Baby Cayla’s Lunar 4th Month Traditional Celebration

A32A9897

Hola chewy friends! It has been more than a week since we celebrated Mini misschewy’s lunar 4th month! Since it was on a Monday, misterchewy and I took leave just for this. The hubs sent Little misschewy to school in the morning and bought chicken drumstick on his way home. Over the weekend, my mum passed us the Marie biscuits and chives, and also angbao for Cayla! This time, we didn’t trim Cayla’s hair and if you are keen, you can read about Chanelle’s lunar 4th month celebration back in 2014!

A32A9909

1) Chives (Gu Chye)

Chives play a essential role in baby’s lunar 4th month celebration as older folks believe that rubbing chives along baby’s gums signifies a smooth sailing and painless teething journey. We didn’t boil the chives but simply soak the stalk in water for at least 30 minutes before rinsing it under running water. Not all supermarkets sell chives so do your homework early and buy the chives as near the celebration as possible to ensure its freshness!

A32A9920

2) Chicken Drumstick

I took a video of the hubs showing Cayla the drumstick and caught her swallowing her saliva as she eyed the piece of meat! Hahaha.

A32A9916

Oh yeah~ Looks like someone enjoyed licking the drumstick! This signifies that baby will be blessed with an abundance of good food! Two more months to your first taste of solids, Cayla! Hehehe.

IMG_1546

3) String of 12 biscuits

During Chanelle’s time, we used 8 big Marie biscuits and for Cayla, we had 12 small ones. My mum said, “One of each month of the year!” The hubs asked me, “Why Marie biscuits?” Honestly, I don’t know but gave him a lame reply that there are many holes to string the biscuits together lol. Once again, Cayla was caught trying to stuff all the biscuits into her mouth! LOL.

A32A9935

The hubs touched Cayla’s lips with each biscuit, while reciting “qit ta ta” (wipe dry). This is believed to minimise drooling in babies! Daddies and Mummies, don’t forget to eat all the biscuits to complete this ritual! The hubs and I split the share equally. Haha.

A32A9938

4) Red Packet (Ang Bao)

Cayla also received angbao from both grandmothers as a blessing! Hope you enjoyed this post! Stay connected with us on Instagram @missuschewy and on Facebook www.facebook.com/missuschewy 🙂

Chewy Junior #2 is on the way!

A32A7505

YES WE ARE PREGNANT!! 😀 We have been keeping this a secret for the longest time!
This piece of good news totally caught us by surprise last year because misterchewy and I weren’t planning for a second child so soon as we wanted to wait till Chanelle is slightly older. However, what has happened has happened, and there’s no turning back lol. I have always wanted to have at least two kids by 30 but didn’t have the courage to do so. I guess it’s fated! 🙂 I’m currently in my third trimester and will be popping sometime in August! We are keeping baby’s gender a surprise for now! 😉 As with my first pregnancy, Chewy Junior #2 has been pretty kind to me and I’m constantly in high spirits, even at work. Haha! During my first trimester, I experienced only very mild morning sickness but I was extremely lethargic especially during the first 6 weeks when I didn’t know I am pregnant! It’s weird that I still do not have any weird or strong cravings, just the occasional fast food perhaps. I’m thankful for being pregnant because I can indulge in ice cream before bedtime without any guilt! LOL. You should check out our fridge! We have like 4 tubs and 2 boxes of ice cream!

P5147645

I was about 5 months pregnant when we were in Japan, and it wasn’t the case that I wasn’t really showing yet. The thick layers of clothing helped to conceal my baby bump a little 😛 Here’s a clearer recent photo of 3 plus 1! 🙂 It feels really surreal that misterchewy and I are gonna be new parents all over again soon! Little misschewy is equally excited because we told her she’s gonna be a jie jie! Well, WE LOVE KIDS!! *Throws confetti and sprinkles baby dust* 😀

5 Reasons Why Merries Walker Pants is the Best Diaper for Your Active Child!

Advertorial

A32A7222

From time to time, I find myself browsing the numerous photos that I have taken of Chanelle since she was a newborn. I feel a tinge of sadness that she is no longer an innocent little baby with chubby fat rolls, yet at the same time, I am proud that Chanelle has now grown to become a feisty, inquisitive and increasingly active toddler. As parents, misterchewy and I firmly believe in providing only the best for our child if it is within our means. Needless to say, comfort is a top priority for us as it affects our child’s well-being across all levels on a daily basis.

P4151986

We find that this is especially true in the case of diapers for Chanelle, who has not really shown signs of readiness for toilet training at the moment. As with most young children, Chanelle has sensitive skin and she has tried various brands of diapers, even progressing from tape diapers to pants diapers now. We have always wanted to make the switch to pants diapers ever since Chanelle could start walking at 16 months but the diaper samples that we got either did not fit well, thus resulting in messy leakages, or were not absorbent enough which caused her skin to develop diaper rash. We almost gave up on our search for the perfect pants diapers until we discovered Merries Walker Pants soon after she turned two!

P4151982

We put the new and improved Merries Walker Pants to the test, and here are 5 reasons why Merries Walker Pants is the best diaper for your active child!

A32A7205

1. Exceptional Breathability

Made in Japan with premium quality, Merries Walker Pants exudes exceptional breathability, which is very important in my opinion because Chanelle is extremely active. Even at home, she doesn’t walk, but dashes around and likes to climb everything in sight. She perspires easily and the last thing I want to worry about is her skin developing diaper rash just because heat and moisture are not released throughout the day! Merries Walker Pants is designed with an all-round breathable sheet to release heat and moisture not only from pee but also perspiration, by allowing air to flow freely between the diaper and the skin. I’m particularly impressed by the airy channels around the waist of the Merries Walker Pants which allows heat and moisture to escape from the top as well! I can now rest assured that Chanelle stays dry all day, thanks to Merries Walker Pants’ exceptional breathability!

A32A7199

2. Comfortable Waist Fit

Thanks to Japan’s extensive research, Merries diapers provide ultra-comfort to babies. The soft gathers around the waist fit snugly and hold the diaper in place such that even when Chanelle’s diapers were full and heavy, her pee did not cause the Merries Walker Pants to slide down her waist. I’m also glad that given Chanelle’s round tummy and chubby yummy thighs, Merries Walker Pants do not cause her skin to develop any red marks or abrasions. I attribute this to the improved, cottony soft material used in Merries Walker Pants, thus giving my active toddler extra comfort! In addition, I have extra faith in Merries as Merries has been awarded a “Good Design Award” for its amazingly comfortable fit! (http://web.kao.com/sg/merries/gda/index.html)

Color-changing Wetness Indicator

3. Color-changing Wetness Indicator

Gone were the days when we had to keep grasping and patting Chanelle’s butt to determine if it was time for her diaper change! Plus, this old method was not fool-proof! Now, we only need to peek into her shorts or skirt. When the wetness indicator strips turn from yellow to dark green, we know that it is time to change her diaper!

Side Seal

4. Side Seal is Softer and Easier to Tear

Once again, I’m fascinated that the Merries Walker Pants have been designed with a softer side seal that is made easier to tear, resulting in less messy diaper changes especially when poo is involved.

Tear and Dispose

Diaper changes are no longer a struggle! Once the wetness indicator turns to dark green, tear the seals at both sides to remove diaper. Roll the pants diapers up and seal firmly with the tape at the back and dispose! Easy peasy!

merries-weight-rangepng_1462418111

5. Merries Total Range and new XXL pants

Merries Walker Pants carry the largest range of pants sizes, which run from size M to the new addition, XXL. XXL can fit children from 15 kg up to 28 kg, which is the only brand that caters to the heaviest weight range.

P4172003

I always receive comments that Chanelle is such a cheerful girl and I believe that a good disposable diaper contributes to this in one way or another. Merries Walker Pants supports freedom of movement in an active child, from playing to sleeping and leaves her skin free from any rash or discomfort.

The Chewys’ First Family Trip to Phuket

IMG_9236

WHOOHOO! In mid January, The Chewys went for our first vacation of 2015 and it was also our very first family trip with Little misschewy! We have always wanted to bring Chanelle overseas, especially after our last trip to Taiwan without her. It was a huge mistake back then when we booked our air tickets during my third trimester, thinking that we needed to spend some couple time without the baby immediately after my confinement! Needless to say, we missed Chanelle terribly during the trip and swore to ourselves, never again. Fast forward a few months later, we felt that Chanelle is ready and is quite adaptable, and as parents, we are also pretty confident about bringing her overseas. However, we weren’t sure how she would fare for the first flight so we decided to be safe and chose Phuket as our holiday destination because of its close proximity and also, we wanted a relaxing time at one of the Phuket villas. 🙂

_MG_5354

And so, the day came. We were very excited and a little bit nervous. Had to take a photo at the Departure gate before bidding my in-laws goodbye!

IMG_9221

We flew with Singapore Airlines for obvious reasons. Didn’t manage to get bassinet seats for the flight to Phuket so the hubs and I took turns to let Chanelle sit on our laps with the infant seat belt securely fastened. A family wefie before take off! 🙂

IMG_9226

In no time, we were high high up in the sky! The curious girl peeped out of the window a few times. Chanelle was tired, yet she wasn’t exhausted enough to fall asleep on her own. She fussed and cried a little, but was soon entertained by a Caucasian couple sitting behind us.

IMG_9232

Slept as soon as the plane touched down!

IMG_9233

Our resort quoted us 1300 Thai Baht (THB) for a one way trip via a Toyoto Camry from the airport, which is about 50 SGD. I found it exorbitant for what is estimated to be a 30 minute car ride and didn’t proceed with the transport reservation. We couldn’t believe what we saw upon stepping out of the airport. Taxi meter! We asked for an estimate and were quoted 700 THB including 100 THB airport surcharge. Hurray!

_MG_5415

Little misschewy slept soundly throughout the entire journey and woke up promptly when we reached the resort of our choice – The Westin Siray Bay Resort & Spa! I joined the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) programme late last year and decided to stay at one of the Starwood properties for this trip. Out of the 3 resorts currently available, we decided to stay at The Westin Siray Bay because the private beach appealed to us.

_MG_5586

We received a very warm welcome as soon as we got off the taxi. If my memory doesn’t fail me, we were each served a refreshing glass of orange juice topped with crushed ice as a welcome drink. Certainly needed one to cool off in the sweltering heat!

_MG_5583

Situated on the exclusive east coast of Phuket, The Westin Siray Bay Resort & Spa, Phuket offers a rejuvenating tropical haven overlooking the magnificent Siray Bay with all you need to be at your best. This luxury five star resort boasts contemporary design and the renowned warm Thai culture, welcoming guests into this respite of tropical elegance. The resort is just minutes away from Phuket Town, cultural attractions, local markets, restaurants and shopping.

IMG_5587

The Westin Siray Bay Resort is quite big, hence a buggy is required to get around the resort, especially if you room is located a distance away from the reception or restaurants.

_MG_5414

Each of the 257 contemporary guestrooms, suites and pool villas offers ocean views of Siray Bay. We were really lucky that our room was upgraded to a Sala Pool Villa!

_MG_5456

_MG_5405 We were really ecstatic!

_MG_5393

_MG_5391

Our pool villa was definitely the epitome of comfort and coziness! The hubs and I couldn’t stop gasping at this and that, and behaved like little kids. LOL.

_MG_5385

Here’s a glimpse of our bathroom. _MG_5382

We didn’t use the tub at all because it was impossible with Chanelle around. Haha!

_MG_5408

The Westin is very generous with their bath amenities! They have almost everything!

_MG_5389

_MG_5410

The resort’s mini bar items are chargeable, except for bottled water with tags. They are pretty generous with the bottled water! We found at least 6 bottles in our room and they are stocked daily.

_MG_5411

_MG_5412

The mini fridge does not have a freezer compartment so I left my freezing panels for my cooler bag with the resort’s kitchen. The drinks inside the fridge are not complimentary.

IMG_9243

Sooo.. What did we have planned for our first day in Phuket? Nothing! Just wanted to take a dip in our very own private pool! Chanelle was like.. Mummy can you please hurry up I wanna play with water NAO. Hahaha! Just look at that face.

_MG_5546

Chanelle enjoyed the pool so much that we felt bad carrying her out of the water >_<

_MG_5418

We were invited to a cocktail reception at one of the restaurants at the resort, EEST, where we enjoyed free flow drinks and canapes! It was very nice of the hotel managers (I think) to mingle with guests and it made us feel right at home. We hung around for about 15 minutes before moving off to our dinner venue within the resort.

_MG_5443

Dinner was at Prego by the Beach. SPG members are entitled to 15% off! Here, you will find Italian cuisine served in a fun, lively and lighthearted atmosphere featuring an open kitchen and bar overlooking the beach.

_MG_5432

Honestly, I wouldn’t say that the food was fantastic. In fact, my risotto was way too salty. After dinner, we headed back to our pool villa via the buggy and called it a night!

_MG_5451

I can’t remember what time it was when I sneaked out in the morning to snap the sunrise. I was too sleepy to linger any longer and crawled back to the comfy bed.

IMG_9272

It was the hubs’ turn to take this photo while Chanelle and I were still sound asleep. When the little bub woke up, we went for a casual photoshoot within the compounds of the resort and had to skip breakfast. Will share photos in another post! 🙂

_MG_5459

Little misschewy was simply too exhausted after the photoshoot and fell asleep. Both misterchewy and I were feeling ravenous so we didn’t hesitate to call room service to deliver food to us!

IMG_9277

Phad Thai and Minced Basil Pork with rice! Sooooo yummy! The food was also surprisingly quite cheap but we didn’t order more stuff to share because we were planning to go to Patong! The resort provides shuttle bus service to Phuket Town and Patong Beach at a small fee of THB100 and THB200 per person per way.

IMG_5561

As soon as the little one woke up from her nap, we went around to take some photos by the pool before the shuttle bus came to pick us up. _MG_5464

On the shuttle bus! The journey took almost an hour because of the heavy traffic.

_MG_5480

We were dropped off at Jungceylon which is a shopping mall but we were not very keen to shop there even though it was air conditioned and a great respite from the heat. Didn’t know how to walk to Patong Beach so we took a taxi and paid another THB 200 for the short journey.

_MG_5484

_MG_5485

IMG_9290

You know what? It’s actually a pretty bad idea to go to Patong Beach with a baby in tow. Firstly, you cannot enjoy any of the sea sports activities and secondly, the weather is too hot, making it quite ridiculous for you to babywear your child. We had to cool off at the air conditioned food court nearby! Good thing there is free wifi there.

IMG_9286

_MG_5488

There was nothing for us to buy at Patong, save for a couple of souvenirs. Decided to have dinner around the area before returning to our resort.

IMG_9293

I don’t usually drink coconut but when I do, I make sure I take a selfie. LOLLLL.

IMG_9297

IMG_9312

Yeehah! Chanelle’s first tuk tuk ride! 🙂 _MG_5518

Kaab Gluay Restaurant is located further north of Patong beach, along 58/3 Phrabaramee Road. This is one of the places that we had shortlisted from our online research. If we had known that Kaab Gluay doesn’t have a proper high chair for babies, we definitely wouldn’t have come here. It was tough having to take turns to eat!

_MG_5509

_MG_5515

As I’m writing this, I can’t believe we travelled all the way there just to eat 3 dishes! 🙁

_MG_5498

Phad Thai with seafood.

_MG_5501

Green Curry with chicken.

_MG_5506

Tom Yum Soup with seafood.

Even though we only had three dishes to share, we were really full by the time we were done. Food was exemplary and well worth the visit! Highly recommended! On a side note, the tom yum was fiery hot and I developed a sore throat overnight for wiping the entire bowl clean! The hubs only had a few mouthfuls because he can’t take spicy food.

IMG_9316

_MG_5526

Our last night in Phuket! IMG_9329

The next morning, I told the hubs that we must let Chanelle have another round of fun in the pool before leaving the resort!

IMG_9327

_MG_5537

It was a quick one before we prepared ourselves for breakfast!

_MG_5567

_MG_5564

_MG_5563

The breakfast buffet spread was quite sumptuous! IMG_9342

Our check-out was smooth. This time, our journey to the airport cost us THB 1000 which is slightly more than what we paid for to travel from the airport to our resort, inclusive of airport surcharge. The rate was quoted by the resort so we had to go along with it.

IMG_9350

Chanelle fell asleep while she was latching, even before the plane took off! #achievementunlocked

IMG_9352

Our light sleeper woke up when food was being served. Didn’t have a choice but to place her in the bassinet so that we could eat in peace!

IMG_9357

Papa and mummy are so glad that you enjoyed your first overseas trip, darling!

Chanelle’s Milestones at 8 Months Old!

HY-04-3G_RAW

Our little chub chub is 8 months old today! We didn’t realize how much Chanelle has grown until we met misterchewy’s buddy’s 2 month old baby girl a couple of weeks back. When the two babies were placed side by side, Little misschewy didn’t seem so little after all. Suddenly, I felt a lump in my throat and wished that time would slow down. On a more positive note, now that Chanelle is older, she is full of surprises and never fails to make us laugh with all her cute antics! 🙂

HY-04-3H_RAW

Physical Growth: The last time Chanelle had her length measured was about a month ago when she had her last vaccination for this year. It should be around 70cm now. She weighs slightly over 8kg. Both her length and weight are around 70th percentile. I was concerned that her growth has slowed down a little but the nurses at the polyclinic reassured me that this is very normal. I thought that Chanelle should have cut at least a tooth by now, but no! She’s still bogay! LOL.

Feeding: Chanelle has not shown much interest in food and all attempts to let her self feed were not successful. She tends to hurl her food, so BLW is out for now! I bought a box of Ella’s Kitchen’s cheese and tomato puffits from Meidi-Ya at Liang Court and Chanelle loves it. Recently, we also discovered that she likes Nestle’s Celerac rice with mixed vegetable and rice with chicken. Other than that, Chanelle is still largely on breastmilk.

HX-01-0U_RAW

Social: This girl is cheekier than ever! She knows how to fake cry (without tears) by squeezing her eyes shut and going “oooooh~ oooooh~”. Super amusing! Just thinking about it makes me wanna laugh. Chanelle has also started to show signs of being able to assess and imitate moods. One good example took place a couple of weeks ago in the nursing room. A baby next door was crying and Chanelle began to cry too. She also displayed stranger anxiety on certain occasions. Currently, Chanelle gets very tickled when we play peek-a-boo with her by covering her with a blanket.

Language: Chanelle has started to vocalize a range of sounds, of which the most distinct one is “papa”. She also raises her hand in excitement when we say “gimme five!”

Motor Skills: Chanelle is able to sit upright without toppling over and she crawls towards my iPhone most of the time. Sometimes, she crawls backwards. Haha. She is learning how to pull herself up these few days! I have to admit that it’s energy draining having to take care of Chanelle because she is very active and is constantly reaching out to grab something.

The above photos were taken by photographers from Live Studios at my cousin’s wedding at Four Seasons Hotel early November. Chanelle had a photoshoot last week so stay tuned for the photos! Tula Carrier from Baby Carrier Singapore

Sponsored Review

IMG_4622

Babywearing simply means wearing your baby in a sling or carrier. According to Dr. William Sears, a paediatrician, there are plenty of benefits associated with babywearing such as establishing a more intimate bond between mother and child through close physical contact, and enhancing baby’s motor skills by exposing him/her to a variety of sights, sounds and motions just to name a few.

IMG_4092

There are so many types and brands of carriers in the market that shopping for the perfect one becomes a mind boggling affair. Thanks to Baby Carrier Singapore, I was introduced to the colorful world of Tula carriers. The founders of Tula are a husband and wife team with three young children. They experienced how convenient babywearing was and how much it benefits both parent and child that they started to manufacture their own wraps and carriers. To be honest, I initially had some difficulty wearing the Tula carrier the right way as it was my first time babywearing. But Angela, owner of Baby Carrier Singapore is really helpful and always ready to offer me tips and advice over whatsapp such that soon enough, I was able to strap up my Tula on my own with great ease and confidence. In this photo, I’m wearing a black/gold stripe nursing dress from Eve of Eden.

IMG_4097

With the numerous articles circulating around with regards to hip dysplasia, parents and caregivers are encouraged to choose a baby carrier that allows healthy hip positioning, in addition to other safety considerations. Soft-structured carriers like Tula allow babies to sit in the desired “M” position when worn. This position (also known as the “frog position”) means that baby’s knees are higher than his bottom and his legs are spread apart naturally, which is beneficial for hip and spine development.

IMG_4111

In case you are wondering, Tula carriers allow front and back carry. So far I have only tried carrying Chanelle on my front because anxious mummy here cannot let her baby go out of her sight and back-carry is recommended only after six months of age. The maximum weight that Tula standard carriers can support is around 20kg. There’s something very amazing about Tula carriers. Do you know that you can use Tula to carry your newborn and toddler, all the way till your child is about 4 year old? Just by attaching the Tula “Free to Grow” extensions to the panel of the carrier, you can comfortably wear your older children. For parents with toddlers, you can also opt for the toddler version which allows you to wear your child from about 18 months old (and/or about 11kg) till 4-5 years old.

IMG_2970

Tula carriers fit a wide range of babywearing body types simply because Tulas are super adjustable. Just by extending the shoulder straps, anyone can utilize a Tula. Even my dad enjoys babywearing Chanelle!

_MG_3284

It also makes nursing in public easy, even more so when the panels are so huge – 15.5″ tall and 14.5″ wide, providing more coverage and privacy. Just loosen the panel straps in front a little to breastfeed on the go. Really convenient!

IMG_4113

I also love the additional padding in shoulder straps and child’s leg area for extra comfort. My shoulders do not ache even after half a day of babywearing Chanelle, who is around 8kg right now.

IMG_4618

Chanelle enjoys the Tula carrier as much as I do! She’s like my little koala bear, often peeking out of the carrier to observe her surroundings. She also falls asleep in the Tula very easily! Both misterchewy and I are just so amazed.

tulafoxy-tile

Last but not least, I gotta emphasize that Tula carries the widest range of carriers in various prints and designs; you will definitely be spoilt for choice! Here are just a few of the many designs that are available, of which Foxy and Oasis are the latest arrivals. How cute! The quirky Tula carrier designs are a bold fashion statement on its own and brighten up even the dreariest outfits. I was gifted the Retro Bikes Tula carrier which is really cute and perfect for babywearing on a casual weekend when misterchewy and I go around cafe hopping.

Tula carriers retail at $229 onwards which includes free local delivery and can be purchased at www.babycarriersingapore.com.

Chanelle’s Milestones at 6 Months Old!

_MG_3778

Baby Chanelle turns 6 months old today! As cliche as it sounds, time flies! I was looking at all the photos of Little misschewy taken since birth and I couldn’t help but feel very emotional that my baby girl is growing way too fast :’) A part of me wants to see Chanelle learning new things and achieving developmental milestones, yet another part of me wants her to remain as mummy’s cute little baby. I had charted Chanelle’s developmental milestones when she was 4 months old, and here’s her updated reported card at 6 months old 🙂

Physical Growth: As of last week, Chanelle was approximately 67cm in length and weighed 7.86kg. She’s in the 70th – 75th percentile for both aspects. I’m happy that she has more than doubled her birth weight and she still has those ‘Michelin’ arms and legs. However, her face looks a little smaller and less round as compared to when she was about 4 months old. I’m not sure if Chanelle is teething as she has not cut her first tooth yet but she’s always munching on three or four fingers at a time.

Feeding: I’m really proud to declare that I have attained my goal of breastfeeding Chanelle for 6 months! Now that I have reached the 6-month mark, I’m aiming to continue breastfeeding for another 6 months. My work is going to get more hectic next month on and I do hope that I can persevere for the sake of my darling girl. On a positive note, Chanelle should be starting on solids anytime now so hopefully, I can drop a pump session or two from my daily pumping routine within the next few months. I know that some mummies give their little ones solids as early as 4 months but I have read that it’s best to wait till they turn 6 months old. So yeah, baby led weaning, here we come! 🙂

_MG_3768

Social: When Chanelle is in the company of people she is familiar with (misterchewy and I, and our family members), she is always flashing her brightest smiles. Smile until cannot see eyes that kind. Haha. She is also easily tickled by funny noises that we make and also chuckles hysterically when misterchewy and I pin her down on our bed and take turns to rain kisses on her. Chanelle is also an attention seeker! When nobody is attending to her, after being left alone for a while, she tries to get our attention by faking a cough, believe it or not. It’s really funny! And sometimes, she will raise both arms outstretched when misterchewy and I get home from work or when we say 抱抱.

Language: Chanelle responds to her name most of the time unless she’s too focused on something else. Currently, she’s exploring her vocals cords by doing this yelling and screaming thing. My bro reckons it sounds like the kind of noise cats make in the middle of the night but misterchewy and I think it’s really cute.

_MG_3774

Motor Skills: Apart from being able to roll and flip, Chanelle is able to sit upright for a short while although she’s not very stable and might topple over any moment. She has not begun crawling but is able to inch forward by lifting up her butt and moving like a caterpillar. Chanelle also loves grabbing and bringing her feet to her mouth and that’s when the licking of toes begins. As for her fine motorskills, Chanelle is able to pull out her pacifier from her mouth by using a pincer grip and then examine it by holding it up.

_MG_3771

We will be updating this space as we move on and attempt baby led weaning! Experienced mummies, do drop me a line and share some tips!

Okiedog Diaper Bag Review

Sponsored Review

_MG_3517

A few months ago, I was at a loss as to which diaper bag to get because there are so many of them out there in the market! Life is complicated enough, we don’t need diaper bags in all shapes and sizes to give us a headache. I want to tell new mothers that the thing that really matters the most at the end of the day is the WEIGHT of the diaper bag. As new mothers, we tend to be very kiasu and pack more than what is necessary. So, a lightweight diaper bag is really going to save you from a shoulder ache.

I swear by the diaper bags by Okiedog. They are stylish, roomy, affordable and lightweight! Every mummy’s dream (diaper) bag. I’m currently using this Sakawa Shuttle ($149.90) red bag which embodies the beauty of Asian culture with its intricate cherry blossom embroidery. Do you know that this bag weighs merely 750g? It is ultra light! Now that I’m into my fifth month of motherhood, I have learned to pack what is needed and here are some of the items that go into the bag!

There are plenty of compartments and I like to keep diapers and wet wipes within reach, by utilizing the outer compartments so that I don’t have a hard time digging for what I want in the midst of a sticky situation.

A Fridge To Go cooler bag, thermal flask, spare change of clothes, booties, more wet wipes. There are smaller pockets within the bag for you to keep stuff like toys, food, pacifier and teether. The bag also comes with an insulated bottle holder and antibacterial changing mat. This diaper bag is an absolute must-have for all mummies! Blog Hop: The Blogging Process

photo (1)

Happy Monday, everyone! I got tagged in this blog hop! This tagging game is getting very popular among bloggers these days ah. Haha. First, I got tagged on Instagram for a consecutive five days photo challenge. And now, this! This thing is called The Blogging Process and I have absolutely no idea who started it.

Mummy Jolin from www.the-js-arena.blogspot.com was kind enough to drop me a message via FB and asked if I would like to participate in this blog hop instead of telling me, “Nah! You are tagged! Go do it!” LOL. I was acquainted with Jolin only after a mummy bloggers’ event because I found her son irresistably adorable and snapped a few photos of him. I posted the one I liked best, for the purpose of introducing the product, which is a food feeder, and Jolin asked if she could grab the pic. Why not, it’s her son! And that’s how we started talking 🙂

1) What am I working on?

I started off writing about food and subsequently went into lifestyle and travel. I have been recently promoted to a mummy blogger too! So yeah, I basically write about anything and everything that interests me!

2) How does my work differ from others in its genre?

My blog has seen me through being attached to misterchewy after I graduated from NUS, to getting engaged, married and now with Baby Chanelle! I have some very loyal readers and followers who grew together with me on this amazing journey. Their heartfelt emails and messages are what keep me going! I also have new followers telling me that they love my blog for its personal touch.

3) Why do I write what I do?

My blog is not just a blog. It is also my virtual diary that I’m comfortable to share with so many people. I like to blog about how the husband and I celebrate special occasions so that I can always look back many years down the road.

4) How does my writing process work?

Hmm.. This is interesting because my writing process has changed dramatically ever since Chanelle was born. I used to be able to attend tasting sessions or media events 3 or 4 times a week until I was heavily pregnant. I thought I could ‘resume business’ after I pop but I was so wrong. I can never seem to get enough rest even though I head to bed as early as 10pm on certain days. Sometimes, I wake up in the middle of the night at like 3am to edit photos or draft my post when Chanelle is sound asleep. There were instances when I switch on my laptop and within 15 minutes, she wakes up crying for milk and I have to keep everything aside. So, a blog post may take many nights for me to complete! But I’m not complaining because Chanelle is more important than my blog. Blogging can wait but my baby can’t 🙂

Chanelle’s First Play Date

IMG_4666

I applied leave yesterday quite some time ago and over the weekend, I felt like doing something different with Little misschewy. To put things simply, I wanted to get out of the house! Since Chanelle has started to develop social awareness, I thought it would be good to allow her to interact with other babies around her age. I mentioned previously that I joined the March 2014 EDD mummies group on Facebook and I remember that there is a fellow mummy who is a SAHM and stays very near my in laws’ place. So, I dropped her a text and asked if she was keen on a play date and if we could go over to her place because I don’t have a play mat, yet. Mummy Fiona very kindly agreed and we also asked Mummy Jasmine to join in! 🙂

I probably didn’t give Chanelle sufficient time to get used to the new environment before letting her lie on the play mat together with Natalie and Joash. Poor girl was a little frightened by the unfamiliar faces around her, looked at me with a frown and started to wail before I could quickly pick her up to comfort her. After her milk, she was all smiles and babbling away endlessly!

Even though the babies were too young to know how to play with one another, I felt that it was a very good experience for me and Chanelle.
