ROM Parties at HomeTeamNS Pasir Ris Chalet (10th September 2011) & Symphony Heights (24th September 2011)

_MG_4647-horz

The day after our solemnization at Grand Copthorne Waterfront, misterchewy and I headed straight for HomeTeamNS Pasir Ris Chalet the instant we checked out of the hotel. Our guests for that evening were mostly misterchewy’s relatives. I shall let the photos do the talking!

_MG_4963

My nails were done by Krist Goh! You can check out her website for more info. Yes I know that there are probably a thousand and one manicurists out there. Celes recommended Krist to me and you know how powerful word-of-mouth marketing is. Krist previously did bridal nails for me and I was really satisfied!

Grand Copthorne Waterfront: Spending Our First Night Together As Mr & Mrs Chew :)

_MG_4550

The weekend passed by in a flash, with the actual solemnization at Grand Copthorne Waterfront and solemnization party for another group of relatives at Home TeamNS Pasir Ris chalet occurring over two successive nights. I will be posting the photos taken on 9 Sept here as soon as our photographer is done!
9 September is also misterchewy’s birthday, which makes our wedding extra special 🙂

_MG_4577ed

We rolled into bed way past midnight and were feeling lazy to get dressed for the buffet breakfast the next morning 😛 Tried our luck by calling room service and they agreed to take our orders for breakfast even though we should have done so before 6am I think. I’m not sure if we had this special privilege because we were “The Wedding Couple” but we were appreciative of all nice gestures.

_MG_4583

Our American Breakfast spread! Not forgetting our beloved Tofu Oyako toys which accompanied us throughout our pre-marital journey 😀

_MG_4590

Mr Chew and I chose poached eggs with chicken sausages, bacon and hash brown. While eating, the both of us realized that there wasn’t any hollandaise sauce! Hahaha 😛

_MG_4599

Our bread basket which consisted of muffins, croissant, and danish pastries. It was a pity that it was largely untouched because we were feeling rather full from our half eaten bowl of cereal and hot chocolate.

_MG_4622

Here’s a sneak peak for the celebration that took place the next day at the chalet! This is the only photo that turned out grainy after some adjustments but the rest were ok 😛 Thanks for dropping by and stay tuned! Lovely Monday, everyone! 🙂

Shunjuu Izakaya: Yummy Yummy Sumiyaki (Charcoal Grill)

_MG_3405com

Hot on the heels of our lunch at Ochre and Harry Potter movie date was dinner at Shunjuu Izakaya! My parents and brother arranged to meet us at Robertson Quay itself where the Japanese restaurant was located. Heh.. I must confess that BB Chew and I were still feeling quite full so we didn’t order much 😛

_MG_3320
Sashimi Moriawase ($40)

We began the meal with a delectable selection of fresh raw fish that whetted our appetite and left us wanting more. Do I even need to elaborate further? 😛

_MG_3325
Jagaimo Wakame no Kaki ($10)

These fried potato balls make a great snack! One was enough for me because it was quite filling.

_MG_3340
Ninniku Cha-han ($6)

Don’t bother with plain white rice when you can have a bowl of fragrant garlic fried rice which is really satisfying to go along with those charcoal grilled sticks! Watch the calories though 😛

_MG_3351
Sake Be-kon ($9 for 2 sticks)

We were fairly amused that the sticks used kinda look like ice cream sticks. That aside, the salmon rolled with bacon was nicely grilled with a slightly melt-in-the-mouth centre which was really amazing! I wonder how they did it!

_MG_3352
Buta Bura ($5 for 2 sticks)

I absolutely fell in love with these pork belly sticks! Although lightly charred on the surface, these were incredibly succulent and tender!

_MG_3358
Ebi Tempura ($15)

Tempura prawns were puny.. Kinda pathetic. Mehhh.

_MG_3337
Shittake Nikuzume ($6)

My much adored shittake mushrooms wrapped in bacon! Surprisingly, the bacon wasn’t too salty for us.

_MG_3366
Hotate Bacon Maki ($10 for 2 sticks)

These scallops rolled with pork were just juicy beyond words! The very first bite was unforgettable and I was really overwhelmed with surprise. This is definitely our favorite for the night!

_MG_3389com

I was really damn full but my mum insisted on getting a cake for me. One slice also 爽 la. Lol. It was a super yummy piece of chocolate tart from Laurent Bernard Chocolatier just directly opposite! Hmm.. Crunchy hazelnut praline and rich, smooth dark chocolate definitely gave me a sugar rush! Thanks to my dad for treating us to dinner! Personally, I find that the food is slightly over priced but I would still recommend Shunjuu Izakaya. It’s quite a nice, relaxing place to unwind with some yummy charcoal grill and beer or sake.

OChre Italian Restaurant: Saturday Eat-All-You-Can Pizza & Pasta

_MG_3206

Ahem.. Have I ever mentioned that July is my favorite month? 😛 My birthday! And this year, we had other awesome events like our One Year Anniversary & BB Chew’s Convocation which also took place in July! Anyway, I left Mr Chew to plan the itinerary! So lunch it was at OChre Italian Restaurant which is located on the 11th level of Orchard Central. Look at this cute little reservation card! It made us smile 🙂 Shucks, we forgot to bring it back as a form of keepsake. Oh well! 🙂

284020_10150283270298748_515933747_7847140_412995_n

OChre Italian Restaurant has a very lovely and intimate ambience that makes you feel at ease with its open kitchen concept where you can watch the chefs if you’re seated indoors. We passed by the place a couple of times earlier this year but we never went in. We prefer simplicity on usual days. Hehe. Ochre was kinda empty on a Saturday afternoon. Less than half the place was filled.

_MG_3202

How many of you out there are currently dating a food blogger? Haha is it really stressful when it comes to special occasions when you’re the one who’s doing the planning? The boy confessed that he spent an entire day doing his research at home and had a few back up plans before finally settling on OChre! We were both in for a pleasant surprise upon finding out that there’s this Eat-All-You-Can Pizza & Pasta (selected items only) at just $22+ (yup only one + because there’s no service charge!) per person on Saturdays during lunch from 11.30am to 3pm ! 😀 😀 😀 Now you know where to go this Saturday, don’t you? 😉

_MG_3213

Thanks BB Chew for my very first birthday present of the day! A plate of pasta! Hahaha! XD

Seafood Linguine
Seafood Linguine, White Wine Sauce

Nicely infused with flavors from the sea, the seafood linguine in white wine sauce had a nice, firm bite to it and was well executed. If my memory doesn’t fail me, I think it was my first time eating pasta with red chilli slices? Yup but it doesn’t matter. I licked my plate clean. The portion is just right to make one feel satiated.

_MG_3211

Now, THIS is my biggest birthday present! Haha kidding! No wait, I’m darn serious. And that’s the cute and handsome Executive Chef Kentaro standing in the background. Haha Mr Chew is going to kill me!

Tagliatelle
Tagliatelle with Mussel & Zucchini, Tomato Cream Sauce

I say, tagliatelle is like the equivalent of our chinese meepok ta and I’m always very amused when I see one. Tomato cream sauce is perfect for people who simply cannot decide between a tomato based and cream based pasta. It’s actually quite nice because the tomato flavor wasn’t that intense. Mussels were fresh and bouncy! Boing boing! 😛

_MG_3240com

What did I say about eat-all-you-can? Ok la we weren’t that hungry so we had just one more pizza to share! 🙂

Pizza
Funghi Mushrooms & Mozzarella Pizza

Enough of seafood! Besides, we have this tendency to pick seafood pizzas over everything else. We wanted change! Chewy Charles suggested having the mushrooms pizza and I didn’t have any objections. The pizza definitely did not come out of the wood fire oven but it was decent nonetheless. Biscuity thin crust and the mozzarella cheese were heavenly! Can’t say much about the mushrooms though.

_MG_3249ed

Thanks for the birthday lunch treat BB Chew! Now I must think of how to celebrate your birthday. After our solemnization of course! 😀

_MG_3265ed

We took the stairs and went up to the rooftop! Nice place to take pictures 🙂

_MG_3273ed

My very awesome Mummy got me this LV Damier Azur Canvas in cream color! She bought this about a month back and it’s my first time carrying it 😀

_MG_3279ed

The boy is still crazy about doing levitation shots! -___-

BB Chew promised a MAGICAL birthday celebration and he was being really cheeky because he booked tickets to watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in 3D! So confirm got magic. Ahlamak! Ok lor, at least I finally got to watch it after so long! 😀

BB Chew Graduates From NTU + Paradise Dynasty Lunch! :D

268533_10150714780275724_720300723_19869222_2103691_n

My dearest boy has officially graduated from Nanyang Technological University with a Degree in Chemical Engineering! Yes, he f*cking did it! Haha! I’m really very proud of him because he has been awarded Second Upper Class Honours! Yeah it’s not first class but second upper is second best ok? Hahaha! Anyway in case you’re wondering, I didn’t do as well as him but I got more than just a pass degree. Lol.

DSC_7810com

A few weeks before the NTU Convocation, the only NUS graduate joined Chewy Charles and his very awesome fydp group mates for a Graduation Photoshoot! The shoot was spread over two weekends and although it was a pain having to drag ourselves up in the wee hours of the morning, all of us really had a lot of fun getting dressed in our robes and strutting our stuff (ok kidding) everywhere we went! 😛 We have Joel, a very good photographer in our group to help us with composing the shots, as well as the photoshopping thereafter! Hmm but it also means that he appeared in very few photos. Anyway, a big thank you to Joel! 🙂 Here are some of my favorite shots taken at Botanical Gardens, Punggol Beach, KTM railway track, NTU and Raffles Place! Enjoy! 😀

Chewy Charles’ convocation fell on a Wednesday so I took leave from work to witness his 10 seconds of fame on stage! Wouldn’t miss it for the world!

_MG_3074

Honestly, it was really boring having to sit through the different schools of engineering before it finally came to the Chemical Engineering batch of graduates. I was trying my best to stay awake. I did a few test shots and finally decided to crop off the sea of motarboards sitting in front of me. Lol! Congrats Mr Chew! 😀

_MG_3089

_MG_3087

_MG_3122

So where does one go to after graduating? One goes to Paradise! Haha Paradise Dynasty I mean! 😛 Chewy Granny must be really happy for her grandson and she insisted that this meal would be on her! How nice! 🙂

_MG_3098
Pan Fried Pork Dumplings ($3.60 for 3)

All of us thought that these pork dumplings were pretty good. Some dimsum places serve pan fried dumplings that turn out all hard, especially at the sides. The ones at Paradise Dynasty were not the least bit oily and were nicely pan fried at the bottom.

_MG_3100
Chilled Jellyfish

The chilled jellyfish took me by surprise because it was very clean tasting and I half wondered if that was supposed to be the case.

_MG_3103
Sauteed French beans with minced pork

Hmmm I’m not a fan of french beans but Chewy Charles’ parents liked this.

_MG_3105
La Mian with sliced pork in signature pork broth soup ($9.80)

Ok I admit. I had a ramen craving and settled for La Mian. Do I have any other choice? Haha. I wanted something simple for my tastebuds and The la mian with sliced pork in signature pork broth soup was perfect for me. It’s not surprising as to why the soup was so yummy and addictive. We heard that the signature stock consists of ingredients like pork bone, pork ribs and whole chicken which is simmered over slow fire for several hours prior to serving!

_MG_3108

I really have to hand it to the chefs who did a great job kneading and pulling the la mian. Those thin and silky threads certainly made a noodle lover like me very contented! 🙂 And let’s not forget the delicious and tender slices of pork that further enhanced the taste of this bowl of la mian.

_MG_3109
Shanghai Stir Fried Rice Cake

I wasn’t quite accustomed to the taste even though the rice cakes were sticky and had a very nice bite to it.

_MG_3116
Xiao Long Bao Sampling Basket ($13.80)

They missed out on our Xiao Long Bao order and it came to our realization only when we were waiting for our dessert. My favorite color is blue and this sampling basket doesn’t look quite complete without a blue XLB. Hahaha. As we only orderd one basket to share, I helped myself to the Foie Gras XLB and it was amazing that I could really taste the foie gras together with the minced pork! All along, I thought that these colorful XLBs were pretty gimmicky. Now, I’m dying for a revisit to try out the other flavors! 😛

_MG_3121
Pan Fried Pumpkin Cakes ($3.20 for 3)

I think it was my first time having pan fried pumpkin cakes and I’m glad to declare that I loved it! It kinda resembles our chinese nian gao but it’s definitely less sweet. Chewy texture, I like! 😉

Raindrops Cafe: Relieving Our Memories 365 Days Later.. :)

<3 @ raindrops

We wanted to find the perfect place to celebrate our One Year Anniversary but we couldn’t decide exactly where. And then, it hit us. “Why don’t we go back to Raindrops Cafe?” After all, misterchewy and missuschewy had a lovely and memorable dinner there on the day we got together as a couple 🙂

2011 at cineleisure

Firstly, allow me to digress from the topic of food. The food review will come in the later part of this post 😛 Right after we got together on 26th July 2010, we took a photo before our movie started at Cineleisure. And one year later, here we are at the very same spot, dressed in the same clothes and doing the exact same pose 🙂

2010 vs 2011

Here’s a bigger photo for comparison! What say you? 😛

Raindrops Cafe @ Scape

Raindrops Cafe, located at *Scape, is pretty much still the same except that they have removed a couple of tables so that the place is not as cramped as before. The thing about Raindrops that attracted me right from the start is its glass walls because it gives me the feeling of being enclosed in a little capsule. Hehehe 🙂

DSC04250

This photo was taken back then when they were still using these cute polka dotted napkins! <3

DSC04255

Hahaha that was then! Omg I don’t know what to say! >_<

missuschewy @ raindrops

Who would have thought that one year later, we would be back here relieving our memories? Even though it’s been only a year, we learned many valuable lessons from each other 🙂

DSC04253

Haha Chewy Charles with his long floppy hair which I couldn’t tahan 😀

misterchewy @ raindrops

He will always be the silly cute boy in my eyes! 😛

_MG_2929
Beer Battered Mushrooms ($8)

Ok enough of camwhoring. Here comes the food! These button mushrooms, coated with beer batter and deep fried to a shade of golden brown, were surprisingly juicy. I have always thought that nothing beats portobello mushrooms. A pity it was only juicy, and that was it. On the whole, this starter was just bland. We were joking that these mushrooms cost about a dollar each.

_MG_2938
Mushroom Carbonara ($16)

After an unexciting starter, I was glad that my Mushroom Carbonara turned out alright. The penne was cooked al dente and tossed in light cream sauce that wasn’t at all watery, much to my delight. However, I couldn’t determine if it was the maplewood smoked bacon or the cream sauce that made this dish salty. The saltiness was bearable but I had to gulp down some water after I was done with my pasta.

Fish & Chips ($15)

Again, beer was used as in an ingredient for the batter for frying the pacific cream dory. The fish was crisp, light and tasted decent. However, it was not enough to fill my man’s stomach. We decided to skip desserts at Raindrops and proceeded elsewhere 😉

Sarang: Korean cuisine in the Heart of Singapore

Valentine's Day 2011

I had planned to post this as soon as Valentine’s Day was over but due to my crazy schedule last week, I only have time to do so over the weekend. The boyfriend and I spent Valentine’s Day together for the first time and we went to the ever crowded Orchard Road. We were indeed one of the many blissful looking couples walking hand in hand that day. 😀

Sarang

Initially, we had a few places in mind but decided to use them for other occasions in the near future 🙂 I happened to find out about Sarang’s “Jamulsoe” Set ($51.20++ for 2) while reading a copy of The Straits Times’ weekly supplement, Urban. A Jamulsoe is a “love lock” as seen in the first photo. This is known in Korea as a symbol of eternal love where couples write their wishes on a card and proceed to affix the lock on a fence. The key is then thrown away, flung into the sea perhaps. Even though the set dinner was a steal, the food wasn’t really fantastic. All dishes are sharing portions.

Romeo & Juliet Drink Set

I’m definitely not calling ourselves Romeo and Juliet but this is the Romeo & Juliet Drink Set which in reality, is two glasses of apple spritzers. So here’s a toast to everyone who’s madly in love.

Fishball

The appetizers were not included in the menu and I’m not sure if they serve the same thing on normal days. This cup of Fishball Soup looked odd to me. It’s just a piece of fried fishball sliced into two halves. Chewy Charles commented that the soup was bland.

Appetizer

The Seaweed Crackers, on the other hand, tasted quite good.

Ginseng Chicken Soup

After having tried authentic Korean food during my two overseas trips to Korea, the standard of the food at Sarang fell short of my expectations. I was surprised that the chefs are Korean so I’m half wondering if they wanted their food to suit the locals’ taste buds. The taste of ginseng in the Ginseng Chicken Soup was very mild. Glutinous rice had been stuffed in the whole chicken. This is one of my favorite Korean dishes because it’s very nutritious.

Sarang Japchae

We both liked the Sarang Japchae. A simple dish of vermicelli tossed in sesame oil that tasted a little sweet. It was topped with strips of fried egg, vegetable and black fungus.

Jeon Platter

The Jeon Platter is a mix of Scallion, Kimchi and Dory pancakes. Chewy Charles liked the Kimchi one best. The heart shaped pancakes looked a little ugly to me though 😛

Super Star (Korean marinated pork)

I have no idea why the Korean marinated pork is called Super Star. Besides pork, beef and chicken are two other available choices. The meat was not exactly very tender. We ended up eating it together with the mashed potato and corn.

Strawberries & Cream Delight

I never expected the Strawberries & Cream Delight dessert to turn out this sour. I want my desserts to be sweet! We gave up eating this after a few mouthfuls.

Sarang Heart

Even though the standard of the food was a huge disappointment, we had fun writing and decorating our cards to be affixed together with the love lock on the fence 🙂 Thanks for everything, Mr Chewy! Sarang Hae Yo~ 😀

Naturally, my Valentine was (and will be :P) Mr Chewy. I wasn’t able to make it for the Fish & Co. xoxo Valentine’s Day with Bloggers and we went to the Glass House outlet in the evening. Loved the casual atmosphere and the live band was awesome.

Prelude to Sensation

Whisper sweet nothings into each others’ ears as you sip your fizzy Exotic Drinks . Somehow, Mr Chewy and I did not engage in any For Play
but I’m sure that the Seafood Chowders are gonna be hot and steamy, as promised 😉

Main Inter-Course

Like what I mentioned earlier, Mr Chewy and I jumped straight to the XOXO Platter for 2. As you can see, there is so much food in this platter and we simply didn’t know where to begin! It is clearly a generous array of seafood such as crispy salmon served with spicy mango vinaigrette, grilled peri-peri prawns and fried calamari coupled with blue mussels in tomato & pesto sauce, all served on a bed of paella rice and coleslaw. We both loved the fried calamari best! Love is sharing, and what’s better than sharing a platter for 2? 🙂

Sweet Highs

After the main course, it’s time to get a high out of the Sexy Fudgy Chocolate Cake! The best way to eat the cake is to pair it with the vanilla ice cream. Take turns to feed each other and enjoy! *wink wink*
