Penny University Singapore Review

How did you guys celebrate Halloween? It was pretty uneventful for misterchewy and I because he had been diagnosed with dengue fever last week and was battling this horrible virus at home. Prior to this, he was away for his first ever high-key ICT for 2 weeks and had to go outfield for 2D1N. I’m quite sure the stupid mozzie bit him during his reservist! >:( Poor boy had fever on and off for days, and also symptoms of dengue such as backache, rashes etc. He even blacked out and collapsed on the floor one Saturday morning! :O

Glad that his condition improved by leaps and bounds! Since he was stuck at home (both mine and his) for more than a week, I took him out for some fresh air near my in-laws’ in the East. We wanted to check out another café nearby but I’m guessing they stop serving breakfast really early since lunch is served from 12pm onwards. Scrapped the idea because we were sure to wake up late on a Sunday. LOL. Penny University serves all-day breakfast! 🙂

By the time we stepped out of the house yesterday, it was already past 12pm. Cute Halloween décor outside Penny University. The café is really small and packed to the brim. We had to wait in line for about 10 to 15 mins which wasn’t too painful.

We had to place our orders at the counter and pay upfront. Instead of the usual table number tag, we were given this. Got number behind la.

I asked for Peppermint Tea but was served Peppermint Hot Chocolate ($4). Okay nevermind. This is quite nice and not too thick.

I love yogurt but I don’t usually order it outside. My bowl of Vanilla-infused Greek Yogurt with Granola ($6) came with blueberries and strawberry slices. It doesn’t have that sourish taste like other kinds of yogurt and I think it had been mixed with a little bit of honey. Anyway it’s a really delicious treat!

I knew the yogurt wasn’t going to be enough so I ordered the Cheese Toasties with Marmite and Tomato ($4.50) to share. You can also choose to substitute the tomato slices with poached eggs. Do you have any idea how much I love Marmite? I grew up eating it and I eat it practically with everything! I have it with plain rice, I dump a dollop of it in my corn soup, etc etc etc. Ok that was when I was still in primary and secondary school. LOL. So glad I ordered this!

After eating fishball beehoon soup for so many days in a row, misterchewy finally had Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon ($12) for a change! Hahaha. Instead of toasted English muffins, the poached eggs were topped on sourdough toasts which were a good complement too. We certainly enjoyed our brunch at Penny University! The most pleasant surprise? Total bill came up to only $26.50. 🙂

Symmetry Cafe Singapore Food Review

The husband and I visited Symmetry Cafe along Jalan Kubor sometime in August. We love cafe hopping especially when there are truffle fries involved but this time, a simple brunch of eggs and whatnot left us about $80 poorer. Anyway, I’m not sure about misterchewy but I absolutely lurrrve the indie vibe that Symmetry Cafe gives! Also, the music simply rocks!

My drink. I think it was tea and ginger and something else. Quite refreshing.

Hot Chocolate with bits of lightly burnt marshmallows for misterchewy. We were quite amused by the cutesy rabbit choc art. It looks like Miffy don’t you think?

DSCF0809

Not sure why they call it Potato Fries ($14) but I’m glad we found out that these are truffle fries if not we wouldn’t have ordered it! Not bad not bad. The smell of truffle oil is clearly discernible although I prefer it to be overpowering. Come on, somebody hand over that bottle of truffle oil! Lol. Ok seriously, I wouldn’t mind coming back for these if I happen to be around the area (Bugis).

Told you I’m obsessed with anything truffle. The Truffle Eggs Mushroom ($21) was definitely up to my expectation. I reckon it’s pricey for scrambled eggs (ok drizzled with truffle oil), hashbrown, mushrooms, toast and some greens. Wonder if eggs are overpriced or overrated these days. But I really did enjoy the truffle scrambled eggs which was soft and wet, just the way I like it. There’s something unique about the toast too, especially when paired with the blob of blueberry butter cream. You gotta try it for yourself!

Hubby Chewy had the Eggs Benedict ($20) which is a very safe choice and I’m glad he liked it. The muffins had a nice chewiness to it, with light crispiness around the edges. Poached eggs were just perfect! They were oozing with golden yellow goodness when being poked into.

Will I visit Symmetry Cafe again? Highly likely! 🙂
