Couple Activity: Sushi and Burger Handmade Miniature Food Clay Art

DSCF0148-horz

There are so many unique things that you and your partner can do together as a couple and here’s what misterchewy and I did on our 3rd year dating anniversary! DENG DENG DENG DENG! Handmade miniature food clay art! One word, “FUN!!” best describes this! Even the husband thought so too! ๐Ÿ˜€

DSCF0094

Before I show you a little bit on the process of making the miniature food clay, these are the final products taken immediately after the workshop because we wanted to use the toothpicks for size comparison purposes ๐Ÿ˜› For the lesson, we could also choose to make bread, pastries, tarts or cakes other than sushi or burger. We decided to make our favourite food so it was sushi for me and burger for misterchewy! ๐Ÿ™‚

DSCF0073

The afternoon slot was already filled so we went in the morning, before checking into our hotel for our staycation. The workshop was held in a small room inside a camera shop at Chinatown, Pagoda Street, which is about 3 minutes walking distance from the MRT station.

DSCF0031

I did some online research and finally settled on attending Kin’s workshop. Firstly, Kin’s works are amazing and impressive. Secondly, she had a slot for us on our anniversary day even though it was at 10.30 in the morning. Lastly, Chinatown is near Novotel Clarke Quay so we didn’t have to travel all over Singapore.

DSCF0044

I asked Kin and she told us that she has been making miniature food clay for over 8 years! Not only is Kin very knowledgeable about the different types of materials suitable for making various types of miniature food, she is also very generous with her information which is what I like about her. You can ask her many questions and she will tell you as much as she knows.

DSCF0035

To start things off, I was given a small piece of resin clay and even though it was already white, I had to mix in a bit of white to make it even whiter. And from the piece of clay, I had to divide it equally into 4 smaller pieces because I was going to make 4 types of sushi.

DSCF0037

Poking holes to make it look like Japanese rice. Hehe.

DSCF0038

Looks cute right! One of them is without holes because I would be wrapping ‘seaweed’ around it.

DSCF0040

In the meantime, Kin was teaching misterchewy how to make salad for his burger set.

DSCF0048

Made tamago sushi first! Sorry I didn’t take the entire process because it would take up plenty of time. So you just use your imagination ok? ๐Ÿ˜›

DSCF0049

Tuna sushi! The husband and I were amazed and how realistic the tuna looked! Ok la maybe not mine, but the one Kin did as a sample looked damn real!

DSCF0055

DSCF0057

Apple pie done by misterchewy! We were giggling away because his apple pie looked kinda thick and fat, and Kin commented that it seemed as though someone had already taken a bite out of it. LOLOLOL.

DSCF0060

Does my salmon sushi look adorable? Actually I’m not very happy with it because I made the indentation on the salmon a little too deep and when I used a white pen to line it, the whole thing looks ruined. Haiiii. But still quite cute because it’s about the size of my fingertip. Haha.

DSCF0062

The husband showing off his burger! But still got some finishing touches to be made!

DSCF0065

The last sushi that I made was the ebi sushi. It was the only sushi that I had to use a brush to paint the colors on the prawn. Not easy ok! Before I started painting, Kin showed me more than 10 failed samples done by her students. Those really cannot make it one. And I actually laughed at one particular prawn which she said looks like a washing board. I stopped laughing immediately because I realized I have not started painting my own. *Stressed* Thankfully, I think it turned out pretty alright for a first-timer! ๐Ÿ˜€ From left to right, we have tuna sushi with prawn roe, salmon sushi, tamago sushi and ebi sushi. The ones in the background were done by Kin, which are a bit smaller than mine, and obviously much nicer too!

DSCF0069

Since the husband was still working on his burger set, I took some photos of Kin’s works on display.

DSCF0086

Yipee! 99% completed!

DSCF0091

The husband’s burger set! Got salad, apple pie, milkshake, French fries and burger!

DSCF0097

We spent about 3 hours and after the workshop, I requested to have a photo taken with Laoshi Kin! We were full of respect and admiration for her! Kin was really patient and she constantly gave us feedback and tips while we were working on our food clay. Kin had also been featured in numerous paper publications and she was also asked to make miniature Laksa as a gift for our ex-President MR. S R Nathan!

_MG_8160

Out of the 4 types of sushi, I spent the most time on painting the ebi sushi because I had to make sure it doesn’t look too fake. I was actually very worried and kept wondering, what if I also ended up with a washing board lookalike prawn?! The salmon and tamago sushi seemed easy to make but they are also not that easy. Kin said, practice makes perfect!

_MG_8164

I thought misterchewy’s burger set looks quite impressive! Very surprising because both of us are not exactly the art and craft kinda people. Before the start of the workshop, Kin asked if we had any experience in miniature clay making or any other types of handicraft. We hesitated for quite some time before I said, “Erm… The last time I did real art and craft was in primary school?!” LOL! The husband found that the top bun of the burger was the hardest to make. He had to redo the thing at least 4 times because the shape was not perfect. Kin told him that there is a certain technique to moulding it. Again, practice makes perfect!

_MG_8112-horz

Kin updates her website on a regular basis and features her latest works on http://rainbowclayminiature.blogspot.sg/
For more information on the different types of workshops that she conducts, you may visit her website here http://www.kinsminiatureworkshop.com/
I have also recently found out that Kin has a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Rainbowclayminiature-Kin/225509057484186

Wedding Sponsor: Beehoon Productions Instant Prints Photobooth

Sponsored Post

17

Howdyyy chewyyys! Previously, I blogged about our wedding gatecrash and tea ceremony, followed by our wedding banquet dinner in a separate post. Today, I’m gonna tell you more about another very awesome wedding sponsor of ours! The husband and I were so thrilled because we had been toying with the idea of having an instant prints photobooth set up at our wedding banquet venue for the longest time! ๐Ÿ˜€

bhp_logo (white BG)

Founded in July 2010, Beehoon Productions (็ฑณ็ฒ‰ๅˆถไฝœ) specializes in cinematography and photography for weddings, parties and events. No doubt founder of Beehoon Productions, Nigel Tan is barely 3 years into this business, but after looking at his various works, I can truly feel his sincerity through the tremendous effort that he puts in, in producing the best memories for his clients. Not forgetting that Nigel and is team are young and full of vibrant energy, anything and everything is possible! They have even ventured into underwater wedding photography!

ZC-3

About 1.5 months before our wedding, we met up with Nigel to have a look at the quality and past designs of their instant prints artwork. Basically, there are two sizes to choose from – 4R or card sized prints. Besides the photobooth, Beehoon Productions also offer the “Roaming Photographer” instant prints service whereby the photographers will roam around the reception and banquet to ask for shots.

ZC-2

Of course, we opted for the photobooth because there is a wide variety of cute and fun props that our guests can choose to pose with at the photobooth! These props definitely liven up the photos and also give an extra touch of wackiness!

ZC-1

Beehoon Productions took about 30 minutes to do their setup outside our ballroom at Orchard Parade Hotel and they were kind enough to stay till around 9pm in order to make sure that our guests had a chance at the photobooth. They were also very generous in sponsoring us unlimited 4R prints. At this point you must be wondering what printer they use! Beehoon Productions uses an industrial grade printer with a printing speed of around 12 seconds for each 4R photograph, which means that if you have 5 people in a group shot, it will only take about 1 minute for everyone to receive their instant prints!

ZC-13

My cousins seem to be having a good time at the photobooth!

ZC-8

More cousins! (LOL sorry my creativity in captioning is limited)

ZC-14

The idea is very simple. You queue, pick up as many props as you like, position yourselves properly in front of the backdrop and then strike your best pose for the camera guy! Speaking of backdrop, we chose a white one. There is also a pink and a blue backdrop, but you can only decide on one color. Beehoon Productions also offer, at a top-up, a live projections service whereby images can be viewed instantly while your event or wedding is ongoing.

30

Hahaha yeah call me bochup but I was simply too lazy to think of a layout design that I want and left everything to Nigel after sending him a few of our wedding photos for him to choose from. Basically, he cropped us out, together with ladder, blackboard, TV, stool and radio. Hahaha. I guess Nigel chose the wooden borders to fit our photo since it had some wooden elements in it. I chose to stay with this design so as not to complicate the overall outlook of the photo. Every customer is entitled to a unique customized border design which I think is really cool!

13

I have selected some shots to be shared in this post. You will be surprised that as many as eight or more people can fit into the photo booth!

The Chewys’ Wedding Banquet @ Orchard Parade Hotel

AAL-3096

Greetings chewys! You all very emo cuz it’s Monday right? Haiii me too. Didn’t have time to work on my blog on weekdays so I did this over the weekend. It’s another post flooded with many many photos taken by Jack and Aaron from ZX Workshop Photography during our wedding banquet! ๐Ÿ˜› If you have missed out on our earlier post on our wedding gatecrash and tea ceremony, here it is!

ZX8_4566

When misterchewy and I were looking for our wedding banquet venue, we were quite sure that our main focus was on the food. Everything else was pretty much secondary. We only went to Orchard Parade Hotel because we love Tunglok and the food is always remarkable.

AAL-2973

Actually, I kinda regretted a little after making our deposit because the ballroom is quite small and the ceiling is low. Oh wells.. It was comforting to know that everyone loved the food that night! ๐Ÿ™‚

The Chewys’ Actual Day Wedding 3 March 2013 Photos and Video

Hihi chewy chewy friends! Sorry ah I know the above a bit distracting but please hear what I have to say. YES! I’m finally able to share our actual day photos and video! Ok that’s all I have to say for now. Before you do anything, please watch the above video first! Just need to click on the play icon but you might need to be patient and wait for it to load. Anyway, it will help to understand the activities which took place in the day better. Hurry and watch it! The husband and I LOVEEEE the video and we have watched it several times! I think if we were to watch it one million times also won’t be sian. Our videographer, Chin of ZX Workshop Photography did such a marvellous job! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

ZX8_4164

I’m gonna share the photos taken during the day of our customary wedding in this post! But hor, I need to warn you that it’s a super photo-heavy post. More than 180 pics I think? ๐Ÿ˜›

ZX8_4391

Aiya cuz I really love the photos taken by our main photographer Jack and additional photographer Aaron from ZX Workshop Photography so I ended up sharing like 90% of the shots here! Jack was also our PG for our ROM. There will be a part two, and that’s when the banquet dinner photos will be shared ๐Ÿ™‚

ZX8_3698

The husband and I got together as bf and gf on 26 July 2010. About 3 months later, we applied for a BTO and got a pretty good queue number on our first try! Things kinda fell into place and we held our ROM on 9 September 2011 (09092011) shortly after misterchewy proposed a day before our 11th monthsary in June 2011. We agreed on another nice date 3 March 2013 (03032013) for our customary wedding! ๐Ÿ˜€

ZX8_3663

Needless to say, we had to wake up really early on this very important day! I couldn’t sleep the night before and ended up tossing in bed till about 11plus. Managed to wake up at 5am to shower and eat breakfast. My breakfast very simple one, just a small piece of kueh cuz I wasn’t hungry.

ZX8_3682

My makeup artist (MUA), PG Jack and VG Chin reached my place at 6am like what I had told them. All of them got cracking and no time was wasted. I wore pink contact lens on this special day! ๐Ÿ˜›

ZX8_3687

ZX8_3700

My bridesmaids arrived at around 6.15 to 6.30am and started preparing the ้…ธ็”œ่‹ฆ่พฃ (sour, sweet, bitter, spicy) concoction for the xiongdis to drink during the later part of the gatecrash!

ZX8_3703

ZX8_3706

ZX8_3726

ZX8_3742

ZX8_3746

ZX8_3747

It’s probably more obvious in this pic. Two days before the big day, I dyed my hair red. Some parts are fiery red because of the bleaching that was done earlier when I had my hair dip dyed purple last October.

ZX8_3749

ZX8_3758

Haha believe it or not, this super single bed can fit two ๐Ÿ˜› The husband and I were even contemplating on getting this bed size for our future home! LOL then got more space to move around.

ZX8_3762

Only 4 bridesmaids in this pic because the last one overslept! LOL. Luckily she stays just across the street, so Maureen and Bee went over to knock on her door.

AAL-2405

And in the meantime, misterchewy and his groomsmen were running through the programme sheet that the both of us came up with. This was done only at the very last minute and we were quite stressed over it. We tried to be as detailed as possible and sent the sheet to our Jack and our XDJMs for a once-over to familiarize themselves with their respective responsibilities.

AAL-2420

AAL-2446

Soon, misterchewy and his brothers were ready!

ZX8_3784

And so were we!

Still yam-ing until Maureen very sternly told them, “OK! ๅคŸไบ†๏ผๅ–๏ผ” (OK! Enough! Drink up!) and the guys really guai guai finish.

With some of my cousins, nephews and nieces from both my parents’ sides!
