It’s not that I like to praise my husband but I really think it’s very sweet of him to surprise me with a box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts recently. I’m sure many of us are aware that Krispy Kreme managed to drum up tremendous hype even before it officially hit Singapore on 12 October this year.
Thanks to a tipoff from a fellow tennis player whom I befriended at NUS, I was convinced enough to bring back a dozen Original Glazed doughnuts from Hong Kong International Airport in 2007. Subsequently, I introduced these yummy babies to misterchewy during our Bangkok trip last year.
Singaporeans love to queue for anything and everything, and as long as they see a queue, they will queue for god knows what. On the contrary, I hate queueing because I’m not the most patient person on Earth. I get really grumpy even if I have to wait for the train for 3 minutes. I always tell misterchewy, “Wah lao. Next train coming in 3 minutes! Can cook maggi mee leh!” And I didn’t queue for any of my McD Hello Kitties. My bro and misterchewy did 😛
These photos were snapped by misterchewy because he felt that I should do a Krispy Kreme review for all my lovely readers like you. Very thoughtful. Bonus points for him. Hahaha.
Colorful doughnuts to tempt you further as you queue!
Krispy Kreme staff went round giving out Original Glazed doughnuts to customers in the queue!
Here’s the box that misterchewy presented to me! Was really excited to unravel its contents 😀
Whoohoo! Of course he had to get the legendary Original Glazed doughnuts! And there were half a dozen to share among my family members as well. Krispy Kreme is really one of a kind. I have never tasted doughnuts with a texture this soft, fluffy, chewy and pillowy. Were they sweet? Even with a sweet tooth like ours, we found them really sweet but the both of us managed to each finish up two in one sitting. *Sugar overdose* Goes well with a cup of hot green tea! 🙂
The choices for the other half dozen went to an assortment of other flavors that misterchewy picked out which were all pretty good!
Here’s the cross-section of the Chocolate Iced Custard Filling. No there was nothing icy about this one but it’s basically a chocolate coated doughnut generously filled with delicious custard. Boy, were we tempted to grab another one!
For a chocolate lover like misterchewy, it’s not surprising that he chose the Glazed Chocolate Cake. I know it looks funny here but its soft and cakey texture actually crumbles wonderfully in your mouth. This was way too sweet for me! One (in a single sitting) is more than I can handle 😛
Cookies and Cream did not live up to my expectations. For a start, its actual appearance is a vast difference from what’s on Krispy Kreme’s flyers and website. Cookie Monster must have gobbled up the cookies bits. I feel shortchanged. LOL.
I quite liked the New York Cheesecake despite it being a little soggy. It had been generously stuffed with cheesecake such that it oozes out when the doughnut is been bitten into. Another one of my favorites!
And lastly, how could we give the Red Velvet a miss? I adore this as well! Also very moist and crumbly. Totally worth every calorie, IMHO! But then again, if your threshold for sweet stuff is really low, then I don’t think you will enjoy any of the assorted doughnuts because they are really really sweet!
