decided to go ahead with the one at Chip Bee Gardens. Checked with misterchewy and he was alright with settling for Da Paolo’s Valentine’s Day Set Menu at $128 per person, which includes a glass of Prosecco.

_MG_1181

Yours truly went the extra mile by applying red hot lipstick and wearing falsies just for the special date. Hehe! πŸ˜›

_MG_1159-tile

_MG_1179

_MG_1164

_MG_1167

Our starter of Atlantic Scallops, Carrot and Tangerine Sauce, Passion Fruit, Celery turned out to be a true delight. The thick, creamy sauce was really brilliant!

_MG_1175

_MG_1170

We had a middle course of Spinach Carnaroli Risotto with King Prawns in Brandy Sauce. I loveeeee risotto and it had been ages since I last ate it. Hubby Chewy and I both agreed that the risotto was firm to the bite but the creaminess was kind of overwhelming towards the end.

_MG_1191

I chose the Grouper Fillet with Asparagus & Herbed Potatoes in Hollandaise sauce as my main course. Felt that the fish was a tad dry.

_MG_1193

The husband was quite satisfied with his Braised Lamb Shoulder, which he marvelled to be very tender.

_MG_1201

_MG_1204

_MG_1205

Strawberry Tiramisu with White Chocolate! This was the best out of all the courses, no kidding! πŸ˜› Light, creamy, luscious and heavenly.

_MG_1196

_MG_1198

_MG_1209

“What?! You want me to finish this piece of strawberry?!”

_MG_1215

“I don’t like strawberry.. Can I not eat it pleeeeease?”

_MG_1212

“Boohoohoo.. I really don’t wanna eat it.. I don’t like..”

_MG_1216

Ok I forced misterchewy to finish up the strawberry that was lying on his plate! *evil laughter*

_MG_1217

_MG_1218

_MG_1223

Thank you for the nice dinner treat, Hubby Chewy! πŸ˜€ If you ask me, I think it’s ok to be a little more extravagant on special occasions. Yes I agree that Valentine’s Day is very commercialized but I’m not bothered by this fact πŸ˜›

_MG_1253

_MG_1229

_MG_1230

_MG_1232

_MG_1234

The boy left a message on my Facebook wall:
“In your eyes, I found love. On your lips, I found warmth. In your hug, I found comfort. There is no way I can ever live without you. I love you and happy Valentines day to you everyday! β™₯ “

Romance Your Valentine at KU DÉ TA

Ku De Ta Valentine's Day Tasting

Want to impress that special date on Valentine’s Day? Make the lady feel on top of the world by taking her 57 storeys high up Marina Bay Sands. Dining in KU DΓ‰ TA Restaurant is an upbeat affair where the view, food, wine and music are best enjoyed with good company. There is nothing more romantic than dining under the stars as you clink your wine glasses and whisper sweet nothings into each other’s ears while enjoying the panoramic view of the city’s skyline..

misterchewy & missuschewy

Hubby Chewy and I had the honour of sampling KU DΓ‰ TA’s Valentine’s Set Menu ($148++ per person, minimum 2 to dine). This menu is available from 10 – 19 February 2012 during lunch and dinner and during dinner time on 14th February, all ladies will receive a stalk of rose. We were seated at the alfresco dining area, which was regrettably cold but the wait staff promptly offered me a black shawl to wrap myself with. The shawl is now sitting in my office πŸ™‚

Ku De Ta Valentine's Day Tasting 016

Our dinner started off with a soup and this is by no means an ordinary hot soup. The Momotaro & Shinremei Gazpacho was served cold, in a shot glass, which I mistook for a sweet drink. Give it a good stir, and you will agree that this tomato-based soup with avocado and rice vinegar is actually quite rejuvenating!

Ku De Ta Valentine's Day Tasting 018_

Without a doubt, the Mizuna & Kurobuta Pork Warm Salad is our favorite starter. We were impressed by how the kurobuta pork was so perfectly done! Tender and juicy on the inside, crusty on the outside.

Ku De Ta Valentine's Day Tasting 022

You need not be worried about being put off by the raw taste of oysters as the Tempura Style Sydney Rock Oysters have been lightly battered and goes well with the wasabi aioli, which thankfully was not very potent.

Ku De Ta Valentine's Day Tasting 024

Next came the Langoustine & Jackfruit Tartar with Marinated Ikura & Curried Bread which I must say, was quite unusual in terms of its presentation . In terms of taste, it’s like lobster or prawn with mango salad with a twist. I enjoyed every bit of this dish.

Ku De Ta Valentine's Day Tasting 026

I believe that the Amberjack Ceviche had been marinated in lemon or lime before being topped with roasted garlic, capsicum and red onion. I liked the citrusy marination and firm texture of the fish.

Ku De Ta Valentine's Day Tasting 027

The Grilled Asparagus Spears probably looks ordinary but with the egg yolk, cured salmon, limon cress this dish was savoury and creamy, which was absolutely heavenly!

Ku De Ta Valentine's Day Tasting 036

Although the Seared Hokkaido Scallops were drizzled in chorizo oil and mint, it tasted pretty unexceptional. At least the scallops were firm and succulent.

Ku De Ta Valentine's Day Tasting 039_

Hubby Chewy and I relished every bite of the Roast Black Cod Loin which had been marinated with thai basil, lemongrass and turmeric. Something light, yet substantial.

Ku De Ta Valentine's Day Tasting 030

I’m quite sure that the Slow Cooked Duck Leg is misterchewy’s favorite for the night. Prior to our visit, the chef had received feedback about the duck being dry and tough. All I can say is that the duck was flavorful and fork tender. Don’t forget to pair it with a glass of red wine!

Ku De Ta Valentine's Day Tasting 044_

It is a pity that the Braised Puy Lentils is our least favorite dish. Not sure if it’s an acquired taste but we liked neither the taste nor the texture of this one.

Ku De Ta Valentine's Day Tasting 049

As usual, I’m always looking forward to desserts and was thrilled to see this plate of Sesame and Basil Benova with Sub Zero Raspberry & Sauvignon Jello, but I can’t say the same for misterchewy as he doesn’t like raspberries. I urged him to give it a try and he gamely finished everything. There is a good mix of tart, sweet and savoury in this exquisite dessert and my favorite was the sauvignon jello!

Bastien Charles 2

The man behind the desserts is KU DΓ‰ TA’s pastry chef, Jerry Bastien Charles, who has worked in several esteemed establishments all over the world. Bastien chose to become a pastry chef because he feels that, “Women prefer men who smell of sugar than men who smell of fish.” I cannot agree more!

Ku De Ta Valentine's Day Tasting 057

I honestly feel that KU DΓ‰ TA is offering an extremely good deal here after having compared the Valentine’s Day set menu prices of various restaurants. The perfect scenery of the city at night is definitely another plus factor which will wow your date and you can always proceed to the bar for a couple of drinks after dinner! πŸ™‚

The Chewys at ku de ta

Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone! πŸ˜€

Lo Hei, Bang! & Monopoly Deal with the Barang Barang Gang!

_MG_0788

Heyhey everybardy! As promised, here’s the post on meeting up with the Barang Barang Gang (my secondary school friends) during CNY. As we were unable to come to a conclusion on dinner plans, all of us decided to settle dinner on our own before reaching SS’ house at around 7.30pm. I wasn’t feeling very hungry so I picked a bit from misterchewy’s economical beehoon πŸ˜› Haha I’m only making him skinnier right?!

_MG_0791

SS stays just across the street! The closer you stay, the later you end up at the doorstep. Happens all the time yo! We reached 30 minutes late πŸ˜› But we weren’t too bad. Jeffrey stays opposite my block but both he and Karen arrived much later. Shame shame. LOL! The latest was Bee because she went home for dinner after her church service ended in the evening but at least she had a valid reason!

_MG_0795

MJ was the one who introduced this Bang! card game to us previously during our group chalet stay and naturally, he was the one who taught us how to play the game. Now, he’s teaching misterchewy!

_MG_0800

We played one round of Bang! while waiting for the rest to arrive. I was the Sheriff! πŸ˜€

_MG_0802

JH and SS trying to guess who’s the baddie in this game.

_MG_0809

Everybody soon arrived and Chee helped to add the remaining ingredients for the yusheng!

_MG_0813

The original Barang Barang Gang of 8 members plus our ‘new’ members misterchewy and Karen! πŸ™‚

_MG_0816

_MG_0834

Hahaha everyone looked very solemn here! Why so serious?!

As each game has a certain maximum number of players, we had to split up. I chose Monopoly Deal!

The guys are laughing about something! Guess what’s up their sleeves?

Hahaha ok that’s all folks! Our CNY celebration doesn’t stop here! There will be one more post coming up next week. Huat ah! In the meantime, keep your eyes peeled if you wanna win yourself a bottle of wine and some catering vouchers. Ciao! πŸ™‚

Ringing in the Year of the Dragon with Hubby & Family!

_MG_0580ed

Hihi everyone! Greetings from misterchewy and missuschewy! πŸ˜€ How were the first few days of your CNY celebration? Hope you guys didn’t stuff yourselves with too many pieces of pineapple tarts and bak kwa YO! I’m proud to say that I only had a nibble here and there because I was too busy playing cards (read: gambling)! Haha πŸ˜› This year’s CNY break is too short! Boohoo!

_MG_0573ed

On CNY Eve, I wore a bright orange minimalist dress. Ok it looks kinda red in this photo. I love how flattering the cut is! Anyway, misterchewy proposed the idea of getting both our families to have reunion dinner together. I must say that it was a fantastic idea! So so so happy that our families can get along really well πŸ˜€ My mum recommended Hwa Seafood Restaurant at Novena because most restaurants were already fully booked.

_MG_0553-1

Yay! Lo Hei always makes me happy! After plenty of auspicious wishes, the FIL cued and we all shouted “HUAT AH” together!

_MG_0555ed

Every CNY, we would go over to bai nian at my gugu’s (dad’s younger sister) house in the morning before going over to my maternal grandma’s. My grandpa has been staying together with my gugu’s family ever since grandma passed away a few years ago. We played one round of Monopoly Deal with my cousins, followed by blackjack, before going to my maternal grandma’s house in the evening.

_MG_0622

A couple of weeks before CNY, I went shopping with misterchewy and this is one of the shirts that I chose and bought for him. I think he looks good in checked shirts! πŸ˜› Bought the jeans for him too! Love the reflective material!

_MG_0624

I was actually deciding if I should wear this pink dress on Valentine’s Day instead but I like it so much that I had considered re-wearing it. Haha! πŸ˜›

_MG_0645

This is little Lavelle! Realized that she was wearing a baby version of the purple toga dress that her mum wore on that day!

Hubby Chewy and I spent the entire CNY Day 2 at the in-laws’ place! They invited my MIL’s siblings over and everyone gathered in the living room and bedrooms to play card games and mahjong! I think I won quite a bit in blackjack! πŸ˜€ Hehe misterchewy was teaching me how to play mahjong and he won some money in the process. This is the only photo I’ve got. Haha misterchewy’s nephew is really cute!

_MG_0663

Glad that I didn’t have to work on the third day of CNY! Parents arranged for us to Lo Hei with grandpa. We picked him up from my gugu’s house and went to Tung Lok at Orchard Parade Hotel. I bought the red checked shirt for my bro!

Goodbye 2011! Hello 2012! :D

_MG_9803-1

Now that it’s the second day of 2012, I hope 1st Jan had been a good start for all of you! 2011 has been a very good and exciting year for misterchewy and myself. These were the most memorable happenings from the beginning of the year all the way till the end. I suppose the second half of the year was more interesting! πŸ˜›

Valentine's Day 2011

14 February 2011 – We celebrated Valentine’s Day with each other for the very first time! Had dinner at Orchard Central’s Sarang, which is a Korean restaurant. The then-boyfriend got me a bouquet of bears! <3

DSC00403com

20 to 22 May 2011 – Hit the sand and the sea at Redang with misterchewy and his NTU friends! The sun seemed to be on shift, so we didnt get much of a tan. Haha! Really fun because it was our first time snorkelling together! πŸ˜€

IMG_0001

28 May 2011 – I thought we should engage in other activities other than just eating so we signed up for the Sundown Half-Marathon! Heh.. I guess we have to admit that we are getting old! BUT.. We have plans to sign up for other races this year! πŸ™‚

taiwan

11 to 18 June 2011 – Joined misterchewy and his parents on a one-week trip to Taiwan! Whoa ho! We ate and ate and ate and shopped and shopped and shopped! The only thing I disliked was the extremely hot weather and scorching sun. Apart from that, it was a good break away from work to spend time together with misterchewy πŸ™‚

Milk - 21

25 June 2011 – If you have not read about the surprise proposal that misterchewy came up with, with the help of his friends, you can read all about it here. I will always reminisce this day for the rest of my life. The day that I cried buckets because I was really touched by what he had come up with. :’)

The Surprise Proposal from CHEW ZHI HAO on Vimeo.

I could watch this video a thousand times and never get sick of it πŸ˜› Will definitely show it to my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren! Hehe!

IMG_8882

26 June 2011 – This day also happened to be our 11th monthsary, which was one day after the proposal. Best way to remember it? Take engagement shots! πŸ˜›

2010 vs 2011

26 July 2011 – Exactly a month later, we celebrated our First Year Anniversary. Went back to Raindrops Cafe where we first became officially together. I suggested we should wear the same thing, go back to the same place and pose the same way for our photo! πŸ˜› Just for the fun of it and for comparision sake!

27 July 2011 – Yay! The boy graduated from NTU with a Second Upper Class Honours in Chemical Engineering! He’s currently working in a reputable MNC and can take care of my expenses. LOL! Kidding about the second part πŸ˜›

31 July 2011 – My birthday fell on a Saturday and misterchewy took me to OChre for lunch! Loved the bling bling red fossil watch that he got me πŸ˜€

ZXW_1477

9 September 2011 – This is a very special day for us as it is misterchewy’s birthday and also the day of our solemnization! It was held at Grand Copthorne Waterfront. Interestingly, our post on spending our first night as husband and wife at the hotel rendered the most number of blog hits!

_MG_8286

27 to 29 November 2011 – We went on a short and impromptu mini honeymoon to Cameron Highlands. It was very enjoyable! πŸ˜€

_MG_0007

25 December 2011 – Definitely a very different feeling altogether when you know that it is your first time spending Christmas together as husband and wife. It was also our first time watching a musical together! Well, there’s always a first for everything. Besides, we have been together for about 1 and a half years only πŸ˜›

IMG_0880

31 December 2011 – Kissing 2011 goodbye! Haha! We were all ready to welcome 2012 at Clake Quay! Had some drinks at Rebel before the countdown began. Yeah can’t believe we chose beer over fireworks but we managed to catch a glimpse outside Liang Court.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my family, friends and readers for the support that they have given to this blog. May 2012 be filled with good eats, love, wealth and good health for all of you! πŸ˜€

We Had Ourselves a Merry Chewy Christmas 2011!

Christmas 2011

Hello everyone! This will be my final blog post before 2011 comes to an end! I had intended to post this right after Christmas but was too busy with… well, I don’t know either! πŸ˜›

_MG_9753com

On Christmas Eve, misterchewy and I sat down for dinner with my family at home. It was certainly a huge spread for us! I helped my mum with a teeny bit of preparation of course!

_MG_9758

My mum bought presents for everyone! Mine are mostly Rilakkuma stuff! πŸ˜€ Haha oh yeah my mum also got these reindeer horns for us. Not sure if we wore them the right way though!

_MG_9768

Santa Claus and his reindeer! Hahaha!

IMG_9771

Say hello to our hamster, Mambo! He’s about 6 months old now. Hehe! We decorated his home but he seemed a little scared.. Anyway his brother Jumbo is no longer around to spend this festive season together with us :'(

page

Here’s a closer look at some of the food we had! I had two cans of Tiger while eating and that totally messed up my appetite. There was really too much food on the table anyway πŸ˜› My favorites were the bacon with enoki mushroom, tiger prawns, salmon and german sausages!

_MG_9701ed-1

On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me… A pair of bling bling Chanel earrings! <3 <3 <3

_MG_9931

Who doesn’t love holidays?! We woke up at 10am and lazed in bed for another hour before heading out for afternoon tea! Left misterchewy to do the planning because must let the guy take charge once in a while mah right? πŸ˜›

_MG_9797

After the awesome taitai and shaoye high tea experience at Arteastiq, misterchewy kinda got hooked and he thought that we should have something like this again! Reservations were made at The Courtyard at The Fullerton Hotel.

_MG_9792-1

Hehehehe I had actually ‘instructed’ misterchewy to dress up and it’s time to wear his Pedro shoes so in a way, I was hinting at him to take me to a somewhat more atas place πŸ˜› Glad he got the hint! Aiya but it was also because I bought tickets for us to watch Wicked at MBS!

_MG_9796-1

How do you like my new hairstyle? LOL. Bangs. I wanted an extreme makeover but I can’t bear to part with my long tresses. Went to Ivan of In Square Salon and he suggested cutting bangs for me for the edgy look. Plus my hair is quite thick so he worked some of his magic in that area as well. Heehee.

_MG_9801-1

The husband is not really a tea person. He’s more of a beer person. Haha! While browsing the TWG tea range on the menu, I commented that the Morrocan Mint Tea tastes like chewing gum and he wanted that. It tasted even better when we mixed some honey in it.

_MG_9799-1

I chose the Vanilla Bourbon which was not too bad either πŸ™‚

“Hello wifey.. Why you keep taking photos? Can eat already or not? I very hungry liao leh..” *grumbles* LOL.

Not entirely sure about normal days, but the afternoon high tea was priced at $48++ per pax. Everything is refillable, from the savory items to the sweets.

_MG_9925

_MG_9964

Obviously, I don’t have that kinda patience to go round taking photos of the entire elephant parade but I managed to pose with one of my favorite color! πŸ˜€

_MG_9988

I booked tickets online in November to watch Wicked – The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz and it was supposed to be a surprise! About a week before, the husband wanted me to drop some hints as to what his Christmas present would be and I can’t remember what I told him but he guessed it right! >_<

_MG_9995

We had to be seated by 7.15pm and took some pictures before entering the theatre. It was our very first time watching a musical together! At MBS too! πŸ˜€

_MG_0001

The stage setup looked quite promising huh? The show surely didn’t disappoint!

_MG_0007

During the interval, misterchewy bought the programme booklet and happily wished me “Merry Christmas” before presenting it to me. So funny la! I saw the person in front of us trying hard not to laugh. -_-

_MG_0012

Yup so this post sums up our very first Christmas spent together as Mr and Mrs Chew! πŸ™‚ Do ‘like’ our facebook page at www.facebook.com/missuschewy and be updated on our blog’s giveaway because we will be turning two in 2012! Cheers! Happy New Year in advance! πŸ˜€

The Chewy’s Mini Honeymoon at Cameron Highlands!

Mini Honeymoon at Cameron Highlands

The husband and I tied the knot on 9 September this year but due to our conflicting work commitment, it was really difficult for us to plan a honeymoon trip. As ironic as it may sound, it was also due to work that forced us to book a short trip to Cameron Highlands in late November! We booked our package on Thursday, packed our bags on Friday and left on Saturday! Talk about last minute travel! We had Shanghai, Hong Kong and even Japan in mind but we finally settled for Cameron Highlands because we figured that it would be impossible for us to plan a proper itinerary within such a short time frame. Cameron Highlands is very small and besides, it was the very first place that we shortlisted for our maiden trip together last year. Dropped the idea back then after gathering feedback that it’s a boring place. Hey, totally not true! We had sooooo much fun in Cameron Highlands! πŸ˜€ I call it a mini honeymoon because it was a short 3D2N stay and we did not even travel by air. However, at the end of this trip, we have come to realize that we didn’t have to spend a bomb on an extravagant honeymoon in order to be able to enjoy ourselves. Really, it’s the company that matters the most! πŸ™‚

26th coach

This is our fourth time travelling together and we would always wear our Donald Duck couple shirts that misterchewy bought from Tokyo Disneyland on the day of setting off! Easy to identify each other if we ever get lost.. Haha! Ok here’s a brief overview. We kinda celebrated our first monthsary at Malacca. Our second trip together was to Redang with misterchewy’s bunch of fydp friends! And then I joined misterchewy and his family on a trip to Taiwan! Haven finish uploading the photos onto Facebook >_< Ok anyway, we departed Singapore on the day of our 16th monthsary! Had a simple Thai dinner at Golden Mile Complex before boarding the coach at 10pm. Seats were very spacious and we watched a movie before concussing throughout the rest of the journey! We slept like two logs for the next 7 to 8 hours and amazingly, we could hold our bladder for that long too. LOL. We reached Brinchang slightly before 7am and were told to find ourselves some breakfast. Food was cheap and good!

_MG_8211

We transferred to a smaller shuttle bus before being driven up to Strawberry Park Resort. Since it was hours away before we could check into our room at about 4pm, we deposited our bags at the lobby and I changed into a pair of jeans while waiting for the tour guide to pick us up. Nice mini waterfall at the resort!

_MG_8524

The resort looks beautiful from the outside and we couldn’t wait to check out our room! Some people actually drove up to Cameron Highlands and most of them were from other parts of Malaysia.

flowers

Beautiful flowers can be found everywhere around the resort! We were busy snapping photos and the tour guide finally picked us up at 10.15am when they were supposed to reach about 15 minutes before. Claimed that there was a huge jam outside.

_MG_8242

True enough, there was a major traffic jam as we were there during the school holidays. A route that would normally take only 15 minutes could take as long as 3 hours now! Scary! Anyway we reached Sungei Palas ‘BOH’ Tea Centre at 11.25am. The tour guide told us to go for the factory tour, look around the gift shop and sit down for some tea and then look for him again at 11.40am. 15 minutes to do all that?! Impossible! Turned out that he went to pick his other customers from the other resorts nearby and dropped them off at the tea centre. We were the last. In other words, the rest in our tour group had about an hour I didnt think it was very fair to us so we just took our own sweet time taking photos and enjoying our food at the cafe. LOL.

BOH Tea Plantation

The view of the tea plantation from the cafe was breathtaking. Ok la actually I was feeling extremely pissed about the tour guide’s arrangement and when I saw how long the queue at the cafe was, my eyes rolled to the skies. And to make matters worse, the husband got me a blueberry scone when I thought he would be smart enough to get a strawberry cake or strawberry something for me. The first thing he said when he got to the table, “Eh sorry leh I wanted to get the strawberry cake but don’t know why I got you the blueberry scone instead.” -_- Major sigh.

_MG_8286

We gave up the factory tour because makan and take photos more important laaaah! Hahaha! πŸ˜›

mossy forest traile day

Second tour of the day was a short trek into the mossy forest where the wonders of nature awaits us. We came across a variety of pitcher plants of different shapes and sizes, beautiful wild orchids and herbal plants such as the famous ‘Kacip Fatimah’.

mossy forest trail2

Little did we know that we the mossy forest is also extremely muddy and yucky. The mud was like quicksand! I was the only one wearing slippers and mud splattered everywhere each time I lifted my feet. It was just too gross and I was thinking that we seriously need to turn back. Therefore, we barely managed 10 metres but it was a wise move! The others came back all dirty and had to rinse their shoes as seen in the above collage. Basically we were just camwhoring while waiting for them.

Tea Plantation Trek

The tour guide told us that we had more climbing to do at the next stop! I was contemplating if I should take off my slippers but I’m glad I had them on. Some parts of the tea plantation are quite steep and also very slippery as it had drizzled earlier on.

IMG_8339

After climbing for 10 minutes, we spent only 1 minute taking photos at the vantage point of the tea plantation because the rain got heavier! Sad. Anyway, it is also called the ‘Giant Green Carpet of Malaysia’.

IMG_8344

Look at the dark clouds! Nevertheless, we were rewarded with the spectacular sight of the rolling green hills. If climbing uphill was difficult, going downhill was a bitch. I slided a bit every now and then and each time, I would let out a piercing scream. Sorry I cant help it! The daredevils who skipped their way down were giggling at me, I know. πŸ™

IMG_8351

Yup and this is the souvenir we got from the tea plantation. LOL!

_MG_8355

The tour ended at around 4.30pm which also meant that we could check into our room instantly. I love our spacious studio room and the parquet flooring! Definitely gonna have it at least in our bedroom for our future house! πŸ˜€

in resort

We wanted to shop around at Brinchang but it’s really impossible to walk out from Strawberry Park Resort and so, we asked the reception to arrange for a cab. Camwhored in the room while waiting! Hahaha. I think the cab took about 40 minutes to get in because of the jam. Sigh.

_MG_8392

The cab looks very cute right?! In baby blue somemore! One of my favorite colors!

Strawberry Moment

Hehe we cabbed to Strawberry Moment Dessert Cafe! Besides the strawberry strudel and strawberry mousse, we also had strawberry milkshake. I personally found the desserts mediocre. Haha there’s free wi-fi. We walked over to Brinchang night market, which was open even in the day because of the school holidays. I think I got a couple of magnets and we then we cabbed back to the resort.

_MG_8467

Apart from breakfast, our two-night stay also came with steamboat dinner! Nice!

beer

I packed along my strawberry face masks which I bought in Taiwan. Actually I have many others like macaron, chocolate truffle, etc but of course must bring strawberry one right?! We are at Cameron Highlands after all! Hahaha. Yeah we forgot to buy beer when we were at Brinchang town and misterchewy suggested getting a bottle of Budweiser each from the hotel. 2 bottles cost a whopping 56RM after taxes! Haha we had a really good night’s sleep after drinking! πŸ˜›

breakfast at JTT

Even though our tour on the second day of our trip was scheduled to start at 2.30pm, we dragged ourselves up because the buffet breakfast at the resort’s Jim Thompson Terrace ends at 10am! The spread was quite good! We had nasi lemak, omelette, roti prata, etc.

around resort

Since we had more than 2 hours to kill, we kinda explored the entire resort!

around resort2

Strawberry Park Resort is quite a nice place actually! There’s a lovely garden too!

open terrace farming

Day Two’s tour wasn’t as exciting as the previous day’s but we weren’t complaining! We enjoyed getting close to the broccoli, corn, strawberries and other crops at the open terrace farm! Hahaha. Tried the corn and it was really sweet!

us at open terrace farm

Somehow, the farm reminded me of this game called Harvest Moon that I used to play! πŸ˜›

_MG_8720

Next up was the cactus farm, just a few minute’s ride from the previous destination.

Cactus farm

I thought that the cactus farm would be pretty boring but it turned out to be alright! We saw cactuses of all shapes, sizes and colors. The tour guide told us that there were 3000 types.

us at cactus farm

Mouth itchy, so we bought cup corn and sweet potato balls to munch on while marvelling at the cactuses. Hehe!

strawberry farm

Strawberry farm! This is what I had been waiting for! LOL. Couldnt wait to pick all the strawberries in sight! The tour guide told us that coconut fibre is used to grow the strawberry plants as it does not contain any bacteria.

us at strawberry farm

Also, he took a good look at all the (young) couples and told us that strawberries are a symbol of love. LOL. Cuz strawberries are red, looks kinda like a heart shape, and are sweet and sour just like how relationships should be!

_MG_8744

<3<3<3

Organic farm

Guess what is being used as fertilizer for these veggies at the organic farm? Volcanic soil. Plenty of nutrients! Somehow they managed to find out that these flies are attracted to the color yellow and by pasting yellow stickers around, there isn’t a need for pesticide.

tea time

Even though we were going to have dinner in like less than two hours, I decided to try the scones with strawberry jam at the organic farm. The husband went for a cup of hot strawberry chocolate. Heavenly!

Flower Nursery

The flower nursery was another few kilometres away. These flowers will come in time for Christmas and Chinese New Year! They smell lovely too!

night market

Sumptuous steamboat dinner as part of the tour package! I guess that area that we were seated at can be considered alfresco dining. Haha. Eating steamboat in a nice cool weather is bliss! Decided to shop around the Brinchang Night Market before heading back to the resort. Couldn’t believe that the husband when he said he wanted to tabao nasi ayam back! Since it was our last chance at ‘shopping’, I bought all the cute strawberry items in sight. Hahaha!

last day at Cameron

Although our mini honeymoon trip was a very impromptu and short one, we really enjoyed ourselves to the max! It was nice snuggling up close to each other in Cameron Highland’s cool weather too! πŸ˜› Lastly, I would like to thank misterchewy once again for sponsoring my travel, accommodation and all other expenses for this trip. *Muacks* :333 P.S: I’m never gonna look at strawberries the same way again!

ROM Party Makeover by Ivan Hoo of In Square Salon!

ROM Party Makeover

Before the solemnization party at Symphony Heights, Maureen of misstamchiak.com was really gracious enough to offer me her complimentary hair styling and makeover by Ivan Hoo, Creative Director of In Square Salon. I was initially quite hesitant because I paisey mah. But then again, Maureen is the ‘mai lugi’ queen so I must learn from her. Haha! Just kidding! Anyway, In Square Salon is located at Blk 24 Sin Ming Road. I would say that Ivan is very professional and takes care of little details, like trying to cover up the mole on my cheek as seen in one of the photos πŸ˜› I quite like my overall ι€ εž‹ even though it took me some time to get used to my (temporarily) curled hair! It was a jaw dropping moment for the husband the moment he saw me. He commented that my face and nose are much sharper. Haha ok thanks I know that my nose is ridiculously flat πŸ™ Once again, a big thank you to Ivan and to Maureen for the lovely photos in this blog post! πŸ˜€
